Steven never imagined that his momentary lapse with a beautiful stripper while on a stag weekend in Prague would completely change the sexual landscape of his marriage… Since Steven and Alicia often discuss what they’d done with previous partners as a way ramping up their foreplay, Steven’s certain that Alicia won’t hold his erotic tryst against him. After all, the stripper was nothing more than hired help, like a cleaner or a gardener. However, his attempts to kickstart their sex life by sharing the details of his adventure with Saskia don’t quite go to plan. After an initial outburst he hadn’t expected, Alicia treats him to a night of passion reminiscent of the exhilarating early days of their relationship. The spark has been truly rekindled. Until Alicia one-ups him with a long, sexy night with a hunky gigolo. Though the inequality of her retaliation leaves Steven reeling, he’s knocked sideways by a difficult truth — the idea of his stunning wife in the arms of another man is far more appealing than he’s imagined. In fact, he can’t believe how much he fantasises about sharing her. While Steve seeks out further thrills in the friendly arms of local sex worker Jo-Jo, who’s happy to tell him stories about all the other men she’s been with, Alicia wonders how she can replicate the dirty thrill he gets from his hired helpers. What do they have that she doesn’t? Maybe if she could learn to scratch his itch, their burning desire could become even hotter…
I abandoned this book at 54%. The husband, Steven, annoyed me, and I couldn't bear to spend more time in his head. A fellow reader urged me to read on as better things were coming. I did, and they were, and this book has ended up being a five-star read for me.
Steven and Alicia live in London. They're married with two children under five. Steven works, and Alicia is a full-time Mum.
Their story opens with Steven returning home from a stag party for a football teammate. The guys have spent a weekend in Prague patronising various strip clubs. Steven allowed a lap dance at one club to progress to something more involving himself, the dancer, and a teammate.
Steven and Alicia regularly share stories of their sexual adventures from the years before they met, and he believes this will be yet another story for him to share to excite them both. Her reaction isn't what he expects. Alicia isn't angry, but she feels his attitude toward the encounter and the sex worker involved is problematic. They talk it out, and Alicia tells him she feels it is only fair that she should also enjoy an interlude with a sex worker, and so, a short time later, she travels alone to Edinburgh, where she has engaged the services of a male escort for dinner and sex. Steven stays home with the kids.
Steven feels that Alicia got more from her night in a hotel than he did from a few minutes in a private room in a strip club, so he says he wants "another go", and they come to an arrangement whereby they each engage sex workers on their own then return home and describe their adventure.
I didn't like Steven's attitude toward the women he was with. Neither does Alicia, and tension mounts between them until it explodes and is resolved shortly after the aforementioned 54% mark. From that point, Stevens's attitude improves, and the story focuses more on Alicia's adventures, which evolve from engaging an escort to picking up partners in bars and ultimately back to sex work - from the other side of the transaction.
At 466 pages, this is a lengthy read, and it allows not only for lots of deliciously steamy sex but also for a decent amount of time with Steven and Alicia at home with their kids. It is clear that they are both devoted parents, and I particularly liked how hands-on Steven is with the kids. Once his lousy attitude toward sex workers had been dealt with, I came to quite like the guy.
Alicia is sexually confident and adventurous; the five stars I've given this book are for her journey. If you enjoy stories in which loving married couples cast aside societal conventions and explore their sexuality, and you can live with a male lead who has some growing up to do, then this is a great read.
One of the best hotwife/cuckold books I've read to date, no cheating just husband and wife having fun and sharing fantasies and putting them to reality. Plus for me was it being set in UK and the use of English, Brit style. This was the first book I've read by D S and it certainly won't be the last, a thoroughly good read about a wonderful couple starting out on their sexy adventures, brill !!
Hired Help is Delores’s best novel to date. As an author, he just keeps going deeper and deeper into people and couple’s relationships.
The About this Book outlines the story fairly completely, so I won’t reiterate it here. I would add that the journey Alicia and Steven undertake is a thorough examination of their possible wants and desires. And in the end they understand themselves and their partner pretty completely.
Clearly there are bumps and missteps and misunderstandings along the way. And there’s a touch of dishonesty in the name of “being afraid of what your partner might think”. At the same time, Chapter 19 is probably the most open, honest and heartfelt discussion of a couple’s wants and desires I have encountered. It’s illuminating to read about a married couple that know themselves reasonably well, and at the same time it’s the insights from their partner that truly helps them understand themselves.
This book describes a team on a journey to an unknown destination. Yet when they get to the destination, they know it. But for them, the journey isn’t over, it’s just a way-station as new experiences open up.
A terrific story with likeable and fallible characters. This is an exploration you won’t want to miss.
Husband and wife are both sluts. Her quest is to find out why he likes hookers so much. So they make an arrangement and she just gets more and more slutty till she finally gives him what he wants and becomes a prostitute herself. This one’s a little over the top.
I borrowed this from Kindle Unlimited. I WILL be buying it for my collection.
Steven and Alicia have been married for **** years and have two kids five and 18mo. Mr Swallows does this from both perspectives. You get inside both heads and develop a genuine understanding of the characters. They are warm, funny, loving, and have a great sex life when family demands allow it. Steven is an excellent father. Alicia is a dental technician on extended maternity leave.
Steven had a lapse of judgement on a ‘bachelor weekend’, and Alicia took it in stride. She wasn’t happy, she kicked him out of bed for the night, but it seemed to blow over the next day. Being able to read her thoughts as well, there doesn’t appear to be any major conflict. She was extremely promiscuous before meeting Steven. Their sex life is as active as two small kids will allow. She is not angered at Steven’s indiscretion, but her reaction is a huge surprise.
Alicia makes an amazing proposal. She’s going to travel two hundred miles and hire a male escort for the evening. She says it’s not for revenge or payback. This couple has an amazing series of conversations. What her idea does accomplish, is put genuine fire into their libido. Especially Steven’s. His reaction is like a cuckold. (which he’s not)
Her thoughts were that, since she’s had two kids, she Feels that her body is less attractive to him. That is why he had sex in Prague.
That’s not true, it was him being thoughtless and irresponsible. It was ‘spur of the moment’, peer pressure, and a bit of booze. Whatever his real reason, he owes her. Maybe he’ll learn something about consequences.
Alicia is adorable, funny, and she’s also pragmatic. She loves him. She doesn’t admit it, but unconsciously, I think she want’s him to pay, in kind. (plus, she knows it turns him on). It absolutely puts a volcano into their sex life, just to think about it. Steven’s excitement at every mention of her adventure is an incitement for her to do more.
This woman is a firecracker. You can’t help but like her. She’s sexy, not just in appearance, she’s sexy between the ears. She also want’s the same privilege Steven gave himself.
Their bedroom conversations are a delight. Funny and sexy.
Steven is torn. He feels anger, frustration, humiliation, and jealousy. That’s topped off with a generous amount of excitement. He’s super turned on thinking about it.
Mr Swallows gets inside both of these people in a way that’s awesome to behold. Truly unique for ‘porn’.
As Alicia and Steven talk, It’s clear, beyond the physical relief, they don’t enjoy their individual forays. They have difficulty accepting, internally, that they’re playing one-upmanship to themselves.
When she admits to Steven, in passing,.. It hurts her too, Steven needed to point out that this was started by him. But, it was five minutes, an accident, he was half drunk, and IT WAS NOT PREMEDITATED. He felt guilty about it and he told her, and was contrite. Her response was planned, and an all night affair and he was told about it in advance. She hurt him far greater than was necessary.
How was that ‘balance’? All that they’ve accomplished, since then, is hurt each other for mediocre sex.
It eventually prompts her to become a street walker. When Steven goes to catch her at it, He follows her and her john to a hotel and ‘crashes’ their party.
From then on, They become a Stag – Vixen couple.
The anxiety generated by their misunderstandings, and the dynamics of their love for each other make for really enjoyable reading.
Great book. Delightful characters. Amazing dialogue. Great editing. The dual perspectives adds a lot to the enjoyment of the book, as does the volcanic sex.
