When God Changed His Mind

Rate this book
“Isaiah. Isaiah! Get up, son! Isaiah! You have to get up! Get off the floor! I can’t stop!”

I reached one hand behind me and shook him the best I could while driving. My heart pounded, and my body trembled. What could be so wrong that he can’t control his body?

Things go downhill quickly after Christina Custodio picks up her thirteen-year-old son early from football practice due to a headache. By the time she arrives, he has little control of his body and quickly becomes unresponsive. Soon, he is rushed into surgery, his brain filled with blood from a severe brain hemorrhage.

From the time he was born, Christina had always felt Isaiah would die young. Though a typical boy with no health issues, the thought always lingered. Now Christina begs God to change His mind and save her son’s life.

When God Changed His Mind chronicles Christina’s inspiring and emotional story of trusting God through the unknown, peace among the chaos, and joy in the midst of sorrow. Grateful that Isaiah survives but unsure he will ever recover his speech and mobility, Christina shares of her dependence on God during the ups and downs of their journey, the power of prayer, and her determination to use challenges and struggles for His glory.

How Powerful is a Mother’s Love? When I read Christina Custodio’s "When God Changed His Mind", I saw a mother reach past clouds of tears to her Heavenly Father ... through her pain and fears ... to the source of her faith to whom she knew would hear her. When you come to the place in the story when she cries out, “Change your mind, change your mind, change your mind,” don’t be surprised if you’re holding your breath and let out a sigh.

This is a powerful story of how God holds us all in the palm of His hand. It’s a recount of a personal relationship with the Creator of the Universe. It's a story of strengthened faith. I highly recommend this read … if you doubt God or if you revel in His love. This story will meet your needs.

I received an early copy of this book for an unbiased opinion. I had no idea I would be so blessed by this true story.

Christina Custodio’s book When God Changed His Mind is a beautiful reminder that God doesn’t cause bad things to happen but that He’s present in our pain, caring for us in each and every difficult situation. Her story is a testimony of this, offering specific examples of how one can discover joy, peace, and hope, even in the most devastating circumstances. After Custodio’s son Isaiah suffers a life-threatening brain bleed, she’s challenged to apply what she claims to believe—that her Savior is trustworthy and that He will work all things out for their good (Romans 8:28). Custodio discovers that, by pressing in to God’s loving embrace, one can find rest, even in the darkest, most difficult, times—because it’s in such seasons that God’s mercy and grace are manifested. Yes, when the tears won’t stop and the night feels long, He is there!

Real-life story about a family surviving the unthinkable and how faith was the glue keeping them all together. Christina is authentic and genuine, describing her difficulties trying to keep it all together. Still, she also explains how God kept her together in being a caregiver, mother, wife, etc. She also knew when the time was right to let her son go and become more independent- letting him know he was capable of doing things on his own.

What a heart- felt story which will make you both laugh and probably shed a few tears. Christina has you walk along side of her as she experiences God love and support as she supports her son Isaiah through his brain-bleed and road to his new normal. Told with honest raw feelings… you see God at work day in and out. I strongly encourage you to read this.

This is a heartfelt story of one mom's journey of faith during a heart-breaking crisis as her son fights for his life. She skillfully mixes her faith in God, the tragedy that unfolded and sprinkled with moments of humor. This book made me cry, laugh, smile, cheer and examine the strength of my own faith when I face trials! This is a must read!
