It has been three years since Emma James and Logan West chased down the clues of mankind’s past, leading humanity into a new era of intergalactic exploration. Happily settled into college life and working part time at the Pentagon on top secret projects worthy of one’s wildest imagination, the future looked bright for them. All seemed well until a mysterious signal beckoned from the other side of the planet. Compelled to investigate, the United States government would once again call upon Emma and Logan to help solve the mystery. Only this time, they find themselves investigating a secret hidden in mythologies not just around the globe but across the galaxy, on a collision course with a dangerous destiny neither were prepared for… Emma’s.
Not quite as good as the first book but ended well and I am looking forward to the third book. If you have not read the first book you definitely need to start there. You will not have any idea whats going on in this book if you start here. They are not stand alone books.
I thought it was a good effort to get through a tough challenge for the protagonists and up the stakes for the third book. In a lot of ways this was the Empire Strikes back of this series. Its stuck in my head several other books later so I am retroactively adding a star.
I loved this book, the second in the trilogy. The author tells such an engrossing story and the dialogue is hilarious. My favorite aspects of the book include how much I learn that is true, and also, just like Dan Brown, how this author blends reality and fiction until you can’t see the line at all. Fast paced and clever. Another great read. I can’t wait for the last book!!!
I really enjoyed the first book because it connected so many mysterious ancient monuments. It seemed like a fresh take on their creation. So I bought the second book hoping to again see Logan and Emma solve clues left in the past. But this time the author seemed to “pad” the writing, for instance writing a poem in English, then rewriting it in Swedish. The story is still intriguing and I liked the plot but the action seemed slower. The story continues in a third book which must fill in the gaps.
This was a good middle book. It kept my interest throughout but I really like the National Treasure side of the story so I wanted more of that and less aliens. I will definitely be picking up the conclusion to the trilogy and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
This is a really clever story. Pulling together so many random bits of earths history that have made little sense to people, and giving them a single narrative. It's really well done, if a little overwhelming at times. Really enjoyable read.
Logan and Emma are now in college and getting serious about their relationship. Just when Logan is about to propose, they get a summons from the Situation Room at the White House. Over the past 4 years they continued to work with government scientists on reconnecting the portal to the Vaniryan planet, to no avail. Now an energy signature has appeared implying Vaniryan presence in a remote mountainous region of Russia. The young people are sent with a crack military team to check it out, only to be launched into an interplanetary adventure full of mystery and danger. The plot is multi-layered and complex, with action shifting among protagonists once they become separated. Enticing riddles must be solved to move from one place (on Earth and in space) to another in pursuit of Vaniryans, involving Inca mythology and ancient Norwegian manuscripts. Emma connects with a group of Vaniryans called the Remnants but quickly gets into trouble as she's pursued by opposing forces bent on wiping them out. Logan is back on Earth piecing together clues from mythology and manuscripts to locate where Emma is in time and space. How it all works out does stretch credulity a bit, but it's an exciting adventure full of amazing space technology and curious characters. The supporting cast is quite engaging and the planetary scenery breath-taking.
Such space fiction is expansive and stirs the imagination. I only wish the stakes could be other than an evil superpower trying to destroy or take control of the entire cosmos, while the good guys barely escape in one piece while finding ways to thwart the bad guys. It has lots of violence and folks getting killed and enough planets exploding to satisfy most teens and young adults. The charming characters of Logan and Emma, and the excellent writing and story crafting, are what keeps me reading. I will read Book 3 when it comes out—must find out what happens, after all.
The second book in this new series comes on strong with more action , more mysteries to solve, kidnaps and escapes, an American Russian conflict and rescues from an alien planet
Three years have passed since Emma and Logan's discovery of the portal technology and all known gates stopped working. Implementation and testing of the new gate technology by the United States has had limited success and Emma has a bad feeling that they are running out of time. Logan and Emma have top security clearance working for the government on the secret project while attending college. In love with each other but making new friends and enjoying their classes.
A use of gate technology is detected in a remote Russian location and the US wants to launch a special ops team to investigate and wants to send two experts with the team, Emma in case it is the Vaniryan's and Professor Quigley for her expertise in cyber -tech ethics.à
When I say I could not put this down I mean I literally read all the books in a week. Absolutely loved these books! I fell in love with Issor from the moment I met her. I even bought a set for my niece to read them. Emma is a great strong character and someone every girl can look up to. The writing was captivating and the story kept me hooked wanting more.
These books have mystery, decoding, adventure, travel, young love, space, and so much more. Numerous times I felt I was there with Emma on each adventure seeing what she was seeing through the great imagery and story telling. After reading these books, I am definitely a Marc Jacobs fan.
Awesome story telling. To be able to tie so many mysteries from around the world into one plausible cohesive event is beyond great. Certainly don't know if it's true but if just parts of it were just WOW!!!!!! All of the characters are have their moments but the way they slowly come together is just great. To see how the main characters grow individually and together is just heart warming. Can't wait for the next book. So many sub meaning. Profoundly a wonderful story.
Oh my goodness!!! When can we expect book 3?!? I was not expecting a cliffhanger, I seriously can’t wait!!! There’s so much history and research that goes into marc’s books, it’s awesome, and it’s so entertaining, but your also learning at the same time, I love it!! It makes me want to put more research into my stories, and learn how to suck readers into the story the way marc does, i’m so excited for book 3!!!
Another great read from author Marc Jacobs! It’s rare that a science fiction book is such an engaging read, but the inclusion of historical mystery gives it a thriller aspect that’s incredibly compelling. I’ll be keeping myself busy with the author’s entire back catalogue until the next book in the series comes out. Well done!
Thank you for two fabulous books to help me through the dog days of Covid-19. As a front line health care worker, I desperately needed an escape and The Coordinate and The Hidden Coordinate took me there! Can’t wait for Book 3!
If you like to read mystery, adventure, sci-fi, young adult, then this book is for you! I love the characters and the continued adventure carried over from book 1.
The story takes you on a adventure made possible through astronomy and physics. Although discussing the explanations of why slows down the story, nonetheless continuing reading brings you to climax in story.
I really enjoyed reading reading this book. It was a great continuation from the first book in the series. Fasted paced, with lost of action, adventure, history, and some humor. I can't wait for the third book to come out.
This series by Marc Jacobs has me enthralled! I love the way he melds ancient history, myth & scifi technology into a logical tale. Can hardly wait for the next book...
Having read and enjoyed The Coordinate, the first book of this series, I was surprised by my reaction to this one … First, there were too many lapses in my reading…had I loved it I would not have put it down. Admittedly, there were review deadlines I wanted to meet so other books became a priority but I prefer to always finish what I have started before moving on to something else. The theme of the series and of The Hidden Coordinate is what drew me to read it in the first place and is what led me to finally finish it. I would prefer to give it 3.5 stars if I could.
In our reality, I believe that much information has been suppressed which is now destined to come into the light and authors often use fiction as a vehicle to reveal possible unknown truths. So, the subject of aliens, life on other planets and time travel was very intriguing. Over-all, this is a very interesting story, as others have also stated but I wasn’t impressed with the way it was presented. I felt that the writing was too simplistic for my taste and better suited for younger adults or for those less interested in a more literary style of writing – just the opposite of how I felt about the first book. Perhaps the novelty, for me, wore off and the content read like a super-hero adventure book. The science of it (the “how tos”) may seem rather far-fetched and yet the concepts (the “what ifs”) seemed more plausible – more imaginatively spelled out than convincing. So, a reader would need to suspend any disbeliefs and just go with the flow.
Although I do not feel compelled to continue the series at this time, I may still do so out of curiosity. The fact that I have been to Machu Picchu and have a recent interest in the Pleiadians are two reasons I stuck with it but other content failed to captivate me. Perhaps, I have more resistance than I had thought, as most people do, to believing the unbelievable and the fact that it is probably true. We are on the threshold of discovering new (only to us laymen) technologies and/or abilities that will allow for other forms of travel but not quite as described in this book, I don’t think. You should read it for yourself to see what I am talking about.
As in the first book, the story and mystery are solid, but the author seriously needs an editor and proofreader. There are serious and frequent word choice errors and factual problems across the two books. There is also a lot of inconsistency in the characters.
Some examples: Pluto is not a planet People don't "fist-pump" each other 18 year old women don't randomly say "OMG!!!" Jersey City residents are not predominantly white and that city is not a suburb Second graders are not teen years old
The errors are so distracting that they frequently pulled me out of the story. I hope the author finds a good editor to help fix these issues in the third book.
Well done again! Another awesome historical and archaeological adventure mixed with sci-fi. This author mixes all of that really well in a smooth believable manner. Character development continues in this sequel which moved the story along from the first book perfectly. Logan and Emma are a great couple with a super sweet relationship that does not overpower the archaeological sci-fi theme of the book at all. The first book had a uniquely clever ending that I did not think the author could duplicate again, but he found a way to surprise me with another great ending that had me wanting to grab book 3, only it is not out yet. I would buy it if I could today, that’s how much fun these stories are. I could really see these books being made into a great movie trilogy.
Again Borders on 4-Stars (but, it’s not quite there ...)
Like the first book, this Book #2 is action-packed — and I’m grateful to The Author for that ability. It still pushes the credibility factor that Emma and Logan can figure out, understand and implement all that is thrown at them — but, that’s the part of the series that I’m willing to suspend my disbelief for. It’s nice that The Author tries to make some of the Astronomical parts of the book actually fit common sense, but I’m not so sure the same applies to the other subplots ... especially in this Book #2 and its dealing with Russia and other countries — there were several things that were just not convincing.
It's just okay but logically inconsistent. If you're into a bit of a mindless read, fine. It's a bit like National Treasure, the movie.
but if you want a bit more logical consistency. this isn't it. FOR EXAMPLE, and this is a spoiler so don't read it if you don't want spoilers.
In the first book, they basically travel back in time, to the start of the book. but remember all that happened. Yet in the second book, they refer to things that happened the in first book. Like the Dr getting shot in the cave in Norway. which didn't happen in the current timeline.
Also, Time Powers is really OP, you can't understate that.
We!! Done romance and action in a rescue on a alien world. messages woven into story poems is a good place to hide clues over time. Alk terms .usr have computer hackers these days. too many figures to keep up with have to be deciphered. Friends are useful.
Marc should have re-read book 1 before writing this one. Also 10 year olds should be further along than second grade. Still these (or this, if your counting the whole trilogy as one) are (is) fun story(lies) to read.
