If I could give ZERO stars I would. What a cheap way to get your book sold. I didn't notice that this person put 2 Ns in her name but knew within 5 pages that it wasn't right. When you Google Lianne with 2 Ns it only takes you to the real Liane Moriarty's page. If you Google the title of the book you get some trashy romance. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! This is not the beloved Australian author. This is a fake! For what its worth, I emailed the press liaison to let her know.
I pre-ordered this book thinking it was by Liane Moriarty, the author of Big Little Lies and several other books I’ve enjoyed, but when the story started out dull and the writing just wasn’t that great, I started to look into it and can’t even locate this book on Google or even Amazon, the very website who emailed me about the book coming out and the very site who sold me the e-book. Weirder still, when I look in my orders and click on the book, it gives me an error page. I was hoping I could return this as I’m feeling rather duped, but it’s hard to return something that doesn’t exist. I got a few chapters in, maybe 50-60 pages in but it has yet to grab me, so I’m not planning to finish reading it. What a waste of $9.99 on what seems to be a scam book.
I feel like the victim of a huge scam except that I worked out I was being scammed early in the piece. When an ad popped up for this book I thought it was by Liane Moriarty and missed the second n in the first name. I eagerly purchased it. After reading 10% on kindle I said to my husband, this is really weird. The writing is terrible and the story corny and cliched. There are so many errors and odd word choices….. So I searched for the writer and looked at reviews on Goodreads and discovered I wasn’t the only one to be taken in by what seems to be a well thought out scam. The story is rubbish, the writing worse. Words seem to be used as totally inappropriate synonyms. Names change from page to page. There is a King Nathan VIII??? I wish I had had the energy to record all the weird language. I did ‘read’ the whole book but in a totally skimming way. How did this scam happen? Who is to blame? Kindle? Amazon? Goodreads? I lost money purchasing this book and that annoys me but worse I wasted time reading it. I hope this review will stop others wasting the same time.
What a con - so badly written that I knew within a minute that this wasn’t by my beloved Liane (one n) Moriarty. I’d like my money back please Amazon! Your recommendation was based on mis-information…
I was so incredibly confused as I read what I thought was the new Liane Moriarty book. The writing was terrible, with tons of grammatical and spelling errors to the point that I thought Amazon must have mistakenly released an advance reading copy or unedited draft. I read about 1/3 of the book waiting for it to get better or resemble a Liane Moriarty novel in any way, shape or form before giving up and returning it to Amazon for a refund. This book is about a man who has fallen on hard times and takes a job as a nanny to a challenging little girl. The writing is extremely bad. What a dirty trick for the author/publisher to try to trick readers this way!
The book was full of typo’s grammatical errors and mistakes. One instance was calling Henry the VIII Nathan VIII?? Interchanging a child named Mabel with Margaret. The frequency of the word ‘simper’ ‘Worried his or her lip’ using the word ‘gander’ instead of gaze. ‘Bobbing one’s head instead of ‘nodding’ So many Americanisms when the book was based in Coventry. All of these errors mis-spellings and mistakes spoilt it for me. It was also a very predictable storyline. Not up to Lianne Moriarty’s usually high standard.
This is a fake Liane Moriarty book! I didn't finish it once I realized. The writing was terrible and I thought Liane Moriarty had forgotten how to write. I was relived that it wasn't hers, but furious that I had pre-ordered it on Amazon thinking it was by Liane.
I don’t know if there was an error with the kindle version or if the print version was also this bad but here goes: it appeared to have been completely unedited, poor grammar, poor sentence construction, repetitive words, inappropriate adjectives and mis-spelling and that’s just for starters. It read like this was ghost written in another language and then poorly translated. With all the editing required and the errors in the book with was a horrendous read. Only finished it to submit a one star rating.
The editing in this book was hilarious. "nskylar" meant nanny and "nskylar" was banister. This novel was a troped trainwreck. I felt embarrassed I had been duped by the "Lianne Moriarty" bait and switch and yet had to keep reading it was so awful. Please do not read this terrible, ridiculous novel. What was this author trying to do? Beginning to think this was written by an AI it was so strange.
This was a total disappointment - not just because I mistook it for one of my favorite authors, Liane Moriarty, but this was full of typos, grammatical errors, weak character development, and a plot that was predictable from page one - total waste of time and money! And I felt deceived in Amazon's rollout of this ahead of time. Lesson learned. If this author tries again, please consider an editor - sheesh!!
When I saw this book I was so excited, missing the fact the author’s first name is Lianne with two n’s, not one. The plot is full of holes, the characters are one-dimensional and clichéd, and the attempt at creating mystery is clunky at best. I kept reading hoping it would get better but alas, it ended exactly the same way it started.
What a rip off! The author should be embarrassed to release this very dull poorly written book. Using the name of a well respected writer whose books I have read and loved. I think I should get a refund from Amazon.
Made a huge mistake, when purchasing this book. Thought it was the Big Little Lies author. It's not. Hugely unfortunate. So let down, I feel like it was a waste of money and time.
I think I would have enjoyed this book more if there weren’t so many mistakes. Whoever did the proofreading really messed up!! The story was good I just couldn’t really concentrate when I was having to read sentences more than once because of grammatical errors!!
After starting this book I realized my mistake. I thought that it was a Liane Moriarty and was sadly disappointed. So I learned a lesson, be more careful when purchasing a book.
Was this written by a computer? It’s the weirdest book I’ve ever read. And who is this Tudor King Nathan? I cannot find any info on Luanne Moriarty. Wish I could find out if this is some kind of joke
I can’t believe I didn’t notice that this book was NOT written by Liane Moriarty. As I read, it became obvious and it was a complete waste of time and money. If I could give zero stars- I would. Don’t be fooled fans of Liane!
BEWARE IF YOU ARE A LIANE MORIARTY FAN THIS BOOK IS NOT BY HER. I didn’t read it, but the idea of someone trying to sell books by using deceit doesn’t sit well with me.
If I had to guess, I would say no editor worthy of the name ever looked at the manuscript of this book. The English is atrocious. Verbs don't agree with nouns, sentences run on and on, redundancies abound, etc. If the author of this book is really named Lianne Moriarty I feel sorry for Liane Moriarty, who reputation will be sullied in the minds of those who bought this book thinking it was written by the author of Big Little Lies.
I've read all of this author's books and loved every one, but this one left me confused. Words were left out, misused and misspelled. It wasn't clear if the characters were Black, Indian or white until the very end, and even then I wasn't sure. Rochel's ex husband, Derek, was sometimes referred to as Michael (I think). The editing was dreadful.
Ms. Moriarty is usually one of my favorite authors but I kept having to check the book was written by her. There are so many typos, it is difficult to get through a page without having to read and reread at least one sentence trying to make sense of it. I am wondering if she wrote this as a teenager and her publisher had her dust it off and sell as a new novel. And the use of the words/phrases ‘chuckle, chuckled, chuckled with humour, laughed with humor, smiled with humour’, etc., made for some really awful writing.
I usually love Lianne Moriarty's books. Not this one. There wasnt much of a storyline and very predictable. Also the editing was horrible. Wrong pronouns, incorrect grammmar, etc .
