Recluse

Rate this book
Despite her pageant upbringing, Melanie Crawford was bound and determined not to follow in her mother’s Miss South Carolina footsteps. Instead, she followed her heart, even though it meant she would get zero financial, or moral, support from her upper crust parents.

When she’s assigned a welfare check on the local recluse, the sparks that fly would light up the Fourth of July sky. But what Melanie doesn’t know, is the man she’s sent to check on, has been checking her out since the day she arrived in town.

This reclusive stalker never believed he could catch the eye of the curvy, golden haired beauty, and yet, she’s dropped like manna from heaven straight into his world and now, he’s never letting her go.

Only, if she finds out his secret, will she understand or run screaming into the woods?

Vincent Weber has never quite fit in, and he’s given up trying. He’s satisfied living alone in the woods, until the day he sets his eyes on his own personal Goldilocks. She’s too soft, he’s too hard, but when they get together, they are oh so just right. This Daddy bear has found his little one, and he’s never letting her go. Safe, no cheating with a few swats on the behind and boom… it’s way over the top insta-love and a happy ending that feels like a fairy tale.

Nikolai Andrew has been writing stories as far back as he can remember. His elementary school teachers used to have him stay after class to try to explain some of his more creative work but with a to-die-for smile and wisdom beyond his years, he always managed to charm his way out of trouble. Not much has changed, except he's now found an outlet for his stories where he can show off a bit of his darkness, a dash of dominance and a sprig of hopeless romantic topped with a whole helping of hot.

When he's not writing, he's playing with his many aquariums, searching for rocks, enjoying cheap vodka and making waitresses blush. He's got a penchant for vintage Playboy's and Vargas girls and a weakness for giving out spankings and cookies. Drop him a line anytime. He loves to hear from readers. Especially their own ideas on what he should write next.

**3/5 stars**

I honestly didn't know what to expect from this novella. I didn't really look into what I was picking, and I would say that I pretty much went in blind. I really liked the premise and the start of the story. It seemed to me like there was a mixture of Beauty and the Beast and Goldilocks and the Three Bears flavors to it. Slightly. In the first quarter of this novella, I thought I would probably rate it four stars; I liked the OTT alpha hero, I liked the sweet heroine, the age gap didn't bother me at all, the premise was nice too...

Now my biggest problem with this story was the sudden change in Melanie's behavior. At first, she seemed very down to earth, smart and responsible despite her being young. What bothered me with her, and I know it was part of the little play/kink Vincent and her had, was how she acted literally childlike when they both had sex together. I understand that age play is a thing, and I can even tolerate it when done well, but here it made me so uncomfortable. I could've seriously done without it.

I’m a scary motherfucker, even on my best day. Size, shape, scars, attitude. There’s nothing soft or average about me. I don’t fit in.
-Vincent

As for Vincent, there was a mystery surrounding him for a big chunk of the story. With the Goldilocks/Beauty and the Beast references, paired with his over the top and obsessive manners, I really thought there would be a paranormal twist to the story. Which I think could've been super entertaining. Turns out the guy was just extremely over the top. He was obsessive, possessive, protective but also had very singular kinks and behaviors when it came to Melanie. It also wasn't mentioned clearly, but it seemed like Vincent had a form of autism, where he was a genius but had social awkwardness and low emotional quotient (which this part, he mentioned himself). I really liked how multi-talented and autonomous he was.

As I crush her against the door, I think about what’s beyond. What she would have found if I hadn’t arrived when I did. My secret. My shame. The thought of her finding it only makes me harder. If she’d discovered just how deep my obsession goes, how would she react? Fear? Fury?-Vincent

Overall, I think the characters had a nice chemistry, it's just that some of the kinks I listed below didn't fully sit well with me. I can normally tolerate all of them, I'm just very fussy when it comes to the execution. This time, it was just too much and repetitive for me to feel comfortable and immersed. I personally cringed a few times, something that could've been avoided if either, the kinks had been toned down a little bit OR if the heroine had been a few years older. My main issue here was the fact that the heroine was barely eighteen and the hero could easily be her father, and add to that the childlike age play; it was just too weird for my own comfort.

✔️HEA
✔️Novella
✔️Dual POV
✔️Age gap
✔️Sweet/Virgin h
✔️OTT H
✔️No OW/ slight OM

Trigger warning

Would I recommend this novella? I think overall it was a nice story. I would just suggest to read the content warning beforehand, to make sure you are comfortable with the kinks portrayed in this.

Short and spicy 🔥🔥

This was so good. It had a great subplot but focused primarily on Vincent and Melanie. Extreme instalove lol. For being an OTT MMC, Vincent never controlled Melanie outside the bedroom. She still kept her job, chose when she wanted kids and how to live her life.

This did dive a little too much into DD/lg for me but was still great and I will definitely check out Nikolai Andrew’s other books.

1 stalking isn't hot stars

I wanted to read this because a man wrote it (different perspective), and it was an erotic novella where the premise of a retelling of Goldilocks which sounded interesting. It wasn't. There are spoilers from here, so read on at your own risk.

The H was stalking the h, broke into her house, stole her possessions (including her trash which he later admitted to SLEEPING with and jerking off to), and then sabotaged her car to ensure she was stuck with him with a really bad storm coming so she would be there overnight. There was some dubious consent happening, the whole "I want to put a baby in you" (she met him 1 day ago), and he was extremely rough with his (what was described as) enormous d!ck on a woman he knew was a virgin. Then it got all weird instalove and the h was somehow fine with the H being a total psycho stalker. Meanwhile, her a-hole boss was sexually harassing her, so of course the H had to get caveman about it, and then weirdly after that, 6 months had passed and the work place finally realized the manager guy was a douche and decided to hire the h to take his place despite the fact that she had not been doing the job very long before she just stopped showing up to work 6 months before. And then the H's story comes out about why he left the fast-paced NYC life which involved his half-brother getting framed for siphoning corporate funds that the H found out was happening and knew who was doing it but somehow couldn't prove it and apparently hired a crappy lawyer bc his brother ended up in jail for it. Then he gets on the subway and gets cut with a knife when he tries to help a lady from getting mugged. And all of that happened 10 years ago, so this guy has to be up there (40's at least), but they never give an exact age. Also, he built the giant cabin he lives in all by himself with no internet, phone, and it is all solar powered. But he was a money guy on Wall Street. Okay. Oh, and he does intricate carvings that are scattered all over the property but goes nuts whenever the h suggests he should share them or sell them. No idea why.

Plot --- 1/5
Writing Style --- 2/5
Main Characters --- 1/5
Supporting Cast --- 1/5
Steam Level* --- 4/5 (took a sudden "Daddy/Baby" route and stuck with it hard)
Violence --- nothing overly graphic
Triggers --- mild BDSM; stalking; sexual harassment
Language --- yes
POV --- Dual

*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all

Could've been great, but didn't stick the landing

⋆˙⟡ — Goldilocks retelling with a bear-like hero (huge with a beard and a scar)??

⋆˙⟡ — Dark romance, 10+ years celibate, stalker since he first saw her 6 months prior, obsessed hero??!

⋆˙⟡ — Hero lives off the gird, mansion-log cabin, no TV, beast-style library?!?!

⋆˙⟡ — Daddy kink and breeding kink???!!!?

This was going magnificently. The steam took its time, but when it came it delivered! How, seriously, how can you screw this up?

2.5 ⭐

The daddy kink isn't really my jam and that's okay. Though in this novella it kinda lessens the rating I'm originally supposed to give.

Vincent (40) saw Melanie (22/23?) six months ago when she came into that town. Then he stalks her and B&E in her apartment to steal things that he'll put in his altar for her. Creepy and pervy if you ask me but he's the MMC and this is fiction so I'll tolerate his craziness.

Then one day Melanie was assigned to have a welfare check on him. His brother thought that something might happen to him because his letters stopped coming. It was just like fate worked its way out and Melanie was delivered into Vincent's lap like a good offering.

Everything happened so fast in this novella, they slept, dropped the love bomb, and got engaged within 3 days. Absurd and ridiculous, but I'm still here for it.

Overall, this is still an okay and enjoyable read. However, I really can't stand daddy kink and it just made me uncomfortable. Anyway, this is still worth reading just to pass time.

LOVED this book! Just the right touch of stalker with a growling alpha and low on drama. Both main characters were great! Love it when the heroine has a backbone and doesn't take any crap. She was a virgin and he was either a virgin or looong celibate. But...since I like my mc's dv's, I'm going with he was a virgin too! Don't miss this book! Great read!

I read this a while ago and I didn't write a review. I must have been out of my mind rating it a 4 star when it is clearly a 5 star read. Here is my review after having the pleasure of rereading it.
Firstly, I LOVED IT!! Rereading it made me fall in love with Vincent all over again. *swoon* If you want an alpha, obsessed, stalking caveman, in love to the point of madness, a big, burly, scarred hero that will just stare at his woman because he just can't help himself, meet Vincent. *sigh, swoon some more...*
Safe
No cheating
No OM (Melanie's boss is a creep, she is not interested in him)
NO OW
Dual virgins (Melanie is a virgin for sure, and I think that Vincent is too. It is not explicitly said, but I will explain why I think so).
No gross condom use
No separation
DD/lg kink, spanking, rough sex, dubcon/noncon play, breeding kink. The sex scenes are VERY erotic!
Lots of love and romance so palpable you can feel it.
HEA
This is the story of Vincent, a recluse living in a remote, off the grid cabin (lodge) he built himself. An incident and his past made him have enough of his unhappy life, so he removed himself from society and lives with the company of his fur buddy, Bear (a large puppy). His brother is in prison and has not heard from him, so worried he asks for a welfare check on Vincent.
In comes Melanie, she is a hardworking social worker. She is from a very rich family, that has her life mapped out for her, but she wants no part of it so she got into moving to a small town and working, but she is broke now and has a kitten, Peaches who needs surgery. It is expensive and she has no idea what to do. She is assigned to go and make sure Vincent is all right, so she ventures out to his very remote cabin and is "attacked" by a happy, slobbering bear, but she is fearful of dogs so she is on the ground in a ball, until Vincent sees her, tells Bear to heel and then when she stands at her full height, his knees almost give out at the sheer beauty of this woman. He just stares and says, "It's you.." And their love story begins......*swoon*
The rest of their story unfolds and there is passion, love, hot sex, more passion, gazing into each others eyes, and everything you want in a passionate romance!
So this is why I think that Vincent is a virgin. He was bullied and shunned his whole life for being different. He is good with numbers, can read a book and remember it verbatum, and he just has odd quirks like hating loud noises and only liking neutral colors. He understands numbers, but does not understand people. He is physically scarred too after an attack a decade ago and just does not like to be around people, which makes me think he was not around men or women, and not trusting enough to be intimate with a woman. My second reason is he says this, when he is about to take Melanie's virginity.
Quote,
“But you should know, I haven’t been with anyone else
these past ten years. Or for years before that. There is nobody for me but
you. There never has been and there never will be. You’re the one.” Vincent.
It is the 'never has been and never will be that cemented my belief (also, because I choose to believe that she is his one and only). I had a brief doubt with the 'it's been ten years' part off his confession, but I think he was a bit too shy to tell her straight out that 'there is nobody, never has been, never will be'. My third and final reason is when he says this, Quote,
'What I want from her is different, not like the sweet romances I’m sure she reads.
Even this part of me is different, unnatural, but for some reason, this little
girl is tugging it from me and she seems to understand." Vincent
I think he is talking about his sex/lust part of his being. His brain is different, his body is scarred, big and different, and now he is discovering that his sexual part of himself is different, like the rest of him. He is just now discovering it cementing my belief that Melanie is his one and only.
Even if let's say he isn't, then it was at least a decade and a half that he was celibate.
I love Vincent, to me he is the perfect hero. He is a cinnamon roll caveman, he is sex on legs but also sweet an loving, he is strong and alpha but also shy, scared and vulnerable. I recommend the read, it is a passionate and sweet love story that you will want to reread right after you finish. It is in my top favorites, and I urge you to indulge!
Happy reading!

I did not expect this book at all. It was sooo good and sooo hot. She is sent to do a welfare check on Mr Weber (middle name Richard like on greys anatomy). Turns out he is this super rich recluse, social outcast with an amazing mind and talented hands. He is also her stalker.
He does not hide his interest in her and their conversations are beyond hot. He calls her little girl and she does not know why it makes her so hot.
The next time she comes he puts out traps to pierce her tires and force her to spend the night. He is beyond obsessed and can’t breathe when she is not there. Loved it.

DNF @ 30%

I thought this was a double virgins story and that's why I even started it, but only the heroine was a virgin.
And the hero sounded like a creep. Saying how her youthful curves call to him and than saying she's childlike. And that's not the only time he describes her as childlike. It was just gross and creepy.

Her Mountain Man Recluse

I do enjoy Nikolai's take on age gap romances, taboo and those darker edges he throws in as well.

This one was just a touch on stalker/creeper line but in the hottest way possible (it's so wrong it's right lol)

Another yummy read from Nikolai!

Decide for yourself if stalking is always a bad thing.

I really liked this story. It was entertaining and enjoyable with some Daddy/little girl taboo. There’s also some stalking but in a good way (?) that contributes to the overall story. The characters were interesting and likable for the most part. Melanie’s boss was a total lech. Hopefully he got what he deserved even if it wasn’t directly in the story. Vincent was an over the top alpha. He was possessive, protective, and demanding. Melanie was an accomplished young woman that knew what she wanted out of life and wasn’t afraid to fight for it. Melanie and Vincent were both dealing with things that made life more difficult. The way that they handled those things made them great. There were plenty of steamy moments that added to their story. I loved their happy ever after. I recommend reading this book.

I love insta-lust/ott reads

I purchased this book via Amazon and am leaving my review voluntarily. It is book 3 in the Anti Heroes series but can be read alone. This is a quick "safe" story.

Triggers:
h is harrassed at work by her boss, stalking, dub-con, ( FYI: these are consenting adults and this is not ageplay but h calls H "daddy", H calls h "babygirl"  )

Spoilers:
Melanie, from a rich family. wants to help people and her family disapproves. She's anxious to do a good job and take care of her sickly cat.

Vincent, lives alone in the mountains. An artist and former investment banker. He prefers to be away from people. Gruff, obsessive, dominate. He's a bit stalkery where Melanie is concerned.

Vincents brother Robert is concerned for his welfare and a call sends Melanie, who is a new social worker, to investigate.

Insta lust. Virgin. Dirty talk. HEA

Good Lord Almighty!!!

Hottest book I've read in a long while! Whew!!! I can't even find words to even give an accurate description of this book. All I know is I'm obsessed and I know I'll be rereading it time and time again.
Vincent literally stole my breath many times. The level of his obsession for Melanie is so over the top and I am HERE FOR IT!!!
Every new book by Nikolai is miles better than the one before and I don't even know how that's possible because I thought that each of them were the best and then BAM! You give us this one and I think it can't be topped. I need MORE!!!

I love stalking books and this one was right up there for me.

Even though I had read the blurb, I was completely thrown off guard by the antics of Vincent. I was sooo taken aback by his immediate NEED for her and her immediate CONNECTION to him. And that boss she had made me want to kick in the you know what several times.

I was just as shocked as she was at his obsession room..and not sure I would have reacted the was she did..I find that "type" of obsession rather endearing and at the very least you know you are loved.

Vincent is the man!!!!

Super good, definitely taboo, and yet still safe. Love when authors can give us the hottest books with a good story and yet manage to give us real strong alpha men who aren't manwh*res and women you are still sweet and innocent. Not for the "purity" persay, but because they're so endearing and you want the best for them. There are still far too few authors who can pull off this perfect balance, some amazing ones, yes, but few comparatively. and I am so happy that Nikolai started writing these stories for us. This one is full of heat and love and a definite HEA♥️

OTT, oohey, gooey goodness with a side of Obsession

This is the first book I’ve read by Nikolai Andrew and WOW! Vincent is one heck of an anti-hero and I hope Nikolai has many more Vincents in the vault. If you like OTT Heroes, Vincent is the king. His obsession for Melanie is unmatched to the point that you will likely feel just a bit antsy, but you won’t be able to help yourself trying to get to the end of the story.

This should have been a home run for me. It's smutty, kinky, with a neurodivergent character, stalking, crime. But it's just a bunch of cliches strung together to hold up the spicy scenes. Which is fine, but the writing itself is engaging and left me wanting more of a real story. So it wasn't quite shallow enough for pure smut or deep enough for a really good story. I must not be Goldilocks today.

I am not really into the Daddy/little girl kink but the story was really good. Couldn't stop reading it. Great plot, likeable characters and red hit romance. Lived the scene with Bear, the dog, going for the "attack." Very funny. Overall read was enjoyable. Highly recommended

DNF, but this one's mostly on me. I thought this book was right up my alley, but there's something about it that's just not clicking with me. I stopped right when they were about to fuck, and even getting to that point, I felt like I had to force myself to continue. Even though the characters were interesting and the kink was was good, I was just plain bored. I might come back to this someday.

Omg, this book! The story was not predictable. It had lots of steam Melanie and Vincent are like fireworks in the bedroom! Vincent is I think incredibly smart and doesn't like people for good reason. Melanie is sweet and has a need to help people. This book was the first for me by this author and definitely won't be my last. Oh the HEA was awesome!
