In the space of one night, my world is thrown into the air and dropkicked into a new dimension. Sounds dramatic, right? Probably because it is. I’m no stranger to drama, but this… this takes the award for Best Dramatic Bombshell.
It all starts with a carjacking on a dusty highway twenty miles outside Tucson, Arizona.
That’s the normal part of that night, I guess.
What happens after that…well, let’s just say I’ll never be the same again.
Colt
The moment I sense her spying on me, I know I can't let her go. She isn’t what I was expecting to find. She isn’t like the rest of the mortals. So I steal her and make her my captive.
No one knows she’s been taken. No one knows where she’s gone. No one knows what her future holds, except that she belongs to me...
Well, this isn't really about the book, but I grew up in the Desert and reading this I was so caught up this It felt like I was with Vienna. Was waiting for her to get her butt snakebit!! These two were like a chemical reaction from their first meeting. But I was cheering when she busted his nuts, strong, feisty and well able to hold her own. In my perfect world there would be a spin off with these two, telling us what happens next.....just saying. Pretty sure Kay Elle Parker could take a cookbook and make it sexy and hot, we'd all want a sequel to it. I can just imagine the poor Turkey all trussed up on the cover. On that weird note I just have to say, highly recommend, if you trust the word of a turkey trussing weirdo.
The Vampire's Captive is tenacious and so unbelievably sensuous at times. Kay Elle Parker's take on the vampire trope is absolutely flawless. I thoroughly enjoyed Colt and Vienna's banter but I loved the sassiness of Vienna. She cannot control her mouth at all, and it gets her into a lot of really bad situations. This book is highly recommended for those who love the vampire genre!
I absolutely loved Colt and Vienna. They were a spectacular pairing. I loved how protective Colt became of Vienna and how possessive he was during their passionate lovemaking. I was amazed and inspired by Vienna's strong personality. She exudes self-confidence despite the odds stacked against her and brings forth the survivor in her. When these two come together it is explosive inside and outside the bedroom. They have such complimentary personality traits that they make one kick-ass unit.
Adding in the element of vampires as human traffickers was genius! This book read like an action suspense thriller always trying to figure out how the story would unravel. The topic of sexual assault and sexual abuse is always one that will incite strong opinions. I know that some people freeze when facing sexual assault and then later regret their lack of action. I was one of them. I love it when I read about strong women who react, who tear out eyes, scratch skin off, spit, punch, kick even if ultimately they are still abused. Thank you for giving me a Vienna whom I can always feel redeems my caught-in-the-headlights reaction. Makes me feel empowered to know that some victims give them hell despite the abuse they endure.
Colt is that unexpected surprise in the eye of the storm. The transformation we see him go through is beautiful. A vampire who has lived too long and lives a carefree life turns out to be a self-less loving vampire. He has sacrificed much for five decades to bring down a human trafficking ring; this is definitely not a vampire who doesn’t care. And of course Vienna literally lights up his dark existence (he lives in basement/cellar of an abandoned warehouse). She is an unexpected joy in his dark world. Her sassy attitude and undefeated spirit inspires the best in Colt.
In addition to the sensual jaw-dropping panty wetting scenes, this book hit me in the philosophical feels. I was so engaged in the whole monsters v. humans analysis; who and what is a monster and are humans the better option. This book totally flips those notions. Is a bloodsucking vampire ONLY that? Can there be more to them than that one thing? Are we only to be defined by the bad/evil in us? Can we and are we more than just the bad in us? Can a dead vampire be more humane than evil humans? Humanity is an amazing concept and I loved how Kay Elle Parker provokes very thoughtful and philosophical ideas about the term humanity.
Kay Elle Parker has left me like a dried up vampire yearning and needing more of her delicious and masterful writing to survive the withdrawal. I just hope my next hit of her writing comes soon!
Vienna walked for a long time while in the Tuscon heat after her car is carjacked and she is left without her phone, car or cash. While she's resting for a moment, she overhears and exchange between a couple of men and finds out that vampire's are real, she tries to keep quiet until the men leave but Colt catches her when she goes to leave.
Colt is undercover for Lucius the king of vampires. There's some bad guys trying to round up all the Rhonulls and either breed them to make more or sell them to the highest bidder. So Colt has a lot on his plate but he's also kidnapped Vienna and the longer she stays with him, the more he's falling for her.
Vienna is a Rhonull, her blood is addictive to vampires but they would do anything to find her and keep her as a blood slave. So when Colt drinks from her he knows that he either has to kill her to keep her from being bred and kept as a slave or he needs to try and keep her safe himself.
This book made me laugh, cringe and sigh so many times. The fact that Vienna gets high on Colt's blood and thinks she's a superhero was downright hilarious. The things she does are just so funny to read but she is also so sassy, too sassy at times. I mean, she was just kidnapped by a vampire who is telling her he might kill her and she's back talking the guy. She really needed to keep her mouth shut but she doesn't seem to have the ability to at times. The funny thing is, her sass and strength is one of the things that Colt really admires about her even though he wants her to behave and submit to him.
I thought this was going to end up being a dark romance but Colt was never really unkind to Vienna and they fell for each other really fast. When Vienna did have a way to leave, she chose to stay and protect Colt instead, which made him like her even more. When Vienna finds herself in danger, Colt is ready to kill anyone who even looks at her the wrong way. I really liked these two together and loved seeing Lucius and Selene as well as some of the other people from Club Toxic make an appearance. This was a really good addition to the series.
V is for Vienna and Vampires! After Vienna is carjacked 20 miles outside Tucson, she spies on some men from behind some rocks and over- hears things she shouldn't know. Vampires exist! After the men leave and she comes out of hiding, she's caught by Colt, one hot looking sexy vampire that decides to capture her until he decides what to do with the human. It seems that Vienna isn't just a human, her blood is Rhonull, a rare bood that is special and addictive to vampires. Now Vienna needs to be protected from the the group of vampires looking to take advantage of special Rhonulls like her. Vienna is no pushover, she gives as good as she gets, vampires have nothing on a PMsing woman! Colt is struck by Vienna's attitude and her special blood, a killer combination. Vienna has no fear of Colt, he's rough, but treats her well enough and their attraction is volatile. There is plenty of hot sex, dominance and vocal banter, Vienna doesn't shut up, especially when she should. I was involved with the story from the very start and couldn't put the book down until I knew everything that happened with this exciting premise about humans and vampires. I hope to see many more books from the Midnight Doms series, they have all been wonderful with this being my favorite so far (I think I say that after each book )
The Midnight Doms just keep getting better and better! This one is particularly interesting with all the action, backstabbing, friendships and love abound! I can honestly say I’ve read them all and have not been disappointed in any of them! Vienna is a different kind of human. Smart, kicks some vampire butt, fearless to a degree and her blood is like catnip for them. I honestly laughed out loud in a lot of places in this book. Colt finds her and falls for her so fast he doesn’t know how not to! Definitely a reader must for this series! In the end, you will fall for these two and their HEA.
The chemistry here was explosive and I love vampires. This has a different take when Colt takes Vienna so it may be sensitive for some but it was written so well that it didn't even hit me. I loved Vienna's feistiness and her fight response. She is not a pushover and was exactly what Colt needed.
It sounded good, but the further in the story I got, the more ridiculous the characters and their behaviors got. Unrealistic outcomes. Just all around juvenile. DNF around chapter 8.
Have you ever had a day where one thing went wrong and that started a snowball effect that turned the entire day into a chitshow? Yeah, Vienna had one of those days. Driving down the highway, 20 miles from Tucson, she has a flat tire. She's a fairly smart, independent woman and knows how to change a tire but when a car pulls over and a guy offers to change it for her? Yep, she took him up on his offer and wound up being carjacked. Now she's walking in the Arizona heat with no car, no money, no clothes, nothing. After seemingly walking what feels like forever she comes across a rest area with the sign saying seventeen miles to Tucson. That settled it. She decided to rest there during the heat. Unfortunately for her, that's where the three men decided to meet and have their discussion. Staying in the shadows she overheard them making plans and acknowledging they were vampires. Vampires?!? Ok, now she's in the dark, at night, with vampires, no phone, no car, no money, and no one knowing where she is. She waits until she hears all three vehicles leave and decides she needs to get out of there. Yeah, Colt was smarter than she gave any of them credit for. He had heard her make noise and came back to find out what she overheard. That's when he decided he would just take her with him until he could figure out what to do about her. I'm telling you, this is not just a regular vampire/human romance. This is so full of action, adventure, hurt your cheeks laughing humor, break your heart with tears, full-on romance with all the good and evil sides of vampires on display. This is the first book by Kay Elle Parker I've read and I'm so thoroughly impressed with her style, her world-building, her characters I'm wanting part two to this storyline. I want more. You're going to love Vienna. There's just no way not to. And her personality? OMG, after Colt gives her a bit of his blood to heal an injury and her animated personality appears like she's on steroids there was no way I could keep a straight face. This was just stupendous.
Vienna is in the wrong place at the wrong time. She overhears something dangerous, and rather than kill her; vampire Colt takes her as his own. He has rules:
Rule #1; respect at all times. Sire suits me just fine. Rule #2; crying and lying will get you nowhere with me. Rule #3; as of right now, you’re mine. I’ve taken a liking to you, Vienna, and you pose a challenge.
It is a true rollercoaster ride; “I’ve never been with a man who wields care and rough handedness with equal measure, who takes everything yet gives just as much back”.
You will laugh and cry, while these characters fight and love. Killer vampires may also be snugglers. Emotional and entertaining, this story will impress you with the originality and skill Ms. Parkers presents her written word. I absolutely loved it!!
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
I've know about Kay Elle Parker for awhile now but only recently started reading some of her books. Why did I wait so long? This series, Midnight Doms, is one of my favorites because I love hot vampire stories. And with Colt, we get HOT!!!! The interaction between Colt and Vienna just made my evening as I sat and read their story. I laughed in places and swooned in other places. With all the books in this series by all the different authors, Ms. Parker's story is right up there at the top as far as favorites. Now, if only I could find a Colt of my own!!! Seriously, get this book!!!
Vienna is having a very bad day and when Colt pounces oh boy it gets better and better, these two are off the charts hot and oh so good together they just click like their made for each other and will have you laughing then melting in a big old puddle. I adore Vienna she has no filter at all and the things that come out of this woman's mouth are awesome and you think you'd be scared but nope one of a kind girl right there and Colt oh Lord sexy vampire every single word. This is full of non stop action, betrayal, lust and danger along with the writing it is truly phenominal.
Colt and Vienna’s story was fantastic! Just the kind of bossy vampire read I enjoy. This had plenty of heat, a great big dose of action and surprisingly some very emotional & sweet moments too. My first read from this author and I will definitely be looking for more.
I loved Vienna and Colt's story. Intense, steamy, emotional and dramatic, this book pulled me in and kept me totally captivated throughout. The sparks, chemistry and connection that blazed between this pair was practically tangible. A great new entry in this sinfully addictive series that always leaves you satisfied but yet, always hungry for more. I am of my own accord posting a forthright review.
This was a very good addition to the Midnight Doms series. Vienna ends up stranded on a dark desert highway. She finds a giant boulder at a wayside to rest behind away from prying eyes. Three cars pull up and she overhears three vampires making plans to smuggle human blood and people. After the cars pull away she thinks she's in the clear and soon realizes she isn't. One of the vamps named Colt knew she was behind the big rock and waited for her to come out of her hiding place after he had moved his car down the road. The backgrounds of the characters take time to be revealed. Vienna was funny, smart, and kick-ass. Colt, the Vampire Dom was interesting. You have no clue what he's all about at first. It actually takes 3/4 of the book for his whole story to be revealed. There are twists and turns in this book that really keep you on edge.
This author can write paranormal romance, particularly Vampire. I have been a huge fan of hers since discovering her in the Hangman's Haunt series and then the Black Light (BL) series. At this point, I am not sure that there is anything that she cannot write. Her talent and her love of what she is doing shine through in her stories. This book was just an example of that.
One of the things that I love the most about this book is the banter between the characters. Vivienna made me crack up several times. There were a few times that I found myself questioning if she would act this way--verbally and physically-- if she truly was just a normal human. I liked that the author explored the idea that there might be more to Vivienna than what appears to the eye. I loved how Colt managed to control her and clicked the way that she did. I liked how well she wrote characters that were originally crafted by other authors remaining true to those characters but also making them feel fresh and relevant again. The steamy times were HOT. I learned in BL that this author can write some BDSM. She is multifaceted when it comes to writing.
This has been an OUTSTANDING series of interconnected stories with superb characters. I highly recommend it. This would have been my favorite if it wasn't for a few little details. I need everyone to read anything that this author writes so that she can write faster because I need all the words.
Another world to submerge yourself in. It's almost like you're sitting in a virtual reality room and are right in the middle of it all. From the pebbles under her shoes to breath on his neck.
All. The. Feels.
It's my favorite thing about Ms. Parker's books is that everything outside of the book fades away. It's blown away and sucks you in. It's the best reality escape. And emotional release.
This might just be me, but some of the best scenes were when Vienna was tripping on blood. It was almost like comic relief that she was in her own head and totally oblivious to the danger around. It reminds me of a quote "I laugh in the face of danger!....then I hide til it goes away."
I love the chemistry between Colt & Vienna it is purely electric and kept you wanting more.
The action was so greatly detailed I could feel it. Even when faced with death there's a whitty come back from either of the two.
"She was never my captive, but I'll always be hers." 🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️
My only advisory for a reader is don't plan on doing anything important once you open this book. It turns YOU into the vampire's captive... In all the best ways. I've burnt dinner and forgot the laundry. Oops.
It’s been a while since I’ve read a vampire romance and this one definitely delivered! It grabbed my interest from the first page and I couldn’t put it down. The storyline was perfect blend of action and suspense, great humor, explosive chemistry between Colt and Vienna and sizzling hot steamy scenes! This author always delivers amazingly well written story with strong and well developed characters.
I just can’t stop fangirling over Vienna! Like don’t get me wrong, of course Colt is a sexy dominant and possesive vampire that will melt your panties. But Vienna definitely stole the show in this story! She was strong, feisty and full of sass. She had so much fight in her and was fearless, never showing weakness. She definitely kept Colt on his toes and I loved the push and pull and great banter between these two. I couldn’t get enough of them!
Kay Elle Parker delivered another must read story for all vampire lovers and great addition to The Midnight Doms series!
This is the first time I have read this author and I gotta say I loved her. This book flowed from the first page to the last. I didn't want it to end. It had it all love, drama, heartache, and just a passion like no other. Vienna is in the wrong place at the wrong time after being hijacked by idiots. Now she's a witness to a conversation that is about to turn her world upside-down. What she doesn't realize is the man who catches her might be her greatest downfall. Colt has been alive for centuries and doesn't put up with the BS, but when he catches someone interlooding on his conversation that could get the human killed well his life is about to change. Now they are fighting to stay alive him so he doesn't turn to dust and her so she doesn't die. I loved this and how it really does captivate you. Find out if Colt can save Vienna before it's to late and the nasty man does unthinkable things to her. And find out if love can conquer all.
Holy water in the coffee...Kay Elle Parker has written an cracking great addition to the midnight Dom series, I have laughed, cringed and fist pumped the air as Vienna and Colt make a kick ass couple... Vienna’s day has gone from bad to worse is a dramatic way car jacked and abandoned only to stumble into a human trafficking deal and Colt who discovers Vienna goes into over protective Dom mode..as Vienna takes a stand in any challenge...with some hilarious twists... This book is high on snarky dialogue, action, suspense and hot hot sexy scenes that was hard to put down...definitely worth five hot stars ⭐️
This book was action from page one. Vienna is filled with sass, even with a huge good looking vampire standing over her ready to punish her. Countess Vienna or Hurricane Vienna, take your pick, that's that you get with her. Her first drink from Colt has her thinking all kinds of accomplishments that she's capable of achieving, hilarious, Mount Everest, tanks, Irish jig's, marathons, Superman, "sipping margaritas at the finish line", but she has to draw the line somewhere, and that's when she says " that drawbridge won't be coming down for anything."
Totally action packed, page turner, hilarious and droolworthy read.
And there she goes and invents a new angle to vamp lore! Ms Parker has a very distinctive voice at anything she writes, but this time she has outdone herself with a snarky, foulmouthed, immensely lovable heroine. Her antics, even in mortal danger, have an underlying flavor of master-bitch with a comeback to everything and anyone. Her captor starts out as a really bad, bad-boy-vamp. But you always have the feeling there's more to him than meets the eye. And there is! Boy, is there! We get intrigue, betrayal, fight scenes with all the trimmings, and of course that extra ingredient making it all so worth while.... !!! Vampires do it with all their senses, all the time, steamy, hot, mega sensual,..... Necessarily keeping to platform standards here.... Phew!!! Go, read, enjoy!
SO UNBELIEVABLY GOOD!!!! This entire series is spectacular and this incredible journey that Renee Rose and Lee Savino have created is one of a kind. Parker is one of my favorite authors and to hear that she was joining this series was a book reader's dream come true! In this book, we meet Colt who is an almost 700 years old vampire, and Vienna a stranded hitchhiker who is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Our favorite supernatural couple, Lucius and Selene and so many of our favorite characters make an appearance in this book. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time from trying to figure out Colt to praying that they make it through. This book was a fantastic addition to the series and a MUST read if you love HOT, POSSESSIVE, and DANGEROUS vampires....
i absolutely loved this book. Kay Elle Parker always sucks me in with her books and this one was no exception. I got totally lost in this book. Vienna and Colt were both amazing characters and i loved them both... the chemistry between them was just amazing.. and Vienna had me cracking up. she is an amazing character, sassy, funny and lord what she has to get thru in this story she is a strong FMC. Colt.. lord i loved that character..
and as i have come to know with all Kay Elle Parker books it has All The Feels! laughing, crying, heartbreak, happiness and everything in between. I so can't wait for her next book to release so i can get lost between the pages again!
When you receive an ARC for a book from an author you are not that familiar with, you never know what you'll get. What I got was a fantastic read by an author who I am excited to read more from. Colt and Vienna's story was a roller coaster full of twists and turns, steam, surprises, and so much more. I loved the tension between these two and the chemistry was intense. This vampire series is written by a variety of authors but each one has been a delightful surprise. Kay Elle Parker has a new fan and I can't wait to read more from her. I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
I haven't read a vampire romance in awhile and this one was good! Vienna unexpectedly finds out that vampires exist and in the same hour gets kidnapped by one. Colt is one, hot man. And he's in deep with some Russian vamps and the elite. He's delivering a product and evidently he's undercover. V is sassy and impossible. She's a challenge and Colt loves that! He might be falling for her, but he may not be able to keep her safe once he finds out what she's hiding. This story had some great action scenes and some very steamy scenes. You'll cheer these two on near the end. Sometimes revenge is a dish best served cold... Great story, 4 stars!
Ok so I'm not going to lie at first Vienna got really on my nerves. But as the story progressed I actually started liking her. She is bit bratty, but after a while she started to grow on me and I liked how feisty she was. And I felt she needed that feistiness for all the things she needs to go thru in the story. And the story just got better for me the longer I read. I liked how the story progressed and I think it really picks up around the 40% mark. Totally recommend if you like vampires and if you like this author. She does a great job with how she portrays them and you even get a glimpse of the vampire king and queen. Which I loved seeing! Totally recommend you try this one!
My second by this author, and I am definitely checking her back list, not my first Midnight Doms series! I absolutely loved this addition!
The dialogue was amazing and had me smiling from ear to ear! Always the hot, sexy goodness you come to expect from this amazing group of authors in this series!
I've been to Tucson, so I loved that aspect of the story too!
Where can I get me a Colt?!
I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Colt and Vienna, their story was phenomenal. This is the first non anthology book by Kay Elle Parker that I’ve read but I need more now! Absolutely one of my top favorite reads of 2020. This book will make you feel, make you laugh (a lot) and need a cold shower. Colt is the quintessential tall, dark and handsome bad boy and Vienna, well I want to be her when I grow up. Y’all gotta read this!
