Elain lies about a vision and winds up as the Night Court’s emissary to the Spring Court, trying to prevent the Dread Trove from falling into the wrong hands and wrestling with the gifts the Cauldron imparted when she was Made. Lucien, asked to join her, must contend with secrets about his mating bond. Meanwhile, Tamlin struggles to lead the Spring Court in the aftermath of the war with Hybern. And Vassa, the human queen in their midst, wrestles with the enchantment that turns her into a firebird by day, robbing her of the power of speech and human thought.
Looming over all of them is uniquet peace in Prythian and the threat of Koschei, the death-lord with unimaginable power.
With powers both magical and monstrous, the quartet at the Spring Court will have to wrestle with their own natures and the evil that surrounds them. Will the struggle save their world, or doom it?
Bloom & Bone was a pleasure to read. I thoroughly enjoyed the pairing of Tamlin and Elain, especially with how thoughtful and intentional Rachel was in writing their story.
I wasn’t totally sure about the pairing at first especially considering Tamlin & Feyre’s history. Putting Tamlin’s behavior aside for a second, I’m one of three girls so I’ve always felt that specific connection to the Archeron sisters and the thought of any romantic involvement with my sisters exes or vice versa is just ehhh… gross and not really for me. However, considering this is fantasy and there’s a mating bond involved an exception can be made. 😅 (at least that’s how I’ve rationalized lol)
Anyways, my thoughts 💭⬇️
Redemption arcs are my favorite to read and Tamlin is just so complex. I still have my issues with him but I do believe that sometimes people truly can change for the better. Maybe that’s naive of me, but love him or hate him I don’t believe that Tamlin is an evil character to his core. I think it’s easy to forget the wrong things that some of our most beloved characters have done as the good tends to outweigh the bad, but I really think if Tamlin was given a proper arc he could be worthy again. Speaking of, I loved his arc in this fic and seeing him become worthy of being High Lord of Spring & of Elain’s love (mating bond or not).
I also loved reading more about Elain as I have always felt a pull towards her. It was enjoyable to read how she came into her powers while remaining true to what we do know about her. I adored that Elain was empowered & independent while also being feminine & delicate. Amazing character development!
There is also a lot of Lucien & Vassa in this story which I wasn’t expecting! 🦊
Verdicts in and I do indeed love the pairing of Tamlin x Elain. 🤷🏼♀️ There was a particular spicy scene in the garden and it was just 🤌🏻.
I’d definitely recommend giving Bloom & Bone a go, especially if you love a good redemption. 🤍
