Money, a mansion, and a mysterious death? Far from the inheritance she ever expected.

Could the Professor have been killed for one of his experiments? And if so, what if someone’s still looking for it?

I picked this set up on a lark. The first book was described as Steampunk, Mystery, with a hint of Romance! All these descriptors ticked everything I find enjoyabe. Only it wasn't, there was so much world building, and the by-play between the aristocracy and the commoners (which was probably right for the times) practically drove me to tears. And for me there was a lot less Steampunk and Mystery than I had envisioned! The second half the book was much better where the Mystery actually ramped up... I found that the second book was very much like the first, with a tad more Steampunk which improved on the overall story! But, Ohhhh myyy gods, that flirty little romance the blurb hinted at, was all-out cringe worthy, yuck! I found that I couldn't bring myself to start the third novel! Jennifer Smith was okay, I mean she didn't have any damning habits, but I didn't really enjoy listening to her.
This is a really good series! The love stories are touching and sweet, the action is exciting, and the steampunk setting is interesting. The last book turns away from the science and gets a little magic-y, but the ending wraps everything up in a satisfying way. The only reason I gave it four stars is because it could have used a proofreader; there were places where paragraphs were broken up and sentences looked like they had been cut off. I just skipped over those parts, though, and it didn't really affect the story.
All in all, I'd read it again, and I recommend the whole series!
I'm suffering from lack of sleep caused by finishing the story of Amethyst and her large family ...loving and not so loving. The series describes English morality and views of society in the 1800s accurately and the efforts of people at all levels of that society trying to make a difference. The description of the aesthetic science was intriguing and believable. If you like steampunk, you'll really enjoy this series.
I can honestly say I've enjoyed reading this boxed set more than many others I've read in the past. Amethyst & her jewel named siblings were a delight. Helping each other & doing the right thing always was difficult yet what was done. Characters were well developed. The plot was amazing. My only issue was with some of the wording used or possible misspelled words.
I really found the story line quite intriguing. However, you are in desperate need of an editor and good proofreader. Although, I could generally read through your errors in word choice or sentence structure, they were disconcerting. The characters and their intertwining relationships are well developed.
The Aether Chronicles: The Complete Series is a captivating steampunk fantasy adventure with a unique world, compelling characters, and a fast-paced plot full of twists and turns. Fans of steampunk, fantasy, and adventure will enjoy this series. I will defiantly be reading this one again
