In this second part of the Yellow Death trilogy, the plague has pretty much run its course. Now the survivors are just trying to make a new life for themselves. Although this book is not written as a stand alone, the author does include a summary of the first book so it could be read without reading the previous book. I would certainly encourage you to start with the first book for a better understanding of the main character and the current situation. Also, you are going to want to read the final book in the trilogy.

Aftermath continues telling the story of striving to survive amidst the shortages of supplies and the bullies who gather together to basically enslave and take away what little people have. One man finds the courage to try to pull together a group of people and train them to take back what is theirs and prevent the CGU from terrorizing and enslaving more people in the future.

I have found the Yellow Fever books to be compelling reading and am really looking forward to the next book. They give a clear picture of the conditions people would likely find themselves in after a plague. The steps they take for survival seem quite real and logical.

I did receive a no obligation complimentary copy. I am voluntarily posting this review.

Couldn't put it down

It amazes me how the author keeps the story going without it becoming a muddled mess. It really grabbed me and when I was not reading, I was wondering what Cal would be doing in the book. It is just as wonderful as the 1st book and I can't wait to read the next one. Drama, action and camaraderie will suck you in until the last word is read.

This novel carries on from book 1. It shows how Cal begins to develop a strategy to fight back. Suddenly his nerdy interests are exactly what are needed, but he cannot do it alone, and his autistic nature makes finding allies difficult.
We also see Kim's journey when she wakes up after the apocalypse and her brutal awakening into how fast any semblance of law and order disappears.
Cal and Kim's paths are destined to collide, but will they be able to work together, each one overcoming their natural reticence?
This novel concentrates on the relationship between Cal and the various people he needs to help him fight back against the CUG. It also shows Cal planning an audacious attack, which seems almost impossible. At the end of the novel, all the plans seem to be falling to pieces, and so another cliffhanger leads into the third novel in the series. If you have got this far, it is difficult not to continue with the next novel in the series.
