Ironwood #1

Trash and Treasure

Rate this book
Hell hath no fury like an Ironwood scorned. Charlotte might be forced to work with Reeve Greatdrakes again, but that doesn't mean she's going to pretend to like it.

'Trash and Treasure' is book one of the new spin-off series in the best-selling 'Fae Universe,' featuring everyone's favorite supernatural hunting family, the Ironwoods.

Morrigan's incursion of Ireland might have been stopped, but her escaped general, the Battle Bard, Aneirin, isn't going to take defeat lightly.

As the family magician, Charlotte is tasked to hunt down the general so that they can remove the threat of him once and for all. There's only one problem... she's expected to work with Reeve Greatdrakes, trash magician, and the man that broke her heart without even realizing it.

Her new brother Prince Kian makes her a deal: find Aneirin with Reeve, and she gets to go and study with the legendary fae mages. It's an offer that Charlotte can't refuse, even if she has to suck up her pride and hurt feelings to do it. No problem, right?

Reeve Greatdrakes has been wondering for five years what he did to Charlotte to make her burn their friendship. Reeve will do everything he can to make amends and win Charlotte over again. There's also the small matter of a dragon curse lurking in the Greatdrakes family, and it knows a treasure when it sees it. It wants Charlotte, and Reeve can't fight it anymore.

The Ironwoods, the Fae, and the Greatdrakes are going to have to work together to stop Aneirin from releasing the other two generals into the world. It's a good thing for the world they are family and have no choice but to play nice.

Perfect for fans of K.F. Breene, Linsey Hall, and C.N. Crawford, this series follows all of the Ironwood sisters as they get into all kinds of trouble, slay their enemies, and find true love.

'Trash and Treasure' is an adult paranormal romance that contains graphic violence, swearing, and sex scenes.

Alessa Thorn can do absolutely NO wrong. She always creates the perfect blend of mythology, banter, badass female characters, epic battles, insane sexual chemistry, and some of my favorite humor! Imogen literally made me spit out my tea with her stepmom line 😂 IYKYK. I’m so excited for the rest of this spin-off series, because everything she writes has become a comfort read for me.

*Update 5/21/23* Yep, the audiobook is great too! I love and relate to Charlotte probably way too much, and I’m still obsessed with the Greatdrakes. Can’t wait to reread Imogen, Layla, and Ciara’s stories next!!! ⚔️🖤

3.5✨

This is the first book in the spin off series of the Fae Universe series. It takes place right after the third book with all my favorite characters and a new villain.

I liked this one a bit less than the others. Charlotte is a total bad ass and I loved seeing more of her family and the Greatdrakes, but I found Reeve to be lacking. In the first 3 books, all the fae princes were super possessive, aggressive, and powerful af. I found Reeve to be kinda tame compared to them. Charlotte has a bit less of a personality than the other 3 female characters.

This series is super quick and fun regardless. Fates mates, spice, curses, battles, and violence. Everything you could want for a fantasy romance.

Friends to enemies to lovers. Oh my!

I adore the fae universe and diving into Alessa’s books are like going home after a very long time away.

I loved digging into Charlotte and Reeve’s stories while still getting a glimpse of the old faithfuls as well as a bit more screen time with the Ironwood ladies AND now the Greatdrakes?

The banter, the story, the spice. It’s all perfection, as always.

I consumed this instalment in less than 24 hours and I CANNOT WAIT FOR IMOGEN’s story!!

Thank you, Alessa, for always giving us what we need even when we don’t know we need it.

If you haven’t read the Fae Universe books 1-3, I HIGHLY recommend doing so first as this is a continuation. You won’t be disappointed.

a quick read for when you’re bored
though charlotte and reeve were not my fav couple they were still cute

minor spoilers:

i think i would’ve liked the book better if maybe it wasn’t so cliche by making the heroine a virgin and then making the guy fuck around during the separation
the h ofc was an underrated beauty who couldn’t believe that the hero was interested in her
the only saving grace was that the heroine wasn’t a doormat (most of the time)

safety:
virgin girl
manho guy?
5 year separation
heroine celibate
hero dated quite a bit during the time but could’nt forget the h

"You really scared me. Then you just went straight for the first monster that turned up like it was nothing. I honestly don't know whether to be angry, impressed, or aroused."

Charlotte Ironwood is a total baddie and knows who she is but even in a family full of warriors and hunters she stands out as the only magickally attuned one of the bunch. She has to figure out her own power and harness all that she can do before she has a chance of stopping Aneirin (the evil magician battle master who has an army of horde creatures loose in the world). Trust is something she struggles with for others and self confidence for herself and it hits you as thoughts come in her head that this is what it feels like to doubt yourself and always out that added unnecessary pressure on yourself.

Reeves is the perfect second chance romance guy who is here to work with her and fight the evils of their world together. He comes from a long line of powerful magicians with a twist…he also has dragon magick! I love a good twist to a character design.

This is book one in the Ironwood sisters series but could be considered book 4 if you read the Fae Princes series because there is crossover. I recommend reading them all in order it helps you to have a clear idea of what’s going on and the relationships between them all, though you can pick up most of the plot without it.

The beauty of this script involves some super juicy tropes Fae magick, sigil magick (which is not one that is touched on enough IMO) fated mates, second chance romance, and slight found family vibes as well.

Also when you read this be prepared for a greenhouse scene that will get your blood pumping in the fiercest way!!!! 😉🪴

Trash and Treasure was one hell of a start for this new series. We are back in Alessa's fae universe, but this time we are following the Ironwood sisters. This first book follows Charlotte who is a crafty, magic wielding badass and her love interest Reeve, a brother of the Greatdrakes family. This book was filled with feisty females, devoted partners, witty banter and the perfect balance of spice and swoon. I was excited to see the fae princes again and absolutely adored how they took on the 'big brother' role with the Ironwood sisters. I've never had a big family, but always wanted one. If I had the chance to choose, I'd definitely want to be a part of this crew.

The ending of this book was one of my favorites ever. First you have that epic scene where Charlotte goes to rescue her man like the badass queen she is. But to make it even better, we have Imogen being a whole mood. I'm deadass in love with her. How can you not love her when she legit flipped off a death god after he asked for her name and she responds with "It's Miss Go Fuck Yourself. Thanks for healing me again, Daddy." When I tell you that Alessa never lets me down with these books, I mean it. This shit still makes me laugh. 😂

Ebook. Purchased. I really really enjoyed this one, probably more than any of the first 3 fae books. What I have come to appreciate and love about Alessa’s books over the last few years is that they are reliable and consistently enjoyable while being fresh stories. I am excited to continue reading this series.

Out of all the Ironwood sisters Charlotte was my least favourite, so it's no surprise that her book wasn't mindblowing. It felt a lot like instalove and the whole story under-developed. It wasn't bad but full of tropes/cliches that I didn't enjoy. Still OK if you are invested in Alessa Thorn books.

I'm always a bit skeptical that spin-off series will be as good as the original but this does not disappoint. After being introduced to the Ironwood's in book 3 of the Fae Universe series, we now are learning the story of Charlotte as she needs to work with her former best friend Reeve to help tie up loose ends from the battle from the original trilogy. The chemistry and spice in this book is great. I'm loving this series.

[ BOOK INFO ] -----------------------
★★★☆☆ 3/5 okay
tags: fantasy romance, f/m, fated mates, hidden mutual pining, alpha-male

Pages: 236
Chapters: 29 (excluding prologue & epilogue)

👥POV(s): Charlotte, Reeve and a few chapters from Imogen
📝Ending: HFN (Happy for now)
📚Series? Yes. Has the sort of cliffhanger with unanswered questions.

Each book has its own main antagonist that belong to an overarching plot, but Charlotte and Reeve get their HEA . The few chapters from Imogen's perspective and the epilogue acted as a set-up for the next book, featuring Imogen and Arawan's romance.

NOTE: read as a part of the digital boxset.

[ CONTENT WARNINGS ]——————-

[ Q’s ]——————————————

Q: Love triangle?

Q: unrequited love?

Q: virgin heroine trope?

Q: Character death? (of those in main cast)

Q: Betrayals?

[ COMMENTS ]——————————

+ dislike how drugging a group of innocent people by spiking their drinks was brushed off as 'desperate times call for desperate measures.' Also an instance where they lie to the other person about what they were given.

+ some lines felt inorganic, like the author was spelling out certain things (especially in terms of the romance) instead of a natural dialogue

+ feels like the book is hinting at romances for Reeve Greatdrakes' brothers (Basset, Apollo and Valentine)

+ felt like the scene where Reeve's ex appeared as the stereotypical jealous-ex ‘bitch’ was unnecessary and an overused plot device that I personally just hate. She appears for that one scene to be 'defeated' by Charlotte then never appears again.

+ felt like Reeve and Charlotte were at the point of reconciliation very quickly. Was hoping for a slower burn.

[ CONCLUSION ]——————————

The book was okay and progressed as expected. Some cheesy lines and sentiments. Like the premise of the series (dual POVs, different protagonists and romances each book). Already bought the boxset so will continue with the series. Still interested in seeing the stories of characters that have appeared in this series.

3.5 stars I didn't care that much about Charlotte and Reeve but the magic/magician aspect of this was cool with all the spells and sigils and I liked the Greatdrakes brothers a lot. this book's ending set up Imogen's story next I'm excited for that but unsure about the other sisters' stories lol

It had been about two years since I last read the Fae series so it took me a few chapters to begin to get into the story. Especially with remembering the characters.

At first I wasn't too impressed by Charlotte. Not because she was highly intelligent, socially awkward or obsessed with magic. No, my problem was perhaps more with the authors choice on how to portray her too. Particularly the WHY she completely ghosted her former best friend and magician, Reeve, five years previous.

Honestly when we were finally told what drove her to act to cold and shut him out I wanted to throw a book at her! It was so incredibly immature. They were in college. Both adults. But she overheard him saying unflattering and not so nice things about her and even admitting her was her friend to get access to her family's library to some guy named Alex. Reeve didn't have a clue she overheard this conversation. So for five years the poor man was completely clueless why a grown woman whom he admired (who he also knew to be his mate) and was falling for just up and ghosted him so badly she even quit college.

Honest to God that was just too immature to accept. Sorry not sorry, y'all.

But eventually (and earlier in the book than I expected, thank God) Reeve finally learns the why behind her shitty behavior. He naturally apologizes and explains himself but of course Charlotte is too stubborn but half and thinks she could never trust him now but accepts his apology.

Thankfully that childish drama was handled at the beginning and by 30% the plot truly gets rolling and that's where it got interesting.

I actually really liked Charlotte and Reeve as a couple. I grew to like Charlotte as the book progressed once I was able to put that other childish behavior behind me.

I thought it was sweet how much Reeve showed he cared for her and went all in from the beginning to make sure she knew he loved her. Even before she knew she was his mate. I also especially loved how Charlotte loved his father and brothers. They made her feel seen and understood in a way only Reeve ever had before and it was cute to watch her embrace his family so happily.

Overall it was a good read. I enjoyed it more than I expected at first.

"This is going to hurt, so scream pretty for me, darling."

Charlotte hasn't forgiven Reeve for what he did back when they were in school. Reeve still doesn't know what he did to lose his best friend, the girl he wanted to ask out. Charlotte won't even give him the chance to find out. But they have no choice now. They have to work together in order to stop a god from ending their world.
______________________________

Some of my favorite quotes from this book come from Arawan. I'll announce that first.

I don't usually go for the friends to lovers. Technically in this one they weren't friends anymore but still. I did love Reeve though. He was such a flirt, charming. He was the definition of fun to me. He was more upbeat than the other males in this series. A little like Killian but not.

Charlotte is more studious and quiet. She is badass in this book though. I love the Ironwoods because they are all girls who have no problem taking down a threat and they all have a different way of doing it. Charlotte uses magic and is the only one in the family that can. Reeve is from a family who uses magic and so they went to the same school.

This book is shorter so it doesn't take long for Reeve and Charlotte to work things out. I loved their romance and some of my favorite smut scenes are from this. I loved the greenhouse scene and the one where they are in Reeve's room for the first time. So gooooood.

The plot in this one didn't grab me like the other ones. It kind of reminds me the second book with Bayn. I'm invested in the characters and want more of them but I could skip the plot. The ending was fast, maybe a little rushed? I was expecting Charlotte to have a little more trouble than she did at the end but I loved that it was her who needed to save him.

I can't say it enough, this series is really good. Each book is different and features new elements. The story keeps evolving in each book and they all interconnect. At the end of each book, I just can't wait for the next one.

I think I'm a fan of Alessa Thorn in general.

Holy Cow! I am absolutely blown away by Alessa Thorn's writing. This series just keeps getting better and better. The Ironwoods and the Greatdrakes are my favorite families of all time!

Reeve is perfect, Charlotte is a badass. I don't need to say anything more. 😂

If you haven't read it, READ IT! And the rest of the Fae Universe. Especially if you love mosters getting a HEA. 🖤🖤

And the antagonists are getting insaner by the minute. One General down, two to go. What can possibly go wrong? 👀👀 Damn, I wanna know so badly. I wanna know who's up next: Vili or Hafgan? I'm guessing Hafgan, but I really wanna know how Arne and Layla's gonna kick Vili's a**. Beacuse their book should definitely be written in the future. 😈

And also! Imogen and Arawan. I have been waiting for that to happen for so freaking long! And this book gave us a teaser. I can't wait to see what's up Arawan's sleeve.

I love this author. I love this series. Hate the narrator used this time. Did he not get the brief that everybody's in Ireland? Why is everybody super British except for the one guy who actually lives in Britain who he does with the Irish accent?? WTF

Meanwhile that was nothing to do with the actual author and the story, I but it did take me off enough I thought it needed mentioning and quite frankly he's going in the crappy narrator shelf.

Meanwhile back to the book: I will tell you that she continues to write really excellent banter, an great plot line that is throughout the whole series with subplots that actually make sense!

I love that the woman are kick ass and especially the Ironwood women - and the protagonists. But I found this one just way too easily resolved.

I know that it's more of a novella than the other books previous but it just didn't hit all the notes for me. I'm also not a big fan of enemies to frenemies to lovers but I know a lot of you guys are and you'll probably absolutely love it. This felt a little bit like juvenile genre a " l i t e " version of what was going on except of course you got all the sexy time. But even that was honestly kind of boring. Reeve was supposed to be a dragon and yeah that's talked about with his eyes but then nothing else happens with that. Where did that plot go? There was so much going on here is he going to turn into a dragon does he had just have Dragon blood does he just have Amber eyes that go dragony - what the heck man there's so much to explore here. Maybe it's coming up in later episodes but at this point that dropped the four star down to a three and a half for me

Still an excellent book and I look forward to the next ones.

2.5/3 This was the first book in the spinoff series and I'm starting to get annoyed with the dialogue and the obsession with calling the Princes "my brothers". I honestly wish this series was longer so the character development would be stronger and it would be a more enjoyable slow burn. I didn't love Charlotte and Reeve (dragon mates-eye roll) but it did move the story along. Onward!

First and foremost, I want to officialise my love for Imogen. That woman is a true queen and I cannot wait for God Touched!

Now. I really enjoyed Trash and Treasure. It was a fun, quick, and entertaining book. Also, I had missed both the Ironwoods and the princes. Reeve and Charlotte’s romance is friends to (one sided) enemies to lovers and it was irresistible. The chemistry was intense and the love was fiery. Not going to lie, this book had all the right feels!

That being said, my favorite thing about Trash and Treasure (other than Reeve’s sweet and easy going personality) were the Greatdrakes. These men own my freaking heart. I pretty much have a crush on each of them, even their dad (especially Cosimo), and I am hoping that at some point or another, they’ll get their own stories. Fingers crossed.
On top of that, I adored their relationship with both Reeve and Charlotte. It was amazing, fun and it never failed to make me smile.

Last but not least, Alessa Thorn included two chapters under Imogen’s point of view in Trash and Treasure, and yes I’m a goner. I mean, on top of basically being in love with Imogen, I can’t resist Arawan. Also, she called him daddy and apparently it’s a thing that I like nowadays so yes, please.

Overall, Trash and Treasure was great! It was very easy to leave reality behind and get lost into the story. I would have stayed, I would definitely have stayed just to avoid my very boring Monday.

i felt like roles were reversed here. reeve was a damsel in distress with charlotte saving him.

the main conflict of the book between main characters was a miscommunication trope. 🙄

i didn’t like charlotte at the beginning. she was being selfish. boohoo.
“Not so long ago, Reeve Greatdrakes had broken her heart and made her life hell, and be damned if she was going to let him have the opportunity to do it again.”

reeve’s excuses about the reason he told shit about charlotte were pathetic. if he was protecting her how come he had all those awful comments about her ready to go?

but this was true.

“You know, you weren't the only one that lost a friend that day. You walked away without even talking to me when we could've worked this out with one phone call. But you didn't. You let it die. That's how much our friendship meant to you. Fucking nothing," he said and slammed the door behind him.”

again mmc didn’t tell fmc about mating bonds. i’m getting sick of it in this series.

i enjoyed the humor though.

“He smiled crookedly at Charlotte. "Gotta say, that sword is doing things for me."
Charlotte's eyes narrowed. "I swear if you make one joke about me being able to handle a big weapon, I'll stab you with it.”

i started this series for imogen’s story so i’m really excited for the next book.

>>SPOILERS AHEAD<<
-----‐--------------------‐--------------------

So this starts in the middle of what appears to be a war.. they have won the first battle against the goddess Morrigan. But her general has escaped and is summoning her other generals..
Any who our MC and MMC are fated mates (she is human, he some sort of dragon descendent who cant shift but still has the mating urge and our MC is his mate) they have known eachother for a long time, friends, he knew she was his mate. But even knowing this, when she overheard him warding a "competitor " off of her by telling him that he was only using her and she ended their friendship and left the school they were going to. He just let her.. tried to call her, but when she didn't answer or call him back, he dated other women.. only when Morriagn started a war, 5 years later, did they meet again..
She also dated, but she didn't know they were mates, and she was hurt by his words and betrayal so even though she was still in love with him she caaually dated, no realationships.
He CHEATED!!!! NOT OKAY!!! He tried to replace her and was in a relationship with one of the strongest magicians, so even though they brush over it in the book. I can't get over it!!

Did I just finished the book with a big goofy smile? Oh yes. And the epilogue was just as amazing as I wished. Cannot wait for Gen and Arawan in God touched.

Let's circle back a little bit and talk about Charlotte and Reeve. We got a glimpse of Charlotte and Reeve in the past books. You just know something was going on there and had to know what was up. Finding what was going on with them was such a great ride. The snark is real in this book, but in a perfect way. Alessa Thorn knows how to have the right amount in her books. Charlotte is definitely a Ironwood but I really loved that there’s more to her with her magic. I really enjoyed exploring that side of her. The chemistry between her and Reeve is hot! They just balance each other so well.

We getting know the drakes family as well and I guess we will see some characters again (as MC as well). I always wanted brothers so please adopt me right in ❤️

This book is for me the best one in the series and everything is getting this full circle what started in the Blood Prince. As I wrote in the beginning, I cannot wait for God Touched.
