日抛型人设 Daily Disposable Persona

Rate this book
As Zong Yan sat in the classroom, he always felt like the odd man out. His body was there but his soul had sneaked out the window. He wanted to do anything, wanted to be anyone, as long as he wasn’t himself.

He had a cool and unbelievable superpower:

He could extract different persona cards from the void with his bare hands. With a high enough “SAN” value, Zong Yan could become an entirely different being. Superpowers, ancient gods, eldritch powers, even… an Outer God.

I went into this without much knowledge of the eldritch gods/concept, nor any real idea about Lovecraftian lore. I was expecting a certain degree of abstract ideas (since the magic system and characters were quite unique) and certainly got theories and concepts thrown at me that intrigued and confused and yet, deeply interested me.

Which is something to be said of a BL novel.

Romance aside, since that is difficult to really explain without being able to accept that a being that doesn't care about humans can come to love a human (who may not really be all that human)...by sending its mind into another time/realm to contemplate the possibility and meaning of love for millions of years due to having seen the relationship in a/the future, in the mind of the human(?) it will come to love...yeah, Yog-Sothoth is an interesting male lead.

Still, it was written in quite a believable way, so I didn't wither over it for long before getting caught up in reading on.

I bought a book on Lovecraft's mythology after reading this novel, not because it was amazing (the five stars is simply becuase I enjoyed reading it and it left an impression, not because the plot was anything extraordinary, though it certainly was fun), but due to the way the world viewed and expressed through the eyes and minds of divine/godly beings so far above human understandings, was written.

Humans really are mere specks of dust, wandering amongst other specks of dust, not knowing that even the grains of sand we consider nothing, hold more meaning that any of us ever might.

It's always great to find novels that leave an impression, enough so that it makes one want to learn and read more. This was one of the novels that pushed me into new worlds and it was honestly a good read.

I am absolutely too stupid for everything in this book about timelines and universes and space, like I was so lost. However, I loved every second of it. I really liked Zong Yan as a main character; he was so real and smart and entertaining. Professor Tawil💀 I loved from the beginning despite the attempt of mass murder, he was really funny.

Romance was like super late into the book, so I was on edge the whole book but like the book was so good regardless. I would have loved more of them together but this was still really well done.

My only complaint was the lack of screen time for Si Yan, He Yuan and his 2 school friends; I had expected more development in their friendship and mentorship with MC. They didn’t really play integral roles in the book

To finish with a lovely quote from the book, minor spoiler warnings!!

“An evil god will never understand what it means for a human to like or love someone. These are inferior emotions that evil gods discarded long ago. But if you’re willing—
“The Lord of Time will prove to you over a near-endless expanse of time that the feelings of an evil god will always be stronger, deeper, crazier, and far more intense than human love.”

Crazy romantic for a dude claiming to not know what love is😩
When will it be my turn😔

This started okay and very interesting but kinda dragged on the latter chapters. The extra chapters were imo unnecessary. It felt so long and bland, I was grateful when I finally finished it.

World building is okay, quite solid. It ended with all questions and mysteries answered. I just felt a bit disconnected on the story. The disparity of power between humans and the 'gods' is too huge that I sometimes don't care anymore. Memories and time lines are modified or erased a lot of times, I stopped investing too much on the secondary characters and even on the plot.

The start was really promising. I love the presence of MU (Miskatonic(?) University) on the plot. I love that part. But eventually everything just goes back and focused on our MC and the ML. The plot is sort of a decoration for our main couple's 'love' story. And the romance sucks big time. Not a fan.😥👎

I gave it a fairly okay rating because of the world building and some plot points that are interesting for me and the parts that made me laugh. An okay-ish read.
