India and the Bangladesh Liberation War

Rate this book
India and Bangladesh achieved a historic victory in the 1971 war. Yet fifty years later, important questions remain about India’s aims and policy in the war. Did India have a plan to break up Pakistan? Why was no other country prepared to support the cause of an independent Bangladesh?
Drawing on previously unexplored Indian records, eminent diplomat and historian Chandrashekhar Dasgupta dispels many myths as he sheds fascinating new light on these and other questions. Based on eighteen years of research, this is the definitive book on India’s role in the liberation of Bangladesh.

This is one of the finest accounts on how India prepared the military, political and diplomatic ground for 1971 war. It once again establishes the scholarly credentials of amb (retd) S C Dasgupta. A must read!

Bangladesh liberation has become a topic of much debate and discussion following the recent development around the bangladesh so called revolution and ousting of Sheikh Hasina. These changes have put up new questions for the experts to understand and look back and examine tye liberation war itself and that is where this amazing book by Mr. Chandrashekhar comes into action. It provides a detailed and well researched account of the involvement of india with all its machinery in the bangladesh liberation war. Mr. Dasgupta has eloquently explained the chain of events which led to the surrender of Dhaka on 16th december 1970. The book depicts how every organ of the government worked in amazing tandem to achieve a herculean task. Special emphasis has been given to the diplomatic structure's brilliant effort towards support mobilisation towards india's cause. This book is worth reading in the current environment.
