Never cheat an honest man — if you're lucky enough to find one.
Notorious but lovable con artist Dani Silver is fresh off yet another successful, rollicking scam when she receives a curious email. Some tipster says he’s got a lead on a million-dollar bottle of whiskey—and would Dani mind teaming up to snag it?
Well, no—since her informant has no idea where it is, she’d rather do it herself.
It seems the museum quality hooch has been appropriated from the original collectors, who would pay a handsome ransom—if not full price—to get it back. At the cost of a mere $20,000, Dani hires the finest criminal artists money can buy, counterfeits the distinctive bottle, and fills it with supermarket booze, knowing it’ll never be opened.
But those collectors, who own a private museum, are “America’s Sweethearts" — one’s a picture-perfect film star, the other a nationally treasured children’s book author. And therein lies a grifter’s dilemma.
Dani—giving in to pressure from her clean-living sweetie—has taken a vow never to cheat an honest mark. Which would make this an ineligible con. But no problem, her work’s cut out for her—find out all their dirty little secrets and move on to the jackpot.
Sound like fun? Lindsay’s wit and endlessly devious imagination make it practically a carnival ride.
I read this out of order of the series but I'm glad I did because the characters are very good, love the story line all through the book. Now I will have to read the first book in the series.
I loved books 1-4 and gave them all 5 stars. so this one was such a let down by comparison. The actual con is good which is what lifted this from a 2 to 3 star book.
This story contained a lot more ‘build up’ than con. To say it was a slow burn is putting it mildly.
Worse, it was appallingly edited - Nick apparently makes a comment on something when he’s not even present, Dolly is stated to have done something that was done by Trenton, phrases are re-used as if the author has run out of ideas, and there are parts that just don’t hang together - as if it was finished in a rush.
I’ve read all 5 books on the bounce. Sadly, I doubt I’ll be reading the rest in the series though, and if I’d read this one first, I’d not have read any more.
This may be the worst book I have every read. If I could give it a minus3 I would. I wanted a piece of fluff after struggling through two difficult reads (Great Expectations and Heart of Darkness). This doesn't even qualify as "fluff". The author has a light interesting style (ala Mickey Spillane), but badly needs a proofreader to point out the inconsistencies, e.g. How could someone with his arm in a cast dig a grave, kill someone with a shovel, and totally destroy everything in a house? The whole plot, if you could call it that, makes no sense. Guess it should be listed under fantasy instead of thriller.
Dani Silver is a con artist who learned the "trade" on the lap of her father and his partner. When she get the chance to recover a million dollar whiskey bottle she is interested but after finding out that the bottle has been stolen from America's Sweetheart couple who everybody loves she has serious doubts. But not all is so clear cut as it seams and Dani soon is in deep trouble - but not only she is but others who think that they are above the law. Fast paced and gripping.
I really enjoyed this series. This is fun to read. I like the characters. The plots are always good. It’s never straightforward, there are always twists. That’s part of the enjoyment; to see how Dani is going to get out of the current problem and then go on to win. And I think the series is getting better with each installment. Highly recommended.
This is the story of the scamming of a married couple who have the title of America's sweethearts with unblemished reputations and pasts. It involves illegal auctions of stolen antiques and artifacts, murders, mysteries and bottles of extremely expensive whiskeys.
Thought this was an awesome read. Took me a little while to get into it but once I did I really enjoyed it! Cons and more cons, with some pretty awesome endings. A definite must read
Very enjoyable read, funny with clever dialogue and amusing characters. I like its sort of anti-establishment angle. Did leave a couple of loose ends, however.
I loved this twisty tale where the cons keep amping up just lime Dani's pile of money. Witty and fast paced this is an intelligent farce to.keep you guessing...and wanting more.
How much could a bottle of whiskey be worth? Or three or four bottles? Who would pay? And why? Could a scam be used to somehow make millions? Only Dani Silver and a few fellow scammers know. Read and bust a gut laughing to find out.
If you've read the previous books in this series, you know that what Dani Silver is good at. You'll know she's good at cons. She learned how from her father who's notorious reputation got him a prison sentence. So, Dani took over "the family business". And, I think this one was her best. In fact, there's a con within a con that works perfectly while she watches it unfold. If you haven't read them yet, why haven't you? Its a fun series with a loveable main character and a group of people she can rely on to do the best work as she needs their particular skill set. Start with Book 1 and make your way through her wickedly interesting life.
