A good general overview of the history of Hawaii, seems to be aimed maybe at middle school students. I felt like I learned enough to make it worthwhile.

This book was anything but a captivating guide to Hawaiian Human History. Instead, it was an unstructured mess that provided almost no information at all. The author jumps back and forward in time, but worst of all, his narrative style is very hard to read. Several times he tells us "we'll talk about this later" and this "later" never happens. I have read a few books from the captivating guide series, and this one was the worst so far.

Everybody knows that Hawaii was created by volcanoes and from time to time those volcanoes make us not to forget they are still there.
Polynesians were very good at navigation due to their huge knowledge of the currents in open water and which permits them to calculate better their travels. And that is why they reached Hawaii and populated it.
An amazing book to learn about Ancient Hawaii, their history, their customs, their goods, their battles, etc. Very interesting.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I picked this up because I really enjoyed the History of Brazil book. This one I found very hard to follow. I feel like there were unclear sentences, or sometimes like one sentence contrasted the one before it. I also think I just don't like ancient history haha. I'm going to read the modern Hawaii one and see how it is

Concise History—Reads like a college term paper

If you’re looking for a quick dip into the history of ancient Hawaii, then this is a good place to start. It’s well organized and not very long, although it lacks the air of professionalism that most non-fiction books have.

This book is clearly written in a colonial mindset, historians should strive for objectivity even if the history is not their own.

Easy to read book, touched on all the basics I wanted to know. Grammar and sentence structure in this book makes it difficult to read, however. It needs an editor.

Poorly written

This had too much repetitive language and too informal a tone. While a learned some interesting facts, this was a very brief history.
