I don't really like getting anthologies and only reading a few stories. So, usually I wait until those stories are re-released outside the anthology. When I saw that this book was available separately I was therefore quite excited to dive into this story with the most amazing title ever. I was even happier when BookSprout made it possible to grab an arc of the book.
Although I haven't read Greenwood's entire backlist yet, I recognized quite a few characters in this book and I liked seeing those familiar faces and getting those familiar mentions. However, the main characters in this story were unknown to me. But although the story was short, I started to quite like them.
What I love about Laura Greenwood is that she's amazing when it comes to writing romances. Maybe her romances are not spectacular enough for some, but they're always healthy, realistic and cute. If someone reads a Greenwood and then tells me that they want a relationship like this, I wholeheartedly agree with them.
I also liked the plot and the mystery in this story. I wasn't familiar with the legend this story was based on, but reading the afterword made me appreciate this story even more. Greenwood tells us an interesting story, without ruining the tale that makes this legend epic to begin with. Sometimes a story is not about the answers.
I'm looking forward to the Coffee Shop series and can't wait for the first book!
This was a great quick second chance romance. You meet this characters in a different book and get the backstory about their relationship. Sabine is a necromancer and a archaeologist. Sawyer was her great love that got away. Hope to see these characters more in future books.
This is a fun, sweet, quick read from the book Love and Legends anthology.... Sabine is the anthropologist and her magical connection is necromancy. She's the main character and she's been sent on an job about a mysterious stone called the Humber Stone. Evidently many have tried to find out its secrets but none have succeeded only more speculations abound after each encounter. This job brings her home to England, she mainly works in Egypt, and a chance to visit with friends and family. Willow is the friend she visits and keeps in close contact with via email and texts. Willow owns a the Cauldron coffee shop and is a wiz with coffee! Luckily this books segs into a book about the Cauldron Coffee Shop so we'll learn more about Willow and get visits from Sabine also! She also runs into her ex-boyfriend Sawyer, which turns out to be a pleasant experience. He works for the Department of Magical Heritage and is trying to get her to stop her "dig" kinda of along the line of trying to save the stone. I think they're afraid something really bad will happen if the stone is disturbed. Evidently accidents happen every time someone tries to learn more about it. In this story it actually brings Sabine and Sawyer back together so maybe not just bad things happen? Is the stone magical? We'll never know! But it sets the stage for more fun with Sabine, Sawyer and Willow and even brings in Mona, of Grimalkin academy fame, into the story. I really enjoyed this story and I hope you do to!

Our heroine is an archaeologist and a necromancers to boot. That makes for an interesting combination, but not as interesting as her and her ex who just happens to be at her latest dig. That is when things get really complicated.
This is part of a series, but it is written as a standalone, so none of that is important here. It is part of the author's paranormal world in which most of her stories are set, but again, that is not important to the uninitiated. You can enjoy this either way.
The story is a paranormal romance of the slow burn variety. Like the other stories from this author, this one is well written and easy to read with well developed characters and a setting that has been detailed in many books. So we start from a very solid base and build from there. And build we do as the plot involves a bit of action, a bit of mystery and a bit of romance all mixed together to make a fast paced and fun story. Overall, another fun story from our author and I look forward to seeing what happens next.
Highly recommended.

Review for Unfortunate Decrees and Iced Coffees by Laura Greenwood, which is part of the A Cauldron Coffee Shop Story series.
The story begins with a brief summary of the Humber Stone, and I like this addition before beginning the story.
Sabine is a necromancer archeologist and her newest dig is all about a new adventure and challenge, but she didn’t expect it to be in the form of her ex. Sabine’s story is a great read and interesting, as you follow along with her friendship with Willow to her relationship with Sawyer, and the details about her dig adventure.
Willow’s character is one that’s easy to connect to, and I’m looking forward to reading more of her story in Pumpkin Spice And All Things Nice.
Side note: Loved the connection of this world to the Grimalkin Academy. As I started reading I quickly realised that Sabine was a character in This Time Is Trouble, but then more of that storyline came out as I continued to read. The interconnecting worlds is something a Laura Greenwood excels in.
Unfortunate Decrees And Iced Coffees (A Cauldron Coffee Shop Companion Story) is a quick read. The characters are known to us from the Grimalkin Academy series. Sabine is now an independent archeology professional and successful. Sawyer works for the DHM, has published articles, and is well respected. Willow is running her magical coffee shop and is still the best BFF ever.
The storyline of the Unfortunate Decrees And Iced Coffees (A Cauldron Coffee Shop Companion Story) has a little adventure, mystery, and a rekindled romance. It was apparent that Sabine and Sawyer should be together and refreshing that Sabine's long-time friend Willow supports her decisions and encourages her to follow her heart. Willow also has a mystery of her own that we can read about in Pumpkin Spice and All Things Nice.

A quick read about a necromancer, an archeological dig, a warlock ex and a mysterious magical stone. Sabine is a necromancer archeologist the head of the dig set to look into the mystery of the Humble Stone. The first day on the site her ex shows up trying to get her to shut down the dig. As things progress strange happenings occur and the stone is the center of it all. Add in a bit of a rekindled love between Sabine and Sawyer and you’ve got a fairly good short story. The book contains references and characters both from the Grimalkin Academy series and an upcoming series. It’s a decent read but I think it’s fast paced and a bit short on development of the characters. I would’ve liked a bit more in depth from them. That being said it was funny and diverting for a short read.

Necromancer archaeologist Sabine is asked to supervise a dig to excavate a mysterious stone which no one knows what it is, what it does only that it brings back luck to everyone who tries.
She accepts the challenge but from the start things go sideways with the dig and then her ex boyfriend shows up. However, being back together working on the stone doesn’t seem like bad luck at all to her as far as their rekindled relationship goes though they are still thwarted at figuring out this mysterious perplexing stone!
I enjoyed this prequel to the Cauldron Coffee Shop series and plan to start reading it next. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to all who may enjoy reading about a paranormal object with paranormal characters to figure it out. If you like this as well why not join me in this endeavor.
This was a fun, quick read revolving around Sabine Bell, an archaeologist and necromancer, trying to uncover the secrets of the Humber Stone. However when someone turns up asks her to stop the dig, the last person she expected to see was her ex-boyfriend. He dregs up unresolved feelings that she hadn't expected to feel again.
When the dig starts to go wrong, strange things happening to the site and magic having strange consequences when used on the stone, Sabine decides it probably is time to stop the dig, but not before Sabine and Sawyer manage to rekindle what they once had!
A fun, sweet second chance romance, which I hope I can read more about sometime!
I have read several books by Laura Greenwood. I have enjoyed losing myself in each of them. Sabine is an archaeologist and necromancer. She is called home to look at the Humber Stone. There are many theories and questions around the stone. While she is trying to determine the mystery of the stone, Sawyer ( her ex) tries to get her stop the dig. Will she stop it or will the mysterious stone make it stop? Will Sawyer and Sabine rekindled what they once had?

Sabine is an Archaeologist asked to head the new excavation and she finds that her ex Sawyer Tarly is there working for the Department of Magical Heritage but she finds that mysterious things are happening around The Hummer Stone and the instruments are not working properly when the dirt around the stone is being tested and Sabine is trying to figure out why. Interesting storyline and characters. Short story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Necromancer archaeologist, Sabine, is at the excavation site of the Humber Stone where strange things happen. Her warlock ex, Sawyer, wants to stop the dig. But meeting up again, can they get a second chance at reviving their relationship? Will they solve the mystery of the Humber Stone?
That touch of mystery keeps the reader totally enjoying this story and wondering how things will worth out, including Sabine and Sawyer’s relationship. We get to visit with Sabine’s best friend Willow as well. It’s always a pleasure to see familiar characters again.
Found this book a great read with interesting characters, some which I have met before in Laura’s books. I found the Humber Stone very interesting, I had not heard anything of it before so googled what it was about. Even though this book is a work of fiction I am pleased to learn about real historical artefacts. It was a sweet quick romance read like most of Laura’s books. Look forward to the new series about Willow.

Sabine and Sawyer, her ex, arrive at the same excavation for the Humber Stone, which seems to cause strange things to happen around it. They start to reconnect as the drama, surprises and steam add to their adventure. Loved the characters, the backstories and the intense feelings and emotions. The storyline keeps you glued to the pages and will not let go. The story flow is fast-paced and the dialogue is terrific. Great ending awaits you.

Unfortunate Decrees and Iced Coffees is a quick read and a great intro to the Cauldron Coffee Shop series. Sabina is a Necromancer/Archaeologist who is at the excavation site of the Huber Stone where she finds her ex Sawyer a warlock trying to stop the dig. This is a slow burn, second chance, paranormal romance between a Necromancer and a Warlock. The writing is well done, the characters are well developed and the story is packed with magic, mystery, romance, and so much more. I look forward to reading the rest of the Cauldron Coffee Shop series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I’m a sucker for a second chance. And this story looked at a second chance in a way that I kind of hadn’t considered before. It’s a quick read, but the reconciliation between Sabine and Sawyer is a slower burn type of romance. It’s also quite sweet in the way all those old feelings bubble back up to the surface of their memories. I liked this as an introduction to the series and I can’t wait to read more about Willow and her coffee shop. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
Sabine Bell is a necromancer archaeologist - when she is asked to investigate the Humber Stone, she is not expecting her ex to turn up on the dig. He wants her to stop the dig - but she is determined. Will Sawyer be able to persuade her? Or will the stone be able to do it for itself? Are Sabine and Sawyer going to resurrect their relationship, or is it really over? Loved it!

Wonderful story! A second chance and a mistery story all in one. A fast paced story with wonderful characters - both Sabine and Sawyer. I love the connection with other series - Grimalkin academy thru Mona, and the future series Cauldron Coffee Shop thru Willow. And I’m already anxious to read Willow’s story!

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW of Unfortunate Decrees and Iced Coffees by Laura Greenwood, a Cauldron Coffee prequel from the Love and Legends Anthology. This is super quick read that gives us a peek at Sabine and Sawyer's relationship and introduces us to Willow and the teapot. This fun story just puts you in the mood to keep reading!

Unfortunate Decrees And Iced Coffees by Laura Greenwood was a blast to read. Sabine is back in England and in charge of a simple dig that centers around a stone that it is old and no one knows anything about it. But instead of being more like a vacation while on a dig site, odd things start to happen and Sabine must figure out what it going on. The characters were a blast and the story fun to read. I laughed a lot.
I read Unfortunate Decrees and Iced Coffee: A Story from the Love and Legends Anthology. There is a mystery behind the new archeological dig that Sabine has been assigned to. You get to find out what happened to the teapot that was found in the last dig and disappeared. I am looking forward to learning more about the teapot in the next series. Some good comes out of this dig and there is a HEA at the end.

I always enjoy Laura Greenwood's short stories. This one got me interested almost immediately and held my attention until the very end. I liked the characters and I do not usually read necromancer books so the details and information in this story was very new and interesting to me. The story was short, cute, with a little romance. A fun short read to be sure.

..."investigating ancient sites can come with dangers."
Sabine is an archeologist who has never encountered a site like this one. Sawyer's bosses want him to shut down the dig, but as long as he's known Sabine, he's always been fascinated by the way she finds answers.
This quick read is a side story to Azil and Willow's story over at the coffee shop. It really fills out Sabine's character, and has me looking forward to seeing more of her with Willow.
Sabine has agreed to head up a dig close to home so she can spend a little time with her best friend. But when she arrives at the dig site she finds that her team aren't the only ones to be hard at work. As always these are characters are well written and compelling. I love the interactions between them. Magic, a mystery, and an interesting twist in the plot kept me engrossed in the pages of this read. I recommend this book.

Sabine's asked to figure out the Humber Stone by private funders. The site is located an hour from her home in England. She needs to find out exactly what the stone is or does. Once Sabine shows up at the dig site, she finds out that Sawyer, the man she let get away, is on site. This short story is very romantic and ends in a HEA. Very highly recommended.

Unfortunate Decrees and Iced Coffees is a prequel in the Cauldron Coffee Shop series by Laura Greenwood a slow burn paranormal romance, creative and well-written story. Sabine a very interesting character as she is an archaeologist and a necromancer which is a unique twist. I've been loving this series as well as the other series by Ms. Greenwood and looking forward to more!

This is a fast paced, short read, page turner of a novella. It is actually a peek into Willow's series. Sabine & Sawyer are nice characters and Willow seems like she's going to be very humorous. The plot is great and held my interest. So much so that I have to get Willow's series right away! I definitely recommend this novella.
This is a prequel A Cauldron Coffee Shop Story series A short, fast paced read that of course is well written seeing as it's written by Greenwood. Smooth flowing storyline that's captivating and fun. Looking forward to more!
