“We need to appear as though we are slowly falling for one another.”

Alicia desperately needs a suitor. With her first two Seasons a complete disaster, and with her father making one bad investment after another, it seems her actions might either save her family, or ruin it forever. So, when the chance arrives, she enters a fake courtship with her brother’s best friend, perhaps the most eligible bachelor of the season.

Even though his betrothed rejected him, Luke has still not given up. So, to make her jealous, he enters a pretend courtship with his best friend’s sister. Only, soon, it stops feeling like he’s pretending.

As the line between what’s real and what’s not begins to fade, Alicia and Luke find themselves caught up in more trouble than they signed up for. And when Alicia’s diary goes missing, an anonymous letter soon arrives, threatening to make her third season the most disastrous one of all…

A sweet tale of two nice people finding that love is sometimes right in front of you. Luke and Alicia's journey starts out as a ruse, but quickly turns real. The story takes a nasty twist when Alicia's journal goes missing and the horrible Fudge find it and uses it for his own purposes.
There were a couple of loose ends. I wondered why Fudge wanted so badly to marry Alicia. Just being the oldest bachelor in the ton didn't seem enough for his obsession. Perhaps he targeted her because she was on her third season, but there seemed a hidden reason behind his persistence that wasn't explained. I expected the nosey maid would have been implicated in the loss of the journal. It was a bit of a stretch that Fudge would just find it in the dark garden.
A ceremonial burning of the journal would have added a nice touch. It is, after all, still a dangerous item to keep, even in a locked box.
This book is a lovely read with, for a change, nice people all around except for the needed villains. This was an ARC that I read voluntarily and I gave it 4 stars.

A very captivating story

This is a very captivating story. This clean plot has everything you require, from brilliantly crafted characters to a thrilling storyline with lots of emotion and a bit of blackmail. This is a story of one broken engagement and two weddings. The extended epilogue is a wonderful glimpse into how the main characters relationship develops. I read an ARC copy.

Excellent!!!

This is a lovely story. It has all the makings of a sweet romance: flirting, misunderstanding, teasing, trusting, joy, and a villain wrapped up in ugly. Ms Linwood has done a beautiful job of wrapping a sweet love story, complete with a surprising courtship, in a completely entertaining way. Looking forward to her other novels, as I have no doubt that she is an excellent writer. Thanks for a great goodread!!!

A great mix of romance and drama.
What started out as two friends just wanting to help each other turned into something much more lasting and wonderful. The cast of characters were splendid, the drama well done, and the extended epilogue was a great finish. Reading this was a sheer joy I am happy to recommend it.

I love the fake relationship trope, it's one of my favourites! Which means I thought this book was great :) I loved the protectiveness of the big brother even when his best friend was a potential suitor.
The main characters were believable, even when it seems they were disregarding propriety, it was always there being mentioned. :) An enjoyable regency read for me.

Doesn't line up

It states that she has to marry because they don't have money. The first chapter stated that then didn't revisit that at all! Also we t on to discuss how she had new gowns and a fancy home plus they had enough to throw a party. Someone needs to edit this before publishing.

A Bargain with the Duke by Hazel Linwood

A charming story filled with mystery, plot twists, and love. You definitely cannot miss it!
The author does a really good job of showing all the twists and turns in the story and also showing the growing relationship between the two main characters.

Bargains and Blackmail

Easy to be caught up in with the pressures of marriage in the proper season for society and poor Alicia was desperate for a loving match. Good reading to follow her likely forced intended groom using blackmail rather than a caring, concerned Duke Luke, whom she loved. Their bargain became real instead of a ruse for a lovely happy ending.

Regency Romances

It’s hard to believe what couples had to go through to find a suitable person to marry. Alicia and Luke had to endure the strict rules of the Ton. Any hint of scandal could force a couple to wed even if they didn’t respect the other person. Luckily Alicia was able to make a love match.

fantasy to reality

You really nice story of how love can grow between two people. Their intent in the beginning led not to what they expected but to something even better as they grew closer and realized where their happiness really lay.

This was an intriguing book to read about Alicia & Luke coming together to have a false courtship for their own personal reasons.. This story has mystery, suspense, deception, blackmail, turmoil, attraction, laughter, courage, romance and love.

A Bargain With the Duke

I enjoyed reading this sweet and clean regency romance about a wallflower who became the belle of the ball once the Duke started paying her attention. The slowly unfurling love took Lucas and Amelia by surprise.

Bargain with the Duke

A Bargain with the Duke is Alicia and Luke’s story of falling in love. I did enjoy the read but the story line seemed old , no new surprises from the author It's a soft romance

This is a good book. Even though I was given a copy of this book by the author, it in no way influenced my opinion, and this is my honest review.

Enjoyed it

This is a sweet best friend's little sister/ big brother's best friend... Regency style. Throw in an old flame and a creepy old dude with HEA and that's it.... I loved it

A good bargain

It's good to have a family friend who is happy to help you find a husband . It is bad to lose your diary where you have shared every detail of how plan was to work.

Alicia is about as exciting as a piece of lumber, and the two main characters have about as much chemistry as boiled spinach.

Good

Enjoyed every bit of this story. It was great. Amusing, tense and really told the angst felt by the heroine.
