A riveting, compulsively readable, MOVING exploration THROUGH the angst ridden teen years of a group of misfits as they deal with isolation, depression, anxiety, & grief as they strive to fit in somewhere while grieving the loss of a close school mate to cancer.

Think 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' meets 'The Breakfast Club' meets 'Rock -n- Roll High School' & 'Heathers'.

A well-written debut novel from a very promising author!

This book is just fucking good. This is one of the best coming of age books I've ever read. This book just puts you through every emotion possible. The struggles of youth to adulthood. The insanity, the angst, the anger and rage, the rawness of pain and friendship. This is a book I think adults and kids can benefit from and enjoy. This book is just a emotional and thought provoking experience that will leave you pondering not only about the future lives of the characters in this book but also it'll just make you sit back and think about life in general. This is a top read for me this year period. I highly recommend this book its just awesome. Chase Will you rule man cuz not to much makes me emotional but this book did... So congratulations on that and thank you for writing this story.

I picked up Chase Will's Moving Through at Weekend of the Living Dead in Pittsburgh. That same night, I started reading the book in my hotel room and was instantly impressed. Of my leisure reads in 2022, this one is right at the top. Will has penned an astonishingly real and wholly captivating story. If you remember your teenage years, much of this material will feel familiar to you - the angst, hormonal madness, big emotions, bad decisions, confusion, urgency, complicated relationships, and so much more. This author is an excellent writer whose literary conveyances never leave you scratching your head and wondering what he meant. The pace is nice, the characters are well-developed, and the story pulls you in and keeps you there until the very end. I found myself looking forward to getting back to the story whenever I had spare time to read. Highly recommended!

"Moving Through" is one of those books that's hard to put down. I don't read often, however, this book I was able to burn through with ease. "Moving Through" allows the reader to see the perspective of someone who deems themself "crazy" and allows us to understand the thought process behind such a character in high impact / stressful scenarios. It's difficult to step into someone's shoes and truly understand how they may be feeling, however, this book made me understand every emotion that Trey went through during such chaotic and emotional events. Before reading the novel, I would have found it difficult to understand such a character as Trey and their ways of coping and moving through things, but now I am left with quite a new perspective, and I'm thankful for that. While I do not personally relate to the actions and thoughts of Trey, I know that there are people out there that will find this novel comforting and will provide them with that sense of "finally! someone gets it!".

Thank you, Chase Will, for writing such an interesting novel. I know it will do well, and I look forward to future projects of yours.

Poignant, sharp coming of age tale

The dialogue is relatable and funny, but the serious moments hit exactly as hard as they need to. It is a book where there are very few completely good/evil characters, but who you're rooting for is never really in question. A couple of lines of narration in particular had me howling with laughter, while the climax had me heart sunk deep into my guts. "Moving Through" is a rollercoaster of a ride that doesn't feel as long as it is, and is one that everyone can gain something from taking.

Believable characters navigating school after the loss of their mentor. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes “crazy”, but always real. Teens and adults can benefit from reading this remarkable book. When I finished the story I was left wondering about the life ahead of these people.

A book that perfectly outlines how it feels to be an outsider in high school. Dealings with bullies, friends and grief/loss/mental health awareness. I kept finding myself coming back to it even when sleep clawed at my body.

Heartwarming and tragic. Follow Trey as he navigates love, mental illness and high school in the wake of the loss of his mentor. Chase paints an emotional picture of the struggles of teens growing up in a small town. A breezy read full of passion and heart.

This book snuck up on me. I was expecting a pleasant, safe, tame little YA book, but what I got was something much deeper. A great coming of age story with laughs, tears, great characters and not a shred of formulaic cliche garbage. It deals with real life, friendship, loss, mental health... Some very adult themes, yet it still doesn't feel too mature for an adolescent reader. I absolutely loved it. Poignant, moving, powerful.

Too Long; Didn’t Read: This book can and will change you. This book will pull your inner darkness right out of you little by little and put it before you on display. This is what it looks like when someone puts their heart and soul to ink and paper. I recommend all hands on deck and multiple copies to read and discuss with friends. ‘If you’re looking for a tale to change your life, you’ve found it! [Mild and vague mentions of some subject matter below.]

The Review: Tissues. How much? Just one? No, no. The box? Maybe; you’re getting warmer. The whole pack? Now you’re getting there.

Now, if you’re anything like me, such as someone who really feels what you’re reading in place of the characters to the point where it’s almost real, this book is going to tear you to shreds. ‘In a good way; let me specify, but this book will dig up just about anything you had buried in you make you witness it all. Grief hidden in there somewhere? Now it’s in front of you. Maybe a bit of trauma you’ve hidden away somewhere? Yep; that’s also in front of you now. ‘And if you’re an empath of any sort? Woo, boy; you may need all hands on deck to help you through this one. Turn it into a holiday gift with you and your friends. Read it together. Talk about it, and most of all take care of each other because at least one of your bunch is surely gonna need it.

Twists and turns at every page flip. You think you’re ready for what’s next? Think again. You ready for that next scene coming up? Are you really, though? ‘If any book’s gonna remind you of that bond between you and your loved ones, and if you’re like me, somehow echo the thoughts you’ve experienced in the process of your own life events, it’s gonna be this one. Some parts can get so intense for me that they feel like exposure therapy in those aspects, so I cannot stress this enough to bring all hands on deck here, and be sure they grab their own copy to understand it all.

Summary Message Of Experience: My message to the author during my reading sums up my overall experiences.

“You’ve pulled me inside-out to reveal the darkest parts of me: everything I’ve buried in me deeper and deeper just to be okay, and every thought I’ve repeated but never quite gave attention to [perhaps with some things I never quite noticed at all as well]. You’ve put me in front of a mirror and pointed to me like an anatomy book page, telling me ‘This is your grief. This is your trauma, and your empathy that gave you the grief and trauma of others.’

“Your fingers gliding around the glass, explaining every insecurity and phobia and fear, with every frightening thought and vision and memories playing of anything you can pull out of me.

“You’ve pulled it all from me and dropped it into my lap, perhaps unsure what to do with it yourself, as we then stare at it. We stare at its horror.

“…‘And now I’m feeling it all at once. ;-;”

You will feel it, potentially all at once.

Subject Matter: Note that this contains some subject matter that may be heavy for many, such as various depictions of physical or psychological ab*se, implied and described, as well as of course lots of loss, the resulting depressing and anxious thoughts, other aspects of mental health, the overall high school experience in a very raw display, some horror elements and violence sprinkled throughout and many themes of that nature, as well as underaged smoking and drinking throughout. This is a very real portrayal of high school life for many, and I think that can help a lot of people with recognizing and putting words to their then-unspoken feelings.

Conclusion: This book changed me, but it changed me in positive ways. I’ve gone and reached out to family members I may have otherwise been too afraid to reach out to. I’ve reached out to other loved ones the same way. I’m much more honest with many in how I feel and have realized that what I feel isn’t a truly exclusive experience to me. It may just change you too.
