Wilder Hawk: Mountain Man: Beasts: A Mountain Man Adventure

Rate this book
The fifth book in a brand new Mountain Man adventure series from D.M. Haggard!

The Jicarilla tribe have returned to their northern New Mexico homeland, thanks to Wilder Hawk, but he believes a full Apache chief is better suited than he is to lead them. Devastated by the loss of their first child, Wilder and his wife, Olathe, embark on a wilderness journey in search of healing. Their trek through mountains, canyons, and deserts brings challenging encounters with beasts of all kinds—animal, human, and powerful forces of nature. Then tragedy strikes a second time, and Wilder must find a way to keep going. His wanderings take him into Utah cattle country, where he narrowly avoids a looming range war, and then to California and the Pacific Ocean…a beast he has faced before. A side trip to Mexico brings him up against another kind of beast, a gang of thieves that meets with rough justice. Changed by his experiences, Wilder finds his way home—but he’s a mountain man at heart, and the next adventure awaits.

D. M. Haggard, aka D. M. Horridge, was born in Texas, raised on cactus, dust, and a strong family. When I was very young, I would visit my uncle's farm in San Antonio and work side by side with my seven cousins baling hay, swimming in a round cow trough, and hunting rattlesnakes. I've hunted and fished all over the United States, and have worked like a trojan on my own ranch in Texas. I've written short stories and professional articles for a variety of marketing and professional magazines, but only recently started writing western adventure stories. I like learning about the real characters of western history and use them in a fictional way. I feel like I am preserving their memory and the heritage they left for us over time. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife of 55 years, two terrific children, and a million friends. I try to leave a message in every book that says to the reader, "we are all part of this world of ours and we need to work together to keep it from falling apart." My family is the most important part of my life. I have also been blessed with four fabulous grandchildren and two spouses of our children who have brought a wonderful depth to our family and extended family. One of my favorite subjects is the Texas Rangers, a group of tough, honorable, and law-abiding men and women. Only recently I have begun a series of children's books named "The Amazing Adventures of Two Boys." They represent many of the stories my father told to my brother and me as children. Always exciting, but not frightening, they give me great pleasure to write and publish on Amazon under my father's name, Don Horridge, and my name D. M. Horridge. All of the proceeds from these children's books are donated to children's ministries throughout the world. Thanks for listening.

Probably the most compelling story of this outstanding series, this far! I have read all of them!

Another five star masterpiece of heartwarming western adventures that will appease your innermost expectations, as Hawk goes above and beyond in this historical revelations of how I often perceived our old American western frontier was finally tamed! Certainly hope Mr. Haggard will bless us with a few more of Hawk's outstanding descriptive journeys!
As always, the compelling storylines of the Hawk series goes above and beyond in their commanding descriptiveness of each and every exciting episode! A very heartwarming, and definitely comforting, series of ongoing western adventures! Too, the Author's outstanding character selections could not have been any better portrayed throughout the entire series of ongoing excursions!
Certainly recommend this compassionately motivated story to everyone, but especially to you fellows, and ladies, western fanatics as I assure you to be completely entertained from beginning to end! You non-western enthusiasts will find yourselves unable to put this compelling western masterpiece aside until the final paragraph has been absorbed!!!😃

Wilder Hawk resigns as Chief and with Olath, headed to explore more of the west. Tragedy strikes and Wilder must make the rest of the journey alone. I've like all the Wilder Hawk books so far but this one, let's just say I was unhappy when the author killed off a character I liked, reason for the three stars.

They Journey

You follow Wilder Hawk as he travel s West to Ca then down to Mexico. He meets old friends of his late father plus a few others. I felt bring s Pres. Grant, they Hearst family was a little too much. It is an interesting tale and tied up his previous works.

Loved this book. Haggard does a superb job of making us aware that "Beasts" are not just four-legged things that stalk us and livestock. They can be two-legged predators as well. Lots of real history about many very bad folks in the West. I've read almost everyone of Haggard's books. Like C. J. Box, I can't wait for the next one to come out. Just saw a new book by Haggard. Think it is called Hawkeye and has a big story line about the Yukon. Looking forward to getting that on on February 2!
