My Redemption

Rate this book
Two different vampires meet in the most unusual place and fall in love. When they’re finally able to be together, love may not be enough.

Does Mariza deserve to be imprisoned?
If you asked her three years ago, she’d have said no.
But these days, she’s considering a different answer.

It doesn’t help she has a handsome new cellmate.

Rhyland didn’t ask to be a vampire, and he most certainly didn’t ask to be experimented on. And there’s also the blonde vampire locked up with him. Something about her draws him in.

Can the two of them earn their redemption? Not only from others but each other?

My Redemption is the sixth book in The Van Wilden Chronicles. It can be read as a standalone, but it’s more enriching if you’ve read the previous books in the series.

Jessica Gleave writes love stories set in fantasy worlds.
In other words, she’s a genre masher. Jessica likes building fantastical make-believe worlds where her main characters fall in love.
When she’s not busy writing her latest novels, she’s a busy mum of two. She lives with them and her husband along the east coast of northern New South Wales in Australia.
Jessica loves nothing more than a glass of bubbly, eating chocolates, and reading a good book. Preferably all together.

Following the events of Over Their Ashes, Mariza has spent the last three years imprisoned in the dungeons of the Council of Order Headquarters. Initially, she was resentful of her situation but her time in solitude has made her contemplate her life and evaluate the choices she made that led her here.

Mariza’s curiosity is piqued by the arrival of two fellow prisoners. Ryland and Geralt are human turned vampires who were experimented on by a mad scientist and used to further his insane crusade. They were captured by the Order after Rhyland abducted a heavily pregnant Eshe and it’s only by a miracle that baby Omahlia survived. The Order plans to recruit them on the condition they are successfully rehabilitated.

Ryland didn’t ask to be a vampire, nor did he ask to be experimented on. He feels remorse over the part he played in Eshe’s abduction and is trying to come to terms with what he has become. As he and Mariza find themselves drawn to each other, can they earn their redemption?

My Redemption is the eagerly awaited sixth instalment of the Van Wilden Chronicles. I had been highly anticipating Mariza’s return ever since we learned that she had not died at the hands of Alastor but had been secretly imprisoned by the Council on Oscar’s orders.

Throughout the previous books, we were given tantalising tidbits which suggested a softening on Mariza’s part towards her father. It was her confrontation with Vivienne and Morgana though that I wanted to see unfold and the author didn’t disappoint. The scene where a vulnerable Mariza turns up on Vivienne’s doorstep was emotional and I found myself genuinely welling up.

Mariza’s strength and growth over the course of the series has made for compelling reading. She started out as a selfish, vindictive narcissistic individual but eventually accepts her mistakes and is able to makes peace with herself and others.

I particularly liked that this instalment was more emotionally charged and character-driven than the previous instalments as it gave us a chance to see the Van Wilden family dynamics come together. Only one member is missing now to make the Van Wilden family whole and I'm looking forward to their return in the next instalment.

Ideal for fans of urban fantasy, vampires, dhampirs, hunters, covens and secret societies.

What a great addition to this series. This book shows us Mariza, in prison, contemplating just where her life and choices have taken her. With the help of her new prison mate a Doctor she learns to not only love herself but more importantly to forgive herself. Can her family do the same or is she destined to live the rest of her life alone with family and friends. I enjoyed this story, as well as the unexpected plot twists that come from nowhere.

After spending the last three years imprisoned, I’m pleased to say that Mariza has finally returned to the spotlight!
She is such an interesting character to follow, with the most impressive character arc throughout the Van Wilden Chronicles series. There’s never a dull moment. I felt all the emotions.
In My Redemption we are introduced to Ryland and Geralt who are human turned vampires with tortured pasts.
They’ve spent years being experimented on by a mad scientist who was driven by his own sick agenda.
Ryland and Mariza are both physically and emotionally damaged, and filled with many regrets. Hence, they find solace in each other, and work towards earning their redemption.
This was such an amazing read. I’ve absolutely loved reading this whole series and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of paranormal and urban fantasy.
All of the characters are so interesting and well rounded. They really suck you in and keep you wanting more.
Thanks heaps, Jessica Gleave.

This series just keeps getting better and better. Mariza finds herself in prison, examining her life choices, and with a new sexy prison mate. This book was terrific, and not just the story, but the writing and story telling had me turning pages, unable to put it down. The characters are easy to like, complex, and have such a strength to them that you can’t help falling into their world. I highly recommend you read it for yourself, you’ll be happy you did.

I was always wondering through this series if Mariza would always be a villain. Going to prison was what Mariza needed. Finding someone to share a lifetime with does help mend some deep wounds Mariza had been carrying and thankfully her family were understanding of her bitterness.

This series gets better and I’m really looking forward to Doc’s book, she’s one mysterious vampire.
There is one thing I really love and it’s Jessica’s unique names for her characters 😍
