Such a good book for anyone who considers themselves a worry-wart or over-thinker haha. Lots of good takeaways and makes me understand the concept of ‘worry’ in much more depth.

Highly recommend if you’re dealing with stress! Did this as a Bible study with a friend this semester and just finished the last chapter! What a blessing to be able to go through this book with a friend in Christ. I know I will continue to read this for years to come.

A good, quick read on worry and how to overcome it. Louie Giglio gives practical advice on how to focus on the truth instead of trying to control the unknown. He also provides in depth discussion questions at the end of each chapter that would be good for personal study or group discussion. Highly recommend for those who struggle with worry!

"When we experience and internalize the perfect love of God, there is no room for fear. It's not a joint partnership or a mixed bag. Perfect love drives out fear. And once fear is gone, we no longer have the pressing need for control. Instead, we can be free to fully surrender and submit to the perfect love of God because we trust that that love is not only His best offering, it's what's best for us!"

I worry a lot, and this book was a good tool for refocusing and paying more attention to my worry spirals.

If you've ever read anything or listened to a sermon on worry, there's not much new being said in this book, but Giglio does provide a short and concise, faith-focused overview of worry and how to tackle it. Despite the short length, Giglio does cover a lot of points and scripture, and because of the short length, I can see myself picking this up again to reread whenever I start to catch myself in a worry spiral.

Louie Giglio is an approachable and personable author, who does a good job of writing concise and highly applicable books. This particular book, "Winning the War on Worry" is only 128 pages long, which makes it a quick and easy read. Combining his laidback writing style with Scripture and psychological studies, Giglio encourages his readers to fight back against worry, anxiety, and depression. He encourages his readers not to believe the following popular lies: 1) Something really bad is going to happen. 2) The more you worry about it, the better your odds of avoiding it. 3) I have no choice -- I'm a born worrier. 4) I can control the outcome by worrying.

This was an encouraging little book, and would be helpful to those who struggle with worrying. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

I recently reviewed Louie Giglio’s book “Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table,” so I was excited to read his new book on the topic of worry called “Winning the War on Worry." Besides having complementary colors of black and yellow, the topics of these two books go well together. In the former book, Louie talked about God preparing a table before our enemies in this spiritual battle we face. He took that imagery to show how we can keep that space a table for two and not give the enemy a seat. Worry is a tactic of our Enemy in spiritual warfare, which is a way he'll try to get that seat next to us and whisper lies to us. But Louie said Christians don't have to listen and have weapons they can wield.
Louie compared worry to barnacles on the bottom of a boat that slow down and corrode a vessel. He dissected worry as if it were an earthworm in science class and cut it through to the heart: Control. We think if we worry then we have some control over our circumstances, he said, but Jesus said in verses 25-26 of Luke 12 at the beginning of a whole section on “the cure for anxiety” (at least in the HCSB):
25 Can any of you add a cubit to his height by worrying? 26 If then you’re not able to do even a little thing, why worry about the rest?
We can’t add heights, minutes to our day, or get in a time machine and go back and fix things. Many of us succumb to “what if” thinking instead of staying present and working just on what God has given us to do today. We can prepare, but we shouldn’t be picking up challenges until it is necessary because every day has its own set of trials. (Matthew 6:34) Plus, Louie said studies have shown about 91 percent of what we spend time worrying about never happens. I’m wasting my time worrying when instead I could surrender that burden to Jesus in prayer and trust Him.
Now here's what Louie isn’t saying: Christians won't be miraculously shielded from negative circumstances. We live in a fallen world. But we can have assurance in God’s victory over worry and all its "cousins" (Louie's word) like anxiety and depression. I can “invite God into [my] worry, and when I do that I'll experience freedom from that burden. In this way, Louie said we abide in Jesus, the vine. I am a branch that’s dependent on His strength and life-giving nutrients every day.
While I'm surrendering worry to Jesus, I also need to stand strong in the battle, don my spiritual armor, and change my thought life. Louie said to focus on Jesus and place Him continually in front of me, think of what I’m grateful for, and praise God. I can shift my mental landscape each day by questioning thoughts as they come into the old noggin. "Does this thought fit into what the Bible says I should dwell on in Phil. 4:8?:
“…whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
If the thoughts don’t line up, buh-bye thought.
Louie's most relatable example in this book was his 2 a.m. anxiety wake-up calls. He would wake in a panic and try to go back to sleep. He had the realization that God never sleeps. He’s awake and alert always. His doesn’t get distracted or doze off. His attention isn’t divided. Just like Louie, I can sleep in full confidence that He watches over me and He’s in control. (Psalm 121:3-4, Psalm 127:1-2, Psalm 139:4.) Why hadn’t I realized that before? I love that.
Louie himself has suffered the effects of anxiety and depression, so these are time-tested tools in this book that he uses. While Christians will face worry and similar foes this side of Heaven, Jesus conquered it all. He has the victory and so can we.
Louie Giglio is one of my most favorite writers because his books are much like hearing a sermon series with personal stories and examples. “Winning the War on Worry” has easy to read chapters with a prayer and questions at the end. This is a wonderful resource for a Bible study. It's a book I will return to many times, I am sure. I plan to gift both books to family. Thank you, Netgalley and Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to read Louis Giglio’s latest book.

We spend a significant portion of our life worrying

It comes down to the fact that worry is a choice

With God, there is no “if,” because He “is.”

You must realize God is greater. If you believe this, you will replace worry with faith.

At the heart of worry is doubt, and at the heart of doubt is the devil.

Worry, is not just a bad habit, it is the enemy’s tactic. The strategy around doubt that will tear you to pieces.

Your best bet for the worries of tomorrow is to lean into what God has promised.

You may be genetically prone to worry, but the moment you were spiritually reborn, those patterns were broken. Your new family has sovereign peace.

You cannot control the outcomes by worrying. Worry makes you think that you’re in the driver’s seat, when in reality it locks you in the trunk.

Worry tells you that you are in charge but faith reminds you that God is in charge.

God does not need rest or a break, so you can let go and trust Him.

Saying not to worry may seem an impossible task, but God’s advice is to take your concerns to Him in prayer (Philippians 4:6).

We suffer more in our imagination than we do in reality.

How can we change the fitful nights for faith-filled rest? First, we must fix our gaze upon the Heavenly Father (Ps. 8-9).

God is awake, alert, and able, therefore you do not need to stay awake worrying. Knowing God will be up all night will allow you to close your eyes and sleep.

When we look to God’s Word, gratefulness is at the core of winning the war over worry (Philippians 4:6).

Worry and worship cannot be in the same mouth together; one will displace the other.

Gratefulness is the torpedo that sinks worry.

In the book Winning the War on Worry, author Louie Giglio, writes about exactly what the title says – worry. He also is honest about his struggles with worry in his own personal life. This is not something only you deal with. Giglio writes: “You are not the only person to step onto this battlefield and look across the way toward the enemy of worry and anxiety. The Enemy loves to isolate us and make our struggles seem disproportionate to those around us. But worry isn’t an uncommon tactic. In fact, it’s one of the Enemy’s go-to weapons. There is some level of comfort in knowing that worry strikes people from every walk of life and background.”
Giglio also attacks the premise of casual acceptance of worry. He writes: “One of the reasons worry tends to linger in so many of our lives is because of our casual acceptance of the status quo. Worry far too often blends into our background as just another thing that "happens" to us. Like being hungry. Or feeling sleepy. Worry worms its way into our psyches as just something else we’re bound or destined to feel.”
Giglio wants all believers to attack worry. He writes: “Let’s start by demolishing the house at 1274 Worry Avenue, that mindset of worry that has gripped you in fear for as long as you can remember. This house has to come down! And the wrecking ball that turns this house of lies into a pile of rubble is the power of the name of Jesus.”
This was a great quick read book that focused on the topic and gave practical solutions. I would highly recommend this book. I received a copy of this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I sincerely enjoyed this practical, easy read on anxiety. What he could have said in a sentence, Giglio expounded on the realities that cause anxiety and leaned on Biblical truths to identify remedies. He emphasized that this is not a one time fix, but a daily battle in a war that’s already won. We simply must keep the focus. And it’s not simple to do. He validated my feelings and showed clear truths to choose the right thoughts. I used this book as a personal Bible study. This is a great companion book to Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at the Table.

Stop believing the lies

A large portion of our worry is lies from the enemy that seeks to distances from the TRUTH that our saviour promised us. Anytime the enemy finds a way for us to be blind to our blessings he is going to continue to hit us at our weakest points. Worrying excessively puts a gap between us and what Jesus did for us on the cross. Give your worries over to God and know that he knew what you were going to ask and the solution before it came out of your mouth. Be Blessed and know that you are Blessed.

Quite a well done read! Biblically-based and powerful, I highly recommend all Christians (and hopefully non-faith persons as well) read this, to bring a healthy perspective on worry, anxiety and fear!

Although you may hear or read some of what is in this book in other places, I have to say few have written in this topic in such a profound, concise, yet approachable manner. Please read this!

Rev. Giglio masterfully covers how to win the war on worry. He shows time and again how the Bible teaches us that God is always there and in control. He further gives helpful tips on how we can do our part to stop worry.
I see this book as a companion to his book Don't Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table. Which is more in-depth about conquering bad thoughts including worry.
I highly recommend this book especially if you are a major worrier.

A short but powerful read. If you consider yourself someone who worries a lot-- or, even if you are not, this book shows you how to release control and give up worry. Not something that will happen overnight, but with practice of practical skills, you will be able to hand over your worries once and for all. I love the way Giglio writes-- so understandable and down to earth with scripture references it is so relatable.

This was a great book with some very helpful, spiritual based exercises you can apply during episodes of worry.

It offers a lot of preemptive advice to eliminate worry before it takes hold, which I loved.

The beginning was very strong, and although it slowed a bit in the middle for me, it ended strong.

Honestly, this is probably the best and most encouraging book I've come across on faith and anxiety. It doesn't hold platitudes or overly simplified views on mental health. It is helpful, encouraging and offers specific ideas and strategies to combat worry. I found it incredibly thought-provoking and hopeful. Great book!

This faith based book helped target the root of worry and provided guidance to tackle those thoughts. Worrying about the future / things beyond our control is a waste of time! God already has a plan. He does not worry. It’s important to give our fears to Him and invite Him into our hearts. Only then can we have peace.

This books talks about how we want to control every outcome and part of our life. This plays in to us doing everything in our power to make the life we want/desire happen. Ultimately this leads to a lot of worry and anxiety, but God does not want you to hide that, he invited you to tell him about that worry and wants it to make you stronger. Great read, it is very short.

I listened to this book and liked it so much I listened to it again a few days later. I took some notes and captured some quotes that I want to remember and reflect upon. I did not realize how much I worry and this book gave me some great tools to help understand how great God is and how much I can depend upon Him.

I would highly recommend this book to any Christ-follower.

Truly 3.5⭐️ - I found this book to be encouraging and practical, but also a little too simplistic. I’m not sure that’s the word I’m looking for, but it’s how I felt reading it. That’s not to say his points weren’t true, though.

A must read for believers who want to grow in their faith and find steps to overcoming worry! Giglio provides tools for you to implement right away. This book has truly encouraged and helped me change my mindset and approach to when worry comes creeping into my mind. It’s a short easy read but filled with great wisdom!

Giglio always uses his words wisely. He always chooses God’s words to write those words. And he encourages my soul when he does so.

As a fighter against anxiety, this small book is a great tool to win the way on worry.

Excellent Teaching on Worry!

Louie does an incredible job providing practical and spiritual steps for those plagued with worry. I got a lot out of this book. I highly recommend it and will be reading it again.
