This was very cute! Astrid is a unicorn and Stella is a flying squirrel. They are best friends who love having adventures together. And snacks. And dance parties. They also love helping others by doing some great problem-solving. They have a robot friend also whose name is Bobo. First chapter - blast off! Only - their rocket blows up. But that's OK - they can build a new one! Second is a visit to Caturn which has been taken over by an evil kitty! Oh no! Working together, our friends figure out a solution. And then there is the planet Bloop and a whale who does not like to get water in their eyes. Just look at the cute little swim trunks on our whale friend, Dry Guy! Again - our innovative friends work together to solve Dry Guy's problem. Thank you to the publisher for a digital ARC of the book. This would be a great follow-up for kids who are graduating from Narwhal and Jelly to longer books.
What an absolute winner of a book! Hilarious. Full of adventure. Fun characters and kingdoms. Perfect for fans of the Dogman, Catkid or Captain Underpants series. This full colour comic book style is accessible for early readers as young as 7 or 8 years. Astrid and Stella are brilliant together - a new dynamic duo. Who doesn't love a magical unicorn or an intergalactic flying squirrel?! This duo love nothing more than snack attacks and dancing and with the help of their robot Bobo, they fly around in their FriendShip to aid PlaNuts in need like Caturn. Very witty puns galore make this a comical and enjoyable read for mum and child! Publication 20th September 2022 with book 2 available foe preorder for March 2023. I just finished reading Astrid and Stella! This is a great book! Let me tell you why. First, it is amazing jorney with Astrid the unicorn and Stella the squirrel. They go to different places throughout the book to help different animals with there ronot Bobo. Second, if you like fantisy then you should read this book. I love this book because it dhows how well these two creaters get along and help animals together. I can tell that Stella and Astrid are best friends because they have a blast together, they laugh together, and they even get a little anoyed at each other. If you like what I said about this book then you should read it. These are the reasons why I gave this book five out of five stars.
Astrid and Stella go on many adventures in the universe. Each adventure take place at a new locations and during their adventures, Astrid and Stella make new friends and experience many new things with their reliable robot friend, Bobo. The shenanigans Astrid, Stella and their new friend get into make for a very comically journey though the cosmos.
I love the Moyle sisters. There picture books and board books are OUT OF THIS WORLD! I was very excited to receive this copy of their children's graphic novel and... it left me wanting more, sadly. The illustrations and color palette were on point and very Moyle sisters. That was not what was lacking for me. The story was bleh for me and left something to be desired in the way of a plot. I understand this is for a younger audience, I do. I have and do, however, enjoy other children's graphic novels and there is usually more meat to the plot and story than was presented here. I understand new independent readers need light and airy reads, but that does not mean they need to lack in substance, which is the case with The Cosmic Adventures of Astrid and Stella. If each chapter could have been developed into a series, there would have been more to beef up each mini-adventure and turn it into a full adventure as well as making it an easy series and adding the substance that readers need to develop into stronger and more cognizant readers.
Was it cute? Yes. Were the pictures on point? YES! Is this a book I will recommend our library to purchase? Probably, some kiddos need fluff reads to become and develop into stronger readers. Was a I hoping to give this 5 stars? Yes. Will I? No.
I don’t ever remember seeing this book before, but my library got books 2 & 3 today with our new books, so I had to make sure we had book 1. Not surprisingly, we did, so then I had to look at it and make sure it didn’t need a label and thought maybe I should just read it? So that’s what I did.
This book, is so fun for so many different reasons, I loved how silly both Astrid and Stella are throughout this book. I appreciated their random joke tangents (mainly bc while I didn’t love them, I would have thought it was so smart and fun and ~random~ in like 5th/6th grade)
All that to say, while I do think a lot of the jokes in this book weren’t geared towards a 30 something adult, that’s okay, because this book isn’t targeted at a 30 something adult.
When everything is said and done, I thought this book was cute, quick, and fun. Did I love the fart jokes? Lol no but I accepted them bc I know kids will go bananas for them.
Unicorns...check! Rainbows....check! Cute flying squirrel... check! Adorable characters... check! Great graphic novel for ALL AGES.... DOUBLE check!!
What an adorable graphic novel featuring the cosmic adventures of Astrid the unicorn and Stella the flying squirrel. This was fun on so many levels from the colorful and whimsical illustrations to the adventurous story line, right to the side-splitting way that Astrid and Stella communicate with one another. And I didn't even mention their totally amazing robot, Bobo. This is a tale of friendship, fun with a dash of social skills mixed in for good measure. I found myself laughing out loud more than a few times.
Don't wait pick up your copy today, you will be glad you did :)
This was silly, fun, and colorful! This easy graphic novel is perfect for fans of funny, silly books. The art is fun, colorful, and full of details. The text is big and simple to read. My one complaint is that easy readers, like this, are meant for beginning readers so the words should be sight words or good vocabulary to learn. This book had some made up words and puns, which is fine, but not great for those just starting to read independently. They may need some help pronouncing these made up words as well as understanding the puns behind them. Overall a really fun read! (Read a digital ARC via Netgalley.)
Way too ADHD for my taste. This graphic novel is fun and colorful and full of puns and non-sequiturs. Unfortunately in order to have a plot you do kind of need *some* sequiturs. I'll definitely recommend it to kids, but I'll probably go to something like Sir Ladybug or The Flower Garden first.
I'm obviously not the intended reader for this but my kids love these types of books so I had to check it out. So this is mostly going to be about the things they liked about it and not so much about me. It has everything young kids enjoy animals, adventure, bright colors, teamwork and funny jokes. All 3 of my kids enjoyed this, the youngest one the most but the older two did too (Their ratings were 5, 5, and 3). It was definitely cute. Perfect for fans of Blue, Barry, and Pancakes, Catwad, Norma & Belly, Bird & Squirrel and Agent Moose.
‘The Cosmic Adventures of Astrid and Stella’ by Sabrina Moyle with illustrations by Eunice Moyle is a graphic novel for young readers about best friends in space.
Astrid and Stella go on an adventure to the planets Caturn and Bloop. Along the way, they meet new friends and stop an evil tyrant. They also solve some problems and use catchy and helpful phrases like ‘We can do hard things!”
This is a fun and positive story about friendship, getting things done and having fun. The art is great and there are three stories in this volume.
This is a great early intro to graphic novels. It is colorful and fun. The characters are unique but I think that there could have been more effort to develop them. The plot was very cute and readers will like that each chapter is essentially a different story. There is a level of problem-solving in each chapter along with some good messages about friendship and bullying. A good read for the unicorn adventure fans.
First off- SO glad this one is a series! You definitely fall in love with Astrid and Stella, and want MORE of them! I love their motto- "progress not perfection"- and use it now with my own kids. A colourful story, filled with fun adventures. I love that they work through friendship struggles in easy to understand, kid-friendly ways.
The colours, sparkle, and characters make this one especially appealing! It's most popular with our grade 2 and 3 classes.
A children's graphic novel. Astrid and Stella and their robot Bobo are adventurers on the Friend Ship. This book contains three stories. In the opening story, their first trip into space has complications. Astrid and Stella goof off while Bobo fixes everything. Then they travel to Caturn to investigate why all the cats are asleep. Then they travel to the beach planet Bloop, where they help some animals have fun in the water. The art is too busy for my taste. My kids were entertained.
This book is such a good novel to read and I really injoyed reading this book! This book is is so funny and the stories has only two main charicters but is still such a great book! The two main charicters are both animals one is a unicorn named astrid and the other is a flying squirle witches name is stella! This book is sooooooo funny and that is just how I like it! Anyone who thinks that this book sounds like a good book to read or finds this book intereting I recomend this book to you!I also want to say that i told emily about htis book and she loved it so I recomend this book to you.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a really cute little graphic novel for early readers. It will be extremely popular with this set for a few reasons. 1. There are cats. 2. There is flatulence humor. 3. The main characters are a unicorn and a flying squirrel. 4. Adventures in space!
Adorable graphic novel geared towards younger students…I loved the wordplay and humor, and I know my students will, too! I am hoping this one is the first in a series, as it reminds me of books like “The Bad Guys”, which my students devour! I also like the positive messages throughout the story and the encouragement of teamwork and friendship.
Probably fine for kids looking to branch out from Dog Man (or who are growing up on meme-filled short form content). Very colorful/cutesy art and full of fun puns. Maybe even a lesson or two hidden inside.
That said, it would not be my first choice of children's graphic novels to recommend. It's all over the place and rather high energy but not in ways that benefit the reading.
Cute little graphic novel for younger readers. There was a few words that were in there that made me question the choice of diction, but ultimately it was a very cute and fun fast-paced read. I would include this in my elementary library for the reluctant readers.
Another silly little graphic novel with an unlikely duo. A unicorn and a flying squirrel embark on a space adventure with their trusty robot companion. An easy and quick graphic novel read for early readers.
Three funny stories of two friends - Astrid and Stella - and their adventures in space. I appreciated the puns throughout this book and the bright, rainbow colors. It's a quick, easy read for elementary schoolers with a ton of humor.
High silliness in this book enhanced by lots of play on words and puns. It's very colorful and there is a lot going on. I think younger elementary students will love it!
