Nathan Hale is the New York Times best-selling author/illustrator of the Hazardous Tales series, as well as many picture books including Yellowbelly and Plum go to School, the Twelve Bots of Christmas and The Devil You Know.

He is the illustrator of the Eisner-nominated graphic novel Rapunzel's Revenge and its sequel, Calamity Jack. He also illustrated Frankenstein: A Monstrous Parody, The Dinosaurs' Night Before Christmas, Animal House and many others.

(He is not the author of Extinction Earth or the other apocalyptic titles listed. That's a different Nathan Hale. If someone with "librarian" status would disambiguate those titles for me, I'd appreciate it.)

Nathan Hale takes a side step from his Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales series to serve up a how-to book with writing and drawing prompts for aspiring cartoonists. For those of us who aren't very creative, he still manages to tuck in interesting little historical tidbits and a plethora of jokes.

tone matches Hale's Hazardous Tales - this drawing instruction book will be a hit with fans of the series, I think. Difficulty of putting it in the library is addressed: can't do the "assignments"! but kids are savvy and will figure that out if they want to follow along. A fun and instructional read.
rating: G+ sassy and a little irreverent, no profanity or sex
recommend: fans of the graphic novel series, kids interested in drawing graphic novels, ages 10 and up

Nathan Hale has created a graphic novel (sort of) that teaches young people (primarily) how to draw their own history comics. It is written in the same sassy tone as the Hazardous Tales series. Students/young people who want to learn to draw will enjoy making their own history comic following the instructions and using the spaces provided. They can draw the executioner, some of the presidents, horses, gas masks, etc.
*This is NOT intended to be added to a library collection! It is meant to be drawn in.

So this one isn't really a book you read. I kind of expected that but it is a book that you need to buy not get from the library so it wasn't as good as the other books. I recommend the other books for probably ages 13 and up.

Very good book on creating your own comics

Toughest challenge will take the reader at least 50 years to accomplish
