Love finds a way into their hearts while kingdoms crumble one after the other… Desolation has spread its icy claws over the nine kingdoms. Olong has fallen, though not without a fight. Now, obscure whispers and rumors have it that the South is next, and the kingdoms are in a state of high alert. Skilled in the ways of vicious, long wars and–even worse–brief times of treacherous peace, Archie is doing his best to keep the troops in line and the lairds from making rush decisions they are going to regret. Dougal had it all in the palm of his hand. Victory and absolute power were his, so close he could almost finally taste them…until miscalculations and a single wrong step cost him everything he had bled to attain. With his last and only hope lying in his secret allies, Dougal fears his trust may have been misplaced as they have a reputation of being as helpful as they are lethal… Wandering apart for too long, Evander finds purpose in protecting Maisie when he joins her in the efforts to reclaim Olong. Maisie finds her feelings for him blooming most unexpectedly while she tries to keep her head in the efforts to restore her homeland. Love was not in her immediate plans, but how can she deny her heart when destiny throws Evander on her path in every turn along the way? As a nation of fighters, Olong is licking its wounds after the brutal battle, preparing for the next one while the North shows its true intentions. But once the real threat comes crashing down on their land when they least expected it, they realize that this time the force of their foes may be well beyond their power…
Don’t miss the fourth book in this series from an exciting new voice in Scottish Medieval Romance.

Oh wow, this was a really strong sequel to the series! The war between the north and the other kingdoms is about to begin with an attack on the kingdom of Olong, the land of Maisie. Evander has gone after her to keep her safe. They manage to reclaim their land, but the end is not yet in them.
Magnus is with his father to fortify other kingdoms.

You feel the tension between the lines. You're on the edge of your seat when Dougal loses his position. It is waiting for the army of the North. For Maisie and her father you hope they don't come, for Dougal and his cronies that could turn the tide.
What happens when the soldiers arrive at the gate of Olong.

Very exciting, very intense. Waiting for the sequel is all that's left

Highly recommended

War

I read the first 4 books in two days. They are short and can easily be read in a day, but I was busy. The plot draws you in and you'll want to know more!
The love interests of Maisie are a nice diversion and I find myself routing for one in particular.
I enjoyed reading this series, but feel that it should be contained in one book. The errors are abundant. The author uses various spellings for one of the main characters frequently, and mixes up characters several times. Because of this, I lost some of my enjoyment.

4.5*’s. Details of the impending war continue to trickle in. I was a bit taken back by the sheer violence of this cult. I’m also still not sure exactly what their tactics were hoping to achieve? I’m finding the dynamics between Maisie, Magnus and Evander to be quite interesting. An unexpected twist at the end opens the door for possible changes in the next novel!

war and Peace book 4

This ended so sadly. I’m looking forward to reading Book 5. Violet Melville did her readers a good service with ending each volume with a glossary. Thank you.
