Another gem by the author Peng Lai Ke, the same author who has written Pihanjin, one of my favourites.
A tale of fated lovers with the female MC reborn. Our heroine has lived a life of woes even during her previous life and aims to improve her current life by settling in early with her husband of previous life. Unfortunately fate sets her up with the idle King of Qin, who loathes power and scheming woman. Fret not, he is in for a rude awakening with the scheming granddaughter of the Grand Tutor Pu. The twists planned were so well written. I enjoyed the angst and cunning plans of the heroine, despite being with her she adjusts so quickly in her life, has a great foresight. The ML also learns with her and falls in line with her plans.
I MTLed the whole book and it was worth it, read in two days with barely any sleep.

10/4/25 TBH I think this might be the sweetest PLK book I've read? Also >.> low bar but honestly while I was reading it I was like "at least he doesn't rape her." What's super annoying about this author - she's so good and she gets you engaged and your emotions involved, but BITCH CAN YOU STOP WRITING ENDLESS MISUNDERSTANDINGS PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FUCKING HAVE PEOPLE COMMUNICATE. And here they're so close - SO CLOSE - to getting it. But then nope. Like JFC they're fucking toxic. And had I not read this author before honestly (granted I've been in a grumpy mood but) I would've DNF'd it so many times.
The guy is A BRAT. Like I get why but ... STOP TAKING IT OUT ON THE INNOCENT FL. He just had this [WRONG] preconceived notion of her and stuck with it despite the rest. Granted she WAS single minded. But she points out his hypocrisy when he's fine with what his cousin does but when she had done the same thing she was a fame/power/money chasing grubber.
And the author made her suffer SO MUCH. SO MUCH. At least the extras gave her a nice sweet life.
LOL you might find it hard to believe that ... yes once you get past the ugh it IS really sweet. And this would probably be my most likely PLK re-read. I hated how FL was labeled/painted as this like petty shameless character when COUNTLESS guys want to be emperors and that's like a whole lauded thing. She just wanted to be empress to protect herself and her family!
I guess CX was SML? I liked him. And honestly I didn't dislike Shen Yang either. 😅 in fiction I can forgive a lot if the guy is good to FL... clearly. He at least was nicer to and treated her better than ML for a good chunk of time in their minimal interactions.
So many awesome secondary characters too. I wanted everything to work out perfectly but I get why it didn't and accept it.
