Den of Psychos: Masquerade of Sin

Rate this book
I woke up to the chilling sound of gunshots.
A soured deal, a raid of vicious men, and a blow to my head that contributed to my psychosis.

My name is Eloise Genevieve, but the rest of the world calls me crazy.
Can I really blame them?

After all, I speak to the monsters who have known me since that Devil’s Raid. Sweet, sinful men, who are just as royal, powerful, and merciless as I wish to be. I’m the only one who can see them, and that’s the problem.
I want more than to just see.

The older I get, the stronger these urges become.
Their company isn’t enough for me anymore.
I yearn to touch them, hold them, kiss them, and make love to them.

They tease me every night, with a blindfold across my face to keep their monstrous appearances secret, but I know better.
I know everything about them.

The Masquerade of Sin is finally here, and this will be their chance to claim what’s always been truly theirs.
I may have enemies waiting to strike, but that’s the least of my concerns.

For they have never played a game with a psychotic monster, and I have all the right cards to win.
Welcome to the Devil’s Playground!

I was hoping for more.

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💜🩷💙
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗
World building: 🌏🌍🌎
Character development: ☹️😄😍
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Eloise Genevieve - she is seven years old and wakes to the sound of gunshots. She was frightened because she knew her safe spot had been breached. She hears the mansion guards talking about protecting her and keeping her safe, though they sound anxious. She didn’t know where her parents were, she didn’t think anyone would have the guts to go against her wealthy, powerful family that ruled the biggest drug network in the Boston underground, so they could be dead already. She has been trained all her life, so she hid behind a magic wall and prepared to fight against any foe.

The Story: While Eloise was hiding, she hears a bunch of men come in looking for her. They said they needed her to blackmail her family. She saw the masked men in her room, while she was hidden. When one of them finds her after she unleashes on him, he tells her that she must leave “because they know she is destined for them.” She was chosen by a den of psychos. He was angry because her family and their friends have killed his entire family, and he wants to take her out in retaliation. Eloise was shot and lost consciousness.

Years later, everyone thinks she is crazy because she sees monsters that nobody else can see. She runs drugs for her family to the top nightspots in the city. She is fearless and deadly in her own right, though her monsters often do the deeds for her. She just wants to have her monsters be real and love her like she loves them. Though she doesn’t know that they are real, and they are the den of monsters that are destined to be bonded to her, and they do love Eloise. They are members of a secret society that run the world. Claude, Yu, Kai and Venom meet Eloise in a dream world, but it is nearly time they come into her world.

I think I may have had my fill for a while of psycho’s as the anti-heroes. Sometimes it doesn’t seem like psychosis as much as a lifestyle choice and I guess I kind of like my psychos as truly mentally challenged rather than just crazy for the sake of making people fear you. The story wasn’t bad, but I got a bit bored with it and had hoped for something more exciting.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Gregory Salinas and Kiera Stevens. Gregory Salinas has a nice deep voice that I like, though he isn’t one of my favorite male narrators. Kiera Stevens has a youthful sounding voice which fits for Eloise, and she is very expressive and natural. She always does a terrific job.

Disjointed, unromantic and confusing

This book was all over the place. The author mentioned dens and monsters (also threw us headfirst into a gunfight kill zone over a kid talking about those dens and monsters without giving us any lead up) but never really planned or showed or told us what they were. She mentioned maidens but never explained what they were. She never developed any of the characters except for the two “monsters” that are having relations with each other (oh sure she tried to explain they started because Genevieve was too young when they first found her) but then their relationship grew and it’s clear she developed it so they’re in love (without showing that there is any place for Genevieve in their relationship)

And here’s my thing. It’s happening way too often!!! There is NOTHING (seriously let me stress again and again) and let me say again and again NOTHING again wrong at all with gay or bisexual or pansexual relationships but this particular genre in a REVERSE HAREM a genre that originated overseas as a flip on the regular harem/concubine sh*t that had been going on for so long- It gives us a STRONG female who surrounds herself with men that WORSHIP HER! Would do anything for her! When the men love each other more than the female character it’s no longer a true RH. Again if they have relationships TOGETHER like threesomes foursomes or more ok, limbs tangle! Love can happen sure. And if the female likes to watch her men, all right. But setting up a scenario where the men love each other MORE than their girl makes the RH NOT a RH, plus is just puts the girl on the outside discarded watching as she gets crumbs of affection. It also seems like cheating when the men have relations without the FMC or without at least asking her if she’s ok with it first.

I used to love m/m in my RH until more and more authors relegated the female main character into the background and gave the men couples more attention than the female. Authors take more time these days cultivating the m/m aspects than the FULL RH aspect which should/would include the FMC. It’s a shame we’ve reached a point where we’re calling these books RH when they’re obviously not.

Love the books but hate how they are released, going to wait till BOTH series are finished…

Ok so to start off I’m not talking about how long it takes for the next book to come out. I completely understand how each writer takes however long they need to release a good book.
My issue is having two separate series involving the same events from another characters perspective only for the second series to tell the events slower then the first series did when it originally came out. It creates this staggered FAST, sloooow, story telling when you go from the first series to the second that frustrates me to no end.

Avery also did this with her “Willows Forbidden Pack” and “Pack of Misfits” series. Willows story was the first series and just finished (sort of), while her friend Aurelia’s series that covers the same events is still ongoing and way behind. Do you get new info? yes, but it’s confusing when the newest book released in one series is behind in the narrative timeline.

This book should have matched “Den of Monsters” beat for beat. You don’t have to rehash everything that happened in the other book but it’s end should line up with the original book. It shouldn’t be a cliffhanger half way through this book if we already know where the main character ends up. It doesn’t add suspense just frustration. If this book came out before the other book or if the other book ended on a mid masquerade cliffhanger then it wouldn’t matter. I don’t mind cliffhangers if done well. But I already know where she eventually ends up thanks to “Den of Monsters” so any tension is gone, replaced by annoyance for giving the villain more unnecessary page time and flaccid power.

Do yourself a favor and wait for both series to finish, which could be awhile, otherwise you’ll just end up frustrated.

In all honesty, this book is a bit too confusing for the first in a series/duet. It is similar to Den of monsters (which i havent read for context) but it felt like this book needed more world building and explanations to be more enjoyable. If i needed to read den of monsters to understand the world and plot points, it needed to be stated somewhere in the book description and not be considered its own series

Wait til the series is completed

I had high hopes for this book, but like the previous one it leaves you on a cliffhanger but I feel like this one shouldn't the only thing this has going for it is that it explains the 1st book and why it was so confusing. I loved the idea of this book and the one before den of devils and even though I knew there were multiple books which I won't normally do til the set is complete I still began reading these books but now I'm just regretting it this book was more about den of devils that the main character Eloise just fall short and is so whiney it's just annoying and if you read den of devils then you read this book bc this was a repeat of that book just written with Eloise as the supposed main character this book seem more about esme then Eloise even though she is trying to complete an alliance you got no further in the storyline. Yes something were explained but still a let down.

That Ending Almost Ended My Kindles Life...

What the???😮
It can't end like that!!! No no no!!!!😭
Was that who I thought it was at the end who has Eloise!?!?
If so then **its gonna hit the fan when her monsters find her!!!
This was so freaking good!!! Avery sure knows how to write a dark and monstrous world that I still want to be a part of despite its darkness!!!
I really really need the next book!!! That ending seriously almost had me throwing my Kindle and ending its poor life!! 😱😭
Luckily I remembered in time that if I threw it I couldn't read anymore until I got a new one...
I'm looking on the bright side until the next book comes out!!😂
Anyways this is another must read from the epic author herself!!!😍❤😍

Den of Psychos

Welcome back to the Masquerade Ball! The super twisty and sexy world of our favorite monsters and Eloise Genevieve the Heir of the vast Genevieve Empire.

But being invited to the Masquerade of Sin isn’t truly a blessing, it is a way for Dens to bid on Maidens and purchase them for the power they can imbue their Den with.

Eloise feels like she has a not so secret mission to help her BFF Esme to get through the entire ball and be claimed by her Den, meanwhile forgetting that she also has another bigger role to play in her own life.

Join Eloise in this exciting and sexy journey as she works to help everyone cross the finish line, this is one book you don’t want to miss.

Note to self:

Obviously not regular Claude but Psycho Claude, who’s possessive as fuck. And I don’t even want to envision what you would have done because some days you’re a silent killer that no one can figure out and other days you enjoy taunting me with all the sinister things you’ll do to my enemies to turn me on so we can fuck in front of them before you torture them for hours which is so fucking hot that it’s already making me horny and I really have to work on my rambling tangents because sometimes I feel like a bore you out of your min—”

“If this is payback because I destroyed your Lamborghini last night by racing through an alleyway that barely fit the wide fucker and straight off a bridge and into the Charles River, I don’t carry a single ounce of regret because

i really enjoyed this book. i liked the story, the world building was interesting and the FMC was my favorite FMC. She can hold her own, is witty, and crazy.

I do have a couple of issues. Which is why this is only 4 stars. This was sold to me as the first of a Duet. (which by the way i cant find any accurate information on the second one) however i later learned that this should be a tandem read with den of monsters which is a standalone. they happen consecutively.

we have our FMC which is crazier then a box of rocks and her 4? men. I'm a little confused because there wasn't too much distinction between them. we really only got face time with the gargoyle. and it ended kind of abruptly. this book was released 2 years ago and since it was left on a cliffhanger i at least expected to have a release date but couldn't find that any where.

i know it seem like i didn't like the book but that was not the case i was highly entertained through out the entire thing. i was just left wanting more. also i need to go read Den of Monsters because that should clear up some of my issues just not all.

i am eagerly waiting to hear ANYTHING about the second book. let me know if you hear anything too.

Holy Crap!

Holy crap, I did not expect that brutal cliffhanger! Well now, I think I might cry waiting for the next book to come out. It was fascinating to see our main character and her point of view with the conversations and interactions she had with Esmeralda. The story was great and her men are wonderful, but I am looking forward to see them actually being together, since so far most of them have only interacted through the other world. My favorite part of this book is the very beginning when she was a little girl, what a spitfire she was! Brava to that intelligent little girl. I honestly can't wait to see what happens next.

Den of Psychos is not to be confused with Den of Monsters. This book is about Miss Eloise Genevieve. It gives us a different view of things that did happen in Den of Monsters in addition to some new insight in the behind the scenes things that we did not know about in the other series. I know Eloise's main concern is her best friend Esme but I just wish it was little more focused on Eloise. Sometimes I felt like she wasn't the main character of her own book. All in all I still loved the book and finished it in one sitting. The ending gutted me. I had to reread it a few times then process it. Almost like my whole system had to reboot. I can't wait to see where the next book picks up!

Den of Psychos: Masquerade of Sin by Avery Song is Eloise's story. If you enjoyed reading Esmerelda's story in Den of Monsters, then you will enjoy reading this book from Eloise's perspective.

I know I have been itching to read Eloise and her den of monster's story since I read Den of Monsters. Avery did not disappoint either. She once again drew me into Eloise's story from the very first page and did not let me go until the very last word, and that cliffhanger Avery left us with is going to play in my mind for a few days at least.

I honestly might love Eloise and her den more than I do Esmerelda and her den, but I'll save my final thoughts on that until the end of book 2.

Loved it!

This was a great add on to this world and I freaking just love Eloise. She is my hero! Lol I love how you normalize mental health which has such a bad rep usually. I personally have had to battle with depression and my son also has and it's not fun but people minimize the actual effects mental health does to a person suffering from it and I just love how you add this into your books! Thank you so much! Must definitely read any book by this author! She is amazing!

Den of Psychos was Awesome

I really enjoyed this book but if you didn’t read Den of Monsters about her bestie (Esme,) you maybe a little lost. I was happy to get know her psychos men better and to see a new side of Claude instead of the over protective brother but as and over protective lover instead. The ending gave me a shock I was not waiting for and hit me like, what the heck happen 🫢. I was so shock and surprised and now I have to wait for book two to come out.

Wow! This book was amazing. I loved Den of Monsters and this book gives us a different perspective and new characters. I love how this world is dark and gritty and while all have badness some of the best to have on your side are the Monsters and Psychos. I cant wait to see what happens next with Eloise and her men in the 2nd book of the duet. This book does have a big cliffhanger that shocked the mess out of me.

Great story! Really enjoyed this as it runs parallel to her Den of Monsters book. This one is about Esmeralda's bestie Eloise and her turn at the Masquerade of Sin. I won't give the whole book away but it is great to see the story from Eloise's side after reading Esme's book and having more insight into her series as well, thanks to Eloise knowing more than Esme. Definitely cannot wait for part 2 of both books to be released!

Love her books

First let me say I love how this book is a part of a series that feeds off of other books, but can be read separately and you still understand what’s going on. Secondly, Eloise by far is one of my favorite characters yet written by Avery! This book sucks you into a world beyond your wildest dreams and keeps you wanting more! That Twist ending left me in tears. Can’t wait for the next book.

Didn't finish. Got 10% of the way through and just couldn't hand the run on sentences anymore. Plus, with the child at the beginning being 7 years old, I just gotta say, no way. I have kids who have been 7 years old. I was also once a 7 year old. The communication and thought processes are just nowhere near the same as the girl in the book. Also, yuck to hinting at attraction between a grown man and a 7 year old. No, just no.

OMG! I thought the Den of Monsters was crazy but the Psychos are crazier. This book explains so much behind Eloise ans Esme and their monsters. I love how Eloise gives up so much for her brstie and yet has a group of sexy monsters to support her. I couldn't put it down! The ending.... I just want so much more! I absolutely loved it.

We have another great book from Avery. Eloise had an accident that caused her to see monsters that no one else can. These monsters make her crave them. With enemies out to get her she will do everything to survive. This book has a strong FMC with men that are just as crazy as she is and support her. Need more.

Den of Psychos is another thrilling and exciting read! Ever since an incident when she was a child, Eloise has been labeled a bit crazy because she talks to “imaginary” men that only she can talk to. We also learn more about Eloise and her friend Esme. This book is full of danger, twists and intrigue and lots of spice. This is a definite must read and can’t wait to see what happens next!

That was not how I expected that to end

I feel like it was a retelling of Den of Monsters but from Eloise’s POV. I think what I thought was going to be a quick recap became a whole retelling. It gave great insight to the ending of Den of Monsters but I wanted more. I’m super excited for the next book!

I wanted to get to know Eloise better ever since i read den of mosters awhile ago-and was not disappointed! She was so much more than what was shown in that book and seeing the story from her pov was awesome. I can’t wait to read the next book, the end of this one is giving me anxiety-i need to know the next part!!
Highly recommend, and a perfect read in these darker months.

This book is amazing, I literally couldn't put it down. What's really good about it is you see this book from a different perspective from the den of monsters. The character depth as always is incredible. I was never much into the world of monsters but they'd book have their claws sunk deep. I can't wait for the next installment of monster madness.

OMG!! (Spoilers)

I am so glad that we got to read Eloise's story. I loved Esme's story and I loved how you incorporated the plot around Esmaralda into the story. I like how Antoinette isn't actually evil and is trying to make sure Lucas isn't going to hurt Esme.

I can't wait for Eloise's monsters to save her from this madman who has imprisoned her.
