The Felicity Theory

Rate this book
He’s grumpy… She’s sunshine… And they’re about to take a road trip across Australia.

Successful, handsome, and a little bit OCD, finance guru Oliver Blake has the perfect life. Until his fiancée leaves him on their wedding day, and his carefully constructed world crumbles around him.

Still trying to piece his life together six months later, the last thing Oliver needs at his brother’s wedding is a bubbly British bridesmaid plunging his life into more chaos.

Felicity Green doesn’t believe in perfect. She’s had enough disappointments to prove dreams don’t come true. She has a theory— life is what you make it, and she’s determined to make her trip to Australia one big adventure.

Somehow, Oliver and Felicity find themselves in a brightly painted kombi van traveling across Australia. As they share confined sleeping arrangements and nights under the stars, it’s not long before the chemistry between them is sizzling off the charts.

En route to Sydney, it appears Oliver and Felicity may have stumbled on something almost perfect after all. Until they meet a hurdle that just might be too big for either of them to overcome.

Will they find a way through this, or has their love met the end of a long dusty road?

For fans of Christina Lauren and Tessa Bailey comes this steamy, heart-warming fourth book in The Laws of Love series.

Davina Stone

Davina Stone writes romances about flawed but lovable characters who tend to get it horribly wrong before they finally get it right. They also kiss a fair bit on the way to happily ever after. She counts herself as an Anglo-Aussie, having lived exactly half her life in both countries.

When not writing she spends her time chasing kangaroos off her veggie patch, dodging snakes and staring down the odd crocodile. But despite her wild adventures, in her heart she still believes that a nice cup of tea will fix most problems and that true love conquers all.

Davina has been published in five Romance Writers of Australia short story anthologies. Her first novel, The Alice Equation, the first in the Laws of Love series is published in January 2021.

This is a Cute Romance, and this is the fourth book in the Laws of Love series. I have read and review the first two books in this series, and I do feel you can read this book as a standalone without any problems. I did also enjoy the other books I have read from this series. I found the characters in this book to be very developed and fun to get to know. I love that this book as England's English and Australia's English slang in it. I think because of that it was so funny at times, and I could not get enough of these characters and how they talked. I found myself laughing through out this book. I would love to see Australia's outback, and this book is a road trip though Australia's outback. I found the romance to be award, but it worked. I loved this book so much. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Feathers and Stone Publishing) or author (Davina Stone) via Booksirens, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Thought this was a cute book and found Felicity and Oliver to be really cute. They both needed to find what they were looking for and they simply found it in each other.

update on August 25, 2022: I was meant to write a full review but completely forgot. Because of that, I don't exactly have a proper review. Just know, this was a cute romance and that I enjoyed it. I think that if you're looking for something quick and easy, The Felicity Theory was definitely something you can easily read in one day if you're committed. Just ignore that I took two months to read this. Slumps you know? 🤷🏻‍♀️🫠

I've combined my very favourite tropes in The Felicity Theory; grumpy meets sunshine, forced proximity, shared bed and the sweetest opposites attract couple you could ever meet. And though yes, this is a rom/com, it's also a story about facing the things that scare you and finding your soulmate. So if you love a travel romance, why not touch down in Australia for the journey between quirky English girl Felicity and Mr Perfect pants, Oliver Blake. Be prepared for a bumpy ride and plenty of sizzling heat along the way (And I'm not talking about the Australian sun, here)!

This was a lovely story. All it made me want to do was visit Australia and also have a braai (barbaque). A good piece of chicken thigh, slathered in marinade and potato and coleslaw salad. So, suffice to say I'll be having braai this weekend.

I enjoyed this story quite a bit. The characters were likable, the story entertaining. I loved the whole travelling across country, that was fun to read. I'd love to do that some day, travel across country. I've never even left Cape Town, nevermind the country. It's kind of embarrassing.

I love a story where the main couple sort change each other for the better. It was lovely to watch how Oliver stepped out of his shell and embraced Felicity's spontaneity, but at the same time, she never made him feel terrible for being 'anal'. Unlike Leonie, who left him for that very reason. This story spoke true to the idea that opposites certainly do attract, all it requires is the right person.

Such a job well done, this story. It was entertaining, definitely painted a portrait of Australia's picturesque scenery and the steam, so unexpected but so satisfying. It's always the buttoned up to the neck guys who are the freaks in the sheets.

If you enjoy grumpy/sunshine tropes, this one is a definite go to.

Thank you Book Sirens for this ARC

Felicity and Oliver are opposites: he's straight-laced and analytical, while she's spontaneous and colorful. But the chemistry between them is undeniable, and Oliver can't resist Felicity's invitation to join her on a road trip across the continent, just the two of them in a camper van. One thing leads to another, but will their relationship go the distance, or will they run out of fuel before they reach true love?

This book has everything. It's funny yet emotional; sweet and steamy by turns. The Australian road trip provides unusual scenery for the middle third of the story. But the novel's true strength is its characters: Felicity and Oliver are both interesting and relatable, and their interactions are thoroughly believable. I could see how they fit together, and their growing attachment - and their arguments - felt authentic. This drew me further into the novel, and although the ending was a bit treacly I was invested enough in the couple to lap it up.

Let me tell you, every time I’m in a reading slump one of Davina Stone’s books find me and pulls me out of that slump.
As always in Stone’s books, The Felicity Theory deals with important topics such as (TW!!) grief, cancer, OCD (in a way). I think Felicity and Oliver were such realistic characters. They both had their own demons from the past they deal with, but they really empowered each other.

I ADORE this book. This book is hilarious, heartwarming, romantic, sweet, spicy, and features so many tropes that I love. Oliver and Felicity fully embody the grumpy vs sunshiney characters. Their banter, their chemistry, their slow burn to spice is done expertly in this novel.
Above all though, their individual growth is never sacrificed for the building relationship they have. They learn about themselves and they grow for themselves. What's so lovely is that they complement each other and help each other grow, but they don't do it for each other, but because of each other and that is so healthy and lovely.
This is truly an amazing heartfelt, heartwarming romcom. I can't wait for more!
Truly a five star romcom if I've ever read one!

There’s so much that I loved about this book - the locations (I followed along on Google Maps, with alot of envy), the characters and their chemistry, the Shaggin Wagon…I could go on and on. The pull between Felicity and Oliver was magnetic and beautifully created.

Now it’s time to start planning that trip to Australia. 😉

Not having read any other books in the Laws of Love by Davina Stone, the Felicity Theory was a fabulous surprise!
It was just the thing to provide a quick respite from my busy life – a little holiday, if you will, with no strings attached!
Throw in two opposite personalities in Olive and Felicity, a rollicking road trip across Australia – just my cup of tea – with the usual satisfying chemistry.
All good, until they get to Sydney …
And that’s all I’m going to say. Grab a copy for yourself and see!

I LOVED this story soooooo much, I didn't want to say goodbye to Felicity and Oliver. Davina Stone has delivered another masterpiece with this hilarious, steamy, beautiful, heart-wrenching story. I don't know how the author packs so much emotion into one book, but from the start I was swept up in the journey - literally, and emotionally - these characters went on. I'm already looking forward to rereading it!

This book is what you need if you want an easy romance read with the addition of some spice!! I love the depths of both the main characters and how they feel connected through certain traumas. I like that the romance had more depth and I love the little bits of humour here and there to lighten up the story. As an Australian my self, I love the Aussie rep in this and seeing the country through the eyes off felicity! Overall, this was a really good, relaxing read that everyone will enjoy💗 Thank you Davina for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review :)

4.5 stars

1st read the book
2nd listened to the audiobook

I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with Felicity and Oliver, I am a sucker for road trip books, especially when they cover places I myself have done the same journey, unfortunately, I did mine alone whereas Felicity and Oliver were able to experience it together.

These characters were complete opposites, Oliver the guy who has to have everything planned out (that didn't work out so well for him) and Felicity who tries to live in the moment, enjoying and making the most out of life. Both of their personalities have been brought about by tragedy when they were younger and they both dealt with it in different ways.

I loved that they both brought something out of each other that neither realised they were missing and I really enjoyed seeing them let down their walls and slowly let the other in if only for the time being, neither willing to look towards the future.

The 'Shagging Wagon' was a character all of its own and provided for some dramas along the way which tested them both. As they travel from Perth to Sydney they unwind and Oliver starts to lose his inhibitions and let go a bit.

Still getting over his breakup from six months before on the day of his wedding, Felicity is the medicine he didn't realise he needed. His ex is a nasty piece of work, one of those women who think only of themselves and what life and people can do for them, and her interactions with both Oliver and Felicity later in the story reiterated my feelings about her.

It was nice to see Alice and Aaron from book #1 The Alice Equation finally get married and see them both completely in love with each other still. it was also nice to get a glimpse of the other two couples and see that they are still together. I loved the update on Oliver and Felicity at the end of the book, it tied it all up nicely.

I highly recommend The Felicity Theory for a fun and happy romantic trip.

I listened to the audiobook on my second time round and I loved it just as much as when I read it. The two narrators did a fabulous job bringing Felicity and Oliver to life, I thoroughly enjoyed every hour spent with these characters.

4.5 stars! Oliver and Felicity just bring out the best, and the funniest in each other. And if you are not sure if funniest is a word, welcome to this book where I had to look up so many awesome Aussie words. For example “screamingly hot spunk” does not mean what you might think it means!

This grumpy/sunshine book had a great balance of emotion and laughter with two characters who had been though some really tough times and could not be more opposite in how they were dealing with it.

Felicity is a bit over the top in look and manner and Oliver is so tightly wound you worry he’s forgotten how to smile. Their roadtrip is the stuff of both nightmares and fantasies. I loved watching them fall in love as they abandoned their comfort zones. And man are there some spicy scenes - and creative ones!

Great story and fun to revisit some of my favorite characters from the previous books. You do not want to miss out on this love story!

I received an advance copy of this book from the author and these are my honest opinions.

Fun and flirty.
Seriously steamy.
British slang.
Aussie colloquialisms.
One pink hat.
One almighty Shaggin’ Wagon.
Two people set off on an adventure.

Davina Stone has done it again! The fourth book in the Laws Of Love series is so stinkin’ good! We first met Oliver way back at the start, in The Alice Equation, and I must say- I wasn’t a fan. He seemed pompous and rigid. Hot, but pompous and rigid. But this book opened up a whole other side to Oliver, as he discovered himself when spending time with the fun-loving and utterly more-ish Felicity.

I laughed out loud, I aww’d at the tender moments, I eagerly kept reading for more of those steamy bedroom (or, Shaggin’ Wagon) scenes. This story was the perfect mix of a fun filled adventure that turns romantic, and a wonderful reminder to not take life too seriously.

I think- No, no. I KNOW Felicity and Oliver’s story is now my new second favourite in this series (after Alice & Aaron, of course).

Now go buy that lava lamp, mix up those coloured paper clips. Have fun! And read this series!

And one again, as always, thank you SO much Davina for allowing me the joy of reading an ARC of your magnificent writing!

A beautifully well written romance read that is sure to please. Main characters are Felicity and Oliver. Felicity is a carefree spirited woman who takes life and all it has as it comes. where Oliver is more uptight and organized needing a plan to follow. Somehow when these two meet they are inexplicably drawn to each other and as they embark on a journey neither one realizes how they will help heal the broken parts in one another and find an all consuming love. A beautiful journey of healing and love.

I really enjoyed this wonderful story between Felicity and Oliver! We were introduced to Oliver in book 1 of the Laws of Love season as lead character Aaron's brother - to be honest I thought he was a bit of a douche from reading the Alice Equation so I'm glad Davina wrote his own story so we could see what he was really like. And Felicity was absolutely lovely. A cross country road trip between two strangers.. what will happen? This was one of my favourites in this series and I can't wait to read more 🙂

Thank you for the ARC of this book - this review is my own opinions

There is something so refreshing about reading a book that makes you laugh out loud, makes you forget everything around you and takes you to a trip to one of the world's most beautiful country. 💚💙
I loved Felicity and Oliver's book way too much. Loved how Oliver shreds his old life and habits slowly and gradually as he starts falling in love with Felicity. And how Felicity understands life and Oliver so much and not to forget her whacky sense of humour.
Immensely enjoyed reading every word !
Highly recommended to everyone who loves a good romcom with grumpy/sunshine trope AND it's based in Australia 🦘🌏

This was my first read from this author. I enjoyed the story, however the reason I gave it four stars is because it was written in the third person point of view. Sorry, but this is a huge deal breaker for me. Other than that I will be reading more from this author in the future.

I absolutely loved this book from the very first paragraph!! All the way through it, I felt for Felicity. She was so much fun despite everything she'd been through. And Oliver... Oh my, Oliver!! He was just adorable. His transformation was so beautiful and his realisation of his flaws was perfect.
I now want to read the other books and find out about the other characters and their stories!

What a fantastic read. I loved it from start to finish. Having travelled those roads, Davina captured the essence of their beauty and shortcomings perfectly. As for Felicity and Oliver? I loved how they interacted, healed each other and grew within themselves all in a funny and expertly written way. Well done Davina. It's a winner for me.

Another great addition to the Laws of Love series

I love a good road trip. But what I love even more is seeing a character that you think has it all together, unwind and become a better version of themselves. Especially when the author turns things on their head by making that character the hero not the heroine.
With the aid of a pink hat and a comby van with a morally ambiguous slogan, Oliver goes on a road trip not only in real life but also of the mind, to find the love of his life and himself.
Davina Stone is a master at touching on mental health issues that, given the right circumstances, could affect us all, topping it off with the grand payoff of a HEA.
And (no spoilers) but I love how Davina dealt with the love triangle trope- my least favorite trope. Both Oliver and Felicity's reactions to the other woman and her diatribe had me first pumping the air and shouting 'Yes!'
I've enjoyed all the books in this series, but this one will stick in my mind as one of my favs.

Overall Rating: 4.5/5 stars
Genre: Contemporary romance
Tropes: grumpy/sunshine, close proximity, one bedroom trope, traveling together, disability representation
Trigger Warnings: depression, cheating cancer, arachnophobia and infertility
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Review: Now THIS is what I wanted, what I NEEDED! This has all my favourite tropes and it was done SO well! I love the dynamic between the two characters. They were both unproblematic and the miscommunication was understandable. This was light, fluffy and made me feel warm inside. Honestly one of my favourite books of the year.

Oliver is an organized, rational, sensible man. His fiancée thought he was perfect. Well, actually too perfect, so she broke up with him on their wedding day.
Six months later, Oliver's brother is getting married. When one of the bridesmaids, Felicity, arrives in Perth for her cousin's wedding, the groom asks Oliver to pick her up.
Felicity is a cheerful, optimistic, original, and adventurous woman. She has been through a lot, so she tries to make the most of every situation and to take things as they come.
That's why Felicity wants to go on a road trip after the wedding, and that is exactly what Oliver needs to heal. As they discover wonderful beaches and the magic of the outback, the chemistry between them keeps growing, but neither of them wants to get hurt again.

What I liked: I really enjoyed how the character of Felicity was built, especially how she overcame her past. The book was fun to read and I liked the characters. The chemistry between Felicity and Oliver was believable, and the descriptions of Australia were the perfect setting. I definitely want to read more books by this author.

What I disliked: I think Oliver's personality wasn't as defined as it would be expected for a man of his age, which was a little bit weird. Also, the obstacle to their relationship that was revealed in the last chapters of the book was kind of predictable from the beginning. However, these are just details.

(I want to thank BookSirens and the author for this ARC, which I received in exchange for an honest review.)

Oliver Blake's life is perfect. Until it very abruptly isn't. Dumped by his fiancée on their wedding day, his picture-perfect life falls apart, and now, six months later, he can't seem to piece any of it back together. Despite being a successful finance guru, he's frozen. He can't write a word of the book he's been contracted to produce, and he can't find a way to fit himself back into the world. But then Felicity Green crash-lands on planet Oliver.

Felicity has had enough knocks for one life and now has a theory - life is what you make of it. Her relentless positivity is jarring to Oliver but he can't seem to keep her at arms length. Now he's agreed to travel across Australia with her in a camper van named 'The Shaggin' Wagon' and suddenly everything's upside down and inside out, including his heart.

Davina Stone is one of my all time favourite authors. Her books are steamy but also breath-takingly, heart-achingly sweet. Oliver and Felicity both have deep wounds, some you can see and some you can't. The way Davina describes both of them is brilliant. Oliver's OCD in particular is incredibly portrayed, and makes you understand and empathise with how he behaves. The Felicity Theory is just a fabulous book. It's intelligent, deft, funny and altogether amazing. If you love a grumpy/sunshine road trip of a romcom then you need this book in your life!

This was a fun road trip with exciting characters. Felicity has travelled from England to Australia for her cousin's wedding and plans to drive across Australia. But she didn't plan to take Oliver with her. Oliver is heartbroken after his fiance left him and needs to let loose. Concerned about Felicity driving days across the continent and needing to get back to Sydney himself, he decides to go with her.

I love a holiday romance and road trips are always fun. Nor do they go to plan, which is exactly what happened to Oliver and Felicity. But they sure had fun while things heated up in their close proximity. Felicity is a mild fish-out-of-water as a British girl in Australia, especially shown by almost tearing up at the dead kangaroos on the side of the highway.

As always though, while Davina writes fun and romantic stories, both characters are experiencing deep-seeded emotional issues. Because while Felicity's theory is to live life to it's fullest, she soon realises that this won't keep her from forgetting things she may have lost in life...or wanting them.

This is another fantastic addition to what is proving to be a fantastic series. I can't wait for what comes next!

Davina Stone has done it again! Another brilliant contemporary romance showcasing the beauty of Australia in a way that only a local Author can 🇦🇺 I mean, who can resist a road tripping romance across Australia between a red haired free spirit and a man who needs his life to stay perfecty in order?

Each book in this series makes a point of including characters who are or have previously struggled with serious topics. In this story, MMC Oliver is grieving the loss of his mother when he was a teenager and more recently, his ex-fiancee leaving him the day of their wedding. His struggles with OCD are also documented and how these are connected to his emotions. For FMC Felicity, her past battle with bone cancer and the effect this has had not only on her body, but her mental health is explored. She's an open disability rep and the challenges she faced throughout the book were discussed in such a powerful way.

I really loved this story and particularly enjoyed the character of Felicity. He brush with death has given her such a beautiful perspective on life and its something I'll be taking with me. I've loved this series and will be straight on to Evie's book!
