Better than the first book, this had more angst and drama and was better paced. Hats off to Nava for never loosing her determination where Ark was considered.
I loved the direction the story took. It was unexpected and executed very well. I loved Devon so much in this book. It’s really difficult to make a villain in to a positive character but in this book it was done well. I just hope he stays positive. There is still so many things to resolve and looking forward to it.
—not standalone (why is every romantasy trilogy or series😩) —soulmates —amnesia, badass heroine. —intrigue, court politics, unknown danger. —KU, safe and recommended.
I really enjoyed this second book in Abbey’s The Curse of the Crow series. It starts off with a big surprise (unless you read the blurb/synopsis 😂) and pulls you in right away.
I love the magic system in this series. It’s so cool and unique. In this book we learn more about the MMC’s background and about his magic. He is a winged shadow daddy with broody, tortured hero vibes and I’m all for that 🥵.
There is delicious tension and spice in this one but also lots of heartache and struggle. One thing that really frustrated me about this book is the lack of communication between the characters. It drives me crazy when the characters can just say the truth to solve some problems and they… don’t 🙃.
With that said, I loved the character development (especially with one side character) and the story overall. I am really looking forward to reading the final book in the series to see how it all ends.
I recommend this series if you enjoy: ✨unique magic system ✨mystery and prophecy ✨memory loss/regaining memories ✨soul mates ✨she saves him
I think I loved this book even more than the first one! The story moved along at the perfect pace, never did I feel bored or like the story was dragging or going too fast. Nava is such a spunky badass and I love her! And props for making me actually like Devon! This whole world is so well constructed and the descriptive language is perfect, Abbey’s writing is beautiful and imaginative, and makes me so excited to read whatever she puts out! This story made me laugh, made me want to rip my hair out, yell at the author (which I kinda did), and cheer for my favorite characters. Can’t wait for book three!
Title: The Curse of a Kingdom Author: Abbey Fox Publication date: March 22, 2022 Series: The Wicked Kingdom (#2)
Summary: HER SOULMATE IS IN DANGER.

Review: I am so obsessed with their world. I love Nava and Arks bond. I will definitely be reading the first two books when the third book comes out in the future. Abbey Fox absolutely doesn't disappoint. So many unexpected twists and turns. Always learning something else and thinking you have it all figured out just to find out you were wrong. I'm hooked for life. Living for Nava's personal growth.
Wow! After the slow burn of The Curse of the Crow, Abbey Fox jumps right in with this second book in the series. Ark is abducted, Nava has to get to him quick or the soulmate bond wrecks more havoc, and the demons are making Ari's life a little crazy. Nava has to think fast and trust the one person she shouldn't to quickly get to Ark..Devon Black.
Nava has grown up quite a bit in this second installment. Several months after the first book, she settled into mated life with Ark in the Northern village with her brother and their friends. But when Ark is taken in the middle of the night, she soon realizes those in the village don't have her back as much as she thought they might and she left to fight for Ark on her own and having to think quickly and also keep in mind what this means for Ari. But the one thing you can see right away is the need to defend what she loves is even stronger with Nava now. She's not afraid of her magic and will use it to defend herself and those she loves. She fights when she needs to and stands up to those that stand in her way.
Ark wasn't the strong, silent hero from the first book. We found out all kinds of things about Ark and not all of his actions make him as likable as he was in the first book. But there is a reason and as it all unfolds, we understand just what Ark gave up ten years ago when the soulmate bond happened with Nava.
The ending to this book leaves me wanting. Wanting 2023 to get her a bit faster so we can get the final book in the series. Prophecies have a way of coming true and I think Nava met the "sickly" person referenced in it. I can't wait!
This is the second book in the upper new adult romantasy series The Wicked Kingdom. This is the story of a young woman who goes in search of her soulmate, who was abducted from their world. Tropes include fated mates, slowburn, a winged MMC and memory loss. There is some spice but it’s minimal and not done in great detail.
The Lovely: I loved the main characters and how they deal with what happened to the MMC’s memories. Have no doubt, their struggles are heartbreaking, especially for the FMC. I really felt for her, and the MMC.
The Mundane: While this book was definitely less predictable than book one, I don’t feel like, looking back, a lot actually happened in this book. It was very relationship driven and there’s not really much progress made on the Beekeeper/Demons issue.
Rating: 4/5 Stars 2/5 Flames
Recommendation: Overall, I enjoyed the characters and their relationship the most. Book three is due to be released in early April 2024 and I’m dying to find out the mysteries unravel. If you like new adult romantasy with interesting (and mysterious) characters, and a not-so-easy relationship, I think you would like this book.
The Curse of a Kingdom is the second book in The Wicked Kingdom series and the continuation of Nava and Ark’s story, and as a sequel it didn’t lose its zest. Abbey Fox does an excellent job with world building, transporting the readers to a place filled with action, adventure, and steamy moments that keeps you hooked the entire time.
Book 2 starts right after Arkimedes is kidnapped in Book 1, “The Curse of the Crow”. Nava doesn’t waste her time and search for a way to bring her soulmate back, even if it means making a pact with the enemy, Devon. Together they chase after Ark, finding him with The Dark Ones, his own people, but Ark is now Orion, and he lost eleven years of memories. It’s then the twists and secrets start, but another side of Ark is revealed to Nava, and she starts to see the real Ark and how much of his dreams he gave for her.
Nava’s character developed so much throughout the stories, from not knowing who she really was to discovering her true self, and how powerful she became. The reader has the delight to follow Nava’s transformation as she struggles when she finds out about her past, dealing with her poor self-confidence while learning about her magic, her fight against the Crows, and devotion to her soulmate and her role as a beekeeper. She turns into a beautiful and strong woman, fighting against the entire world to keep her soulmate by her side.
Arkimedes/Orion is this taciturn, silent person, a man of few words, and sometimes he believes his soul is as dark as his past, but he is also loving and considerate, and he discovered he’s fit to the throne, leading his people and doing the right thing by them, mostly when he understands his father is not what he seems to be.
Nava and Ark make a perfect couple, and their moments together are full of magic and beauty, leaving the readers swooning. Their fight for their happy ending is heartwarming, full of struggles and adventure, and the ending left me dumbfounded. I’d never expected that outcome, and boy! I’m more than ready for The Curse 3.
Would you want to make your soulmate fall in love with you a second time? Arkimedes has no recollection of Nava despite the soulmate bond still being firmly in place. His memories are gone and with them all the work they had put into their relationship has vanished. This time, Nava knows they are bound but Arkimedes doesn't understand his draw to this strange human.
I found the book a little slow at first just because of the parallel to the first one. Since I had recently finished the first I truly did not want to read a repeat in male form. However, things picked up and I was once again pulled into the story and could not put it down. Nava and Arkimedes are definitely my favorite couple and I love how they find their ways back to each other. But Devon was also starting to grow on me. I was sad we didn't see more of Ari this book but I also appreciate that he would not have fit in super well.
This book does an excellent job and showing both perspectives and it is fun to flip back and forth this time between Arkimedes and Nava! We also get a much needed peek into Ark's background in the most inventive way possible. The author does a fantastic job of showing both sides of the man between the two books. And if anything, it made me love him more!
Most sequel books fall flat and don't live up to the expectation. The Curse of a Kingdom is not one of them! The story is intriguing with the added elements and characters. The idea of making your soulmate remember and fall back in love with you is interesting. And the ending ...
Make sure to read The Curse of The Crow and then grab this one when it releases. Cheers and happy reading!!
The book is still above average compared to many I’ve read, but I was definitely feeling the second-installment fatigue coming through in parts, and it ends in a cliffhanger after a confrontation that is more unsatisfying than the first book.
The tables have turned; with the MMC’s memories having been stolen from him, now it is FMC who knows she’s his soulmate and MMC who is being kept in the dark, afraid of what his reaction will be. He is a different person, too, more focused, vengeful and solitary even than the hermit she met in the lonely cabin in the woods. Solitary in that he trusts no one, that is, not that he doesn’t seem to fit in as a prince of the realm. It suits him, actually, and isn’t that surprising that he is born to such immense power given the impressive things we saw from him in the last book.
I think it’s interesting that the MMC and FMC have seemingly been apart for months (time slip) and the MMC’s father alludes to the ten years he was gone as though it was ten for both of them. Combined with the dearth of magic throughout the entire kingdom and the fact that the king has outlived the death of a soulmate all these years and it seems to be hinting that the king is either doing something behind the scenes to preserve his life, maybe resulting in the magic drain in the kingdom, or all is not as it seems with the queen being dead, and/or the time slip and return of magic is due to the MMC’s presence (the king is not truly the king?) but idk if those are plot holes or questions to be answered in book 3. We never get a full accounting of the fate of the MMC’s mother despite that being his main motivation this season. 🤷🏻♀️
Summing up: sexual tension/spice not as hot this time around, I’m blaming it on the MMC POV chapters being limited in the early stages of the book; banter nonexistent except between FMC and Devon of all people (I’d ship that throuple), mystery unresolved, angst not as angsty, we’ll see about book 3 to wrap it up.
I really enjoy this series. The second installation feels like a decent departure from the first book but in a good way. I felt like the first book ended in such a way that I wasn't sure how the story would grow. However, this book starts up with a bang where we see Arc being kidnapped and his memory of the last eleven years erased. Nava has to team up with her enemy to find Arc and discover some pretty big secrets Arc hadn't been forthcoming about before. We learn a lot about Arc's background, his family and a juicy new prophecy! There's hauntings, a false engagement, shadow demons and of course new powers for Nava to grapple with. If you enjoyed the first book you will like this one more! However, there is less battling and fighting than the first book.
The magic system in this book is so unique. Nava is a bee-keeper which comes with its own set of powers and a destiny to boot. But her powers continue to grow and her bond with Arc is constantly changing.
The romance in this book is so heartbreakingly good. The memory wipe was such a fun addition however I wish there had been a little more teasing and tension between the three characters at the beginning. The author also graced us with some delicious spice which was tasteful and 🔥.
I cannot wait to read what comes next for these characters. The author left this book with a bit of a cliffhanger and a lot of unanswered questions. There's a ton of material and plotlines that the author has at their disposal that could really make this an epic series.
My biggest hangup was with the audio recording. The voice actor is very robotic and the inflections they used don't always match the scene. I think if this book had a better voice actor it could really come alive for the audience much better.
Story ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spice 🌶️ 🌶️ ( the balcony scene 🥵) Audio 🎧🎧
AHH I loved this! Big improvement from book 1 - or maybe I'm just attached to the characters now, but this is definitely a HIGH 4.5 STARS!! COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN.
Months after the end of book 1, Ark and Nava are have been happily mated and settled in the Northern Village until Ark is abducted in the middle of the night. Nava, in her desperation to bring Ark home, puts her trust in Devon Black.
Nava's a bad biyatch and her powers are unlike any I've ever read before. No longer afraid of magic, she's extremely strong and resilient and does everything in her power to save the man she loves.
While book 1 dove more into Nava's past, book 2 revolved a lot more around Ark's past and his family. A lot of things in Ark's storyline seem to fall into place and a lot more secrets about his family are unraveled.
The storyline was amazing, the characters were amazing, and the magic system and world are great. There were honestly NO moments of happiness for the characters but THE ANGST?! THE YEARNING?! AND THE DUAL POV!!?!Thank you author! I wish this book was longer. I love the soulmate trope.
Can't believe I let myself start an incomplete series and now I have to wait almost a year for the next book *cries in impatience*
I’ve been so impatient and excited for book 2 as the first one had me hooked from the first page. Abbey Fox has kept up the momentum as “The Curse of a Kingdom” is just as amazing as The Curse of the Crow. Her writing style sucks you in and I adore the way she puts so much detail into her writing but in a way that doesn’t make it boring or have you feeling like you’re in information overload. I’m hooked, the characters and story keep me on the edge of my seat and I cannot stress how excited and impatient I am for the 3rd book lol.
I’ll admit that the amnesia trope isn’t one of my faves but I didn’t mind it in Abbey Fox’s writing of book two. Most sequels for books and/or movies don’t live up to the hype of the first. This book is not one of those! I promiseeee! It really commands your attention with the characters and developments and how the story is written. I’m a sucker for second chance type romances and the whole trying to have your soulmate fall in love with you again premise is something I am here for.
5 amazing stars for an amazing author who has written and planned out an amazing book.
Once again, Abbey Fox has written a book I devoured in a day. Though the amnesia trope is not my favorite (too painful) I enjoyed learning more about the world of The Wicked Kingdom series. I am so glad to have the second book in the series, and so sad book three isn't ready yet. I cannot wait to see how this story concludes and if our soulmates can survive not only the outer conflicts, but those within themselves as well.
A summary:
Where book one starts us in Nava's world, book two drops us fully in Arkemedes world, where he has lost 11 years of his life and is searching for answers to his mother's death.
With their bond broken and their ability to protect the realm weakened, the demons are finding more ways in. Though Ari, the main Beekeeper does his best, he needs his counterpart Nava and their protector Arkemedes to be in full working order to be able to truly fight the beasts.
Yet another antagonist waits in the shadows, one possibly behind the scattered events that have torn our couple apart and encouraged the demons to attack.
This series has made me read late at night when I should be sleeping. I HAD to know what was going to happen after reading the first book!
Just when it seems that Nava and Arkimedes are settling into some semblance of a normal life, Ark is kidnapped and taken to another land. Due to the soulmate bond with Ark, Nava has to act quickly as possible to get to him before the distance kills them both. In a desperate move, she strikes a deal with Devon Black, who is now a prisoner , to open a portal and take her to Arkimedes. When they get there, they realize that Arkimedes has no memory of the last 10 years. Ugh!!!!!
I won’t spoil the rest, but I will say that I was on edge hoping that Ark and Nava would be reunited. The tension between the two main characters is SO, SO GOOD!!
The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger, so you can join the rest of us who are ready to dive into book 3 to see what the heck will happen next!

I have adored this book. It is much stronger than the first, and draws you into the plot much quicker. I found myself hooked from about 70% and unable to put my kindle down at all (no mean feat when you've got a writing deadline and 2 small children to look after!)
Ark and Nava are their usual, wonderful selves, but it was a brilliant twist to see more of Devon in this book. It also felt like Nava's character developed more in this book, and I really enjoyed seeing her progress with her magic.
Whilst this is the second in the series, I do feel like Fox works hard to walk the balance between catching new readers up, and to keep it pacy for those who have read the first book. Fox does this with skill, and I am already impatiently tapping my fingernails for the next installment!
Abbey Fox wins once again with the second instalment of The Wicked Kingdom series.
Ark and Nava are back and I am so thrilled to have been able to get my hands on the next chapter of their story early.
Full of fantasy, adventure, intrigue, magic, amnesia, and steamy romance, what’s not to love about this series. The cliffhanger from book one floored me and I had to find out what happened. Following Ark and Nava on this latest adventure was an absolute treat.
If you haven’t already read book one (The Curse of the Crow) I highly suggest it. You won’t be disappointed.

**Received an ARC Copy of the book in exchange for an honest review**
Okay overall this stressed me out pretty much the whole time. Ark with the amnesia trope was killing me and breaking my heart. Nava was breaking my heart and damn if she wasn’t headstrong. Nava fighting for her soulmate this entire book seriously about killed me.
Devon, now I love him! What is happening.
These are all my thoughts immediately after finishing. Okay so it starts right into the story, but then it is a little slow going. Tons more added to this world and this story that I’m going to have to think and reread before the next one. THE ENDING SHEESH KILL ME. okay I love Nava and Ark they need a happy ending and now poor Devon I hope he gets one too despite me hating him in book one.

The story picks up swiftly from the first book with some gentle memory refreshers and then it’s all go! I adored the soulmates theory from the earlier book, and the angst our beautiful Nava and Arkimedes go through in this instalment is unreal.
I don’t like to give spoilers at all in reviews but let me say there is a lot of slow burn going on as they try to find a way to get their minds and souls back in sync, that slow burn results in one of the most delicious and steamy scenes I have read in a long time!
The world building is top notch, the characters deep and likeable, everything just feels rich and so well thought out, it’s a book you can utterly sink into.
The ending left me desperate to know more and I will be first in line for part three!
I had this downloaded and on my TBR list for a while and even tried starting it a couple times but couldn’t get into it. I decided to try one more time before I returned it to KU and found myself hooked into it this time within the first 15%.
This book is so different from the first in the series, which had to spend so much time world building and explaining the magic of the world. This one wasn’t slowed down by that and it was an interesting twist in that one of the MC had a spell cast that made them lose their memories from the last 11 years. It was much more about the court politics than it was fighting, which I found much more interesting.
There is a cliff hanger ending. Which I hate. But I will be looking for the next book in the series and hope it comes out soon.
What to do if you’re an author and can’t decide which one of your main romantic characters should fall first? Well, make one of the characters get the honors, then give them amnesia in the next book, so the other character can get their chance. Brilliant tactic!
Seriously though, this was way better than the first book in the series. It was still a simple and predictable plot with some choppy writing, but it was also fast-paced, entertaining and unlike the first book, it didn’t read as an immature YA.
I pretty much flew through this book in one afternoon, even though the world building was still more of a concept, so I just went with it half the time. Fun times.
I absolutely loved this book! From the first chapter I was hooked and struggled with having to put it down. After reading The Curse of the Crow I had high expectations and Abbey Fox has exceeded everyone of them. There were so many thing that’s I didn’t see coming and was in my feels for 99.9% of the book. I love Nava and Ark’s relationship and thoroughly enjoyed learning more about theirs stories and getting to see some more growth within the characters. I cannot wait for their story to continue!

Fantasy romance is my JAM 🙌 and I enjoyed this continuation of Nava and Ark’s story.
The adventure starts right away in book 2. Although I didn’t remember all that had transpired in book 1, there were enough bread crumbs to piece it together as I went.
Nava and Ark come off the page as true soulmates with sizzling chemistry even when Ark doesn’t know what’s going on. As in book 1, the nature magic system is fascinating.
If you enjoy fated mates romance and nature magic, you should check out this series!
I highly anticipated this book as the first one of the series had me hooked from the beginning. "The Curse of a Kingdom" is just as great as is predecessor, Abbey Fox's writing and the way she puts so much detail make you go on an emotional rollercoaster as the characters keep evolving and their story keeps unraveling. Can't wait for the third one.
This was an amazing story continued where book one left off. This fantasy world just keeps getting bigger. The characters grow so much in this book as their adventure continues on. Definitely has some twists that you don’t see coming and has an evil cliffhanger ending that has me wishing I had book three already. Very highly recommend to all fantasy lovers.
Fantastic! Nava is forced to join forces with her nemesis to save her soulmate that was taken from their home. I went through all the feels while on Nava's journey and was pleased with the outcome but the ending did leave me hanging a little. I cant help but wonder what's in store for the couple in the next book. Cant wait to find out.
OMG this book was so good. Didn’t expect that the story would have me reading, stop then found myself compelled to pick it up and complete it. I read that in a couple of hours. Can’t wait for book three. The characters were lovable and felt right for each other and the story. Ends on a cliffhanger but still great story
Oh hell no!!! How could you end it like that with not so much as a hint!!!! I’ve followed this story word for word and did not have a clue that this would be how this book would end !!!
I loved this series so much! Im not giving it 5 starts just because I’m not into the whole amnesia trope it just over shadowed the story. We read a whole book of Nava & Ark falling in love then basically had to read it all again.
Definitely still worth the read and I’ll be reading the 3rd
This one was torture seeing the soulmates not in the same page of what they want for their lives. Devon Black in his own way I think is rooting for them, he just hasn't worked out his issues with Arkimedes. He's the villain you hope will redeem himself.
