I recently had the pleasure of reading "YOU NEED A WRITTEN BUDGET", and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. As someone who has always struggled with budgeting and financial planning, this book came as a breath of fresh air.
As an individual, I firmly believe in the importance of prepping for uncertain situations. While we cannot control everything that worries us, being prepared can provide a sense of security and act as a lifeline when needed the most. It is reassuring to know that I have taken steps to mitigate potential risks.
Out of all the challenges I have faced, budgeting and financial planning have proven to be the most daunting. Without careful tracking and management, money can easily slip through my fingers, leading to misplaced expenses and missed opportunities. It has become clear to me that I need to prioritize budgeting in order to gain better control over my finances.
When I came across the book titled I was immediately intrigued. The very first question posed in the book "What Does Your Future Look Like?", resonated deeply with me, as I often contemplate what lies ahead. Furthermore, the author's focus on boosting income and exploring fundamental concepts in budgeting caught my attention.
This book is not just a simple planner; it promises to be a comprehensive resource, a knowledge bank, and a financial guide. The author's efforts to address various queries and issues in an approachable manner show a genuine commitment to helping readers navigate the complexities of budgeting. Such guidance is not freely available to everyone, and many individuals, like myself, could greatly benefit from it.
I can confidently say that the author has done an amazing job. The content is well-structured, insightful, and practical. It provides valuable direction and tackles essential aspects of budgeting that are often overlooked. I highly recommend giving this book a quick look; I genuinely believe it will prove to be immensely helpful in gaining financial stability and planning for a better future.
In these days of economizing and stretching every dollar just as far as it will go, the first thing everyone should do is to create, and maintain, a written budget. It will show exactly where every penny is going. This book is here to help.
The are three different kinds of budgets. A written budget, whether it is on paper or stored on a computer, forces you to write down all of your expenses. In an envelope budget, money is put into several different envelopes (rent, groceries, debt, etc.) and you can spend only from that envelope. It is good if you prefer to use cash only. A mental budget is a cop-out used by unorganized people.
You have to split up your paycheck into categories like rent/mortgage, bills, savings and investing. Aside from being brutal in cutting your expenses (cut some, or all, of those monthly subscriptions on your credit card), invest some of that money in the stock market or in corporate or government bonds. No company, or government, wants to default on their bond payments. Bonds also pay a specific interest rate, so there is no need to worry about the stock market affecting the amount of money that you will receive.
Another thing that is very important is having a cash reserve. Unexpected expenses will always come at the worst possible time. You also need savings, which will help to cover shortfalls in your expenses.
The author lives in India, so Western readers will see words like lakh, crore and INR. Don’t worry about it; they involve Indian currency. The investment principles are still the same.
The vast majority of this book is a journal that will let the reader record all parts of their budget, assets as well as expenses. For anyone starting a budget for the first time, this book is well worth considering.
Budgeting is not a new concept for people. We need to set up budgets everywhere and anywhere. Be it the smallest thing like a gift or managing your finances, you always need to determine what you are planning to spend. Being a Chartered Accountant, I can relate to this practice quite often.
It is not about how much we earn, it is about how we manage the money that we earn, which defines our life. We can never earn enough if we do not know how to spend it. Extravagance will always lead you to debts. So this book is a guide to managing money.
This book focuses on the need for a written budget. We often tend to forget the figures when we try to remember them. So this book provides you with a step by step process to manage your money. The author is not giving you definitions or theory or any subject material. He has provided a financial journal. It may be the first of its kind. We are used to writing personal journals, experiences and thoughts and now we should bring into practice writing financial journals.
This journal gives you a planner where you can write down your income, expenses, investments and plan out the portfolio you want to invest in. It also provides various ratios and return of investment calculators to keep track of your investments. The author divided the book into daily, weekly, monthly and yearly concepts. So, we have different comparisons of the way we invest our money. You can have a 52 week comparison, monthly comparison, yearly comparison and so on. You can also track your debts and receipts. The better we manage our resources, the more money we have at our disposal.
I find this concept a helpful one in financial planning. We need to bring this into our monthly practice. All the best !

A couple of months ago I got to this video, where people talk about how important is to promote budgeting to add it to public education. Meanwhile, some schools are imparting financial education to their students in the United States. Following financial issues is a global topic, I am not sure about the percentage mentioned in the book nor that I think of it as impossible, but “Budgeting can mean 90% of the financial stability”. One of the first steps that changed my life into getting economic stability was indeed “Buying the 8000 milk instead of the 12000 milk” to put an example. The Second was “You need a written budget” as the title of the book, to evade unnecessary spending. Third follow your get out of debt”, don't worry you have instructions written, a guide for your journey to set yourself financially free.
I'm frugal by nature but I wanted to start tracking my expenses in order to see where I can save money further. The budget journal explains how it's crucial to create and stick to a budget. The journal starts off asking various questions about finance and goes on to discuss budgeting, the value of money, financial tips, etc. A monthly and yearly planner are included. For those in need of a budget, recommend!
