I had this lying around on my Kindle for a pretty long time before I actually started reading it. It's a bit long and I haven't been really good at committing to stories, so I just left it there and entirely forgot what it was supposed to be about.
Thankfully, the night is long and full of insomnia, so I finally decided to read it and was quite thrilled to see it was a story about Loki and Tony Stark (as I was saying, I *entirely* forgot what it was about).
I was less thrilled by the beginning. It's a bit breathless and exposition-y, as if Scyllaya was just trying to get to the point already. Or maybe that's how I felt it.
In short, JARVIS informs Tony that there's something weird going on, he goes off to investigate without putting his armor on - and finds himself face to face with Loki, who's coming in through a mirror and trying to fight off his captors. He gets overpowered, however, and Tony does, too, which gets them both kidnapped.
Figuring I could roll with that, I kept reading. And I'm really happy I did, because I think Scyllaya's style either improved in time, or I got a lot more accustomed to the story and started really feeling the characters.
The first half of the fanfic has Loki and Tony in space, commandeering vehicles, being space pirates and rescuing people who become part of their crew. And it's super-fun; I really enjoyed it despite me not being huge on sci fi, especially the ships-and-space kind.
In the second half, they actually get back on earth and start getting involved in politics, finding allies, taking care of messes left behind and so on.
The story's awesome, and the characters are, too (I'll be remembering them for some time to come, and I'll also be checking out other works by Scyllaya). There are some typos and stuff here and there, but they're no too hard to ignore, so just ignore 'em.
UPD: BAtW is The Story. It starts with a horrible obstacle to overcome (), but our heroes prevail to become space pirates. So if you want to live vicariously and be awed by technology and magic beyond our words, this is it. They make friends and enemies, until they meet an old friend of one of our heroes, well, the story just punches you in the face with Hatchet's bar-fight in a space-port. That is never not going to be fun. The story flows and develops, it ends up queer but not too in-your-face-smutty despite E-rating, you get everything from reunions to doing politics to epic-level-battles. It has a happy end. Certainly will reread again in the future. __ What do you mean, Hatchet is not real? Hatchet is real!
This is probably one of the best Fan fiction I've ever read. I am so amazed by this work. It was so long but simultaneously it was so short. I would give so much more stars if I had the possibility. This fan fiction is a beautiful space opera. It has action, it has slight romance. I was so captivated by it I couldn't put down my ereader and my phone.
This is one of the greatest pieces of literature I have read in a long time. I would pay a lot of money for this if I had to. There are so minor grammatical errors and spelling mistakes but they are negligible and I can't remember anything specific.
I really, really liked it. As it is super massive you really get to know the OC's, of which there are plenty - and all of them interesting! Its well written, emotionally engaging and memorable. I'll miss them already.. Will definitely re-read in a few years.
