Rio Bryn Wallace had been the one bright spot in my life before my grandparents brought me to live with them. While living in the run-down trailer park my momma had moved us to the last few years of her life, Bryn had given me a reason to smile every day. After finding my mother’s dead body, my grandparents had picked me up and I started a new life in The Shores, Alabama. It had always bothered me that I never got a chance to tell Bryn goodbye. Now, seven years later, my memories of the beautiful girl who I considered my first love were destroyed by the disappointment she had become.
Bryn When life took another nosedive from bad to worse, which happened too often, I would tell myself that one day I’d find Rio March. It got me through my darkest times and gave me hope. When my sister had, once again, gotten us forced out of town, by sleeping with the local minister and turning everyone in the community against us, I took the money I had saved from working over-time and I made the decision on where we would move. However, fate was never on my side. Within two weeks of arriving in The Shores, Rio hated me and made sure everyone else in town did too. I couldn’t even take my nephew into the candy store.
It didn’t seem to matter where we moved, this would always be our outcome. Hated, looked down upon, and judged for sins I hadn’t committed. But I was done moving. The trashy Wallace girls were in town to stay.
Abbi Glines is a #1 New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of the Rosemary Beach, Smoke, Sea Breeze, Vincent Boys, Field Party and Existence series. She never cooks unless baking during the Christmas holiday counts. She believes in ghosts and has a habit of asking people if their house is haunted before she goes in it. She drinks afternoon tea because she wants to be British but she now lives in New England and that's as close as it is going to get. When asked how many books she has written she has to stop and count on her fingers. When she’s not locked away writing, she is reading, watching Netflix and all the introverted stuff. You can connect with Abbi online in several different ways. She uses social media to procrastinate.
I would've given this a higher rating if the heroine's psycho, lazy, narcissistic, selfish, drug addicted, vindictive and slutty criminal sister, who literally didn't care if her young son starved, had died a more painful death in prison. As it was, she died from a mere drug overdose. Life's so unfair sometimes...
Someone this soulless, should have been a victim of an ice pick orgy, with Big Bertha the Boob Basher and Clarice the Clit Nibbler delivering some painful prison justice.
An underwhelming H, who isn't as memorable as Rush or even manskank Grant from her earlier books. He claimed to love her since they were kids but he admitted to eventually forgetting about her and moving on with his life, after leaving the trailer park.
Abbi Glines also introduced a totally charmless cheater named Decker, towards the end of the book. Based on her M/O, I'd say that he'll be the H of a future novel and might probably be paired with bland, boring, boo hooing Hazel.
If that's the case, I'll be skipping that one because I'm not interested in reading about a guy who was the heroine's first boyfriend but went and had sex with her slutty, evil sister just because the heroine wasn't ready for a sexual relationship. On top of that, he thought he was the father of the heroine's nephew but didn't even think to send even $5. 00 in the mail, to help with expenses.
My rating is based solely on the fact that this book was so entertaining that I read it in one session. Plus extra points for Cullen. He was a cute little kid and I totally understood why the heroine sacrificed so much, to take care of him.
Safety: H wasn't celibate after their first separation but he was just 15 or 16 years old then and they hadn't parted as romantic partners, but just as friends. The heroine was celibate. No OW and a wannabe OM who propositions the heroine a few times but she doesn't accept his offers, so there's no cheating. The heroine was also a victim of sexual abuse, as a child. She wasn't raped but the abuser (mom's deadbeat boyfriend) touched her inappropriately. Her mother killed him when she found out and ended up in jail.
Abbi Glines is one of those authors that are hit and miss for me. Some of her books I absolutely love and others just don't quite work out for me personally. I think this one had so much potential and I did like a lot about it, but the hero wasn't likable throughout the whole first half, and there was just too much towards the end. It felt rushed to me and I wanted some type of conclusion or epilogue that featured the actual couple.
Whelp, this was one of the most random books I have ever read. I’m kind of at a loss for words because I just don’t even know how to process a lot of what I just read. Let’s discuss my two “favorite” rando scenes, shall we?!?
Random event 1: 12-14 page detailed OM scene where he dirty talks the h. First I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to be creeped out or turned on. Secondly there was absolutely no point to this scene! The OM basically falls off the face of the earth never to be seen again 😅 (not really, we saw him like two more times where things are awkward AF).
Random event number 2: At 57% of the book the H has only touched the h once, he grabbed her waist, and now he’s making out, going down on her, and sticking his finger in her ass. Their first scene!! Their second touch! And she’s a virgin! 🙃🤪 surprise! 🤦🏻♀️
And now the ending: oh man, first the H never flat out says “I love you”. He says “yeah I know babe. I sort of got that from your adorable jealous tantrum” after she says it to him. Then after she sees him allowing an OW, who was his last hook-up, to flirt with him he says “don’t worry babe, I was just telling her how I’m in love with you”. Poor h. She endured his judgments of her for 57% after idolizing him for so long and she can’t get a direct “I love you”. 🙄😬😩.
Then our epilogue. You know that part where we get to revel in the sweet romantic future moments between the H and the h? The last bit that we get. The part that stays with us. Whelp, here. Oh man. It was, bhahaha, I can’t even get this out. It was….a 5 years in the past scene!!! But wait, the best part! It was between her, her cheating ex boyfriend, and her whore of a sister who said ex slept with! 🤪😅🤣. I can not make this shit up!! Why on earth this established author thought that I needed this moment of her driving away from her ex while he yells “call me” beats me. Throwing my hands in the air on this one. Told you, random AF.
Ugh. The sex scenes were good though. So, errrr, yay? 🙃

Abbi Glines was one of the first authors whose books I loved and got me into the new adult/contemporary romance genre. I’ve read quite a lot of her books before but I haven’t read from her in a while mostly because I was starting to not connect with her stories nor her characters, although I’m glad I took a chance and read this one. I actually started reading the first book, Lyrics of a Small Town, but DNF’d it because I got a bit frustrated with the characters especially regarding the OW drama. Anyway, I’m not here to talk about that book, I’m here to talk about this one which I actually sorta kinda enjoyed… for the most part.
I think Bryn is one of Abbi’s better heroines to date (Della is still my favorite though). Yes, she has her flaws and like most of Abbi’s other heroines, still has that betraying body syndrome (don’t they all 🙄), but it tolerable…ish. She actually sorta held her own with Rio and wasn’t that much of a pathetic idiot when he was around. Only when he started to really pursue her did her BBS start lol. But still, it was kinda bearable. I still liked her and admired her strength, her tenacity, and her complete love & devotion to her nephew, Callum. Their relationship and interactions were actually one of my favorite parts of this book. Rio, on the other hand, frustrated me and got on my nerves in the first few chapter (like during the first 40%) because of his actions and inner thoughts regarding Bryn. But of course, no matter how much he tried to picture her as screwed up and how much he tries to convince himself he’s better than her (eye roll), his attraction towards her wins out. I only started liking him after he decided to screw his inner turmoil and pursue Bryn. After that he was pretty much a swoon-worthy guy. He was a stand-up guy to for being there for both Bryn and Callum no matter what was thrown their way (like the death of Tory). He was also super protective and hella possessive of Bryn, and I couldn’t even blame him. I feel the drama thrown towards the end was kinda unnecessary and was only there for extra drama purposes, but a jealous and possessive Rio is always a welcome sight so I didn’t mind it too much lol. Overall, I think this was a great small town friends-to-enemies-to-lovers somewhat second chance romance, if that’s what you’re looking for. Just don’t get too excited about the ending though… cause it’s hella weird. Like an epilogue that’s 5 years ago LOL welp, there’s a first time for everything I guess 🤷🏻♀️ It also didn’t even involve the H and h but rather her ex bf lololol like I said… weird. Anyhoo, still enjoyable to me so whatevs!
**MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW**
Safety Gang: -CW: sexual abuse (off page), physical abuse & verbal abuse (flashbacks), death of a sibling, drug use (side characters), overdose (side character), death of a parent (flashback), traumatic childhood (both MCs), public nudity (h works as topless waitress at a strip club) -Safe sex: condoms were used at first but disregarded later on; both clean (h was a virgin but not on birth control and H was tested and never had sex without condom before) -H age 22/23, h age 21 -No cheating -No sex/intimate scenes with other people -Some OW drama; women would flirt with H sometimes and the h would see and cause jealousy, but doesn’t cause major drama, if anything it turns the H on every time. Also, the H has this casual hookup who he made plans to go out and sleep with when he was trying to get the h out of his head, but didn’t go through with it -OM drama; h’s boss in the strip club wants her and was trying to date her, which cause major jealousy from the H and they have this random scene wherein the boss talks dirty to her and tried to seduce her and she wasn’t quite sure whether she was turned on or horrified…? Lol. Also, the h’s cheating ex bf randomly shows up towards the end wanting her back, creates some drama and jealousy for the H as well (apparently he was claiming to be Callum’s dad since he cheated on the h with her sister gross) -HFN ending with no (legit) epilogue (like I said, don’t get too excited about the ending since it’s hella weird. Ended quite abruptly and I definitely needed more than that for a HEA. The "epilogue" was 5 years ago that involves a random scene between the h, her sister, and her ex bf -- so darn weird I tell ya)

And throw them towards the h. She deserves all the love and more.
Because H DEFINITELY did not deserve a star.🙄
Beta H. Sweet h. Hardworking h. Non-sympathetic H. NOT JP H. Virgin gal. No-manwhores. HEA. No-cheating. OM drama(Her ex whom she did NOT love)/(Her boss whom she did NOT have feelings for).
P.S-Thanks to my friend Ivy H for her amazing review
DNF I hate rio he treats Bryn so bad she should end up with saint all rio did for the 120 pages that I read was judge Bryn and treat her like dirt and what's wrong with a woman working in a strip club it's OK for men to go there to look at the woman but not the woman working there make it make sense please
Whispers of a Broken Halo is listed as a standalone book and can be read as a standalone . Rio(H) was a side character in Lyrics of a Small Town(Henley/Saul’s book). I really liked Rio in Lyrics of a Small Town, so I wanted him to get a story. Rio was one of my favorite characters that book. Whispers of a Broken Halo takes place a year after Lyrics of a Small Town.
Rio March (H) I think he’s 22/23. Bryn said he is two years older than her. Bryn Wallace(h) 21.
The story is told in dual pov.
Trigger Warnings:
Bryn and Rio were childhood friends. Rio moved into the trailer park where Bryn lived when he was 14 and I think she was 12. Rio had to move around a lot bc his mother would hop from man to man. For Rio, Bryn was the only good thing about moving into the trailer park. One day, Rio ended up finding his mother dead of a drug overdose. I think Rio was 15. After, Rio’s grandparents took him to live with them. Bryn was sad bc she never got a chance to say good-bye. She always remembered the boy who was protective and sweet to her. Bryn always dreamed of seeing Rio again and how it would be. Well, things didn’t go how she dreamed it would.
There are a few flashbacks to when Bryn and Rio were younger. Rio was so sweet to Bryn in the flashback scenes. I wish there would have been more flashback scenes with them. He was so protective of her. I can see why Bryn dreamed of seeing him again.
At the start of the story, Bryn has been living in the Shores, Alabama for two weeks. She came there because she knew Rio lived there. Bryn, her sister Tory, and 4 year old nephew Cullen had to leave the last town because Tory had sex with a married minister. They were ostracized in the town Just when they would get settled in a place, Tory always did something to screw thing up. I thought Tory was a terrible sister and neglectful mother. Bryn always got stuck cleaning up her messes.
They were only in the Shores for two weeks when Tory managed to screw things up yet again. Bryn got stuck as the scapegoat. It made Rio think that Bryn was no longer the girl he used to know.
Tory- Bryn’s older sister. I wasn’t a fan of hers. I kind of wanted her to die or run off with some crack head
Rio was ticking me off early in the story. I didn’t like that he kept judging and criticizing Bryn when he didn’t have all the facts. He blew Bryn off without giving her more of a chance to explain. I get that she wasn’t going to tell him the truth though. I think it was easier for Rio to just think the worst about Bryn, that way he could distance himself from her. Bryn’s reappearance in Rio’s life brought back memories from his past that he tried to forget. I thought he did start to get better as the book progressed and he found out more about the situation. In his mind, he felt guilty and felt like an a**hole. I wish that Rio would have given Bryn more of a verbal apology over the way he treated her. He did try to make things right through actions. I still really like Rio. Rio did become very protective of Bryn and Cullen.
Cullen- Bryn’s 4 year old nephew. I love Cullen. Cullen is so adorable and such a smart kid. My heart broke for what he had to go through because of his neglectful mother. He has abandonment issue and night terrors because of Tory. I love that Cullen got his name from Twilight.
Cullen and his aunt Bryn’s relationship was beautiful. Tory gave birth to Cullen, but Bryn was his mother in every way that counted. Bryn was such a selfless person and would do anything to make sure she provided for her nephew. At least Rio’s grandparents saved him. Bryn had to do everything on her own.
“He knew my background, and as stupid as it was, I wanted him to see what I had overcome. He had made it out, thanks to his grandparents. I had made it out, thanks to me. I had done it. I had survived it.”
Rio and Cullen- Cullen was a shy kid that wasn’t used to men, but he took to Rio fast. It was so sweet to see their bond grow. Rio saw a lot of himself in Cullen because he went through a lot of similar things as a child. Cullen’s the one that gave Rio more insight into Bryn and their life. I loved when Cullen would ask Rio to stay and watch movies with them and he couldn’t say no. The scenes with the three of them were some of my favorite parts of the book.
I liked Bryn and Rio together once he got his head out of his butt. They were pretty steamy together. Rio does get jealous and a bit possessive, but I don’t feel it was OTT. In this case, I don’t really blame him.
Side characters:It was nice to catch up with some of the characters from Lyrics of a Small Town.
Henley- Rio’s half sister. She was the h in Lyrics of a Small Town. One of my favorite parts of Lyrics of a Small Town was Rio and Bryn’s relationship. It was really nice to get to see more of their relationship in this book. I loved seeing Henley call Rio out when he was being an a*hole. I liked seeing Henley stick up for Bryn. Henley only met Bryn briefly and knew she wasn’t guilty of some of the stuff Rio wanted to believe. She was super sweet with Cullen too. She’ll be a fantastic sister-in-law to Bryn someday.
Hazel- is Rio’s aunt that is younger than him. Rio’s grandparents adopted her. More details about that were mentioned in Lyrics. It was nice to see more of Hazel in this book. I think she was only in one brief scene in Lyrics. It was nice seeing more of Rio/Hazel’s dynamic. Hazel stuck up for Bryn. Hazel made sure to call Rio out when was being a jerk.
Saul- Rio’s bff/roommate and Henley’s boyfriend. It was nice to see some scenes with him. I was kind of surprised that Saul and Henley didn’t move in with Henley yet.
Drake-Rio’s other bff/roommate. Drake was his usual self lol. I like Drake’s brother Benji.
I was hoping that Hillya(Rio’s grandmother) and Rio would have grown closer. Rio said that he still wasn’t close with Hillya. I would have liked some scenes with just them.
I wish there would have been some actual scenes with Rio and his Pops, but he was just talked about in the book.
I wish that Rio’s cousin would have popped up in the book. I don’t remember her name. Drake liked her .I think was a way at college.
I wanted to see a play date with Cullen and Keerly.
Safey Gang Info:
I wasn’t crazy about the drama towards the end of the book. I didn’t think it was needed.
I thought the ending was abrupt and that the last scene in the book was odd.
I really wish that there would have been an epilogue that skipped ahead, but there was no epilogue. I wanted to see Bryn, Rio, and Cullen more settled. Cullen’s 5th birthday was coming up, so it would have been sweet to see his 5th birthday party. Rio talked about moving in with Bryn and Cullen. I’m happy things worked out for them bc the three of them deserve all the happiness in the world. I just wanted to see more of their HEA. It’d be nice to get a bonus epilogue or bonus scene with them.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This had so much potential but it fell flat for me. The book in general felt very rushed.
We learn at the start that the mmc and fmc grew up in a trailer park together but he moved away when his mum died and years later, when the fmc and her sister become outcasts in their town, the fmc decides to move to the town she thought the mmc had moved to.
The fmc’s sister has a son but is not really a good mum, she can’t hold a job and is constantly out drinking/doing drugs, so most of the parenting is done by the fmc.
One night, the fmc’s sister is hitting a car (which is owned by the mmc) with a metal pole and causes some serious damage so the fmc decides to takes the fall. The mmc gets all angry and shuts out the fmc, hence the reason they become ‘enemies’.
Idk I just didn’t connect with this book at all. It was cute at times, especially the scenes with the fmc’s nephew, but that was really the only thing I liked about it?
There were also mentions of covid throughout the book which just wasn’t for me. I don’t wanna read about the pandemic right now, no thanks.
I wish this book would have been as good as the first one but it just couldn't live up to its expectations. Don't get me wrong, Bryn and Rio were great...I just think they tried too hard. And there was a lot going on.
Also, what was that ending??
Is that it for the "series"? Does Drake get a book?
I will likely repeat myself but AB's writing does shine with her down-on-her-luck/ trailer trash heroines, her assholes heroes and the UST between them. It might be an old pattern, but she writes them pat down. And this book is no different. Special thanks to my friend Nikki for putting this book on my radar! I can see why she loved it!
The journey taken by Bryn to support her family was really well done, as was the unfair judgyness of Rio. While their chemistry was palpable, I did resent how easy she made it for him (even Bryn admitted it!). However, somehow that worked in the end because the ages they were made it plausible (both early 20s). I also liked how Rio took the time to develop a relationship with little Cullen and did not pressure Bryn to quit her job because he realised he needed to earn her trust. This romance was nothing new but it was well written, ideal for a comfortable and enjoyable read.
That ending kind of threw me off though. Otherwise it would have been a full 4 stars rating. Not only there was no proper epilogue, but that flashback ending was just weird. Was AB baiting for the next book's hero? If yes, it was done in a very strange and oblique way imho.
That said, I am intrigued if there are connected stories about Henley and Saint. Even possibly Decker. I see no series info, but I will dig to check.

I hate this mmc and wish the fmc had more choices - in men and life. Typical mary sue fmc who suffers and suffers, sometimes unrealistically so ... On the mmc's directive, the whole town turns on her and she can't find a respectable job- a town btw she picks to live in after she stalks the mmc, a one time friend - and so she becomes a topless server at a strip joint. More than embarrassing, I felt it was a 'cold' job to do.
And less said about the entitled, judgmental misogynistic pig of an mmc the better. The kind of 'hero' one would wish on no one. AH!
Still, fmc suffers from an acute case of betraying body syndrome. Who cares about self-respect when you can be a doormat, a 'satisfied' one? Add a sweet and innocent nephew, a skanky sister and few twists - and you have a story. Kind of.

My review for this is pretty similar to my review for the first book, Lyrics of A Small Town, which is where we first meet Rio, the hero of this book. A lot of the comments I made for that book apply here so I won't repeat them (you can read that review if your interested in my overall comments about this author's work).
Some specific issues I had with this book were with Bryn (the heroine) and Rio (the hero).
First, I actually really liked Rio (the hero) in the first book, and I'll say I even liked him in this book from the perspective of him as a friend, brother, grandson, etc.
What I didn't like him as? Ironically, the romantic lead in this story. Rio had some issues stemming from his past with his druggie, absentee mother who died of an overdose before he came to live with his grandparents. It felt like he took a lot of those issues out on Bryn, and I didn't love that.
He needed to deal with his past instead of projecting all that hurt onto Bryn. If it wouldn't have been for the way he treated Bryn through half the story - I actually would have really loved his character. He was good to his family, he embraced the sister he had found as an adult (Henley, from the first book), and he was clearly good to the females he loved. So it was hard to get in line with the way he was with the person that was his love interest. I could believe he was attracted to her, but I couldn't really feel the love.
Second, Bryn was too much of a Mary Sue character. Bryn is portrayed as painfully naive (to the point of stupid), virginal, saint. Her portrayal just didn't seem believable after everything she had gone through. I definitely did not love how fast she jumped into Rio's arms after he basically spent the first half of the book either ignoring her or treating her like she was trash. Granted, it was due to some misconceptions on his part, but he didn't apologize, explain himself, or anything. It seemed like one day he just got horny - and boom she jumps into a sexual relationship with him no second thoughts. It was just weird, and honestly not remotely romantic. There was no believable build up to their relationship.
Also, for someone who was portrayed as devoted and worried about the child (the nephew) in her life - it seemed odd to me that she would just start bringing this guy around she hadn't seen since she was a kid without really thinking through how he might treat the child or how this traumatized kid may be affected by this decision. Especially since the kid had already lived through a ton of nonsense with the mother (Bryn's sister).
I would recommend it for fans of the author, but if you are new to her style of writing just be aware of some the things I pointed out going into the story as they may not be for you.

I devoured this book but that seems to be me with every Glines book. This book though really spoke to me for some reason. I couldn't put it down.
Rio and Bryn go way back to a different time and to when they were different people or so it seems. We met Rio in the first book and I was always curious about him. I'm glad we got his story. Years ago they lived in the same trailer park and Bryn was secretly in love with him. She had a stutter and didn't talk much but he got past her walls. Fast forward and now they are back in the same place. However, Rio tries to stay away from her and after a misunderstanding he's certian she is not the girl he remebers.
Eventually, he finds out about the truth by the misunderstanding and things begin to grow between them. Add in the cutest little boy, Cullen, and the insane chemsitry and the book was perfect to me.
It started out good, but it went downhill for me when Rio gave Bryn the light of the day, and she got into a forever state of horniness lol. That bugged me because it seemed like a big deal that she didn't feel attraction and avoided intimacy at all costs because it terrified her due to her trauma. Or maybe it's just me making a big deal lol. The idea of Rio's magic shlong made her trauma disappear into thin air lmao. Loved little Cullen. I may have shed half a tear when Bryn told him about what happened to his mom.
This started off very promising. The beginning was just so, so good, reminding me of old school Abbi Glines. This had many different story elements from her previous works and had them all mashed together. Those elements from those books were what I loved about those book so I thought I was going to absolutely fall in love with this one.
Then the turning point came when Rio couldn’t stop thinking about her. That I didn’t have a problem with, but it was the execution because Rio and Bryn literally went from zero to sixty as soon as he came to that decision. I get this happened over halfway through the book, but it still felt rather rushed. There was no connection between them up into that point, and that connection was based on the sexual. Yes, they had history and feelings for one another in the past, but in the present it was practically nothing. They went from not talking to each other to passionately kissing then suddenly getting sexual in the same scene. Where was the build up between the first kiss to other things because there was none. I didn’t like that. It just knocked the pacing off with its supersonic speed. The scene just didn’t make sense to me especially in the context of the scene.
The big reason for that was due to the fact that Bryn told Saint in a scene before that she couldn’t imagine being intimate with anyone or be vulnerable with anyone in that way. She said another time too. That was due to the fact that she was sexually abused as a child. I got that, but as soon as Rio gave her that lusty look she was all over him like it was no big deal. It just didn’t make sense. The argument could be made because he was the one that everything’s went out the window because she loved him, but I didn’t buy that. I wanted there to be more of a process of them entering a sexual relationship with Rio. The more she trusted him then the more intimate she could become with him hence showing the progression of their love story. Instead they just went at it like rabbits and that was all that they seemed to do.
The shame of it was that Abbi Glines had done this sexual abuse storyline in the past, and she did it so beautifully in how the romance was told. It was more of building of trust and feelings along the way while safely allowing the heroine to explore her sexuality with her hero gradually. It was amazing and breathtakingly beautiful. I thought that was what going to happen here, but it did not leaving me sorely disappointed. Heck, I didn’t even know if Rio knew she was sexually abused. They didn’t have a lot conversations aside from the ones about Cullen and in the bedroom.
The whole thing at the paternity stuff just seemed really unnecessary. It felt like it was just put in there for the sake of putting conflict there especially when the conflict had so meaningful purpose at all. Nothing really changed. It was just pointless.
I think my favorite part was seeing Cullen’s relationship with both Bryn and Rio. It was really sweet and adorable. He was such a cute kid. I loved seeing all of his scenes. I felt like he was the crux of story more than anything else. It was the strongest part of the story.
Overall, I was really hopeful with this one because I loved the beginning so much. I finally felt like it was old school Abbi Glines that I loved. Then when the romance came to a head, it just petered out of me. There wasn’t a lot of emotional intimacy between Bryn and Rio aside from the stuff revolving around Cullen. They never had any meaningful conversations. All they did was jump each other’s bones. Though I appreciated they had feelings and relationship in the past, it didn’t really carry over in the present. Yes, they had their moments, and he did take care of her at times, but there was just not an honest intimacy moment that made sold on the romance. The physical was just focused on. I need more than that in my romances.

It was pretty good story. I finished in one go. But one, I wished Bryn didn't let Rio in her life that easily after the way he acted. He was too judgmental. And I wanted to kick his ass. But Rio just 'I can't stop thinking about you.' and Bryn melted like ice cream in summer. Every hurtful word and look was forgoten. I wished Rio gave proper apology too, instead of just felt guilty inside his head. Bryn deserved it. I keep thinking, and even thought, it doesn't excuse his actions and words, but... I felt that Rio was using his judgment to keep a wall between them. Because he wanted to erase the past that was too dark for him to deal. He wanted no reminder. Which lead to another thought for me. Rio didn't wanted to ever be reminded of the past, while Bryn faced it, acknowledged and moved on. Trying to do best she could at each moment. Bryn made it out because of herself and he because of someone else. So, maybe he didn't wanted to face, that if he wasn't saved from that life, he wouldn't had been strong enough to be able to move on. And ending up being everything he accused her of. Two, I don't think that snippet of throwback at the end was needed. It throw me off, when I learned that's the end.
I started with doubts about this story. After reading the reviews I had the feeling this story would be disappointing. I don't really understand the poor reviews myself. I am very pleased with this story. It's beautiful, heartwarming and sometimes a bit annoying because Bryn's sister is so selfish. In my opinion, Abbi Glines has portrayed the characters perfectly. I love how Bryn was portrayed. A strong and independent woman. I also think it's really beautiful how she takes care of her nephew. So movingly beautiful. In my opinion, definitely a book you should read. A well-deserved four stars.🌟🌟🌟🌟
I actually loved this book, except there was no chase and grovel. Rio was an absolute jerk to Bryn, and overall, I didn't enjoy his character when it came to Bryn. I mainly liked the storyline around Bryn, her sister Tory, and her nephew Cullen. But she was just another heroine with betraying body syndrome and gave in to him immediately. She sort of lost herself and regressed around him, and that was a shame. I never felt that Bryn had full faith and trust in him and their relationship. This ended on an HFN, and I liked that!
As a side note, I'd read a story about Saint.
I recently discovered this author. I really enjoy her writing and storytelling. I'll be reading more from her.
This was good but it wasn’t like her other stories. I don’t know what was missing but I felt like something was. Mostly her stories always make me cry but not this one.
Apart from the last scene, which was so weird and oddly placed it feels like an accident, I really enjoyed this book. I would have liked a little more groveling from the MMC and more of a reckoning for the mean townsfolk, but I’m a sucker for a good grovel. Overall, good read!
Stereotypical bullshit. h is a virgin. Hero doesn’t think sbout her at all and then also ignores her when she comes back. Treats her like shit desite everyone around him telling him that his views about her are wrong.
Then gets really jealous and ‘mine, mine’ about her. The h is a doormat.
