She gave her power to a dead god. Now, she must reclaim it before he destroys the world. Somewhere a vengeful god sleeps, bound by ancient magic to prevent him from wreaking havoc. Alaysha is the witch ordered to watch for the moment he wakes. She hopes he'll rouse peaceful so she can usher him quietly to his realm and finish her sacred duty.
But Alaysha has lived centuries already. The never-ending wait has atrophied her powers and wearied her soul.
Then news of a dormant volcano's eruption rocks the world. As the fire spreads and the death toll rises, Alaysha begins to suspect what the rest of the world can't possibly know.
Thea is a NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY Bestselling Author. She used to have a black lab at her feet when she wrote, warming up the calves. It can be cold in rural Nova Scotia. Now it's just a cuppa tea keeping her warm.
Her urban fantasy pulses with dark themes and action-packed intrigue. Her characters are always deeply wounded creatures struggling for redemption.

No family. No friends. No purpose. Left behind millenias ago by her brethren to defeat a trapped god, should he emerge again, and then a love that wasn't immortal like herself, Alaysha is long ready for relief. Because the god that was defeated and buried by herself and her companions has not returned, apparently she wasn't needed. In order to live with her pain, Alaysha has deadened it the only way she can, and the method has weakened her skills. Will she be able to finally end the immortality and her pain? And what about that trapped god? I found these questions interesting and the suspense kept me reading, no matter the painful empathy I felt for the heroine. I hadn't read the rest of the series and although I find myself interested in reading them, there is enough explanation in the book to make it a stand alone. Well worth the read.

I have only read the first book in this series so I wasn't sure if I would be able to make sense of this one, but I managed to follow along with no problem. Alaysha has been alone in the world for a long time. She lost everyone but her lover when she refused to leave him and go to Etlantium with the others who helped her trap Hel. Once Gaul was gone, she couldn't take the loneliness and had a hard time controlling her power. She turned to drugs to keep the water-drawing ability from killing innocents when she lost control. Through the years she has sought a way to end her immortal life - to no avail. Now the fire god has broken the magic bonding him and its wrecking havoc on innocent people. Her drug addiction is not the only problem she has, but even that is enough to make too weak to effectively fight Hel alone. Her closest companions have reincarnated to join her fight, but will it be enough?

Well that was an entertaining finale to be proud of. The story brings together the elements separated for a millennium to fight the final battle against a vengeful god. Through much suffering Alaysha, Cia and Gael each combine their efforts to bring about the crushing defeat of Hel who would happily destroy the earth's inhabitants to get back at his twin sister. I've enjoyed this book and am happy to be part of Thea's ARC review group. I voluntarily offer my honest review of her book.
Wow this book really brings you full circle thru the MC's pain. It deals with hard subjects such as drug addiction, attempting suicide and digging deeper for inner strength to persevere to remain the hero.
I am fascinated by the depth of this series and the desire to triumph despite deeper inner struggles. Kudos for tackling such hard topics and showing you can be flawed and broken and still be strong and fiercely capable.
I look forward to more from this series and characters.
After living for centuries, Alaysha just wants to die. She is addicted to drugs so her powers will stay deep inside. She is afraid she will kill again if her power gets out. This story about an immortal water witch has non-stop action throughout and is enjoyable to read. Highly recommended.

Another series I'm enjoying very much. If you haven't started yet then do so. This is book 6 of the series and is as good as the first The characters have built nicely and the story line moves along very well.

That was the most incredible series I have ever read.
I love the way you wove each Witch and their Arm into each of their individual stories. Also if you read my previous reviews, I asked you please let there be a Happy Ending! Thank you for granting my wish. Thea, I am truly grateful that you are such an excellent author!!
What a PHENOMENAL finale! I don’t think it could have been better! Alaysha having existed alone for centuries with the pain of being alone and know she couldn’t I would be enough to sent anyone insane. How she managed is beyond me. I have loved this entire series and this book is by far the best. I truly loved it! Bravo, Thea!
