Just as basking in the glow of the warm evening sun does, this radiant collection of poetry and art from bestselling poet Wilder, will leave you filled with hope, love, and peace.
Accompanying Wilder’s first book of poetry Nocturnal , Golden is another collection of celestial-themed poems and art by poet Wilder Poetry. Differing from its sister book, this collection is divided into four parts––“Magic Hour,” “Soul,” “Oracle,” and “Sanctuary” ––and focuses on the brightest star in our solar the Sun. Much like the celestial body that inspired its name, Golden explores the brighter, sunnier emotions life has to offer. Readers are guided down a sunlit path to happiness and learn that once the heart is open, opportunities for love never cease.
4/5 stars, another lovely collection from this author
Thank you to Andrews McMeel Publishing for the arc through netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
I have read the sister collection of this book, which is titled Nocturnal, and I really enjoyed it. So when I saw that the author was releasing another poetry collection I immediately requested the arc. While I have to say I didn't enjoy this as much as the other collection, it was still really nice and I loved the message behind it.
The main theme was being thankful, for even just the sunrise in the morning, feeling the sun, and being alive. That's not always easy to do and this book recognizes that it takes time and practice to recognize these small things. When the healing process happens though it's beautiful, just like the sun that keeps so many things alive. I really loved the emphasis on this message, it was wonderful and something that I needed to hear when I read it.
I know lots of people complain about Instagram caption poetry, but it's my favorite form. People can say so much in so few words, and it feels a lot more relatable. That's this kind of poetry, so if you don't enjoy that definitely try something else. But if you do enjoy that, enjoy little words of affirmation, or want to try it out I recommend this to you.
Golden is a collection of poems by Wilder Poetry that are inspired by the Sun. Wilder dives into the beauty of life, art, and nature. Golden focuses on sunnier emotions, which means each piece will leave you feeling lighter, happier, and inspired.
Golden is everything that I admire about poetry. The words flow effortlessly, carry meaning, and leave you feeling lighter and inspired. Golden dives into the beauty of life, art, and nature. Each piece is laced with descriptions of the Sun, accompanied with beautiful imagery to set the tone.
Why do you love the sun? It always touches me back.
It’s refreshing to read a poetry collection that is not filled with grief and loss, This book is a celebration of life. Its lighthearted and optimistic. The pages are filled with pretty illustrations by Henri Rousseau and beautiful words but for me it was a little mediocre. I couldn’t relate to a lot of the stories told but I’m sure someone who does would love it.
Thanks to NetGalley and publishers for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review!
:( I needed a pallet cleanser before hopping into another heavy read, but unfortunately I didn’t like this. The poems didn’t seem to flow very well for me and there were sooo many cliches. I don’t know I don’t know I don’t know I feel bad rating someone’s art because it obviously meant something to them and I’m happy the author was able to channel these feelings in some way! Just wasn’t for me and that’s fine
I usually read poetry in ebooks but I finally found the poetry section at the local B&N. It's tucked away where nobody ever looks with all the other stuff that's generally considered boring, like the Bibles. I was excited to find the sequel to Nocturnal! This is definitely worth having in physical, the art is gorgeous. I ordered the 3rd book from Jeff Bezos and hope it comes before the holiday.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a really beautiful collection of poetry even if it felt a little disjointed in some places. It made really good use of the art from Henri Rousseau.
at some points the poetry was really sappy content wise but some of the poems were very tender. This book is probably gonna be a memento for me disregarding the poetry just cause of this being a gift from my brother
“It’s no secret that I’m afraid of change, but spring and fall showed me that growing and falling is something we can all do day after day and everyone will still call it beautiful”.
Most of the poetry you encounter is positive and hopeful. But it’s always the sad or meh feeling poems I end up relating to…
“if today is a bad day, i want you to know that’s it’s okay to pull the sheets over your head and bury your face inside of them. maybe screaming at the top of your lungs into the pillows will be your greatest act of letting go, or maybe it will leave you with eyes that burn and a headache that wants to hang on for dear life, but at least you will know that what you’re feeling is honest.”
I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. (The version I read was a finished copy.)
Thank you NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the chance to read and review this book.
Wilder Poetry sounded familiar and so I went ahead and checked my goodreads to find that I had read Nocturnal in 2020 via scribd.
I'm very sure that Golden has an audience and fans of Wilder Poetry will love it. The illustrations were all very well done. As a whole, I'm not a huge fan, but there is definitely a good audience for this that will.
I enjoyed this book and marked around 5 poems that stood out. However I didn’t find that it left a particularly lasting impression and I likely wouldn’t read it again.
This poetry collection was stunning. I couldn’t look away, and I wanted to start over and read it again as soon as I was finished. Why can’t there be more books like this?
I was a little slow in the beginning but towards the end I WAS ALL IN! There were poems that reminded me specifically of my childhood summers in Oklahoma with my childhood best friend and then there some inspirational and uplifting poems that I definitely want to come back to for instagram posts. One poem in particular is relevant to the climate of unrest and speaking out against it confidently. Highly recommended 💕
Tattoo considerations lol: “I smile knowing that the colour of the sky will always find me even if nothing else does” “I learned to colour my sky with courage” “Nothing wild and free is ever planned”
Very captivating with its imagery, words and flow of thoughts. Also, very creative and varied with its arrangement of texts and illustrations. An inspiring read that leaves the reader floating and dreaming. Recommended.
This book was very pretty and relaxing to read. Great imagery, I like all the art peppered into the pages. It does leave me wondering how some of the images were chosen and paired with certain stanzas.
The narrator kept jumping from being in love to being heartbroken throughout the whole book, which felt a little repetitive. But I related with many of the experiences shared throughout the story!
Lastly, when you reach part four of the book, "oracle", the poet changes the layout randomly. It wasn't bad, just an interesting observation.
Instagram famous Wilder Poetry dazzles in Golden illuminating the ideas of rising from pain and sadness, finding the light and basking in the glow of a beautiful love story. This book has everything. There are so many beautiful metaphors and symbols that I think helped to transform my own poetry and make it more whimsical and magical. There is also the brightness in being so proud and confident in the love of a relationship. Like the one where our love was made for the whole kingdom to hear and see or our story was for the big screen. Intimate for a Sunday matinee but a blockbuster for the season. This book truly blew me away and I'd read it again and again without doubt.
Favourite quotes:

Like change.” “A letter saying thinking of you next to a bunch of wild flowers because he knew.” “The sun rises for everyone, not matter the season, no matter the day.” “They used to tell me to get my head out of the clouds, but the view up here is too beautiful to miss.” “I’ve been collecting wishes on candles for years and I know that one day they will find their way back to me.” “I can already tell we have so much more to see.” “I will never be finished loving you in this lifetime or in any lifetime.” “When I open my eyes in the morning, I already know that you are my favourite part.” “A day can never have too much light or ice cream dates.” “I love in slow motion.” “I outgrew the box you wanted to keep me in.” “You could have given me a ring from the quarter machine and I would have said yes a thousand times.” “But you never asked the question, so I held my own hand and gave myself forever because at least I was someone I could depend on.” “I saw the way you looked at me and realised maybe this is what it felt like to be found.” “A story like ours was meant for the big screen, a Sunday matinee two tickets for the sold out show with popcorn and candy that we snuck in from the corner store. It’s the only time I break the rules, but you make me want to break a few more.” “Our love was so loud that everyone heard it and when you got down on one knee it brought them to their feet and I took your name in an instant because I knew you and it was made for me.” “When it gets to the credits, you squeeze my hand then look at me and I can already tell that forever won’t be long enough.” “Leaving can be beautiful and coming back can be too.” “Hope makes mountains worth climbing and I’ve never met a sunrise that didn’t move me.” “It hurts that I won’t see you in my dreams.” “When you close your eyes, please don’t forget about me.” “They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and I want to be remembered for something greater than this.” “Why do we grow up and stop thinking that anything is possible when life takes time to show us what is.” “You said I love you like it was poetry, and I held on to it like it was true.” “I was the one who carried the light and you were just a temporary fix.” “You loved me too late and I showed up on time.” “I picked up all the broken pieces and turned them into something beautiful.” “There was a map next to me that directed me to you.” “It was a no traffic on the interstate kind of love. 3.5/5 stars
Golden by Wilder Poetry is a collection of poetry and prose focused on hope, love, peace, healing, moving on, and a lot more. It's filled with images of the sun, nature, and the universe, and the writing is accompanied by illustrations.
This collection deals with some painful themes of loss, but it focuses more on the brighter emotions of life, like hope, moving on, and healing, which I always love to see when I read poetry. The writing is simple and straightforward, but there are many lovely metaphors that make it resonate even stronger. It's touching, meaningful, and beautifully written, and I think anyone can find something to connect to in it.
The illustrations are drawn in quite a simple style, but they are really well integrated into the pages and connected to the poems, which I love. I really enjoy illustrations that take over whole pages, and they only enhanced the reading experience and impact of the words in the book.
I think the reason why I personally wouldn't rate it higher is that something about it was missing for me. I related to many of the poems, and it was an overall pleasant reading experience, but I was never quite filled with awe and intense emotions when reading it, which is what makes a poetry collection stand out to me. I've read so much poetry at this point that I need it to be something a little unique and really powerful to really fall in love with it, which unfortunately didn't happen here.
That being said, I think if you're someone who doesn't read poetry that often, and you'd like to read something hopeful and filled with sunshine, definitely pick this book up! The writing is great and the illustrations are too, and I think it's a really good collection.
and if the dream starts to come undone there is another story waiting to be written After reading and absolutely loving Nocturnal a few years ago, I was delighted to see that Wilder Poetry was about to release a new poetry collection. While Golden is a hope-filled and sunnier companion to the darker Nocturnal, I really appreciate how the author acknowledges the complexity of all emotions and doesn’t focus solely on the positive aspect of growth and healing. Emotional pain wasn’t set aside to make room for more positive emotions, it was instead made clear that feelings are a balance and that both light and dark and can co-exist. I enjoyed these poems a lot, and while some resonated with me more than others, all carried a great deal of emotions and were both touching and lyrical. The prose was beautiful, and I absolutely adored the unique illustrations accompanying this collection. I look forward to reading more from Wilder Poetry and I recommend this book to poetry lovers.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an eARC in exchange for an honest review
Nocturnal was one of my favorite poetry books, which is why I was so eager to read Golden. I enjoyed this book as well, but it fell short for me. My expectations after Nocturnal were definitely high!
Some of my favorite poems & lines:
"and if the dream starts to come undone, there is another story waiting to be written.
you will always find who you are during the hardest times of your life." (31)
"...remember that the storm doesn't last forever and that there's still a reason to love the rain." (136)
"and when the storm falls through my hands, i can see flowers grow around my feet. and when they reach in my direction i realize, this is what it means to be wild and free.
this is what healing feels like." (49)
"when the jungle takes over inside of you, you can either cut it down or let it grow." (84)
This book had three topics that stood out to me: 1. Healing, growth, and self-love all of which really resonated with me 2. Falling in love and maintaining long-term relationships 3. Coping with breakups and loss, some of these stood out to me because I connected with the recent losses of my own life
Here's the thing about my bad days. When they happen, I feel indignation bursting through my veins and I (want to) rant about everything that upsets me. After all, I have never been one to keep my words to myself. What I am feeling in the moment matters because it fuels me to do something. I don't have the power to change the way anyone looks at the sky, but what I do carry within me is a constant reminder (one my mother will never let me forget) that the sun shines for everyone. Often, I will stare back, bright-eyed, at the burning light. Because on days when I feel I cannot do much (yet), I will still hold on to relentless optimism, to the eternal belief that there are wheels in motion, and I can find peace in knowing that my feelings are real. My hope? As raw.
So, in the spirit of staying golden, here are some more words from @wilderpoetry : "Nothing in the wild ever stays the same. Even now I feel the colour of my heart changing." "I dream in colour in a world where everything feels so black and white, and if I know anything about myself, it's that I'm too untamed for a monochromatic life."
There is nothing as romantic as poetic Sunday mornings, right?
"and we both look up, knowing that it was beautiful while it lasted."
"... i will remember that the storm doesn't last forever and that there's still a reason to love the rain."
amongst many poems I read and became my favourites--as I bookmarked most of all the poems--through this collection, those specific lines hit close to home more than anything.
Golden is a collection of poems by Wilder that's come from the sun as its muse. As you read through the pages after pages, poems after poems--that's easy to read and follow--you can feel it clearly the warm, bright, and lighter mood sheering through the words. This is my first read of the author, and I didn't expect that I can feel the sudden positivity and light emotions evoked by reading this. The illustrations/art imagery of natures also makes me feel some kind of secureness and comfy. This has calming and lighten up my mood, and I'll gladly pick it up again and agai n to get me through bad days.
Thanks NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to accessing the e-ARC!
Golden has boundless poems enriched by wondrous visuals. The book is separated into four parts - I. Magic hour, II. Soul, III. Sanctuary and IV. Oracle- in which I missed the reveal of these themes in the poems themselves. Yet, the drift from themes of titles did not disturb the inventiveness of “Golden”- intentionally being a collection of 'sunny' and 'bright' poems which insisted on possibility, freedom, latitude, aspiration and lasting love (in which these were obvious). My best-loved quote : "You are like a piece of art hanging on the walls of a city museum [...] they call you priceless for a reason and when they leave, it's no wonder they can't get you off of their mind [...]" (115).
Observing that Wilder Poetry has two books written from "opposite" emotion spectrums "Golden" and "Nocturnal" would it be possible to see a third book that encircles both phenomenons (celestial bodies) -such as a "Middle ground" (Eclipse) ?
I’m a big fan of poetry and reread my favorite poetry collections a lot, which is why I’m happy to have found another one to add to the list. Wilder poetry’s collection “Golden” is absolutely beautiful, full of metaphors, yet not too full, and I felt very connected to it. I really cannot describe it much different than with the word “beautiful”, so I’ll just leave it at that. I especially enjoyed the headlines/titles in the chapter “oracle”, they were very clever. This book also has many illustrations, which I loved, though they sometimes stretch over multiple pages; I feel like it would have been better to read a print version of the book for these.
All in all a great read.
Disclaimer: I received an electronic copy of the book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Al opinions are my own.
Thanks to Net Gallery for letting me review this book in advance! "Golden" is a book filled to the brim with poetry slams about self love, self discovery, love and also heart break. With a pretty nice choice of words Wilder takes us through her poetry, though the writing style is more straightforward with actions being directly described than more metaphorically which is not completely up to my taste, but then again, just my own taste. I do have to add that there were multiple occasions where "Anyway" and "Thats the thing" were added which often threw you out of this "poetry feeling". The illustrations on the pages were beyond GORGEOUS. It made reading it feel like a warm little hug. It was overall pretty good, your modern poetry book, but sadly nothing out of the ordinary.
"My voice will learn not to shake, but for those times when it does, I will remember that the storm doesn't last forever and there's still a reason to love the rain" 🌧️
There were some poems that were just a little too basic and lacking substance but I think the ebb and flow of the deeper thoughts with the simpler ones truly reflects the process of finding oneself. We don't always have these revolutionary thoughts and epiphanies every night. A lot of going through life is taking things day by day which is how the natural progression of this book felt.
I loved the organization being slightly chaotic and open to interpretation and the visuals were stunning.
Having a golden mindset is something I strive toward and this is a good start for anyone looking for some light in their life ☀️
I think it you’re a true poet, you will evolve with poetry, and it will in turn evolve with you. I started reading wilder when I first discovered poetey, rating her “wild is she” and “nocturnal” quite high. Now, I read poetry books by people you can’t find in Barnes and Noble because they’re diamonds in the rough, yet to be found. But I find her words now cheap, easy, and recycled. That being said, I will always admire her work, but in a way that’s like “oh, this is poetry for people who don’t read poetry” (example: the self love trope, the overused metaphors, the simple washed out magic…though it is magic nonetheless.
but to be honest, there aren’t enough letters In the alphabet for me to spell How much i love you anyway. ( p.99)
It is that kind of poetry where you find exactly what you need to hear. Or you’re going to hate it because it’s kinda cheap, like instagram poetry and you’re the person who is looking for “high” poetry. I am the first kind of person and many poems touched open or taped wounds and healed them or assured them that they supposed to be there. I really enjoyed this book and had a great time reading it.
