I received an advanced copy of this and thought "sure, I have a lot of anxiety all the time, it couldn't hurt to try a self-soothing book". I am glad I did! Each page has something to try to relax yourself and be mindful. No matter where you turn to in the book, there is a great suggestion to take immediate action to help you feel better in that exact moment. The book is meant to help you reduce stress, quiet the noise, and regain a sense of calm, which I think it does quite well. My top 3 favorites are 1) wrap yourself in warmth, 2) try something you fear, and 3) organize one space in your living area.
It seems like medicine is the go-to these days when someone is dealing with anxiety, but there are a plethora of activities you can engage in that do not include pharmaceuticals. Enter Robin Raven’s The Little Book of Self-Soothing. This handy guide contains 150 resources for managing your emotions, relieving stress, and restoring calm.
The Little Book of Self-Soothing is divided into three sections - body, mind, & spirit - and gives practical suggestions for managing your stress and anxiety in the moment and finding your way back to calm. The activities in this book help quiet the mind and guide the reader in finding a place of peace to rest and restore.
While some of the activities in this Little Book are tried and true - relaxing with aromatherapy, taking a walk in nature, and setting boundaries - others are ones that I never would have thought to try, such as moving like a sloth (it distracts your racing mind), reciting a memorized poem (it forces your brain to concentrate on something else), or imagining a new world (it gets your mind on something else for a while.)
There’s a wide variety of activities in this book, and most people are sure to find an activity (or two, or three!) that suits their personality type. While readers are likely to form favorites among the suggestions, it can also be refreshing to just flip to a random page and try something new to soothe yourself when needed.
Thank you @robinravenvegan @adams_media @simonandschuster @letstalkbookspromo for my free book. My thoughts are my own.
“Self-soothing is the process of taking immediate actions to help you feel better in this exact moment.”
My husband and I are hosting our daughter’s wedding reception at our home in less than TWO weeks, and over the last month, with the holidays, and now, dealing with caterers, cleaners, and, perhaps the most stressful part of all, fitting into the dress I am planning to wear, I have definitely been feeling a little stressed! So this delightful book is perfect for me, not only today, but EVERY day, as there will always be stressors and irritations that can throw me off balance! And I think that is something we all may have in common!
This book is a treasure trove of 150 self-soothing activities designed to put you in control of your emotions and stress. The book is divided into 3 parts: Body, Mind, and Spirit. Each activity is something you can easily do with little thought or prep and it can fit in your schedule at any time or place. I am planning to pick up several copies of this book to give as gifts throughout the year.

The Little Book of Self Soothing provides 150 activities to use to assist in emotion regulation and improve anxiety. There are three different main areas targeted in this book: body, mind, and spirit. These activities are easy to implement and most can be done in any environment. There are so many activities provided that you can find which ones resonate best with you. These are valuable exercises so that you can learn how to regulate your emotions. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.
Some of the pages in the book were bound in upside down, which was annoying. Some of the suggestions were repetitive- like three very similar breathing exercises. I would have found it less annoying if it had been a dedicated section to breathing exercises, instead of spreading them out in different sections. Some of the suggestions were not accessible to those with hearing loss. And some suggestions I thought were good, but those were spread pretty far apart for me.
I love The Kindness Workbook by Robin Raven so I was so excited to start The Little Book of Self- Soothing. These both live on my bedside table and are the perfect way to start each morning and end each night.
Raven has such a thoughtful way of writing. I highly recommend these for anyone who is trying to be more intentional with their self care and mental health.

The perfect reference for when you need to be kind to yourself. Try different ways to break out of the cyclical thinking and drop the anxiety meter to zero. This book and something that will work for you.
I loved this handbook of ideas to help soothe yourself. One of my favorites is the circle of gratitude (write things you are grateful for on index cards and surround yourself with a circle of the cards).
I found this book to be quite useful. Every idea for self-soothing is short and to the point so you are able to flip through and find what works for you.
