How terror was used by Zionist militias to transform Palestine into an apartheid settler state.
The Israel-Palestine “conflict” is typically understood to be a clash between two ethnic groups—Arabs and Jews—inhabiting the same land. Thomas Suárez digs deep below these preconceptions and their supporting “narratives” to expose something starkly The violent take-over of Palestine by a European racial-nationalist settler movement, Zionism, using terror to assert by force a claim to the land that has no legal or moral basis.
Drawing extensively from original source documents, many revealed here for the first time, Suárez interweaves secret intelligence reports, newly-declassified military and diplomatic correspondence, and the terrorists’ own records boasting of their successes. His shocking account details a litany of Zionist terrorism against anyone in their way—the indigenous Palestinians, the British who had helped establish Zionism, and Jews who opposed the Zionist agenda.
Far from being isolated atrocities by rogue groups, the use of terror was deliberate and sustained, carried out or supported by the same leaders who then established and led the Israeli state. We are still living this The book proves that Israel's regime of Apartheid against the Palestinians and the continued expropriation of their country are not the result of complex historical circumstances, but the intended, singular goal of Zionism since its beginning.
Another banger from Thomas Suárez (author of the similarly excellent State of Terror: How Terrorism Created Modern Israel, 2016) about the Zionist theft of Palestine via bloodcurdling massacres and sneaking lies by treacherous bandits who knew full well what they were doing. The facts are once again impeccably sourced despite the nonacademic background of the author, which of course causes the Israelis and their tribal overseas partisans to scream and weep as usual whenever the truth gets out.
As I come to the end of this remarkable book, I can only wish its author all the best for his labour of love. It is not easy reading, of course, both because the material is detailed ,with copious notes at the end of the book and because it is a damning account of murder and terror , largely against the British but also of the duplicity and perfidy of the Zionists. Inspired by a crazed fanatical belief that the Land of Israel is theirs , the Zionists, long before the Holocaust, set out to wipe Palestine from the map and establish a State only for Jews. Ex-comrades-in-arms from the Jewish Brigade joined in terror attacks against the mandate 's police and armed forces. The Stern Gang/Lehi method was usually to shoot men in the back, with the occasional high-profile act such as the bombing of the King David hotel and the murder if two British sergeants left hanging for days - an officer who approached to cut down the bodies was injured by the booby-trapped body. The Zionist leaders, from Ben-Gurion down were aware of many of the repulsive details of this terror - they approved,or, as in the case of future prime ministers, Begin and Shamir, led the gangs. Mr Suarez has been through the archives and constructed a damning case , possibly daunting in its meticulousness for some readers. A more general history, perhaps his other book on the State Of Terror, might be an easier introduction to the subject. I have been unable to find a reasonably priced copy of that work and am glad to suppose that its first printing was sold out quite quickly [ somewhat surprisingly quickly, so one could think some bought multiple copies ?] As the book chronicles the almost daily acts of m terror against the "stinking British pigs" , it is late in it for the recounting of the most notorious act by the Zionist thugs , the murder of the UN mediator, Count Bernadotte in September 1948. I personally recall newsreels at the time, and have since articulated any decent person's reaction of horror and disgust. As well as the murder of an honest diplomat and his assistant , a crime of cowards, this also became an emblem of the contempt which true Zionists had and have for the UN and all it stood/stands for. Many ordinary people in the world hoped, briefly, that the UN would signal the coming of a more human world. Killing hope, not just of Palestinians, has been made a fine art by the Zionist fanatics such as Begin and, of course, the killer of Yitzhak Rabin. Only their Chosen People count, in a Jewish State which provides , as Weizmann told Mussolini, a "fulcrum" for the eventual Greater Israel, from the sea to the Euphrates. As for the "facts on the ground" today, the Jewish State is proceeding , with a good conscience, since this is all divinely ordained, it pretends, with the dispossession of Palestinians from their land. Sometimes ,so to speak,in by inch, in East Jerusalem and even close to the "outpost" settlements which are provisionally "illegal" even in Israeli law.Soon, one can expect mass take-overs, as the "West" [ i.e.the US and satellites like the UK] encourages the absurd ,would-be face-saving lie that it will map out a peace road so as to help the nicer Israeli leaders to a "Two-State Solution" !!! Mr Suarez traces the ongoing terror and killing of hope by the resurrected Mr Netanyahu ["never a Palestinian state on my watch ] and his ever-more- extreme pals of the Baruch Goldstein persuasion. Reports today of a Palestinian peace-activist being assaulted by a clean-cut all-Jewish young Israeli "soldier" have already been distorted by the local media and the minister, all so much in line with the history of the Irgun and Stern Gang, and, indeed, less openly by Mr Ben-Gurion and his cohorts of invaders. An informative and shattering book, to be read, not dismissed as "anti-Semitic",as has been done here by "reviewers"
“We have been taught to self-censor on behalf of Israel, because self-censorship leaves no trace.” Instead of Israel making ‘the desert bloom”, “it was the Palestinians that saved the Israeli state from stillbirth.” “Israel took over an intact ready-made country-homes, assets, money, orchards, quarries, 10,000 acres of vineyards, 25,000 acres of citrus groves, 10,000 business establishments, olive groves, and machinery.” “Palestine’s history of religious tolerance was erased from the common memory as Palestinian opposition to ethnic domination was framed as antisemitism.” “Jews were as integral to the cultural landscape of Arabian lands as Christians and Muslims, but Zionism enforced a strict dichotomy between Jews and all others in Palestine.” This book shows that complete absence of violence by Palestinians from 1940-1947, did nothing to help the Palestinians. The British even remarked about “Palestinian restraint”. Herzl dug through history to find Hebrew and resurrected it instead of Yiddish as “the settler’s native tongue.” “There was wide resistance to reviving an ancient language as the remedy.” The earliest map of Palestine is a woodblock from Northern Germany in 1475 (shown in the book p.19). Zionist Fantasy of Palestine as Naught but Lazy Arabs: By 1870, the Jaffa orange trade was exporting 38 million oranges. That’s a dozen years before the first Zionist settlers showed up.
The narrative uncovered by historians NOT on the Zionist paycheck is that Zionism is “determined to ethnically cleanse a land for itself. Two decades of scouring Zionist records led Ilan Pappe to conclude that “the ‘conflict’ was in truth settler-colonialism wrapped in elaborate mythology”. Deliberate depopulation through violence is terrorism; it doesn’t matter how it is accomplished.
A Zionist girl on page 172 walks from her taxi carrying three suitcases of high explosives into the Jerusalem train station’s “booking hall and abandoned the suitcases.” Pro-Zionist Winston Churchill was a target of Lehi letter bombs for the crime of condemning the Lehi assassination of Lord Moyne. Heck, even Harry Truman, who also sold out to Zionists, received Irgun letter bombs which “had obviously been intended to kill.” “A British official publicly acknowledged that no one in Palestine was safe against Zionist terror.” Funny how today US media only says Hamas is terrorist while only Zionists are innocent victims or cherubs. When Britain tried to rein in Zionists from obvious terrorism, The United Zionists – Revisionists of America ran an ad referring to the British “war of extermination on the Jewish people.” I picture the Zionist dictionary with “victim” defined as anyone who is Zionist, “terrorist” defined as anyone who is Palestinian, and any Jew found at Auschwitz or Treblinka found as a potential “victim” ONLY if they are easily swayed to Zionist over Judaism. “Then whole Zionist community is allied in spirit with the terrorists” reported the NYT in 1947.
Starvation as the New Black: In 2024, starving Gaza is suddenly the latest Israeli dance craze, but a century ago even Zionist hero “Herzl himself had proposed starving out the indigenous population” but said that it had to be “carried out discreetly”. Gosh, I wonder why? By 1907, you have a young David Ben Gurion organizing boycotts “in order to starve non-Jews from the land. Such a noble religious goal, starving innocent people because you covet their land. “The fundamental difficulty over Palestine was that the Jews refused to admit the Arabs were their equals.” – Ernest Bevin, April 1948.
Early Variations of Israel’s later Hannibal Directive a.k.a. Hating or Killing Your Own: At the beginning of the Holocaust, “Ben Gurion assailed attempts to save Germany’s Jewish children unless it was to Palestine. Rather than see all the children escape safely to England, he argued that it was better to let half of them to be slaughtered at the hands of Nazis in order to get the surviving half to be settlers in his colonial project.” The Lehi met with Italian fascists (p.61) in hopes that “the fascists would help Lehi destroy (‘liquidate’) all possible Jewish communities outside of Palestine and transfer their populations to Palestine – implicitly with or without their consent.” “Many Jewish Displaced Persons resisted the Zionists message, and so where persuasion failed, uncooperative DPs were shunned, their rations reduced, and in some cases subjected to violence.” The vigilantes of a different Jewish terror organization, Otsray Ha Magifa, “disfigured a disobedient Jewish girl with acid, leaving her blind in one eye.” “The shops of five Jewish merchants who refused to fund the Irgun were gutted with incendiary bombs on the 8th.” In 1946, Zionists gave some DPs the delightful choice of “Palestine or death.” One threatened Jewish non-convert likened it to Spanish Jews given the choice of conversion or death. Zionists were dispatched throughout Europe to make sure Jews were sent only to Palestine [p.132-3] – Rabbi Herzog worried that “Swiss Jews could not be relied on” to perform the kidnappings. Gosh, Swiss Jews didn’t want fellow Jews kidnapped? Herzog was frustrated by Holland because “during the war, the Dutch treated the Jews very well” and so he petitioned the government to forcibly remove the children. “In Herzog’s view these Jewish ‘assimilants’ were condemning the children to a fate more terrible than death.” What? Jews living peacefully with people of all religions? Egads! In the end, 500,000 Jews “were denied the options of new homes in modern, safe countries because of what Ernst called the Zionists ‘pet thesis’ - that Jews must be blocked from anywhere other than Palestine.” The UN in a black paper wrote that the Zionists formed “kidnapping rings for abducting [Jewish] children and taking them to Palestine.”
Zionists hating on fellow Jews Part Two: “In Tel Aviv the next day, the Irgun blew up the house of a Jewish woman who refused to finance them.” “A party of Jews entered a house near Haifa and beat up a Jewish civilian.” Beating or killing your OWN people – such compassion. The Jewish Anti-Terror League at this time accused the militants of “using the same methods” as the Nazis. “Young Jewish volunteers with money boxes swarmed through the streets of Haifa …blackmailing the public into buying rapidly produced [Zionist] flags for large sums of money.” “Names were taken of those few who refused.” In late February [1948], about 200 US citizens tried to board a ship in Haifa to begin their trip home, but since they were Jews the Haganah invaded the pier and began throwing their passports in the sea to stop them.” Idith Zertal showed how Holocaust survivors were maliciously used by Zionists: “Not only did the Zionist leadership make no effort to spare the refugees the appalling return to Germany; it actually took distinct steps toward preventing any solution other than Germany.” “In Israel, crowded dismal refugee camps greeted the approximately twenty thousand ex-Iraqi Jews ethnically cleansed by Israel.” Zionist mistreatment of Mizrahi Jews was revolting [p.316-319], spraying them with DDT, mass kidnappings, “infants taken from their mothers and given to Ashkenazi couples, while their parents were told the child had died.” Ben Gurion defended all this saying it was “better for a country to be homogeneous.” If anyone told you Hitler said that [and NOT Ben Gurion] we’d believe them.
Everyone likes hobbies” like macrame, stamp collecting, or ping pong – well, on 8/22/49, “Israeli soldiers machine-gunned dead a Bedouin man for sport as he fled in sport, unarmed , up a sand dune, killed six of the Bedouin’s camels and kidnapped a girl whose age was estimated between ten [and more likely] fifteen.” She then gets raped by three soldiers. “The girl was then gang-raped over a period of three days, at times leaving her unconscious.” “When they finished, they dug her grave right in front of her eyes before shooting her.” This 1949 story surfaced in Israeli and British press in 2003, where Hasbara quickly called it a one-off, even though it was clear those rapist/murderers were IDF soldiers – the “most” moral army in the world. One year later, in 1950, Ben-Gurion still referred to an IDF battalion as prone to ‘raping and murdering Arab girls’.” On March 16th, Israeli soldiers kidnapped three children, “the soldiers gang-raped both girls, then murdered all three children. When the villagers responded to the atrocity with an ambush on an IDF car, Israel mortared the village.” One woman in a kibbutz asked, “does this not remind us exactly of the Nazi acts towards the Jews?” Groups of Arabs were taken by bus [p.324] while deprived of water to a “completely uninhabited desert” and told to run, “As each party ran off into the darkness, bursts of fire were opened on them by the Jews.” “The interviewers described the spot as ‘one of the hottest, wildest, and most utterly desolate areas in the world, infested by snakes, wolves and hyenas.” Did I mention that some of these Arabs who walked through the desert had “teeth smashed off by rifle butts, hearing loss from beatings on the ears, and fingernails torn out.” Before reading this book, I thought the Nazis were the worst, now I think Zionists are strangely trying to catch up. If all these stories were attributed only to Nazi’s we’d be horrified and say, “Of course, that’s what they’d do!” Page 331 has a heart-warming story of an Israeli patrol that attacked “four unarmed Palestinians collecting brushwood near Hebron”, anyway: “the IDF had cut off their sexual organs, skinned their buttocks, stabbed their sides with bayonets and fired Sten gun rounds into their skulls.” Yep, keep telling yourself, the IDF is the most “moral” army in the world.
The Zionist terrorist groups Irgun, Lehi, Haganah and Stern killed far more people than Hamas ever did so let’s now look at them: The Times correspondent H.G. Daniels wrote of the Irgun that it was “a pretty extensive organization throughout Palestine formed on Nazi Lines.” In 1936, the terrorist Irgun was into grenades and gunfire; “Palestinian beach-goers remained a favored target for the next decade.” [I’m headed to the beach honey! Oh, are you going swimming, love? Nah, I’m going to shoot at Palestinian beach-goers. Ok, well, be home by dinner!] The Irgun was soon into bombing Palestinian buses, killing civilians beginning in 1937. Apparently, happily sharing a country with people of other races was for sissies. The acts of the Irgun were acts of terror, and “acts of persons who believe that the Jewish Kingdom will be created by force.” The Irgun felt that those Jews not into force were “Jews of the Ghetto, who are weak and faint-hearted [empathetic and kind] and not strong enough for this revolutionary period.” “The Irgun doused mined roads with gasoline and ignited them at the presence of a mobile patrol. Attacks were now so numerous that many merited only cursory mentions in British records.”
Haganah: Churchill creates the Jewish Brigade in 1944, even though his own military said to not do so. In 1948, then known as the Zionist terror organization Haganah, it becomes the IDF. In 1948, two weeks after the birth of Israel, two Haganah operatives were “caught putting two cans (from BenGurion’s laboratory) of bacteria, typhoid and dysentery into Gaza’s wells.” In early May, the Haganah injected typhoid into the aqueduct supplying water to the “Capri” spring that served Acre causing an epidemic that expedited the ethnic cleansing.” Notice how the “most moral army in the world” started as a terrorist organization [just like Zionists endlessly call Hamas today] – who knew? Takes one to know one. At the time of the Partition, Haganah membership was at about 70,000 to 90,000, there were 8,000 Irgun and 500 Lehi. A member of the socialist group Hashomer Hatzair eloquently said, “A Nazi is a Nazi, be he a Jew or otherwise, and it is a false sentiment of the Jewish people to condemn Nazism and condone Jewish fascism.”
The US learned their Sadistic Double Tap [now done by drone] from Zionists: In 1946, the Irgun, Haganah and Lehi committed terrorism against civilians where “as was their habit, the militants mined the approach road to blow up anyone coming to the victim’s aid” “which seriously hampered the bringing of medical assistance to the casualties.” “The attackers then waited by the side of the road for the first responder who happened to be a policeman: they killed him as well. [p.168]” Twenty-five “armed Jews entered Arab Sarwarkeh Encampment” opened fire “on the inhabitants” and “planted a land mine as they left to blow up first responders.” Murdering care givers – such a noble calling.
In this book you will hear many times of Zionist terrorists “dressed as Arabs”; “Jews dressed as Arabs held up a police guard while about 20 armed Jews blew up the bridge.” “He followed the device’s electric cable to a nearby orange grove, surprising its three authors, Irgun or Stern militants dressed as Arabs.” But by page 239, “One of the terror gangs’ favorite devices, disguising themselves as Arabs, has been overused.” Imagine no longer being able to play dress up to commit your terrorism and murder! So sad. And remember Zionists (posing as eternal victims) and not Palestinians, were the original Martyrs: “By April, however, the British ran out of ways of handing the Irgun a martyr. He was an engineered martyr.” “His impending ‘martyrdom’ had….”
And Zionists, NOT Palestinians, Were the First Stone Throwers: “Rioting continued the next day (1939) as one thousand settlers mobbed Zionist Square while others stoned non-Jewish traffic” (p.63). In 1945, Police in Tel Aviv “were attacked by a mob of 150-200 Jews who threw stones.” The same year, a policeman told a crowd they should not harbor a terrorist, “as he made his appeal, the crowd threatened him with stones, fresh supplies of which were brought to the scene in boxes.” Also in 1945, in Tel Aviv, “emergency crews attempting to reach the burning offices (British district offices) were stoned.” “When the police, under heaving stoning by a crowd of about 5,000, attempted to…” (p.123) “On the night of the 24th-25th, Jews opened fire with automatic weapons, rifles and hand grenades” at the Sidna Ali coast guard station. And on September 27th 1946, “a mob of about 400 Jews” stoned a Palestinian bus in Jaffa. Thank God they were Jews committing those acts of sadism and not Palestinians otherwise they might be considered terrorists. Ha ha.
Zionists today also love to prattle on about ONLY Hamas tunnels, but know that “some twenty Lehi operatives in the Latrun Detention Camp slipped to freedom through a 176-foot-long tunnel they had bored. After three months’ preparation, the terror organization was back in business.” “The Irgun, meanwhile, had been busy boring a tunnel to Army HQ in Tel Aviv.” “The 250-300 foot tunnel would give them a deadly advantage.”
Meanwhile during this time, the British military wrote of “Mukhtars of Arab villages visiting the adjacent Jewish settlements and insisting that they want to remain on friendly terms with their Jewish neighbors.” Funny how Zionists won’t mention Arab compassion and caring. The British wrote, The Arabs as a whole are loath to start hostilities.” Back in the US a crate headed to the Zionists in Palestine falls while loading, revealing Cyclonite; in this way the dock workers find 65,000 lbs of Cyclonite TNT and 5,200 combat knives. Oops…
Zionists Copying Hitler’s Youth Movement to the Tune of South Pacific’s, You Have to Be Carefully Taught: “Every boy of 16 years must join the Hagana. If he declines, his life at school is made unbearable. If parents object, they are encouraged to deceive them in secret obedience to the ‘call’.” The Director of MI5 called it a “militant Jewish Youth Movement” and said it “bears a striking resemblance both in general structure and character to the Hitler Youth Movement.”
Many anti-Semites are big fans of Zionism: “Anti-Semites are always very sympathetic to Zionism,” testified the president of the Anglo-Jewish Association. A British spy, Gertrude Bell wrote, “The French are anxious to establish Jews anywhere if only to have an excuse for getting rid of them.” Many Christian Zionists are clearly anti-Semitic but also love to label anti-Zionists as anti-Semitic. Dr. Ariel Altman, Chairman of Zionist group NZO, wrote that anti-Semitism must “form the foundation of Zionist propaganda.” He also acknowledged that US anti-Semites should be reminded that the settler project would mean “reducing the number of Jews” entering the United States. A 1943 NYT ad similarly threatened that unless Jewish DPs [displaced persons] had a “Jewish state in Palestine”, “America will face increasing pressure to open her doors” to the arriving hordes. If Israel defines itself as “THE” Jewish state, where is the place held today for Jews who don’t identify with the long history of Zionist fascism, racism, and exclusion? The author also reminds us of “Zionism’s need for anti-Semitism as a permanent state of humanity.”
Where do The Palestinians Go? Jewish MP Edwin Montagu, an MP and cabinet member, wrote, “How was it proposed to get rid of the land’s people and to introduce the Jews in their place?” Lord Curzon asked, “What is to become of the people of this country? They and their forefathers have occupied the country.” Of their future he said, “should they now act as merely hewers of wood and drawers of water” to the settlers? Even Lawrence of Arabia said, “Do the Jews propose the complete expulsion of the Arab peasantry, or their reduction to a day-laborer class?” Prime Minister Lloyd George got a message from the Jaffa Moslem Christian Committee asking, “What fault have we Palestinian Arabs committed? Release us from the Zionists greed which is increasing from day to day. Were we liberated by the Allies from the Turkish yoke to be put under the Zionist yoke?”
In private, Chaim Weizmann and Rothschild “treated the outright ethnic cleansing of non-Jewish Palestinians as indispensable to their plans.” Textbook settler-colonialism. Weizmann [who looked like Vladimir Lenin on acid] said that anyone opposed to his proposals were in his word, “anti-Semites.” Simply Delusional. Rothchild referred to it as “turning an Arab majority into a minority”. To achieve this Rothchild said there could be “no equal rights” for non-Jews.
If you have at any point supported the movement for Palestinian liberation, you need to read this book. Even if it’s just 5 pages a day, this book should be a required reading for anyone who believes in a free Palestine. It is impossible to truly comprehend the decades of brutality, violence, and murder committed by the Israeli state and its terrorist organizations.
What we have seen in the last year is 50 years in the making. Don’t let them erase these decades of violence. Educate yourself.
Is it terrifying to see how a nation persecuted turned up to be worse than their own persecutors. You would think Jewish people learned their lesson but no. They learned how to massacre and ethnically cleanse a nation that welcomed them in their land. Going thru page after page made me more and more discusted and outraged by the what we call now Israel. The real and most terrorist state of all time
This may be the most important book I have read in 2024. With meticulous detail, extensive endnotes, and a rich bibliography, Suarez describes the ongoing efforts of Zionist Jews to claim all of Palestine "from the river to the sea," including multiple acts of terrorism prior to 1948 directed against non-Zionist Jews, British civilians and military, Jewish and Palestinian civilians and law enforcement personnel both in Palestine and in Europe. Suarez also identifies numerous Israeli false flag operations after its establishment of the modern nation state, and lays significant blame for the evolution of Israeli hegemony on a weak UN, Zionists within both the British and US governments, and their failures to hold Israel accountable for its frequent and flagrant disregard for international will as it continued its ongoing quest to possess all of Palestine - and perhaps beyond.
For those of us who grew up hearing and heeding the myth of Israel as the innocent party always under threat, this book provides a troubling and stark presentation of another reality often hidden from view by Israel and by Western news sources systematically sympathetic to the Zionist cause.
This was a very informative and enlightening read. The documentation and citations are expansive and quite detailed. Although many sections were akin to reading a police blotter of atrocities without much framing, the sheer number of instances gives way to the gravity of the situation. Very dense and at times, extremely upsetting, but a necessary read to understand the history of violence committed against the Palestinian people.
If you, like me, have been trying to truly and fully fathom the history of Israel’s founding, THIS is the book. I know I've said that before about other books on the subject of Palestine and/or Israel, but this book specifically focuses on the who, why, and what if the actual founding, how it connects to the Halocaust, what Britain's role was, how zionism fits into it all and what zionism really is. It is heartbreaking and violent and reads a lot like Nazi Germany's treatment of the Jews for those 12 years of Hitler's reign.
It's very clear that everything in this book stands in stark contrast to the propaganda we've been fed for the past century by the current colonizing nations of the world; Israel included. But Suarez backs his claims up with so much detail that you want to skim over the atrocities. It's like a nightmare we can't wake up from. It is devastating to know that the horrors of the Halocaust only fueled the horrors of the next genocide.
If you can get your hands on this book, at least read the postscript. I listened to it on audiobook and can not find a library with a hard copy anywhere (and I have 3 counties to draw from) so I may have to buy one. The post script is clear and succinct, and I want to hold it in my hands.
Thomas Suarez, a London based historian and former resident of the West Bank delivers a meticulously researched scathing indictment and reexamination of mainstream accounts on the founding of the state of Israel and the Israel Palestine conflict. An incredibly well sourced, narrative - Suarez clearly mined existing archives, he submitted FOI requests and interviewed former participants on both sides of the conflict. He argues that Zionist militias systematically used terror tactics to establish and maintain control over Palestine—an approach that formed the foundations of what he characterizes as an apartheid settler state.
Rather than accidental or rogue acts, Suárez presents terror as deliberate and sustained, directed by prominent Zionist leaders—a case of strategic policymaking, not chaotic violence. His account spans atrocities committed against Palestinians, British authorities, and even dissenting Jews—framing violence as a central mechanism of state-building.
What was abundantly clear was that the Zionist’s used terror as a means to an end. Whether it was to push the British out by bombing cafes where they congregated, bombing markets, bombing railways, assassinating members of the military and so on. The British were forced to send their women and children out of Palestine for fear of being killed. Then once it was clear the British were ending the mandate and the zionists were getting a state, the Zionists shifted and started systematically targeting the Palestinian villages. They had been doing reconnaissance for years as they hiked the hills of Palestine. They kept meticulous records of the size of villages, who lived where etc so when they needed to expel residents they knew exactly what needed to be done where.
It was fascinating to learn that following the Arab revolt in 1936-1939, Arab violence was largely muted. Suarez dug up countless records from the British and CIA that described how the Arabs were keen not to respond to the terror as they knew the Zionists would use self defense to expel them from their homes.
Some examples throughout the book:
1937-1939: Irgun operatives planted bombs in crowded Arab markets, including a July 1938 Haifa attack that killed dozens. The targets were civilian gathering places with no direct military function. Suárez describes these attacks as early examples of indiscriminate terror to provoke chaos and communal fear.
Nov 1940: The Haganah planted explosives on the Patria to prevent its deportation of Jewish refugees to Mauritius. The ship sank rapidly, killing 267 refugees. Suárez underscores the event as both a tragic miscalculation and an example of the underground’s willingness to use explosives in politically motivated sabotage.
Nov 1944: Two Lehi gunmen assassinated Lord Moyne, the British Minister of State in the Middle East, outside his residence in Cairo. Moyne’s killing shocked British leadership and soured relations with the Zionist movement. Suárez cites it as evidence of the Zionist underground’s willingness to kill high-ranking officials to influence political outcomes.
1945-47: Zionist underground groups conducted kidnappings, assassinations, and bombings of British officials, police posts, and military facilities. These attacks were often coordinated to coincide with political debates over Britain’s Palestine policy. Suárez highlights this campaign as sustained political violence aimed at forcing British withdrawal.
Nov 1945: Coordinated units from the Haganah, Irgun, and Lehi sabotaged over 150 railway targets and British naval patrol boats. The operation disrupted transportation across Palestine. Suárez treats it as a key moment in the organized insurgency designed to undermine British authority through large-scale infrastructure attacks.
July 1946: Irgun operatives planted explosives in the basement of the King David Hotel, which housed the British administrative headquarters for Palestine. The blast killed 91 people—Britons, Arabs, and Jews—and injured dozens more. Suárez presents it as a calculated attack designed to cripple British governance and instill fear, rather than an unplanned escalation.
May 1947: Irgun fighters stormed the Acre prison to free underground members held by the British. The operation involved explosives, coordinated assault, and diversionary tactics killing dozens. Suárez presents it as both a propaganda victory and a terrorizing show of force against the Mandate’s control.
July 1947: Irgun kidnapped two British sergeants, Clifford Martin and Mervyn Paice, in retaliation for the execution of Irgun members who had been convicted of terrorism. The captives were hanged, and their booby-trapped bodies were left for the British to find. Suárez notes the event’s calculated aim of instilling fear and humiliation in the British authorities.
Jan 1948: Haganah forces blew up the Semiramis Hotel in the Katamon neighborhood, claiming it housed Arab irregulars. The blast killed dozens of civilians, many of them Christians. Suárez points to the attack as part of a broader campaign of targeting civilian infrastructure to destabilize Arab communities.
Apr 1948: Irgun and Lehi forces attacked the Arab village of Deir Yassin, killing over 100 residents, including majority women and children. The atrocity was widely publicized and caused mass panic, contributing to large-scale Palestinian flight. Suárez frames it as deliberate psychological warfare to clear territory for Jewish settlement.
Sep 1948: Lehi members ambushed and killed UN mediator Count Folke Bernadotte, along with French military observer Colonel André Serot. Bernadotte had proposed changes to the UN Partition Plan, which Zionist leaders opposed. Suárez interprets the murder as an act of political terror meant to eliminate diplomatic obstacles to the new state’s territorial aims.
1948: Zionist/Israeli military units captured groups of Palestinian Arabs—sometimes men suspected of resistance, sometimes entire families—transported them to remote desert areas such as the Judean or Negev desert, and abandoned them without food or water. In some documented incidents, prisoners were left in the Jordanian desert east of Beersheba or southward toward Sinai, with many dying of exposure and dehydration.
July 1948: After Lydda (Lod) and Ramle were captured, ~50,000–70,000 Palestinians were expelled east on foot in peak summer heat; contemporary and later accounts (including Ari Shavit’s reconstruction and Israeli/Palestinian archival work) describe deaths from exhaustion and dehydration along the route. While numbers of the dead vary by source, the “death march” conditions are well attested in standard references
June 1950: Jordan’s Arab Legion reported finding 28 survivors (including 4 children) who said an original group of 100+ Palestinians had been seized by Israeli soldiers and abandoned in the desert; the survivors reached the Wadi Dhahal police post “exhausted, dehydrated, and abused.” Thomas Suárez has posted the case summary and photo notes (from UK National Archives files) and reproduces the episode in his earlier book State of Terror (see the “Wadi Araba” section and the photo caption “Group just found being given water by Arab Legion patrol”).
1949-53: Research synthesizing Israeli, UN, and regional documentation estimates ~17,000 Bedouins were driven out of the Negev during these years—many pushed into Sinai or the West Bank, with exposure risks inherent to desert crossings; rights groups and journalists have surfaced planning documents and legal filings showing the policy intent to “empty” large parts of the Negev of its Arab population. (These expulsions are not all single named “affairs,” but a series of removals; several ended with people stranded in desert zones.)
1959-51: A series of bombings targeted Jewish sites in Baghdad between April 1950 and June 1951, including cafés, a synagogue, and a library. No mass casualties occurred in most blasts, but the attacks created fear within Iraq’s Jewish community at a time when Zionist agents were encouraging emigration to Israel. Lo and behold, the Zionist militias were behind said false flag attacks and the bombings coincided with Operation Ezra and Nehemiah, in which over 120,000 Iraqi Jews emigrated to Israel.
1953: Israeli military forces under Ariel Sharon’s command attacked the village of Qibya, killing 69 civilians and demolishing 45 houses. The raid was described by Israel as a reprisal for earlier cross-border attacks. Suárez interprets it as an extension of pre-state terror tactics into official military policy.
After the ceasefire, Palestinians regularly crossed the armistice line to tend their olive and orange trees. Ben gurion had ordered shoot to kill orders for anyone that crossed said line. So many times children were killed for picking oranges in their families orchard they had tended for generations.
This represents a small fraction of the terror attacks carried out but should provide a flavor. And frankly their approach to running a state has carried through to today.
“Ethnic cleansing, apartheid, and the acquisition of territory by force are not disagreements to be mediated. They are crimes to be stopped.” Astounding and heartbreaking history lesson of Zionist genocide in Palestine and the US/British abetting of it at every turn. Beware that the author’s research is so thorough and detailed that the book becomes mind numbing to slog through, but in some ways that’s a compliment.
A powerhouse chronicle of facts that explain the source of violence in Palestine. It is a must-read for anyone wanting to understand the ongoing genocidal acts of Israel today.
It is distressing to know about the horrors inflicted on Jews by the Nazis, and then read about the further tragedy inflicted upon them by the Zionists both during and after WWII. This book is extremely thorough in its coverage of events, and notes/references support stories and events that seem unbelievable.
The sheer number of terrorist attacks by Zionist gangs is unbelievable, but more surprising is that most of the deaths up to 1948 were of Jews and not Arabs or Christians as would be expected.
If one was not sure that Zionism does not equal Judaism, then this book removes all doubt.
This was a really challenging read that was often heart breaking and infuriating. I recommend it for anyone looking to better understand the genocide happening in Palestine and see its true Zionist beginnings, over 100 years ago.
Thomas Suárez' volume is the definitive account of the depopulation of Palestine from the British colonial era to the present. If this sounds like a North American parallel, there's good reason, with these differences: the demographic disparity, and its continuation. What's now happening is a final solution in tragic domino effect from all coming before.
All the tropes that Israel has used to justify its "bulldozing operation" were also present from the start: "They are attacking us," "we must defend ourselves," "we want peace but they don't," etc. Backing someone in a corner and forcing them to run or fight does not always produce the desired outcome, and if the cornered choose resistance they become the aggressor: classic doublethink.
Suárez recounts how European immigrants of Jewish heritage pulled off the greatest mindfark in history: how they are the natives, and the native-born are rightless "illegals." How also Israel was founded upon ruthless terrorist violence. Many Holocaust survivors were not the saintly elders we've come to know; many refugees from the ghettoes and camps had become embittered survivalists who may have immigrated penniless, but brought plenty of stored hatred in steerage.
There's no doubt that if Palestine had been settled primarily by Mideastern Jews in 1917, the result would have been different. Instead a religious/nationalist cause quickly became a race war not out of place in the East St. Louis of 1917. My criticisms of this magnificent tome are twofold: more time is spent on Zionist attacks on the British than I feel necessary, as Britain's presence was never going to be anything but transitory.
The second is that the differences between Palestine Arabs is downplayed. The Zionists won because they could exploit these fissures: most Palestinians did not want war and clung to peace until too late. Suárez does note that this lack of provocation did frustrate the victim card on several occasions. He also dispels the notion of "Arab fascism" as a unifying force in WW II.
Evidence is again presented for what scholars like Ilan Pape have maintained for years: the ethnic cleansing of the real indigenes was baked in from the beginning, despite noises about equality on the land and room for everyone. This would be possible as long as the demographic ratio is 90% Us and 10% Them.
Israel was, in essence, a big real estate swindle and still is. As long as there's money around it can buy what it wants; once there's a state it can claim eminent domain. Suárez does not adequately explore these "quiet" foundations because the eye-catching violence has been - and still is - spectacular like a Hollywood Biblical epic. Read it while you can: I'm sure it's banning is coming to a library or book store near you.
For some reason, there appear to be relatively few books that focus on Zionist terrorism in the pre-mandate era (as opposed to the wealth of literature on the Nakba, for example). This book certainly fills that gap.
Suarez meticulously documents the astonishing quantity of Zionist terror attacks on the Palestinian, the British and, incredibly, on Jews themselves (including Holocaust survivors!). His work is infuriating as it describes the arrogance and the impunity of the Yishuv’s leadership as they kill and destroy without shame or remorse, in the name of creating a homogenous Jewish state.
One clear theme is that the invocation of antisemitism against anyone and everyone who says anything against Zionism or Zionists is nothing new. In fact, the fear of that word is what prevented the British from forcefully suppressing Zionist terror by the same brutal means used against the Palestinians during their uprising from 1936-39. With the Palestinians, the British would demolish the houses of anyone suspected of violence. With the Zionists, they would follow a suspect’s trail to the gates of a Jewish settlement and then abandon the chase, too timid to force their way in to arrest anyone. Why? Because after the war, broke as the UK was, it needed American support and loans and Westminster knew that any action it took would trigger accusations of antisemitism in the US, which would result among other things in their loans being called in.
There are numerous jaw dropping passages in this book, but the one that stands out described Churchill siding with Israel against his own country after they downed British planes to keep them from carrying out surveillance. Churchill, of all people! It boggles the mind.
There is at times such a strong case made that one wonders if the author might be omitting something that could weaken his argument. But many of the horrors he describes have no plausible defence and so it seems very unlikely that the argument is unsound. I’ve also not found any serious debunking of the book’s main claims or of its thesis.
I can’t recommend this book highly enough to anyone interested in this period of history.
I wasn't quite sure how to rate this book. On the one hand, it is extensively well researched and contains important information that has been overlooked in the entirety of my life learning about Israel. This is information that everyone should know, how the Israeli state and zionism mastered propaganda to commit atrocities that would be immediately be framed as war crimes under any other circumstances, while framing themselves as the victims. In addition, the fact that they blocked Jewish refugees from WWII from going anywhere but Israel is horrific as well. There was a lot I didn't know and this book is chock full of information. However, there were some long sections that just read like police blotters, and it didn't grab me. I know I've said that about a lot of books recently, so maybe my attention span is just slipping. Either way, this is full of important information and I can't believe how much Israel has gotten away with.
This meticulously researched and documented text describes in painful detail the incessant terrorism and violence inflicted by early Zionist extremists against not only Palestinians but also (especially) Israeli Jews deemed noncompliant, as well as the British. AND this happened with the tacit approval and nonintervention of early Zionist leaders; some of the terrorists even became some of the new state's first leaders. The book continues with the apartheid plans and continuous sabotage of leaders who never intended to share any of the land with the indigenous inhabitants they were cyclically displacing/cleansing. This is information USA-ians must learn because we have been paying for this for decades, including the horrors we are watching now. As you can imagine, there are detractors because this is fully documented truthtelling at its finest. Truths that disintegrate our mythologies can be very painful.
Thomas Suarez has done incredibly difficult but important work in writing this book. I can only imagine the hundreds of hours of research he put into it. His argument, that Zionists established a calculated, intentional operation to use terror to enact ethnic cleansing and apartheid in Palestine that continues today, is very logical and persuasive. I do not read "history" books, so I am no authority to thoroughly review this one other than to say that it was easy for me to follow and any sources I chose to check up on were clearly legitimate (I say this because Zionists love to claim sources are false or misleading).
"A state or political movement cannot claim self-defense when putting down the resistance to its own violence-otherwise all aggression would self-justify. It was British and Zionist terrorism that dictate the course of events in Palestine between world wars, Zionist terrorism that dictated events during the war and pre-state years and it is Israeli state terrorism that has dictated events since 1948. "
The United States needs to stop being complicit in Israel's genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.
This is updated version of Thomas Suarez hard to get 2017 "State of Terror- How Terrorism Created Modern Israel".
"Palestine Hijacked" can be purchased now directly from publisher: Barnes&Noble. Absolute must read about abomination called ZIONISM, that essentially was, and still is, a copy of Nazism.
The original 2017 book is not even listed with English title on 'Goodreads'. It is only in Arabic..shame. Search here for Thomas Suarez and you will find this Arabic version and my review there. Thomas Suarez website is worth to check as well. He is truth teller like Norman Finkelstein.
You can get everything about Palestine on internet. The history, the land, the people of Palestine, from just a simple click...everything displays before your eyes.
But, what about the story, the occupation. Can you find any as detailed as described in this book? Mr. Suarez wrote every single information about the occupation in Palestine, the root cause of what had happened, the purpose, the reasons and everything that related to the ethnic cleansing of the people of Palestine.
"This is a book of history written to influence the present. It is written in the belief that knowledge of the past will contribute toward today's collective efforts to bring peace to all Palestine, from river to the sea. History has the power to pierce the opaque narratives that hide the truth to perpetuate injustice".
