I enjoyed the heck out of this. I liked the art and use of color. I appreciated the sibling affection and inter-generational discord. There is little bit of background romance and I liked that it wasn't sullied by needless cheating to give the story artificial grit. There's diversity and appropriate use of mental health services to address the result of generational trauma.

I did think that the introduction of the villain was abrupt and I could have done with a little more backstory. The mother's role was never defined in any significant way and the kaiju just exist; we're not told anything about them. All of this could have been improved with a little more length and time to unfurl. All in all, however, I'll call this one a winner. If you're at all into the mecha genre, check this out.

Ngl I was really thinking “Attack on Titan” because of the title, I’m probably gonna say this in every book title with the word “Titan” xD

But actually it’s more like a mixture of Transformers, Evangelion and Escaflowne which looks pretty good art wise but it’s pretty predictable and too short of fights. Now I will say Kit as a main character was interesting enough to want more from them to kick mysterious bad guy ass. Wasn’t keen on the ending either but throughout the whole story not a bad read to waste time on….

“It’s going to come at you fast, and you’re going to freeze.” For Kit Hobbs, fighting monsters is the family business. But facing unexpected responsibilities she didn’t want is only the beginning. It’s salvaging her family that’s truly going to be the challenge.

Kit Hobbs' family has been piloting mechs that protect the city from monsters for generations. She has walked away from the family business until, an accident occurs. Kit returns home to help her brother who has a spiraling addiction problem and is threatening to explode while, her father is controlling her every move. Will Kit be able to control her family while, saving the city from monsters?

The graphic novel was a quick and easy read. The story line was easy to follow along. There wasn't any humor unfortunately. I do wish that there was more world building and backstory regarding the monsters and Kit's family. If you like graphic novels with mechs, you would enjoy this easy to read graphic novel.

This review is technically two days late for the book tour but the mail didn’t deliver it until I was out of town worrying about an event I was hosting in town. But thank you to the author, publisher, and rockstar book tours for making this possible. I really enjoyed this graphic novel, think Shameless meets Iron Man in my opinion. You would really enjoy this book if you love those shows. The sapphic romance was a plus as well! I cannot wait to read more books in this series and keep up with all of other works they write.

I’m a sucker for anything robot-vs-kaiju ever since the first “Pacific Rim” flick. This story is a unique take on that genre, but it isn’t as fleshed out as I would have liked. I think the focus on the family that controls the mech is a wonderful area to delve into and this story does it decently but too quickly. There was enough relationships and stories that could have double the length of this graphic novel and really made the reader connect to the characters and their struggles. It’s still a nice quick read, but I wish they have made it longer and more in depth.

Sci-fi elements aside, this is a story about a dysfunctional family at the breaking point. Generations of fighting kaiju have left the Hobbs family a mess; so much so that the local government could take away their private family business of protecting New Hyperion.

This family drama is what makes this comic engaging. The different ways each of the family members deal with their trauma (substance abuse, over-compensation, running away, etc.) are what makes all of them so empathetic.

My only real issue with this comic is the world-building. The giant robots vs kaiju aspect of the story is very surface level; there’s a lack of history to this world that leads to plot confusion when new sci-fi elements pop up.

This was not good. It was a lifetime family drama / pacific rim mash up and it was just . .. i dont know , NOT GOOD

Like its one of those stories when your like “why did you take the time to copy paste this shit?”

I only gave it a 2 ⭐️ with the assumption that a real human wrote this and not A.I.

This is a family drama about a family that operates the mech that protects a city from Kaiju. The story is in media res so you only get dropped contextual clues about the larger picture of what's going on but that's OK. It just leaves an opportunity for more stories which I'd love to see. Kit is estranged from her family because her parents are hardasses. But her brother who actually operates the mech is spirally out of control and she needs to come home. The art is really good. The story is interesting. What more can you ask for.

For the full review read my article on my site.

Family is at the heart of We Ride Titans. Somehow, writer Tres Dean manages something nearly impossible, making a story about giant robots fighting giant monsters where the main draw is its characters and their relationships, with the spectacle in service of their personal story.
