HOWEVER....while I'm a huge fan of themed events or activities that tie into fandoms, this just wasn't my style. I get why it was the way it was. Perhaps it will appeal differently to others. Enjoy if you like.
I was pleasantly surprised at the thoughtfulness that went into this book. The recipes look delicious, and the activities are for all ages, with adult supervision for the younger kiddies. More advanced children or teenagers could probably do the activities without supervision.
The organization and themed chapters can be incorporated into lesson plans. Images are clear and professional, but I wished it had included some images with the instructions. Without prior knowledge of craftsmanship, some of the activity's instructions may be difficult. In other words, don't expect your projects to look exactly like the ones in the book! But it's all in the fun!
While it contains recipes, activities, and art projects, it also provides insight into the Star Wars series on a spiritual/moral level. I feel this makes it stand out from books in the same genre.
I looked forward to this book, and I was disappointed. There are some good things in it, but they’re overshadowed by the negatives.
-With the “everyday” in the title, I expected an entry for, you know, every day, even if some were simple things like inspirational Star Wars quotes. Turns out there are only 6-7 entries per month, and some of these are compilations of others with no new content (ie “have a Star Wars birthday party and do x, y, and z from elsewhere in this book”).
-Too many typos and some actual Star Wars lore errors. I know this isn’t a reference book and Ashley Eckstein isn’t perfect, but this is why we have editors. At least theoretically; Star Wars publishing seems largely not to employ them anymore.
-There is one picture per activity. Even things with complicated steps like a sewing project. You just have to look at the finished project, read the steps, and try to intuit what you’re supposed to do and hope it looks right.
-The last activity actually tells you to go buy a book and cut it up to paste pictures on a coaster. Yes, this gets its own sin point.
There’s something in this book for Star Wars fans of all ages! My husband is the Star Wars nerd in our house and I got a kick out of watching him get a kick out of some of the clever names for the activities and recipes.
Things you’ll find here: -Arts and crafts for the whole family to make -Home decor -Selfcare rituals -Mental, emotional, and physical exercises -Recipes -Games to play -and ✨more✨
I only deducted one star because a large majority of the book is very family-with-children oriented, but -as a former preschool teacher- most of the children I know would turn their noses up at a lot of the recipes in this book.
Ashley Eckstein is the cutest. I love Ahsoka (once we got past that whole "Snips" thing I was hooked.) Ashley is a big old dork like me, and I love her passion for her craft and the fans. That being said, I wasn't smitten with this book? I don't feel like I can give it a stellar review just because it's from Ahsoka, you know? I can't really tell who the audience is. Sometimes it feels like it's for kids. Sometimes it feels like it's for adults. It's sweet but not amazing. I do not recommend purchasing it until you've had a chance to peruse it, because it's a hefty price tag for a large hardcover volume that I really can't see myself using on a regular basis, unfortunately.
First line of the book: "Star Wars entered the world in 1977 when Star Wars: A New Hope premiered in theaters, and it has endured for more than 50 years because of what it means to people."
More than 50 years??? This must be a time traveling book because it's currently 2022 which is a mere 45 years since 1977, certainly not 50 plus years. 🧐
Despite this entertaining typo/flub on the very first line of the book, it is full of a lot of fun ideas for a Star Wars fan!
