For a show about “nothing” one constant throughout Seinfeld’s nine seasons is food! Jerry, Elaine, Kramer, George, and the whole gang are always talking about food, shopping for food, or grabbing a bite in Monk’s coffee shop! There are contemplations on the black and white cookie, the Big Salad, proper (or improper) shrimp cocktail etiquette, an irresistible soup stand, lobster revenge omelets, the proper ranking of babka varieties, mouthwatering mackinaw peaches, and so much more. Now these culinary comedy classics are celebrated with a variety of recipes that will help any Seinfeld fan relive their favorite moments.

A good mix of actual food items from the show (e.g. the trash eclair, a variety of soups, babka and marble rye, the black and white cookie, the biiiiiiiiiiig salad, the Steinbrenner calzone, Elaine's muffin tops, etc.) and fancier items based on plotlines or simpler foods (a roast beef sandwich inspired by Puddy's love for Arby's, bacon-wrapped dates to represent all of the women Jerry dates, a Snickers-inspired cake from the episode where George and Mr. Pitt eat Snickers with a knife and fork, etc.). My one nitpick is that I wish that it had said what episode the foods were from--I mean sometimes it's literally in the name of the episode but other times it'd be nice to have a specific reference point. Good photographs and fun to read, as it's clearly written by someone who loves the show.
This cookbook was way more than I expected!! I’m a Seinfeld fanatic and that’s why I had to buy it without caring or knowing what was inside. (Ordered online after someone posted they had one.) It’s so clever and engages you on every page! Buy it or no soup for you!
This cookbook is a ridiculous concept, but Seinfeld is so omnipresent in our lives (I find myself quoting it at least once a day, there’s one for every occasion) that I found myself laughing through the whole thing after I received it as a Festivus gift. The ones that are directly from the show are decent (I was impressed with Kramer’s Peterman Reality Tour Pizza Bagels), and the ones that are more “inspired” by the show are very fun, such as Jerry’s “dates” and Fusilli Jerry pasta. Enjoyable!
As someone who really loves Seinfeld, I knew I had to have this cookbook! My husband and I flipped through this book and we can't wait to make some of these recipes in here.
Thanks to Goodreads and the publisher for this awesome giveaway win.
The Sigil (Episode 16) Kramer is cursed by a swamp hag to vomit forever. He begs Jerry for the sweet release of death, but Jerry is worried it may lead to a more permanent arrangement (ghost Kramer). George wants to break up with his girlfriend for her actions in the Balkans, but is worried he may become her next target.
I'm not a fan of sitcoms or comedy shows, but Seinfeld is the exception to the rule.
Never has a show about nothing applied so much to real life. Seriously!
I was stoked when I saw Seinfeld: The Official Cookbook was coming out.
It had occurred to me that the fabulous foursome did spend a lot of time in the coffee shop, or eating, or having meals together.
This is a great collection of recipes culled from the most memorable episodes of the show, including the marble rye Jerry throws up to the George, the Soup Nazi, the big salad George demanded credit for, and the apple pie Jerry's date refused to eat at Monk's for some inexplicable reason.
Each recipe brings back a hilarious memory of the episode itself.
One recipe that wasn't included (unless I missed it) was the vintage cake Elaine eats from J. Peterman's fridge.
Some of the recipes are ridiculously simple and basic and requires no time at all to prepare; others require more thought and effort.
But, no matter what dish you're interested in recreating, the recipe will be sure to make you laugh all over again as you recount the antics from that particular episode the meal is from.
A beautifully designed cookbook with photos and stories relating to the Seinfeld TV show. Recipes are ones talked about and eaten in the show, such as George's Bedroom Pastrami and Puffy Shirts Pastry Tarts. Sections are relating to the show also: No Soup For You, Monk's Cafe, and Takeout. Recipes are all beautifully photographed and easy to follow. The couple of recipes I tried were delicious.
It's a fun book. I really doubt I will prepare any of the recipes in the book except maybe the Black and White Cookies. Problem was the recipe was not as clear as I would hope when it came to the frosting preparation, it was almost as if they left out a section. I loved Seinfeld and the book brought back all kinds of giggles--chocolate or cinnamon babka?, The Really Big Salad. Great Fun.
An adequate cookbook with mostly classic recipes. A fanatic Seinfeld fan may want to add this to their collection. I had hoped that there would be more"Seinfeld" trivia and tidbits to go along with the recipes, especially since none of the recipes really come from the show. Also, I think a good cookbook should have a picture of each recipe listed in the book. Not the case here.
Seinfeld has been, and still is my husband's favorite sitcom. I was thrilled when I won this on a Goodreads giveaway. Although I didn't recognize all the foods, my husband remembered all of them, and the other side stories for each episode. We will be trying some of the recipes for sure!
Got this cookbook for Christmas and I love it! The recipes are great, some are direct from the show and others are inspired by. Everything looks do-able (except that marble rye looks real complicated) A great gift for any Seinfeld fan.
Love this book, if you were a fan of Seinfeld, you will love this book. But, in fact all the recipes are clear and easy to make. Wonderful book to cherish the show.
