Mash and his friends face their toughest challenge yet, as they confront the mastermind behind the evil plot to destroy the Magic Academy. The volume features some of the most epic battles in the series, as well as some of the most heartwarming moments.

MASHLE: Magic and Muscles is a popular manga series published in Shonen Jump that follows the story of Mash Burnedead, a magicless protagonist in a world full of magic. The manga is a comedy with a vibe akin to a mashup of One Punch Man and Harry Potter. The story is set in a world where magic is everything, and those who don’t possess it are considered weak. Mash, however, is an exception to this rule. He has no magical abilities but makes up for it with his incredible physical strength. The series is known for its unique blend of humor, action, and fantasy elements, making it a must-read for fans of the genre. The series has been praised for its engaging storyline, well-developed characters, and stunning artwork. It has also been adapted into an anime series, which has been well-received by fans.

MASHLE: Magic and Muscles is a hilarious and action-packed manga that is sure to delight fans of shonen manga. The series features a lovable cast of characters, epic battles, and plenty of humor. If you're looking for fun and entertaining read, MASHLE is worth checking out!

What a masterpiece! Mashle is sooooo good!
Love Mash’s confidence in himself and in his muscles!
Mash trying to pass his classes and having his friends help tutor him is heart warming.
Finn encouraging Mash is just beautiful.
Anytime Mash wants to go home or be “reclaimed by the earth” it is very relatable and always has me laughing.
Dot asking if he was too petty kills me!
Dot playing card games 💯
Dot acting as Mash’s agent to a mob and flipping them off while telling them to go to hell may be me new favorite Dot moment, and Dot has a lot of great moments.

Best quotes:
✨“But I can see you can put in the effort on occasion.”
Not only do we have Lemon, but now we have Macaron saying they are Mash’s family and I love it.
✨”Did I loan you money?” “It was more important than money.” “So… like a cream puff?”

"I'm letting the earth reclaim me."

MASHLE continues its Harry Potter parody with a barely-concealed Tri-Wizard Tournament analogue. As per the quick pace of past arcs, our new villain takes care of a whole schools' worth of new characters in order to reduce things to just Easton versus the evil school. Or... Kind of? The tournament is supposed to have three students each from three schools, but the bad guys usurp the slots to give themselves six members, which leads to Easton sending three more of their own students, leading to something like how Yusuke and the gang gained Chu, Jin, Rinku, &c., as allies late in the Dark Tournament of Yu Yu Hakusho. Or maybe just like the sand trio helping Konoha's students against Kimimaro and his buddies? (That's probably the closer reference point, anyway...)

The humor within this book is executed from that of a comedian and it really adds an amazing flavor to each and every volume of this book series! To this point in the series, we have been amazed by Mash's ability to overcome even the toughest odds...and while he continues to amaze the school with his strength and confidence...his greatest trial is revealed (at least to this point) .... passing his exams!!! Friends chip in hard to help to avoid his expulsion from school...but will it be enough? Mash continues to face off against those who would not acknowledge him because of his inability to use magic. The discrimination is something I feel happens in the world and so is a parallel to life in general when you are not like everyone else. Another solid and enjoyable volume!

Harry Potter but make it anime! Say less!

Once again trying to finish a show that’s not out yet! Just as funny as the show and a super quick read!

Synopsis via IMDb: Set in a magical world in which an individual's position within society are defined by the power and skill with magic, Mash Burnedead is a young man without so much as an ounce of magic in his blood. In order to live a peaceful life with his adoptive father, Regro, Mash will need to become a Divine Visionary, a title which is only given to exceptional students from the Easton Magic Academy. Despite having no magic whatsoever, Mash goes to the magic school, determined to survive and show the world that muscles can beat magic.

As this series borrows a lot of tropes from another series of books about a magic school with magical students, we have a Tri-Wizard tournament plot. Of the 3 magic schools, the Innocent Zero send a mole to one and he will be their entry. He destroys students from the third school to make room for more of his followers. Mash, however, has made friends at Eaton who are willing to fight along side him and for him. They volunteer to enter as well and even the odds.
There was a lot of set up in this volume with some backstory for some of our newer characters and overall a really great launch into the next major chapter.

WE HAVE ON-PAGE CONFIRMATION OF A NONBINARY CHARACTER!!!!!!!

That aside, the rest of the manga was so good. The plot progression was great, the fights were dope as fuck as usual, the calmer moments were fun as well, and watching Lemon and Dot try to protect Mash's name was comedy gold. And, of course, the little volume extras were so much fun, especially since Rayne and his bunnies make a return. That never gets old.

Not much else to say, this was another amazing volume. 10/10 would recommend.

So many good moments in this volume ;-; We got a beach day, an adorable study chapter, met a bunch of new friends and foes,

I'm really excited to see where we go from here! And I really love how tight-knit Mash and his friend group have become. Watching Dot and Lemon especially stand up for him in this volume touched my heart. Above all, the messaging of this story is really strong, which imo makes up with some of the shakiness of the worldbuilding at times. I love it!

Mashle is really funny, I laugh all the time, but I'm also confused about what all is going on. The story is written at a really fast pace. This is a nice change from how drawn out some manga series seem, yet it's so fast I feel like we jump from one thing to the other and I forget where we are and who all the enemies are. A lot of people and they all wear robes...

So, I'm not sure if I'll continue on. Maybe I'll wait for the series to grow a bit and then binge read.

Stuck with this series throughout everything in the hopes that it would eventually shed the reference points that it's indebted to in favor of the author's own ideas. Unfortunately, it continues to be a tepid mob psycho/harry potter riff, adding nothing worthwhile to justify its existence. I guess this kind of thing isn't unprecedented, Fairy Tail was a huge success in spite of being the Chek Cola to One Piece's Coke.

That said, it's just readable enough for me to not stop.

After taking a short break in the wake of fending off Innocent Zero, Mash and his friends are called in for candidate interviews, where a Divine Visionary attempts to eradicate him before he can pass onto the trischool competition - one soon filled with rival students that will kill anyone in their ways! Komoto will keep fans hooked with an intense entry, a enjoyable balance of tension and chuckles. Will Mash make it to the next phase of the Divine Visionary tests in one piece?

Things are really heating up for Mash in this volume.
Lots of laughs and more over the top muscles over magic that we've come to expect with this series.
More Harry Potter themes continue.
We get some more backstory that seems weird, but this has never been a serious series.
I liked it better than volume 8 and plan to continue reading the series.

Mashle continues to be an absolute treat. The mix of humor plus more serious plot points work extremely well. Mash continues to be a pure ray of sunshine who believes in his friends. This volume introduces members of the third magical school who place power as the most important thing in the world. I am looking forward to how Mash proves their lust for power wrong in future volumes.

Slow build from previous. Minor world building.

You knew this set would be a little slower given the action of the previous set. There is some good execution of skills from divine visionaries and future prospects as well as some backstory for our hero and villain but some of the combat was a bit muddy with overpowered moves and summons.

I've now reached the halfway point of the series, and Mash's world has started to expand even further beyond the walls of Easton. We are getting close to the end of the Divine Visionary exam and Mash and his classmates are facing off with the candidates from Walkis. Mash, Lance, and Dot are representing Easton in the final exam, with Wahlberg putting his faith in Mash getting the title, much to the chagrin of the general public. Mash may have won over his schoolmates and some of the Divine Visionaries, but he still has to deal with the prejudice and backlash from society as a whole. It was certainly an exciting volume, and I really enjoyed getting to meet all of these new characters and getting more of a taste of the greater magical world.

That being said, I feel like there are two major issues with this volume, as fun as it was. For one, Komoto tried to cram a lot of important events into one volume, and although it was fine for the most part, it made the pacing of the story seem off. Mash and his friends jump from place to place with little transition between them while the story is also being interjected with various flashbacks and character backstories. During Mash's interview at the Bureau of Magic we never even got to have an intervie, which made the whole thing rather pointless. I did like the fight Mash had with Orter Madl, but it got ended by Renatus Revol who just let Mash go through without any questioning. And then the next thing we know we're thrust into the Opening Ceremony of the Trimagicathlon, which is over just as quickly. The pacing just felt strange and rushed for most of the book, which is partly due to the magnitude of things that were put into one book.

The second major issue is not something that is specific to just this volume, but rather it became the most apparent now. As Mash has been working through the Divine Visionary exams he has been going against the most powerful wizards in Easton, and now in any of the schools, but the opponents he has been introduced to have started to lose their wow factor because each new one is introduced as being some sort of prodigy. How many prodigies can you have at one time? You had Abel and his gang, but Mash overtook them. Then you had Margarette who had insane power for their age and bested others in an entire tournament when they were a child. Then you had Carpaccio who was also a prodigy and had one of the Cane wands which was chosen at birth, but even he wasn't as powerful as Lance, who is supposidly the best in their year. And then you have Orter who is extremely powerful compared to even Divine Visionaries, and now you have Domina Blowelive who is supposedly the most powerful of all the candidates, but even he wasn't as good as Rayne.

All of these new antagonists have started to bleed together, and it doesn't help that almost all of them like to monologue about having power and despising "impurities" and whatnot. They are all very interesting characters with creative designs and magical abilities, and I have liked seeing Mash get to work with some of the characters he has fought before. But a lot of these antagonists have started to blur together as they act so similar to each other and have been built up as being "the best of the best" only to just be dwarfed by some new villain in the next book. At first I was afraid that the fights would become repetitive because Komto couldn't keep them fresh and unique, but maybe it's not the magic and fighting that I need to worry about but the actual people Mash faces to begin with. I would like a bit more diversity within the villains so that they don't all begin to feel like the same person in different fonts. And I would still like more girls! All of the six candidates from Walkis (as well as the three from Saint Ars) are male, and this series has started to become very male-heavy. I would like to see more girls besides Lemon, especially as powerful magic wielders.

Despite my complaints I still did enjoy the book, I was just dissapointed in a few aspects of it. There were some parts I did enjoy a lot, like the beginning when Mash and his friends studied for their midterm. I've mentioned before that I really cherish the parts that actually show Mash doing school stuff. I think it's funny that, despite not having any magical ability, the physical portions are what he does best and he can't seem to do anything bookish or technical. I also particularly liked Mash and Orter's fight, which I thought was well written and incredibly fun. But by far the best part of this volume was baby Mash, no competition. I liked getting to learn a bit about him before he was adopted by his father, and I love that he hasn't changed since he was a baby.

"He's using top-tier driving techniques at just five months old!"

I also loved Rayne's morning routine. As someone with rabbits it isn't really far off from what I spend my free time doing. In general, those bonus comics never miss and they are the highlight of each book.

Mash may be an excellent student physically however he's having a hard time studying so his friends help him as best as they can. Then Mash gets to meet his older brother Domina and things are firing up at these two.
