Men ask her to dance. And she is inundated with interested suitors. She fights to stay close to the few friends she knows are true. One man saw her before her life changed forever. An award winning author, including the GOLD in Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards and LDSPMA Praiseworthy's top award for Romance, Jen Geigle Johnson has more stories circulating in her brain than can possibly be told. She discovered her passion for England while kayaking on the Thames near London as a young teenager. HIstory is her main jam. Her literary heroes include the greats: Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. But she has modern sensibilities as well. Six children and an inspiring husband keep her going and make certain she doesn't stay glued to a keyboard or lost in obscure fascinating details of old castles. She once greeted an ancient turtle under the water by grabbing her fin. She waterskis like a boss and hits the powder, falling down steep moguls with grace. During a study break date in college, she sat on top of a jeep's roll bars up in the mountains and fell in love with the man who would become her everything.
Now, she loves to share bits of history that might otherwise be forgotten. Whether in Regency England, the French Revolution, or Colonial America, her romance novels are much like life is supposed to be: full of adventure.
Yay, it's another Timeless Romance Anthology!!! I'm always so happy when I get to read these collections! And what a fun theme for this one. Wallflowers!!! I loved the unique twists that each author used in their stories and how they tied into the theme. Very clever and fun. All three are full of great characters, chemistry, friendship, swooning and sweet and clean romance. I love that I never have to wonder about content in these collections!!! Automatic reads for me!!!
~THE WALLFLOWER'S DANCE by Jen Geigle Johnson~ 5* ~ Lottie's character was so fun to dive into and get to know. She made me smile and had me cheering her on to sort through all the unknowns in her life. From being a wallflower to being an heiress. Who are the truly sincere people in her life and who are just there due to her change in fortune? I really liked her dear friends and the help they offer her, as well as her family. But the confusion is real as she doesn't see everything happening around her. Hopefully her knight in shining armor will stand up in time to let her know his true feelings and rescue her from her doubts and all those non knights in shining armor. Lots of fun scenes in this one. I was smiling and had a few sighs at the end. Hopefully you will too!!!
~LETTERS TO A WALLFLOWER by Heather B. Moore~ 5* ~ Ellen had me giggling with her antics. Standing as a wallflower when normally she is quite popular and never without a dance at balls and social events. But she's determined to win a wager and Lord Ravenshire comes upon her, in the midst of his own wager. These two were so much fun, very clever and witty and they wouldn't be able to stop the chemistry between them even if they wanted to! There might be a few doubts planted in their minds but their hearts know what they want and long for. I loved this sweet story!
~TO MARRY A WALLFLOWER by Anneka R. Walker~ 5* ~ This is my favorite of the three in this collection! I loved them all but this one gets my vote for favorite!
I loved Miss Winters and Lord Templeton so much. They're betrothed through somewhat unconventional means and both a little nervous. I loved how they met and learned about each other. Except they didn't know the other was their betrothed. Haha! Such a fun mistaken identity story. Very sweet and full of heart. I was swooning right along with Miss Winters. ;-)
Content: All three stories are clean.
I received a copy from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
I just listened to the audio of this collection and fell in love all over again. The narrators were amazing and the stories were every bit as sweet this time around. I love the Wallflower collection!
(6/22) What a darling set of stories, all with a wallflower theme. I loved the settings and picturing the situations.
I love these collections because each author has a slightly different writing style, but the common thread ties them all together, and for me, it was really hard to choose a favorite.
From a girl who freezes up with anxiety when talking to people, to a girl who wants to win a bet, to a girl with a secret, each story was such a fun delight and so entertaining. I loved the characters and the unique ways a wallflower was interpreted brought me some smiles and swoons.
Each one of these novellas in this collection earned a definite 5 stars from me!
Content: mild romance
*I received a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.*
Timeless Romance collections are always so good. I love getting various authors and genres with each book. This collections features three of my favorite authors writing in the regency genre and it was a real treat reading it.
Each story has a unique take on the "wallflower" scenario and it was so fun! The characters were fantastic and I could easily imagine myself in ballrooms, homes and around town and country with them. There was a softness about these stories that I really fell in love with. So easy on the mind on heart! It's an easy five stars for each of these novellas.
I absolutely loved the stories by Heather B. Moore and Anneka R. Walker. They had the perfect amount of romance and are worthy to dream about.
The first story, however, disappointed me. It felt rushed from the beginning to end, and made for an awkward read. I nearly did not finish and actually stopped a few times unsure if I wanted to continue. I also found the change in character strange. The female main protagonist is shy at first, then suddenly becomes an heiress and somehow manages to completely change who she is?
I am someone who is generous with reviews, but the first story was odd and not to my liking. Luckily, the other two stories totally made up for it.
I had so much fun working with these talented authors! What a cool concept. Wallflowers come in all shapes and sizes. And what a fun way to explore their chance at love.
What a fabulous anthology! I loved the premise of a wallflower finding love. Each story was so well written and just when I thought I’d found a favorite, I’d read the next story and fall in love with it. These authors are all fabulous and to have them all in one collection was fantastic!
The Wallflower’s Dance by Jen Geigle Johnson is a best friends to lovers trope with swoony romance and a bit of intrigue. Lottie is happiest when she has a good book or is spending time with her best friend Denny. She tends to be shy and tongue tied around others, but with Denny she can be herself. When she suddenly receives an unexpected inheritance, men who wouldn’t look at her twice, suddenly are interested. The two friends start seeing each other in a new light, but one man is determined to woo Lottie away from Denny.
I enjoyed the friendship between Denny and Lottie. It was so fun seeing their relationship turn from friends to more. The other suitors give Denny some definite competition though and cause for concern. I loved the scene where he visits Lottie late at night and they talk in the kitchen.
Letters to a Wallflower by Heather B. Moore is a delightful tale of mistaken identity and a fake relationship. Miss Ellen Young is a beautiful diamond of the first water, however rather than seek a suitor, she’d prefer tending her flower garden. She disguises herself as a wallflower in order to win a bet for some prized rose cuttings. Lord Aaron Ravenshire’s mother is determined to have him wed. She encourages him to look to the wallflowers because one of them would easily accept him. He decides to take her advice and meets Ellen. As the two talk, it’s clear they enjoy each other’s company. To appease their mothers, they agree to pose as a courting couple, exchanging letters while Aaron returns to his estate to take care of his sheep.
I loved this story! The chemistry between these two is off the charts. The dialogue was so good and the premise kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. I liked the letters they exchanged and the way their fake relationship turned into something more. I loved the scene where she sees the baby lambs for the first time and of course the library scene. The epilogue is so good!
To Marry a Wallflower by Anneka R. Walker takes marriage of convenience and turns it on its head with double mistaken identity. Charlotte Winters is on the verge of spinsterhood. When she turns down a marriage proposal, she’s dubbed a flirt and her name is dragged through the mud. Lord Luke Templeton is looking for a wife. He’s lonely without any close relatives and both parents deceased. When his friend Mr. Winters tells him about his daughter’s plight, Luke decides to offer a betrothal. He’s never met Charlotte, but believes he could make a marriage of convenience work. Charlotte is not at all happy with this arrangement and decides to observe Lord Templeton from afar before introducing herself. Confusion ensues when Lord Templeton meets Charlotte and doesn’t properly introduce himself. She thinks he’s Lord Templeton’s friend and she introduces herself as a fictional cousin Miss Lambe. As these two exchange letters and meetings as a way of helping their fiction “friends” they begin to fall in love with each other. But, what happens when both must reveal their true identities?
This story was so much fun! There’s romance, witty dialogue, and humor as these two try to reconcile their hidden identities with the truth. It’s such a great story and one I’ve never read before. I loved the scene in the rain and those endearing little touches like Charlotte’s fans, and Luke talking to his horse. There’s just so many things to love about this story.
Highly recommend this anthology! Fans of regency romance will love it. Each story is amazing and completely satisfying, yet could easily be read in a day. I received a complimentary copy from the authors. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.
What can I say? A Timeless Regency Collection is always a good thing! To Kiss a Wallflower was positively delightful and so much fun to read! Definitely recommend for a nice weekend read. You’ll finish with a smile on your face 😃.
Summaries/reviews of each novella below.
The Wallflower’s Dance By Jen Geigle Johnson
Best friends to lovers! One of my favorite tropes.
Denny and Lottie have known each other since childhood. They know everything about each other and know exactly what to do to help each other out.
After Lottie suddenly inherits a great fortune, men that never gave her a second glance come around vying for her attention. But will anyone ever love her for herself? Not just the money? Denny is enlisted to help sort the many suitors.
I loved when Denny starts to realize that what he feels for Lottie goes beyond friendship. The twinges of jealousy and hasty actions make him put his foot in his mouth many a time lol. And all the feelings Lottie starts to have towards Denny leave her confused but super happy at the same time. Like they SHOULD be together. I really love stories where best friends finally realize they are the perfect match for each other!
The ending scene was very cute! This novella leaves you with a sweet, happy ending.
Letters to a Wallflower By Heather B Moore
When wagers and crafted plans produce unexpected results… I really loved this story! It was super super cute and the character chemistry was so good!
Miss Ellen Young has been declared a diamond of the first waters and her mother is determined to get her married but all she really wishes for is to return to the quiet country life and her garden. Away from the spotlight and the many admirers in Town.
Lord Aaron Ravenshire has come to London per his mother’s request. She is determined that he find a wife this season. But all he really wants is to be at his estate, overseeing his sheep project that he is engaged in for the Prince Regent.
Aaron and Ellen meet under slightly unusual circumstances but hit it off right away. Both witty and charming and completely at ease in each other’s company. They are honest and forthright and are able to help each other form a plan of action to benefit both, deciding to pretend that they are courting to get their mothers to stop pressuring them. But a fake courtship and very real letters might just foil their plans…
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and was so excited with the epilogue as well. The best of happily ever after!
To Marry a Wallflower By Anneka Walker
A “scandal”, an arranged marriage, mistaken identities, and a love story all in one! This was such a cute story! I loved the plot, pacing, and the outcome!
Charlotte Winters becomes involved in a scandal of sorts after rejecting a marriage proposal. This leads to gossip and rumors about her being an incorrigible flirt. When her father returns home one day telling her the solution to her problem is an arranged marriage to a man she’s never met before she is upset and nervous about the prospect.
When Luke Templeton hears about his late father’s friend and the predicament his daughter is in, he decides to put himself forward and marry her to save her reputation. He is unsure about the idea but also very much looking forward to having a companion.
Naturally both parties are interested in their future spouse and they manage to gather some key information about each other… all while pretending to be other people and falling in love with who they think are the wrong people 😂.
I smiled through the whole story and I super enjoyed the epilogue!
I received an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This has to be one of my all-time favorite Timeless Anthology Collections. It is set during the Regency Era and shows some of the pros and cons of being a wallflower.
In The Wallflower's Dance Charlotte has a problem conversing with potential dance partners. There is one gentleman she can talk to, her best-friend Denny. He is wonderful at guiding her through conversations, but when he is not there, she freezes up and says strange things. Things change overnight for her when she finds that she is to inherit a large sum. Unexpectedly, gentlemen come at her left and right wanting to know her. Through it all, she has Denny....until he starts acting like a suitor.
I loved this story where it was interesting to see if Charlotte and Denny could have a friends-to-lovers happy ending. They were cute together and I couldn't see why they didn't form an attachment earlier when she was a wallflower.
Letters to a Wallflowerhas a heroine who would love to be a wallflower. She is considered a "diamond of the first water" but she would love to have an evening without aching feet. She takes a bet with her cousin that if she dressed horribly and hid with the wallflowers that she could remain undetected and have a pleasant evening. Lord Aaron Ravenshire isn't ready to find a bride so he agrees to dance with all the wallflowers at the ball, except the one who refuses him.
Seriously, this story is the funniest of the three. To fool their mothers that they have an attachment they agree to write letters back and forth. At first, it is all fun and games until real feelings start to develop. This is a story that will make you laugh and hope that the two can have a real relationship.
The final story is To Marry a Wallflower. This story is a bit tricky. Charlotte has had her reputation ruined by a rejected suitor. He is set to smear her name to everyone who will listen. Lord Luke Templeton is a spectator to the young man setting upon her father and agrees that he will marry her to save her from ruin.
The two have a chance meeting before they are introduced, only they both give fake names. She is Miss Lambe and he is Mr. Luke. They agree to meetings under false pretenses. They are posing at a cousin of one and a close friend of the other to pass on information to the prospective bride and groom. It sounds a bit complicated, but it really is easy to follow in the story. The issue is that they both start having feelings for each other, thinking they are being unfaithful to their betrothed. I loved this novella. It is another that will make you laugh at the dilemma that they have placed themselves under.
I highly recommend this collection. It was easy for me to fall in love with the story and the couples. This an anthology that I did not want to put down.
What a refreshing change in this new Timeless Regency Collection. The "stars" of each story are a female that would be considered a "Wallflower" and a bit more shy and reserved. I loved how each story was written so cute and each so different from the other.
The Wallflower's Dance by Jen Geigle Johnson was a friends-to-lovers trope. Lottie and Denny have a sweet relationship that they both have taken advantage of through the years & not realizing what they truly had. Once Lottie comes into an inheritance this wallflower becomes instantly popular. I loved how Lottie and Denny dance a new dance around each other when they both realize what is at stake.
Letters to a Wallflower by Heather B. Moore was a fun story. Ellen is not truly a wallflower but a diamond of the first water in society. In other words, she's the one most men want. Poor Ellen is so tired of the whole game and just wants to stay home and work in her rose garden. Her mother though is putting pressure on her to marry. For one night and with a wager with her cousin, Ellen becomes a wallflower to get away from the inner circle of society and the presses of men.
Lord Ravenshire has the same problem with a mother who wants him married sooner rather than later. He knows he needs to be there for the Season trying to find a wife but his concerns lie back home with the Merino Sheep the Prince Regent has left in his care. One night he decides to dance with the women at the back of the room; the wallflowers. This story felt like a long novel and I wish it had been. Ellen and Aaron strike a bargain to get away from societal demands by helping each other but they chewed off more than they bargained for.
To Marry a Wallflower by Anneka R. Walker was such a darling premise of two people having to marry without knowing each other. They both decide to find out about the other by undergoing small deceptions. In the long run, the joke is going to be on both of them when they find out something very surprising. I really liked the characters of Charlotte and Lord Templeton and the letters written to introduce themselves. This was a very clever idea.
All three of these novellas are great and fun to read. This change of pace of women who would prefer to stay out of the spotlight makes for some interesting and delightfully told stories.
I love how these collections are always unique and sweet quick reads. It has all the best parts of books-even when they have the same theme - in this case wallflowers, each story is so different!
🎩 The Wallflower’s Dance - Jen Geigle Johnson
Lottie is nervous talking to strangers especially at a ball when anything that could go wrong could be gossiped. She loves her cousins and they plan to help her. Little does she know how much help she’ll need when she unexpectedly inherits a fortune!
This has friends to lovers and love triangle tropes.
💌 Letters To A Wallflower - Heather Moore
Poor Ellen, not only is she blessed with beauty and declared a diamond of the first water, all she wants to do is be in the country with no responsibilities. Her mother wants her to marry a titled gentleman so Ellen is seeking the opposite. Her cousin dares her to stand with the wallflowers to dissuade men from asking her to dance. Lord Ravenshire is trying to delay marriage so naturally he’s dancing with the wallflowers. 😅 Of course best laid plans and all.
This has a wager, a touch of fake dating and a house party.
💍 To Marry A Wallflower - Anneka Walker
Charlotte is told by her father that she’s to marry Lord Templeton, who is a complete stranger. Naturally she’s curious and tries to find out as much as she can. She finds a gentleman that goes by Luke who knows Lord Templeton. They are to pass letters to get to know each other.
This has secret identity and an arranged marriage.
I can’t decide which is my favorite but I love how these wallflowers weren’t afraid to be brave, to stand tall and take action. I think more men needed to be like Lord Ravenshire who seeks out the wallflowers.
Thank you to the publisher for the gifted book and audio as well as Austenprose PR for setting up the blog tour. These are my own thoughts and opinions.
I love these collections! You get to read three novellas by great authors, all around a common theme. Each of the books is so different. These books are just a great!
The Wallflower’s Dance by Jen Geigle Johnson was so cute! I loved Lottie. She’s just a bit awkward and that makes her a loveable character. Things change rather quickly for her when she suddenly inherits a fortune. And that makes life a bit confusing for her. She has no way of knowing which of her suitors is sincere. Lottie turns to her dear friend, Denny, to help guide her. But even he is under suspicion.
I loved these two. They’re just the cutest together, they really balanced each other well. And they knew each other so well also. Such a cute friends to more romance!
Next up is Letters to a Wallflower by Heather B Moore. I loved Ellen in this one. Her bet with her cousin was great. It was kind of funny how similar Ellen and Aaron were. Neither of them wanted to be in the city for the season, they both would rather be at their country homes and out of the bustle. I loved that they hatch a plan of their own to kind of trick their mothers into letting them be where they wanted to be.
I loved the letters they wrote to each other. And this one ends with a house party! There isn’t much better than that.
Last but not least is Anneka Walker’s To Marry a Wallflower. There were so many things to love about this one! The first thing is Luke. I loved how he put himself out there and agreed to marry Charlotte without ever even seeing her, just to save her reputation.
I loved Charlotte. And how both of them try to find out about the other by not telling the whole truth about who they were. The way they fell in love was just so perfect.
This is such a great collection!
I was sent a copy of To Kiss a Wallflower as a gift from the author. All opinions are my own.
I'm always anticipating the next collection from Timeless Regency and this one did not disappoint! I loved the wallflower theme since I'm a bit shy myself (less so since marrying my extrovert husband) and it was easy to relate to these women. I enjoyed the three stories equally and it was a pleasure to read the unique situations of each wallflower. It's the little details and mannerisms that make them come to life with some humor and the sweet romance that leaves me with a smile on my face. The first story is the my younger self could identify with the most- freezing up with awkwardness, relying on close friends. I think friendship is the most wonderful foundation for a relationship! The second story was the most fun, with witty banter and some competition. Loved that the roses are the motivation for her to take the bet and disguise herself. The last story brought the most humor with the mistaken identities of the couple trying to learn more about each other surreptitiously, when they actually are interacting with each other unknowingly! A highly satisfying reading experience, recommend to fans of sweet Regency romance.

What a darling book! I loved every wallflower story. It was a great theme and each author had a sweet, unique story. These stories made me laugh, especially when Denny starts to get jealous in The Wallflower's Dance. I loved seeing Lottie's transformation and how she was able to take charge of her newfound situation. I definitely understood Ellen's love of roses in Letters to a Wallflower, and could imagine her joy in seeing the many beautiful ones in Lord Ravenshire's garden. The scene with Lady Marble and Lord Ravenshire was quite hilarious - another opportunity to laugh in these stories. To Marry a Wallflower was really sweet and showed very tender and vulnerable sides of the two main characters. I really liked that. I also thought that Charlotte's talent was neat and different. This book goes to the top of my list of favorite Regency collections.
I enjoyed this Anthology. I loved how each of the stories were unique but had a wallflower as the thing in common. I loved how the first story was a friends to more story and how they finally “saw” each other. I liked how in the second story love snuck up on them. I loved how the third story had hidden identities. But I loved how in each story they found the perfect person for them.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
Three sweet novellas. I love reading books about this time period. All three novellas were well written, with engaging lead characters. Each story had a unique twist to the same wallflower theme. I enjoyed all three stories, and loved that To Marry a Wallflower was reminiscent of a pre-email twist of You Got Mail. :) I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Love Blossoms Unexpectedly for 3 Unassuming Wallflowers
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Source: Review Copy from Blog Tour
Part of the Timeless Regency Collection, To Kiss a Wallflower is an anthology of three stand alone Regency Romance novellas written by three well-known and talented writers. The novellas range from 88 to 108 pages in length, and each features a heroine who is reserved, unassuming, and an introvert. I hope this break down is helpful!
THE WALLFLOWER’S DANCE – Jen Geigle Johnson
- Type of Story: Best Friends to Lovers
- The Premies: Lottie and her childhood friend Denny approach the season with the intent to marry. But what happens when they realize the person they want to marry most is their best friend…
- My Thoughts: Such a charming story! Lottie and Denny are wonderfully endearing. It was sweet to see these two try and navigate the season together – how they planned to support each other no matter what, and how Denny would vet and investigate any of Lottie’s suitors. I loved seeing both characters work through their feelings – how they reacted when other marriage prospects paid each other attention, and what happened when the depth of their feelings finally dawned on them. This was a tender and beautiful story about friendship growing into something more.
LETTERS TO A WALLFLOWER – Heather B. Moore
- Type of Story: Pretend Courtship
- The Premise: Miss Ellen Young is exhausted from the activity and attention of the season, and would love nothing more than to go home and work in her garden. And when she discovers that Lord Ravenshire – one of her many suitors – feels the same, they establish a courtship ruse to mutually benefit both of their desires…
- My Thoughts: This pretend courtship gave me some Bridgerton vibes. I loved how Ellen and Aaron each had their own passions – Ellen her roses, Aaron his Merino sheep, and I loved witnessing them share about their passions with each other. It was interesting to see how this relationship developed since both were not initially interested in marriage with each other and were primarily courting through correspondence. I did wish this story was just a little longer.
TO MARRY A WALLFLOWER – Anneka R. Walker
- Type of Story: Marriage of Convenience, Mistaken Identity
- The Premise: Luke is generous and caring and always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. Which is how he found himself offering to marry the daughter of his father’s dear friend to save her from a slanderous spurned suitor. Now he wants to learn about what sort of woman is he marrying…
- My Thoughts: Such a fun tangle! Both Charlotte and Luke try to learn about each other through secretive and misleading ways. I appreciated how these characters were developed, and the little bits about their personalities and pasts the reader learns alone the way. It was wonderfully entertaining to see them adopt false personas and how awkward it was for them to talk about themselves to each other. I loved the drama of them falling in love with each other when they aren’t supposed to and then the surprising moments when their true identities were revealed. This one was my favorite!
CONCLUSION:
As a shy and introverted person myself, I was attracted to this collection of stories because it was spotlighting the types of heroines with whom I can easily identify. I loved these tender and sweet tales of quiet heroines being noticed, valued, and appreciated by worthy men. The stories in To Kiss a Wallflower are delightful, cheering, and entertaining. I enjoyed them all.
What a great set of stories! This book is an anthology of three stories by three wonderful authors. The characters in all three are vibrant and alive, mixed with lots of fun and engaging action. I did not want to stop reading! The first is The Wallflower’s Dance by Jen Geigle Johnson. Lottie is a wallflower and really doesn’t mind it. For her happiness is her closest friends, a good book, and a walk in the park. She becomes tongue tied whenever she is in a position to speak with a gentleman except for her friend Denny. With him she could talk and joke easily. When Denny decides to help Lottie by introducing her to his friends and then an unexpected inheritance occurs, Lottie finds herself transformed into one of the most sought after young women. But that success doesn’t bring the results either she or Denny expect. Leading to shattering and surprising discoveries as they try to sort everything out. Letters to a Wallflower by Heather B Moore is second. Ellen is tired of being told she is beautiful. What she wants was a sincere conversation with someone or better yet returning home. But her mother is determined that she should stay for the season and make a match. Seeking at least a small reprieve, Ellen wagers that if she dressed like a wallflower no one would even notice her and her dance card would not even fill half way. So, she changes her dress for an old one of that belongs to her cousin and begins the charade. Lord Aaron Bolton is also under pressure to marry from his mother but all he wants is to return to his country estate and continue the work to restore and improve it. In an effort to appease his mother and get what he wants, Aaron gets his mother to agree to let him leave if he will dance with the wallflowers, call on one of them, and take her for a carriage ride. Slowly Aaron works his way down the line of wallflowers until he reaches Ellen. With her he finds a surprising partner to help him reach his goals while also accomplishing hers but plans don’t work out quite the way they envisioned. To Marry a Wallflower by Anneka Walker completes the trio. Luke, Lord Templeton, is at a gentleman’s club when he sees a neighbor, Mr. Winters, in trouble. As he meets with Mr. Winters, he learns that Mr. Winters’ daughter, Charlotte, had refused a proposal from a Mr. Parker and Parker was now setting about ruining Charlotte’s reputation. The only solution was for her to marry and marry quickly. Luke, wanting to help and wanting a wife, offers to marry Charlotte despite never having met her. As Charlotte and Luke both begin to prepare for the wedding each seeks out information about the other. Mistaken identities, misdirected letters, and confusing information make for a fun, fast paced, story where poor advice seems to rule the day. If you have read any of these three authors you know you are in for a treat. If you aren’t familiar with them, prepare to add their names to your list of favorites. I received an early copy and this is my honest review.
Title- To Kiss A Wallflower Author- Jen Geigle Johnson, Heather B. Moore and Anneka R. Walker Released- June 21, 2022 Pages- 324 The first story revolves around a wallflower named Lottie. Lottie enjoys a simple life of horseback riding, reading and few close friends. She tends to be a little socially awkward and relies on her good friend Denny to help navigate her conversations with those of the opposite sex. But then that all changes when a surprise inheritance comes to Lottie and now she has to deal with all of the attention that it brings along with it. Not to mention all of the potential suitors as well.
Lottie and Denny’s camaraderie is endearing and the way he is there for her is so sweet. Denny is caring, jealous and protective of those he cares for. I would definitely recommend this book to those who want a delightful read and sweet clean romance.
The second story follows the story of Ellen Young, a young beautiful lady who was set to be the star of the season. But that wasn’t really the goal she had in mind. Ellen preferred more of the simple life with her flowers at her country cottage. And then there is Lord Aaron Ravenshire who feels similar to Miss Young in that he enjoys more of country life with his sheep. They each unknowingly of one another enter into a bet that eventually brings them together.
Ellen and Aaron are both forced into a world they wouldn’t have chosen for themselves, but their bond throughout it is endearing and lovely. If you’re looking for a book to give you warm cozy feelings, then this book is for you.
The third and final story is about Lord Templeton and Miss Winters. Miss Winters and Lord Templeton have found themselves set to be married and they have yet to meet one another. They both hatch a plan to learn about their intended before they wed, but it could get them into more trouble than they realize.
Miss Charlotte Winters is a shy girl who just wants to be cared for and loved for herself. She’s an artist with a love for horseback riding and smart wit, if only she could get over her shyness to share it with someone. That is until she meets Mr. Luke who calms her in ways others haven’t. Mr. Luke is charming, caring and very patient. He is lonely and wants someone to help fill his home with love and happiness.
I recommend this book if you enjoy a bit of humor, mistaken identity and romance.
All three books were a joy to read. They offer delightful clean romances that you don’t want to put down.
I like the concept in this anthology of "what would have happened to regency-era people seeking romantic matches who had social anxiety, shyness, and awkwardness"? And I think that my favorite novella of all of them was Jen Geigle Johnson's The Wallflower's Dance, although I did also like the spunk of some of the characters in the other two novellas, too. I also could almost even see the female wallflower throughout this book's thoughts of possible spinsterhood as being feminist! Not that the fact that they ended up with the loves of their lives killed the idea, though; the kind of feminism that I believe in keeps men as an integral and needed part of women's lives, too.
Overall, however, I like the message here that even us wallflowers can keep some societal desirability and can reach our happy endings. Whether you're meant to fall in love with your best friend or you are guided by divine influence to find your true love so that you DON'T spend the rest of your life as a spinster, those safe spaces where wallflowers can feel honest, worth something, and loved --- REAL --- are shown as places that can be found.
A cute anthology of regency romances! I love how all three novellas revolved around wallflowers - it is such a unique theme - and each author did a great job tying the theme to a different trope.
I enjoyed each of these stories with lots of cute moments and some of my favorite things about Regency romances: mistaken identity, balls, letters, flirting in the rain, fake relationships, baby sheep, hilarious wagers, arranged marriages, and swoony kisses.
I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required.
I love this sweet clean anthology by three of my favorite author. Jen Geigle Johnson, Heather B Moore, and Aneka R Walker each wrote a story involving a wallflower as one of the wonderful characters. The whole book was AMAZING!
All three of these stories were well written and so much fun! I really enjoyed all of the characters. Each story had a happily ever after. All are sweet, clean romances.
Three novellas in this collection. The first two were okay-ish but not that convincing to me. I really liked the third one, which was by Anneka Walker and had a little bit of a You’ve Got Mail thing going on, which I’m a sucker for.
I am nearly always in the mood for a Timeless Regency Collection (or any of the Timeless collections, for that matter). The writing is always perfection and it often gives me a taste of authors I haven’t yet read… or gives me a very good excuse to binge read three always-enjoyed authors all at once.
The latter is the case in To Kiss a Wallflower by Jen Geigle Johnson, Heather B. Moore, and Anneka R. Walker. While I have read more of Johnson’s work than the others, I have also enjoyed the books by Moore & Walker that I’ve read. And I love a good wallflower romance, so I was super excited when I found out about this latest collection.
In Johnson’s The Wallflower’s Dance, we are treated to a delicious rendering of one of my fave romance tropes – best friends to more. I adored Lottie’s friendship with Denny & his sister Grace (though Grace was mostly a background character), and I loved Lottie’s banter and heartfelt conversations with Denny. I think one of the reasons that I enjoy this trope so much is that there are plenty of chances for those breath-stealing moments when suddenly your heart becomes abundantly clear. Especially when, like in Denny’s case, the hero (or heroine) realizes that the relationship will be forever changed once one party marries and then oh, how can your heart ever be full without this best friend with whom maybe you’ve fallen in love unawares. Needless to say, watching Denny & Lottie finally begin to recognize what their hearts have known all along is super swoony and full of smiles for the reader.
Moore’s Letters to a Wallflower portrays another fave trope of mine – fake relationship. We don’t often see this particular trope in Regency settings so it was fun to see how the author set it up. I thought the premise was very plausible and, after reading this delightful story, I’m not sure why we don’t see fake relationships written about more in Regency romances – it really does lend itself nicely to the era. Ellen and her cousin reminded me in all the best ways of young women you would find in a Jen Turano novel – independent, witty, caring, and prone to dismiss proper social etiquette as tiresome and inconvenient. Aaron is the perfect match for Ellen’s personality, and their fake-relationship-turned-friendship-turned-love was a pleasure to watch unfold through their exchanged letters as well as in person interactions.
Finally, To Marry a Wallflower by Walker delivers a positively swoonilicious mistaken/hidden identity story with a betrothal of convenience twist. I do believe that Luke is my favorite hero of the three stories – though it’s a very close race to be sure. He is exceedingly kind and compassionate, a man of integrity, and just good. He voluntarily steps in to marry the daughter of a family friend, sight unseen, after a rejected suitor has started an unfair smear campaign of her in the social pages. That ‘sight unseen’ part is where the mistaken/hidden identity trope comes in to play and, though I suspected it would happen, I giddily held my breath at every stolen glance & near-kiss between Luke & Charlotte as they are (to their respective struggle) drawn to each other long before their true identities are revealed.
Bottom Line: A Timeless Regency Romance collection. Jen Geigle Johnson. Heather B. Moore. Anneka R. Walker. How can you go wrong with that combination? Well, you can’t and these talented authors prove me right with each sweet & swoony story in this collection. All three stories are distinct in style and trope with well-developed plot & characters, despite the shorter word count. This gives readers a good feel for the authors’ respective voices while being thoroughly entertained at the same time. Relax this weekend in your favorite reading spot with the delightful banter, breath-stealing kisses, grin-inducing wit, relatable emotion, engaging heroines, and dreamy heroes of To Kiss a Wallflower!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)

🌸Releases June 21st🌸
Thank you to the authors for an arc copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I'm always excited when another collection is released. I LOVE them because if I'm short on time I can read a complete story in less than an hour. This collection focuses on the Wallflowers, those shy young women who stand or sit along the wall hoping for a dance and a chance at finding love.
THE WALLFLOWER'S DANCE by Jen Geigle Johnson Lottie is shy and has trouble talking to people she doesn't know well, but as long as she's got her best friend Denny there to help her she can manage. Overnight Lottie becomes an heiress and everyone starts treating her differently and she's receiving attention from so many gentlemen. Are they truly interested in her, or just or money? This is such a sweet best friends to love story. I like how Denny and his sister helped Lottie and hoped Lottie would be able to see through those who didn't have her best interest at heart.
LETTERS TO A WALLFLOWER by Heather B. Moore Ellen is tired of attending balls and doesn't care to marry a man with a title so she makes a bet with her cousin and for one ball she pretends to be a wallflower. Lord Ravenshire has made a deal with his mother to dance with a wallflower and of course comes upon Ellen. Can Lord Ravenshire help Ellen win her wager with her cousin and still keep the deal he made with his mother? This was a fun mistaken identity/fake relationship story especially with Ellen's unconventional spinster cousin and the neighborhood gossip trying to figure out which young lady Lord Ravenshire was visiting.
TO MARRY A WALLFLOWER by Anneka R. Walker When Charlotte turns down an unwanted proposal she never dreamed her father would hurry to get her betrothed to another to "save her reputation". Luke agrees to marry Charlotte without knowing anything about her. They get to know each other by exchanging letters, with each thinking the other is someone else. I really enjoyed this super fun double fake identity romance as Charlotte and Luke fell in love with each other, but thought they were someone else. I really loved watching these two fall in love.
I also listened to the audiobook and LOVED it. It has dual narrators (Shane East & Shakira Shute) for each of the novellas and they're both wonderful. Who doesn't love a man with a British accent?!!
All of these novellas are sweet romances with just kisses. I received a complimentary copy for review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I love these collections of quick reads. They are always so good and I like the creative take each author takes on the theme given. They got really creative with the wallflower subject.
💃The Wallflower Dance: Lottie has always been nervous talking around strangers, but can speak at length to her best friend. Her season has come and she and her best friend are both looking to find their matches. No one notices her in society, until she unexpectedly inherits a large fortune. Now how can she tell who is sincere and who isn’t? A sweet friends to lovers story.
💌Letters to a Wallflower
Ellen is a diamond among women this season, but she does not want to marry a titled gentleman, she’d rather spend her time in the country with her garden. Her cousin tells her that she’d be a diamond even if she dressed poorly and stood with the wallflowers. Lord Ravenshire wants to avoid marriage, but appease his mom, so he decides to ask wallflowers to dance. Ellen and Lord Ravenshire come up with a plan to trick their mothers into thinking they are courting, so that they can both have time at their respective estates. Their meddling mothers have the last laugh though… such a cute fake relationship story!
👰♀️To Marry a Wallflower Charlotte’s father arranges her marriage with Lord Templeton and is very curious to learn more about this man. Mistaken identities leads to time spent together in order to learn more about the person they are to marry. Little do they know that neither has been honest about who they are and they both start to have feelings for each other.
These were all so well done. I listened to the audio version and really enjoyed the dual voice narrators they chose. They seemed to match the characters and time period well. My favorite character was Lord Ravenshire, because he actively sought out a wallflower, and in fact danced with them all. If you like getting a feel for new authors, this is a great way to try out their style. I’m excited to read more from these authors.
