Poppy Green can talk to animals! Unfortunately, they never talk back to her. So she started writing in order to imagine what they might say and do when humans aren’t watching. Poppy lives on the edge of the woods in Connecticut, where her backyard is often a playground for all kinds of wildlife: birds, rabbits, squirrels, voles, skunks, deer, and the occasional wild turkey.

We love the Sophie Mouse series! Alas, this latest installment isn't one of my favorites in the series. It's a cute enough story of friends going camping, and true Sophie Mouse fans will probably enjoy seeing Sophie, Hattie and Owen pitch a tent, roast marshmallows, and solve a little nighttime mystery. But, for me, it's lacking the charm that made me fall in love with the series to begin with -- namely, the miniature world element. It feels just like a camping trip any human would go on -- not something that mice and other little woodland creatures would do. At least have the tent be made of leaves... something like you'd see with a fairy house. Fortunately, we didn't buy this one (though we do have several of Sophie's books in our home library).

Gosh I just love this series and am so sad we're almost caught up. The kids go camping in this one and get a little scared but find out its just other friends. Cute!

The Sophie Mouse series is an all-time top favorite of my 6 year old so she was thrilled when this arrived. All the books in the series are highly illustrated with short chapters and about 100 pages total. They are gentle stories of a young mouse, her family, and the other animal friends in her community. When we first started this series I read the stories aloud to my daughter, then she got to the point where she could read them herself and she does regular rereads of the books. For this book she wanted to take turns reading aloud with me.

Book 19 follows Sophie and her friends on a camping trip as they learn new skills and face apprehensions. Like the rest of the series it is full of nature, friendship, and heartwarming stories. My daughter is already asking when book 20 will be available! 😄

Sophie, Hattie, and Owen overhear some other kids talking about camping at school and get inspired to take their own camping trip. They gather all the supplies they need, and their parents give them approval to go to a campsite within walking distance of their homes by themselves. They are having fun until they start to hear some strange noises. Is there someone else at the campsite?

There's a non-scary source behind the noises and the end of the story is cute. This is a fun little introduction to tent camping for kids complete with 'smores and campfire songs (and they opt to skip the scary stories). The illustrations scattered throughout are adorable.

No content issues.

4.5 stars.

Self contained story and keeps all the character growth and fun of previous stories too. Helps that the kid loved it too.
