Spartans in the books need to be power scaled.. really good military sci-fi with all the details that make Halo awesome. Voro Nar ‘Mantakree (Covenant Elite) was a very cool antagonist to the story and the chapters where he is the focus are super cool.
10/10 Amazing, great addition to the series. Follows the Spartan 3 projects and adds an insane amount of lore and revisits characters. Explains more forerunner lore which I didnt care about before but its quite interesting to me now and gives me hope for future installments to see what happens. Sad Kurt dies but it's a fitting end to his journey, after losing so many of his Spartans, making the sacrifice to protect them 'forever' works well. He's a good guy, sad he's gone. Nice to see the emotional side to them all.

Originally I gave it a 4 star, but that didnt sit right with me. That extra star comes down to the nostalgia I feel for this book and the others released in this era of Halo.
Its a good book, so good that I have read it several times over the years and listened to the audiobook 3 times.
While its not incredible, it always makes me smile.
“One last fight, demon. You will die and we shall reopen the silver path.”
“Die?” Kurt laughed. “Didn’t you know?” He told the elite. “…Spartans Never die.”
Out of the 4 Original halo books, this one is my favorite. It’s halos equivalent to those gritty brutal ww1 documentaries or story’s you’d find on Netflix.
10/10, would read again.

When this book does well, it excels. unfortunately, an huge chunk of the middle of the book is really uninteresting and I almost dropped the book completely. the sub plot with the space battles feels forced and unnecessary and the inclusion of blue team, while not necessarily poor, took time away from the development of Kurt and the Spartan IIIs. Easily the weakest of the trilogy.
I loved this book however there were some miss spelled words and some double printed words as well I don’t know if it’s the computer I have or what but that’s why I dropped it a star. The ending also slightly made me cry. But so worth it.
