A natural protector, Kahlil Roberts feels like less of a man if he can’t serve those in need. While both Honey and Kahlil have voids the other can fill, there are also reservations and past fears keeping them apart. As easy as their connection was, it proves to be a bit more difficult to keep their secrets and skeletons from ripping them apart. Throughout their journey for one another’s hearts, an enemy from Kahlil’s past threatens their lives. Will Mr. Librarian be able to save Honey again, or will she become another person he fails when they need him most?

Mister Librarian was an odd read. Honey was attacked in her home. She no longer feels safe being alone so, she moves back in with her parents. Because of the attack, Honey is supposedly “triggered.” I had a hard time viewing Honey as a victim because, the actual attack wasn’t written in the storyline. It was told to us by Honey so, the whole “triggering” didn’t come off as very believable. A lot of this storyline was written in second person which, was extremely frustrating. Most of the dialogue was like, “During my talk with Janae, she told me…”, “Mama told me when she got pregnant with me…” “Daddy finally admitted he….” This was literally throughout the entire book. Other than Honey and Kahlil, there were no actual conversations written between these characters. The author built up this conflict between Honey and her dad but, it was very underdeveloped. Honestly, I was more interested in their issues. And, that whole plot about the journey books was just too far-fetched for me. I really wanted to like Mister Librarian but, it was a hard no.
It's been a minute since I've read a B. Love book, but I promise she never disappoints me. When I saw that this was going to focus on a Black librarian, I just knew that I had to get my hands on it. 4.5 stars!
Mister Librarianfocuses on two characters Khalil and Honey. Khalil runs a library that solely focuses on Black literature and Honey has a business in book restoration. The two initially meet when Honey has a restoration project go wrong during delivery. Khalil quickly steps in to rectify the situation by helping Honey get the money that she deserves. The two quickly recognize their attraction to each other and begin to hang out. One of the things that I love about B. Loves storytelling is the layering that she does with both the characters and the plot. Things are never what they seem and both the hero and heroine are dealing with some pretty dark familial/past dating issues. What a lot of readers will appreciate about the relationship between Khalil and Honey is that they help each other recognize their trauma and encourage each other to heal. Khalil is particularly understanding of Honey's need to take their relationship slow and recognizes that there is a certain level of trust that they have to build with each other. Nevertheless, when the two build their bond it's beautiful to watch their relationship unfold. There were elements of this book that I didn't expect! The reasoning behind why Khalil is into being a librarian/bookselling was really fascinating and it made wish that Love would explore this idea in greater detail in a future book. This book was HOT. Khalil had me wishing for my own Mr. Librarian. If you're looking for a great read, I definitely recommend checking this one out.
Small ass and probably an A cup , I feel seen 😫. They never write about skinny Black girls fr. Anyway, the writing was unbearable, not smooth at all, just too direct and overly simple. Fast connection, trauma bonding and characters lacking depth, Had to DNF at 90%.
Mr. Librarian I am ready for the rest of the touuurrr! 🥺🤤🤤
Seriously, this was a cute book. Khalil is a black bookstore owner but he also has a past and some interesting hobbies. He screams sex appeal and he doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty! When Khalil met Honey at his bookstore he immediately went into protector mode and it was up from that point on. I absolutely adored the way that Khalil wanted to show Honey that it was okay to trust him. He didn’t mind showing and telling Honey that she meant everything to him. I felt like Honey really progressed well over the book. She found her voice and allowed herself to trust and love Khalil. The two were compatible and their love was so sweet. I thought it was admirable that Khalil wanted to tie up his, “loose ends” because it showed that he was serious about their relationship. When Khalil said, “Don’t ever feel like you can’t express yourself to me. I’m fully invested in this, and I’ve been very intentional with how I handle you. I wanted you to love me, because I knew I was going to love you too.” I was like YES!! 😩🙌🏾
The book has sweet love, good drama, and was an overall vibe. Who doesn’t Stan a man that loves books!?
Whew! Who knew that owning books could be so lucrative, as well as dangerous! Kahlil, was a lover of books, with an interesting past. He took over the family library that was previously ran by his father and grandfather before him. Reeling from a huge loss, and dealing with regret and guilt; working is giving him some semblance of peace. But, there was darkness and greed surrounding some of the books! Hmm.... Honey was a sweet woman, caught up in a difficult situation; that is not made better by her father's behavior! Meeting Kahlil in the library shook her, as she is staying away from men; but there is something about him! Both Kahlil and Honey are dealing with trauma from the past, but they find peace and healing within each other. Their friendship and budding relationship was beautiful to see unfold! A little drama, action, betrayal and violence to add to the mix gave this story life! Good read! 👍👍👍
Honey and Khalil both are dealing with past trauma. Their connection via books makes this story interesting. Khalil gave me Joe from You (because he owned an assortment of rare books) meets James St. Patrick from Power (because he went legit but still had ties to the street) vibes.
This is the first book I have read from this author. Actually, I listened to the audio book. The main reasons I picked it up was because 1. Winston James was narrating, and 2. A black male Librarian sounded interesting.
I honestly don't know what happened with this book. I felt like it started out one way, and veered off into a whole different experience. Mafia? Gang? Librarian? Treasure maps? Shooting? Family Drama?
The question I had was not "what" was going on? The question was, "why" is all of this going on in the same book at the same time?
I like Winston James. I don't know if this book did his narration justice. The same goes for the female narrator. This is my first time listening to Opal Black, who has a very nice voice. It didn't seem to me like her voice went along with the character.
I will try another book in the series because sometimes book 1 doesn't do justice to the writer's talent.
This was different which is why I gave it 3 stars. I didn’t see “Librarian “ coming with those journey books. This story needs to be fleshed out more and the whole conflict with her father could have been left out. A lot of this story is a telling. Honey and Khalil have a meet cute sort of with a fast paced romance and a little suspense. Give the book a try you might like it.
Khalil was definitely a book bae. Honey met him in his library and the were attracted to each other immediately. Who would have thought that owning a library was so profitable and dangerous. Khalil helped Honey get over her fear after being violated by her then boyfriend and Honey helped him get over his need to be in control. Great job B. Love and I would love to read more about this couple.
What I liked: 1) Honey and Khalil's relationship. 2) The pacing was not too fast or too slow 3) Within the short page count, Honey and Khalil managed to feel like real people due to their backstories and present challenges.
What I didn't like: 1) The secondary plot surrounding Khalil and his illegal activities was not very interesting to me 2) The sex scenes were very spicy but at the same time but lacked passion
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I felt like there were a lot of parts missing. Overall I loved the book. I loved the name Honey and I think it went well with her character. I can definitely see myself in Honey.
Mr Librarian is The Book Bae of all Book Baes!!! The intensity, devotion, care, maturity, BOOKS!!!, swag, protection. Ugh!!! He is incredible! This story was such a breath of fresh air. The storyline was definitely one of a kind. I'll admit, I didn't love Honey. There was something about her that didn't read or feel genuine. I understand the trauma that she needed to heal from, but I didn't feel as much for her as I did for Kahlil.
This was a beautiful story! I was so happy to finally find a fmc that was slim and not have a bbl body! Not everyone has that! And the fact that they bonded over books was so cute! Mr. Librarian was a hit! I wish they would’ve explored the sex club together though. It was a unique kind of plot. I just wish it was longer so that so many more details could’ve been told between them. Great story and had a smidge amount of spice. I look forward to reading other books in the series! This was the first B Love book I’ve read but it won’t be the last!
This was good.. love that there was some suspense in it. I thought it was going to just be a love story, but it surprised me with the criminal/ treasure map element!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This fine chocolate specimen of a man!!!! Khalil Seemingly a simple librarian was much much more that. Honey didn’t know what she was in for. This was good and I love how he tried to protect her and teach her how to protect herself. They were cute.
Mr. Librarian is one name, but Mr. Perfectly Right is another. He... I mean this book was everything! So much was present in this book that left readers with valuable gems for relationship building. Not just romantic relationships, but genuine friendships. The focus of healing was dealt with independently, but with support. The way they were protective of each other was so breathtaking. To have a focus on not just living, loving, but healing and trusting yourself again was a lesson for many to understand. This is definitely one of the best reads of the year! As an avid reader... seeing Mr. Librarian and a sexy visual on the cover, I was sold. I was sooo excited that judging this book by it's cover was worth it! 💯 A book bae was definitely created! Thank you B. Love for this HEA! Honey & Khalil are truly going to be remembered forever!
I enjoyed reading Me. Librarian. Who ever really thinks about the private lives of librarians??? Lol this book will definitely make you look at them a little bit closer in wonder about what they do when the library is closed. The book would have been 4 stars but there were quite a few places were passages were written in an unclear way. ***SPOILER ALERT*** for example near the end when the plan to make fake copies and hand them over and sell the real ones to be put in a museum was explained each time it was talked about certain parts changed. First the books were to be burned, then sold to be put in a museum, then actually none of that happened. Not sure if it was intentional but it was confusing in the way that it was worded. Overall though it was a fun, exciting, cute romance.
I love gentleness that Kahlil exuded with Honey. The storyline surrounding their developing relationship was good. However, the end of the book seemed a bit rushed and the underworld that Kahlil was involved in seemed very far fetched and did not add anything but confusion to the story in my opinion. Unfortunately the plot did not do it for me. I sighed and rolled my eyes too many times to count while reading the last few chapters. I also was confused by the late introduction of Franklin and how his story played out. This did not end with me wanting to read a part 2. If there is one, I’d probably pass on reading it.
I was really excited about reading this book, because I saw it on a popular Instagram book page. And it was a mistake. Trashy, poorly, written, and the readers (I listened to the audiobook) were terrible actors. But to be fair, I am not sure how much depth they could’ve gotten from the conscience they were working with. I think this book is a series and you will not hear about me reading book 2 or even three…
Mister Librarian by B. Love — Ooo, Mr. Librarian! This was the perfect short and sweet romance. Kahlil finds Honey crying in his library, and despite both of them being a bit reserved, a quiet connection begins to grow between them. Just as their relationship deepens, Kahlil’s past resurfaces and threatens everything they’ve built. But together, they face the challenges and come out stronger. A heartfelt and uplifting love story!
I enjoyed the first 3 chapters, but this book was not for me. This author does have a distinctive writing style that is commendable. The storyline got boring about 20% in, and the female main character irked my nerves.
Can we say yes to mysterious, take charge, I'll do anything for you black male librarians? I wonder if my husband wants to go to back to college for his Library Science degree.
His name may be Khalil, but to Honey...he's Mr. Librarian. Khalil and Honey meet when they both are recovering from some traumatic events in their lives, but there is this instantaneous connection that pulls the two of them together. Yes they both love books, but it's deeper than that. Their souls connected. They were a balm to each other's pain and even when not talking about it seemed best, they did so anyway because of this connection. Even when things became heated and the past of the "library" came calling, Honey decided that she was taking control, the control she'd once lost back and was riding with her Librarian protector. A great solid read at 4.5 stars and what the Librarian does, he didn't learn that from a book!
The cover alone was enticing enough to read. But, ladies oh, my goodness! The story had hot moments, serious moments and a few sad ones. Mr. Librarian was something else. He owned a library rare books and had a deeper side to who he was in the mean streets of Memphis. The love story part was hubba, hubba, hot! He was Not your ordinary Librarian, who met a lover of books adamantly seeking a place of solise to sooth her soul. They each received just what they needed at the right time. The suspense and the other plot in the story made this a five star read for me.
I hadn't been able to read from this author for a while but when I saw the title and cover, I had to dive in. Best decision. I truly enjoyed the engaging storyline filled with the right dose of suspense and the right amount of chemistry that lit up the pages. Honey went through severe trauma that almost had her missing out on the love of her life. From the very beginning, Khalil was a protector and his tenderness towards Honey launched the healing process for both of them. They were so good for each other and I absolutely cheered for them all the way to the end. This author owes me nothing. This book was everything I needed and more.
