I received an electronic ARC from Viking Books for Young Readers through Edelweiss+. Humorous book for beginning readers. This child takes a sled ride down a mountain and picks up some interesting friends along the way. Since he can't steer the sled, he runs into various animals and a baker as he travels down the mountain. Young readers will laugh at the various passengers who end up in the sled. The text is simple to follow and repetitive enough for early readers to enjoy this one by themselves. Brightly colored, simpler illustrations help readers pick up cues to read unfamiliar words. Terrific winter read for families and younger classes.
A little boy takes a wild sled ride down a mountain.
A boy begins sledding down a mountain only to encounter a series of obstacles directly in this path. After being struck, a rabbit, a snowman, a penguin, a moose, and a baker join the boy on the sled. Finally, the sled goes off a cliff, but luckily everyone lands safely in a snow drift below.
This picture book has simple text and repetitive phrases.
The illustration style reminded me of Dan Yaccarino.
"Go, Sled! GO!" is sure to be a hit with young listeners/readers during a winter-themed story time. The bold text and illustrations lend themselves to sharing with a large(r) audience, and some moments are sure to elicit laughs.
Publication Date: 2022 Format: Picture book Elements: Limited text, including speech bubbles; repetition; bold illustrations; humor Connection/Topics: Sledding, winter play
Lots of shouting of long vowels might be fun for a few pages, especially for two-year-olds whose favorite word is NO, but the illustrations of the various scenes in this cumulative story are too small for readers to be involved in the action, even as the sled careens off the cliff and everyone gets dumped in a drift.
The sled starts down the mountain and picks up passengers along the way. The graphics are good, the text is sparse, the story is fun. This might work in a group setting so will revisit when planning a winter storytime.
With minimal text and simple illustrations, this is an exciting, high energy picture book about a young child picking up a number of passengers while sledding downhill. A fun book to read on a snowy day!
This is a great book for beginning readers to read with some difficult words to practice their phonics skills. It also made me giggle a few times which is always a plus!
