The Only You

A one-sided crush that turns into romance after ten years sounds like the perfect setup for a soft, fluffy love story. While the premise is appealing, the execution doesn’t quite deliver the warmth / charm one would expect from such a storyline.

The novel misses out on the “fluffiness” that could have promoted it into a memorable romantic read. At times, the narration feels a bit too dry—almost like a documentary—rather than hauling the reader into emotions / chemistry.

That said, it remains a decent / easy read. It just feels somewhat bland, especially when compared to what this genre usually promises.

It was a gentle and comfortable read.

The unrequited love of Ruan Mian was a bittersweet memory of her youth. I think it is not regrettable at all — holding on to someone you dearly liked, doing things just for him to finally look back at you, and finally accepting the ending or the lack of. They might seem naive at such age, but they all require courage. Ruan Mian was brave. I'm glad she finally got her happy ending.
