3rd January 2026:
✨️4 Stars✨️
Oh my goodness... The last third of this book made my rating go from 3 to 4 stars. Full review to come...
5th January 2026 update:
Kimberley Woodhouse is a strong Christian, and you can tell by her writing in this wonderful novel. She does something a lot of modern Christian authors do not do- she does not try to sound like the world!
Set in 1889 at the very beginning, then 1907 the rest of the book, this novel follows the life of Julia Schultz, from childhood to young womanhood. Orphaned at a young age, she feels unwanted as she is tossed from one family to the next, unsure of what family and friendship and love really looks like. She knows hardly anything than the stories she makes up to try to gain friends and must learn how to keep them. becomes a Harvey Girl- a waitress at El Tovar, and begins to meet one person after another, who show her that she is worthy of God's love, and their love. In the pages, she learns of a legend of hidden jewels, and finds both temporal and eternal treasure through many hardships, triumphs, joys, and sorrows.
I will remember this tale for a long time to come. And I look forward to reading the other two novels in the series!

The writing style is very simple.
The voices of the characters are too modernized.
