After accidentally destroying the intricate chalice her people have treasured for over a hundred years, Charlotte Durand sets out on an expedition in search of a skilled artisan who can repair the damage. What she expected to be a two-day hike becomes much more daunting when a treacherous snowstorm sets in.
The last thing Damien Levette needs in the middle of a mountain blizzard is to tend to another person, but he can't leave behind the mysterious woman he found half-frozen at the edge of a mountain lake.
As they battle both the elements and each other, Charlotte and Damien must work together to survive the peril of the mountains--or it could be the downfall of them both.

MY THOUGHTS ON A Daughter’s Courage Charlotte Durand and Damien Levette had no idea anyone else was on the Mountain. Charlotte was on a quick trip and didn’t expect the snow storm and Damien didn’t expect to run upon a half frozen person, and a woman of all things. But it happened, and what a journey it was. And all because Charlotte drops an old treasure into a fire causing so much damage, but she has to fix it. Someway. It’s too important to she and her village. So she heads off to the one place that just maybe someone can fix it. And so the journey begins.
And what a journey it is. When I see a Misty Beller book up for review, I grab it. I know that with her books, there will be heartstopping adventure, with characters that go through so much that I’m actually scared for them. I have stayed up many nights finishing a Beller book, just as I did with this one. A Daughter’s Courage is book three in Brides of Laurent series and I sure hope this is another long series like some of her others. I don’t want to say anything about the story that will give anything away, so if you enjoy a fantastic historical in treacherous mountain conditions, you have to try this book, and really the entire series. If you read one Misty Beller book, you are hooked for life. This one gets Five Stars from me and I wishbi could give it more.
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
A Daughter’s Courage was a tale full of adventure. Charlotte was a character who I felt began the story with a rather naive perspective about the world she lived in. She simply did not realize how dangerous the trek across the wilderness would be for anyone, let alone a woman traveling by herself. She never even contemplated that the fort could also house dangers, as well. She also was incredibly stubborn and did not listen easily to the advice of Damien regarding incoming weather and other dangers. However, Charlotte learned a lot while on this journey and her eyes were opened about many things. I grew to really like her.
I also liked Damien. Although I did not always agree with his decisions, I appreciated that he wanted to help Charlotte and keep her safe. He proved himself to be a very honorable and kind man and it was a joy to watch a true friendship develop between the two that then grew into love.
It was great to see some characters from the earlier stories, yet I feel that this novel could also be enjoyed on its own even if you haven’t read the first two books of the series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Wonderful series! Bellar's best yet! I hope this author never stops writing. I just love her so much! Third in this series, Charlotte's story ended up being my favorite. Very nice paced and will keep your attention the whole way through! I didn't want to put the book down it was so good! All the good feels for an excellent cosy read. 5 stars for a heart felt read that will keep you turning the pages until the end. And the cover is absolutely gorgeous! Wow! Draws you in immediately! I highly recommend! My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
'Lord, I want to trust you. I'm not sure if I can. Give me the desire to place this in your hands.'
I love history, always have. I love the historical writing of Misty Beller, too. Very much. Her series of a village hidden in caves in the mountains is so good. Her descriptions are so vivid, it seems as if the reader is right there in the book with her characters. I have enjoyed this series very much. I look forward to what Beller has in store for her readers next.
My thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book via Net Galley. The opinion here is my own.
The writing is good. The story and setting are appealing. Dialogue is pretty good too. Just that I cannot get over the string of foolishness in the main characters’ decisions, and I was not convinced about why they would make those decisions. That rather spoiled things for me, I’m afraid.
The spiritual element is good, but felt to me to be rather tagged on at the end.
I will be looking out for more of this author’s work.
This author captures my attention from beginning to end with her creative writing style, setting, and characters. Such a well rounded combination of everything that makes for a great read. I love visiting Laurent again as most of these characters are like old friends and I was so happy Charlotte has her own story. Damien is the perfect hero to match her and watching the dance they create is like poetry in motion. Lots of adventure and exciting situations to keep you engrossed. I absolutely love the family connections and sense of community that supports and cares for each other. Then you have the beautiful way faith is woven within that makes the story have that powerful punch. I highly recommend this imaginative book and series. I’m just sad to see it end. I received a complimentary copy from the author/publisher. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
Misty M. Beller has crafted another sweetly romantic story of adventure, faith, and love in A Daughter’s Courage. I will miss these characters and the unique setting of Laurent, but I have greatly enjoyed this series and I look forward to reading many more of Beller’s stories. 4/5 stars
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is a great adventure reading experience. I really enjoy this author's books and the characters that she develops. As Charlotte heads to a fort two days away, she runs into lots of unexpected trials. As well as a man she doesn't know whether to trust or not. Yet, she has little choice as a serious snowstorm causes them to find shelter. It's a very enthralling book that will keep you reading till the end. The characters are such that you really enjoy reading about them. This entire series has been one that I feel so lucky to have read. I love the hidden village in the caves and the people that find refuge there. I love how Charlotte and Damien are not perfect, but good people who have their individual struggles. I really liked the book and look forward to the author's future works.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts are my own.
Finally got around to this one- it has been a few years since I read the first two books but references to the characters reminded me of enough! I enjoyed this adventure of survival in the snow as two strangers forge an incredible bond as they protect one another. The adventure of it all kept me turning the pages and I enjoyed the developing feelings between the characters. Of course, the mark of a good book I kept yelling at them to be honest with one another- it would have saved them so much trouble!
I received a complementary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. I was not asked to leave a positive review and my opinions are my own.
Charlotte Durand damages a chalice that she hopes can be repair by leaving her village to travel to another one where she hopes to find a talented blacksmitht to repair the damage, but she instead meets Damien Levette, a trapper who is traveling with his mule, Gulliver.
A Daughter’s Courage started out slow for me, and there was a lot of telling and not a lot of dialogue to carry the story, but it ended up aiding to develop the relationship between Damien and Charlotte. It was nice to see both of their strengths as they battled through the outdoor elements.
I liked A Daughters Courage, and even though it started out slow for me, as the characters grew in courage I couldn’t help but root for their success in their endeavors. Damien is stalwart, steady, and gentle. He makes mistakes but he is an honorable man, and he clearly sees all of Charlotte’s strengths and weaknesses and isn’t scared of what a strong woman she is, in fact, it’s clear that it’s one of those attributes that attracts him to her. An enjoyable read!
My gratitude to NetGalley and Bethany House Publishers. All opinions are mine.
A Daughter's Courage by Misty M. Beller is a great historical fiction and romance that is the third book in the Brides of Laurent series. I really enjoyed this one.
This is the third book in this series, but the first entry that I have read. It cam easily be a stand alone, however I think I will search for the first two books and see if by reading the history of the secondary and addition characters, I might end up getting a more well-rounded image of the concept and overarching themes of the series. I think it would make this book even better!
I enjoyed the two main characters of Charlotte and Damien. Both are brought together during a snowstorm amd with concerns and troubles involving their current lives and pasts. Both are likable and relatable characters amd both are flawed. It is while in isolation due to weather, that both are able to open up and work through their worries and trials externally and internally. While relying on the kindness of a stranger, they both learn to overcome their fears and learn to have faith again. In the process of overcoming anger, hurt, fear, loss, and uncertainty, they are able to find friendship, love, acceptance, forgiveness, and a future. I really enjoyed the process that they experienced and their struggles that they were able to address. Those concepts in addition to the subtle themes of religion and faith that I was able to tie into, really made the book for me.
A great book for anyone that enjoys romance with their historical fiction.
4.5/5 stars
Thank you NG and Bethany House Publishers for this wonderful arc and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this review to my GR and Bookbub accounts immediately and will post it to my Amazon, Instagram, and B&N accounts upon publication on 11/1/22.
Fabulous fabulous book. She has an accident with an heirloom that the whole village loves, And so she tries to go to a village close to fix it. Gets lost — meets a trapper who says he will guide her there — but instead he tries to take her home - doesn’t tell her and she does not trust him. What can happen in a blizzard? Lots and lots of snow!!! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and comments are my own
Great story! I loved Damien and the mysteriousness that was lent to his background. He was a hurt and struggling, yet strong and determined man. Charlotte was a heroine worthy of the title, tentative, yet courageous and full of love and care for those around her. This was such a sweet and exciting book and I am thrilled to have gotten the chance to journey along with these characters as they came to learn just exactly who they were to the God Who created them!
While each of the books in this series can be read on its own, I would definitely recommend reading them in order to get to know the community and its members as each story builds on the next a bit. I've loved the mysterious concept of this group of people living so isolated from society in a network of caves. Naturally some of the younger people begin to feel interest about the outside world, and while Charlotte is a nurturer and excellent cook, she takes the journey to fix her mistake without hesitation. She had been a bit sheltered and comes across as naive in the beginning, but learns so much being stranded and fighting for survival alongside Damien. He makes a timely appearance and has secrets of his own, which are revealed slowly as he and Charlotte grow closer together and explore faith, companionship, and their own individual struggles.

If there's one thing Misty M. Beller knows how to do well it's a good winter adventure with a small cast of characters. I've come to expect the way that it not only allows the reader to get to know the hero and heroine, but it also amps of the tension of just two people facing the elements, dependent only on each other and God. A Daughter's Courage brings all of that to the forefront just as the previous books in the Brides Of Laurent series have.
I will be honest, Charlotte annoyed me to no end through at least the first half of the book. Her persistent stubbornness to at times stupidity puts them both in danger more than once. On the other hand, Damien is surprisingly patient in spite of everything and seems to only see the best in her.
I have to say that I couldn't have read this cold winter adventure story at a more fitting time. A couple of feet of snow is on the ground and more is predicted. It really brought the icy wind and the biting chill of the water to life. It also made me very glad to be sitting in a warm house with a fuzzy blanket and a cup of hot tea.
A Daughter's Courage turned out to be an enjoyable read as is any Misty M. Beller novel. She's done a great job with her Brides Of Laurent series and you can't help but want to learn more about mysterious small community hidden for a century inside a mountain in the Canadian wilderness. Just make sure you don't miss any of the books in the series...
(I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
The isolated community of Laurent is downright enchanting. This introvert is intrigued by the idea of living in the side of a mountain but maybe not with so many CLOSE neighbors.
Quiet Charlotte is a kindred spirit of mine (although she's an exceedingly superior cook). I love that her story has an intimate vibe away from the security and comfort of all she has ever known. Damien's deep grief and persistent feelings of worthlessness tugged at my heart strings until I thought they would fray yet I admire his determination to protect and his beautiful vulnerability when finally peeks through.
The mule is absolutely the icing on the cake in this sweet story. Beller gifts him with a wonderful personality and steady nature and I love him. I highly recommend The Brides of Laurent series!
I purchased this title and the opinions expressed are my own.
3.5 stars " The porcelain skin, the refined features - how could he not have realized this was a woman from his very first glance? . . . . And why was she out in this storm?"
Determined to locate an engraver skilled enough to repair her village's historic chalice before anyone discovered the damage she had accidentally inflicted, Charlotte Durand slips away from her family early one dawn and begins the slow trek across neighboring mountains towards Fort Versailles. Unfortunately, the weather does not cooperate and Charlotte finds herself dependent upon a young trapper who happens upon her half-frozen body. Carefully skirting the true reason for her trip, Charlotte unsuccessfully tries to convince Damien Levette to allow her to warm up and continue on, but the stubborn man insists on accompanying her, as a guide of sorts. It seems they both have secrets.
Everything about this series conclusion exudes quality; beautifully paced and finely plotted, the two main characters spend enough time together to discover hidden strengths which neither of them knew they had. Especially Damien. Watching him grow into the life God intended for him to live, while observing Charlotte's joy at finding the sort of man whom she feared would never cross her path . . . . well, it all adds up to a really good story. ( But wait! We can't leave out Gulliver!!!)
"When He looks at you, He's pleased. And because of that, you are not second best to any other. . . . You needn't fear the opinion of anyone else. "
I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.
Very contrived, unrealistic story filled with foolish decisions that felt necessary in order to come up with some sort of plot. Obviously this genre isn't for me but there wasn't any other book at hand and I can't be without reading material.
In A Daughter’s Courage, Charlotte, a quiet but determined young woman, sets out to find a skilled artist to repair a prized chalice that she accidentally damages. As Charlotte makes the trek to the closest fort, she gets caught in an unexpected snow storm and meets Damien, a fur trapper who’s still grieving the loss of his twin sister. Charlotte and Damien must rely on each other to survive the harsh weather as they make their way to safety.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters in this book, especially Damien. He was a likable hero from the start. What didn’t line up for me though was the author’s portrayal of him in the beginning as hard to get along with and “ill humored”. I understood the reason for it, but it didn’t fit his considerate, helpful, and mostly patient behavior, in my opinion. The situations the characters experienced provided excitement and kept me reading. My interest did wane a little bit about two-thirds of the way through but not for long. I quickly got back into the story, eager to see what happened.
This is the first book I’ve read by Misty M. Beller. It was an enjoyable read overall, and I look forward to reading more from this author. Thank you to NetGalley and Bethany House Publishers for an advanced reader copy of this book. This is an honest review, and all opinions are my own.
Misty M. Beller delivers another wonderful Historical Romance set in the Canadian Rockies that made me travel in time with my imagination! Charlotte Durand (Brielle’s younger sister from Book 1) lives in Laurent, a secret village hidden for more than a hundred years in the caves of the mountains of the French part of Canada. Her father is one of the Chiefs of the village and she has accidentally damaged a historic chalice that has belonged to their people for a very long time. Worried about disappointing her people, she decides to travel alone to Fort Versailles, where she can find an engraver who will be able to repair it. Leaving a note that she left to visit neighboring friends, she sets to trek along the mountains in the most inclement weather and with a blizzard coming. Thankfully, Damien Levette, a lonely trapper wandering the mountains, finds her and rescues her. And now, how can she leave her to fend for herself in the elements? He decides to accompany until she arrives to her destiny safe and sound. But their journey will prove more dangerous than what they imagine and they will have to fight for their life and watch out for one another. Charlotte is on a mission, she is not looking for romance, less with a stranger. And Damien is still grieving the loss of his twin sister, and knows he is not good company to anyone in his somber mood. But Charlotte stirs in him feelings and a protectiveness he had never felt. Is there a chance, not only for survival but for a love like non other in the midst of the mountains? This was a beautiful and touching historical romance! Ms. Beller is excellent at vividly portraying natural settings and I was immersed in the middle of the snowed mountains. It was not a fast-paced story, but it never felt dragging and there was enough action in the story to keep me captivated until the end. Charlotte and Damien were relatable characters. Charlotte was a bit stubborn at first, but I liked how she grew through the story, and how courageous she was to make that dangerous danger without being afraid. Damien, my heart ached for him. His loss was still so raw. But he was humble and kindhearted. And I loved how he’s so protective of Charlotte throughout the story. The way they both speak to God was so inspiring. And the sense of community of the villagers was touching too. A story of loss and love, of healing and inner peace. And I loved the ending, the romance was so sweet! I recommend this story to Historical Romance lovers! The whole series! A beautiful mountain saga! I received a complimentary book from Bethany House but wasn’t required to post a positive review. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
I'm not exactly sure what I want to say about A Daughter's Courage. Misty M Beller is sometimes hit or miss for me. I didn't love the first book in this series, but I enjoyed book 2 much better than the first. I decided to go ahead and check out book 3, and I landed somewhere in the middle with my feelings on it.
Charlotte is quiet, yet stubborn. And proud too. Admitting when we've made a mistake is quite difficult sometimes. Yet so much could have been avoided if only she'd talked to her father from the beginning. Of course, that wouldn't have been much of a story, would it? Damien wants to be alone. He's still grieving his twin sister's death. And yet he can't stop himself from helping Charlotte when he sees her out in a snow storm on her own.
One of my issues with A Daughter's Courage is how similar it is to other stories both in this series and in Beller's Hearts of Montana series. Two people on a journey in the mountain wilderness surviving by themselves and dependent upon each other.
My other and perhaps biggest issue was the lack of dialogue within the first half of the book between the two main characters. Yes Charlotte is quiet and Damien appreciates this quality about her, but two people need to talk in order to develop more than just an attraction to each other. Beller tells us that the two talked about this subject or that subject at one point, but the actual dialogue was lacking for a large portion of the story.
I enjoyed A Daughter's Courage. I didn't speed through it, but it didn't seem to drag on either. The only problems I had revolved around the lack of dialogue in the first portion of the book which led to a tell vs show issue and that the story was very similar to what I've read of Beller's work in the past. I rooted for the characters, and I enjoyed their growth. In the end, A Daughter's Courage gets 3 Stars. Have you read A Daughter's Courage? What did you think? Let me know!
Genre: Historical Romance Time Period: 1817 Location: Canadian Rockies Romance: Very clean. Light kissing. Faith: Seamless woven into the story. Both characters exhibit spiritual growth throughout the story. Strong message of God’s love for His children.
Misty Beller brought this sweet series to a wonderful and satisfying end by following Charlotte Durand. I enjoyed the way Misty developed the culture of Laurent with excellent detail throughout the series, giving them century-old traditions. She’s brought elements of what fantasy writers do (world building) into the history of the village of Laurent while staying true to the historical fiction genre. Such a delightfully unique series, that I’m sad to see it end.
The author wasted no time pulling the reader into the story. The setup of Charlotte’s plight happened quickly. I instantly connected with her. Though Charlotte’s naivete got her into trouble, it fit with her upbringing in a small, isolated village.
I loved Damien’s character. Beller revealed his rich backstory throughout the novel, keeping the reader interested and engaged in his development. He is an excellent protector, wise to the ways of the world, while struggling with his own emotions and self-worth. The author did a tremendous job wrapping up his growth perfectly, highlighting God’s love for him.
The romance between the two characters developed sweetly throughout the entire novel with just the right amount of tension at the right time.
While I noticed a few similarities between this book and the first two in the series, Beller added additional elements and twists in a relatively limiting setting. She rose to the challenge splendidly, spinning an enjoyable story.
I strongly recommend this book, along with the entire series, to fans of historical romance. I appreciate Beller chose a unique period (post-War of 1812) and a refreshing setting. If you like stories of the American and Canadian frontier, you will enjoy this story.
The author does an amazing job of taking readers back in time to 1817. There we can picture snow covering the mountains as a harsh winter has come. I loved Charlotte and desire to help her father around the village. While cleaning one day she damages a precious item that is treasured by her and the village. She was so afraid to confess to her papa that she runs away determined to find someone to repair it. I don’t think she was thinking clearly when she finds herself in weather that was unbearable to endure. She will find a lesson waiting for her in the story which we all can use sometime. Charlotte learns to trust her father and lean on others when she is in trouble. We can’t do everything by ourselves and Charlotte finds out God has sent someone to help her.
Damien was my favorite character because he was humble, strong and searching for happiness. After losing his sister he seems to be lost and not sure what to do next. When he and Charlotte meet it is under circumstances that force them to join up in order to survive the dangers in the wild. It did take a bit of time for both of them to warm up to each other. I liked how Damien became protective of Charlotte and treated her respectfully.
The author allows these two characters to slowly get to know each other and I liked the pace of their relationship. As they start to trust each other they face danger on their journey. The author described the weather so well, I grabbed a blanket as I read the book. I loved how Damien came to understand that God loved Him. We sometimes think we disappoint others or God, but we need to remember that God is pleased with us. He loves us and delights in us. I loved the illustration that shows when we feel discouraged , God is there to lift us up.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Impressive Courage Bestselling author of romantic mountain stories Misty M. Beller presents "A Daughter's Courage", the third book in the "Brides of Laurent" series, published by Bethany House Publishers. The story takes place in Rupert's Land in the Rocky Mountains of Canada in 1817. Charlotte Durand is living with her father Hugo in a hidden village. He likes to see her married but she does not like the man he has chosen. In an accidents Charlotte damages a valuable and treasured chalice that her people have treasured for over a hundred years. She sets out to the ford in order to find somebody who can repair it. She thinks it would be a two-day hike but it turns out into much more due to a blizzard. Luckily Damien Levette finds her although he is not happy about this new gained responsibility. In reality they need one another in order to survive although Damien plans to do anything in order to prevent that Charlotte reaches the ford because he considers it not save for her to go there alone. Taking all these challenges into account the question is: will Charlotte be able to get the chalice repaired? This is the second book I have read by Beller. Although it is the third book in the series it can be also read as a stand-alone. I really enjoyed it since it should the impressive courage of Charlotte. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy Christian Historical Fiction and Christian Historical Romance. The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #ADaughtersCourage #Netgalley
Ever open a book and find yourself immersed immediately? A Daughter's Courage by Misty M. Beller is one of those books. The drama just built until I wanted to keep reading and keep reading. I just had to know what would happen next. It seemed such an impossible situation to be in.
The setting is the French Canadian wilderness. In the 1800s. Much of the action is within the thoughts of the characters and their conversations. The struggles face alone and together reveal and build on their characters as they face in the wild snowy wilderness, and the creatures in, it in an attempt to get to safety. How they survived the snow and cold is beyond me. I'm practically shivering in my office now with jeans and a sweatshirt on, and it's about 66 degrees in here!
I thought this book showed different ways that God can work through difficult circumstances to bring us back to him and help us begin the deep healing process in a way that only He can accomplish.
I thought the star of the novel was the father. I loved the calmness with which he faced adversity, the way he dealt with his daughter's actions, and spoke into Damien's life.
The ending, while similar to what I expected, also completely surprised me.
Bottom line: A Daughter's Courage is well worth your reading time. I felt it enriched me, but I still don't know how they didn't freeze to death!

Such a beautiful story of fixing your mistakes, while coming to terms with losing a loved one, all while being in close proximity with a total stranger.
It never disappointed, and once you thought there was no more unexpected things to happen, another thing happened. I couldn’t put it down. I finished it in one night. Missed sleep, but it was so worth it.
Damien. He lost all his parents and his sister who was under his care. Blaming himself. Then, he met Charlotte. He couldn’t help but want to protect her. But meeting her was the best thing for him. She helped him move on with his grief and helped him be able to draw again. And oh my goodness. The scene where he draws her…was so cute.
Charlotte. She has a lot to live up to with her sister being Brielle. She has no talent, except cooking. When she meets Damien on the journey to fix her mistake, he praises her cooking. Honestly, that was so cute. Anyway, Damien was the perfect person for her, trying to keep her safe and making her feel special.
Damien and Charlotte were the perfect people for each other. God works in mysterious ways. God brought them together by a broken chalice and a grieving wandering spirit.
I loved Beller’s writing style. But I really liked the village that she made, and the use of the mountains. They weren’t obstacles; they were shelter. Absolutely loved it all.
This was a clean read.
Disclaimer: I requested and received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers her through Interview and Reviews. All the opinions are my own.
Charlotte Durand accidentally damages the village’s beloved chalice and wants to fix it before people find out and are upset. Charlotte sets out on her own, not thinking of anything more than going to the nearest fort that would have people who might be able to help. What ensues is Charlotte’s arduous journey with the help of Damien Leyette, a stranger who rescues her from a deadly situation.
Charlotte was such a strong and determined young lady. I admired her for the love that she had for her father and her village that she would go to such lengths to try and have the chalice fixed.
I found the village of Laurent that was Charlotte’s home to be intriguing since it was hidden inside a mountain. What would that have been like to be secluded and living there? Damien would be the perfect fit for Charlotte and the people of this unique town. I would like to have had the author’s notes on how she came up with the idea. Was it based upon a real place?
I enjoyed the surprising revelation of the chalice. This was a terrific way of bringing things together at the end of the book. I recommend reading this book if you like westerns, books with characters of faith, and/or stories of adventure. While this is book three in the Brides of Laurent series, it can be read as a stand alone. I have not read any of the other books and had no difficulty following the storyline.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley and Celebrate Lit. All opinions expressed are my own.
Misty M. Beller is a favorite author of mine and I am always excited to read her new releases. A Daughter’s Courage is book 3 in the Brides of Laurent series. I read Book 1 in the series and I was excited to read Book 3.
The time is 1817 in the Canadian Rockies. Charlotte Durand has set out on a journey to find a skilled worker to repair a treasured chalice that she accidently broke. She wasn't prepared for the Snowstorm that would hinder her journey. She thought it would take 2 days, but now she is cold and trapped alongside the Mountain Lake. Damien Levette, a local trapper, is worried for Charlotte when he finds her alongside the Lake. He wasn't anticipating having to help someone else during the Blizzard, but he knows he can't leave her alone. Will Damien and Charlotte survive the cold and the Snowstorm? Will Charlotte find someone to fix the Treasured Chalice?
WOW, this has to be the BEST book by Misty M. Beller that I have read. Charlotte is a very strong woman and very independent. She really loves her Village and her People. Damien is a strong man and has a heart for others. I really LOVED seeing them work together to survive the storm and cold. The friendship that grew over time was so special. This story is one of strength, perseverance, trust, forgiveness and faith, I was captivated by the story from the very first page and did not put it down until I finished! I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Fiction! FANTASTIC BOOK!
I love this author. Her books are excellent historical fiction novels that take you back in time and place. I have never read a book by her that I haven’t loved. In fact, I tend to pass on her books when I have physical copies because I’ve gotten my friends and family hooked on them as well!
In this book, we delve deeper into Charlotte and her story. We met her in book one of this series. Even though this is in a series you can read it as a stand-alone book as well if you wish. Why you’d want to only read one book when you could read multiple I’ll never know though!
Both Charlotte and Damien have stories that need to be shared. While I didn’t love everything about them I did enjoy peeling back their layers and seeing what made each what they are now. Charlotte throws caution to the wind to go get the chalice fixed. What she doesn’t realize is that danger could be in her path. She didn’t even think about it! Guys! That was hard for me to swallow because I have anxiety and I always think of everything that could possibly go wrong before I do anything! I can’t believe not everyone does that. Anyway. this is an amazing read and I hope you enjoy going along for the journey.

After accidentally destroying the intricately carved chalice her people have treasured for over a hundred years, Charlotte Durand sets out in search of a skilled artisan who can repair the damage. What she expected to be a two-day trek becomes much more daunting when a treacherous snowstorm sets in.
Searching for solitude and respite from his troubling past, the last thing Damien Levette needs in the middle of a mountain blizzard is to tend to another person, but he can't leave behind the mysterious woman he found half frozen at the edge of a mountain lake.
As they battle both the elements and their distrust of each other, Charlotte and Damien must work together to survive the peril of the mountains--or it could be the downfall of them both. My review: This book didn't hold my interest as I was reading. The story line was ok. Girl goes off into the wilderness, not really knowing where she is going or what she will run into. Boy is running away from life. They run into each other and try to survive a blizzard. This book almost seemed like a repeat of other books I have read. Would I recommend this book? Maybe if you were looking for a very light read. The first two books in this series were better and kept me reading.
If you haven't read the first books in the series, you need to read them. The information about the village is very sketchy in this book. Without the back information I think you would be lost.
I was given this book by Bethany House Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
