LOVED this book! I used it as a daily devotional, I’d read a chapter and journal for the questions that were at end of each chapter. So many great & tough questions asked! Lots of filtering through motives from our human perspective vs motives from a heavenly perspective. Many chapters challenge you to sit in disagreements, differing opinions, hurt, and challenges, instead of running or resorting to toxic communication ( i.e. blowing up or giving silent treatment) This book approaches differences, with the goal of community, connection and healthy communication in our various relationships. I love the vantage point that running from disagreement is the last thing Jesus would do, unless it’s retreating to pray.
This is a special book — I've been touched by some of the stories shared in the chapters...and have carried those stories with me in moments of my own hardship. This books reminds us of what we all hope to be true: that we are not alone and that nothing is to hard to hold hope.
This is a book you could pick up, read a chapter, put down and repeat. Each chapter stands alone. A good read looking at others stories of hurts and facing reconciliation in a God filled way.
2.5 stars. This is a bunch of blogs on the topic of the title compiled into one book with chapter questions. Extremely modern in feel (lots of references to Covid and assumptions about racism in America). Some essays were better than others. When I saw it was discounted on an audiobook site this month, I tried it first on hoopla to see if I should buy it. It’s good once.
I didn't know what to expect from this book but I loved the honest and transparent stories. Each author told of a relationship that featured disagreements or differences. They told of broken friendships, difficult marriages, and wounded parent/child relationships. In each case, the author didn't give a pat answer or easy solution but told of how patience and love and forgiveness made a difference. They offered encouragement and comfort from God's Word. Even though I wasn't sure I would relate to this book, I'm keeping it on my shelf because I know there will be a time when I need to review its encouragement.
This books is encouraging as it reminds us of our shared human experience and the challenges we all face in life. The authors of, Come Sit with Me, point us to the faithfulness of God in all seasons.
