“Taking Control” aims to provide a guidance for Muslim women who are trying to conceive. Author Farah Dualeh, who herself has tried to conceive for many years, shares her personal experience along with psychological tools to cope with this traumatic ordeal for women who struggle to become mothers. Dualeh also gives extensive content from Islamic perspective, including rulings on certain issues, as well as prayers. In this book, women who are trying to conceive will be encouraged to take control of their infertility experience at different * within themselves * within their marriage * in relation to social pressures * on treatment options * and on what their family can look like (even when different from the 'norm')
This is a very interesting and in-depth book about infertility for Muslim couples.
I really wish I’d read this book at the start of my journey but even now so many years in, I found it very useful.
It really goes into depth with exercise and testimonials of Muslim women going through their infertility journey.
I would have loved to hear from some husbands and their perspective on infertility in this book but since this is more focused on Muslim women, I think this is a book that couples can read and discuss together for sure.
“Taking Control” by Farah Dualeh came into my life at a time when I was grappling with the deep emotional weight of infertility. It was gifted to me with love, and I can wholeheartedly say it was one of the most healing and empowering reads I’ve ever come across. Farah’s words resonated so deeply with me — her insight, vulnerability, and strength shine through every page.
This book didn’t just offer me comfort; it gave me clarity. Through the personal stories and reflections within it, I found myself slowly piecing my heart back together. It inspired me to take a brave and hopeful step forward — to explore adoption. Alhamdulilah, reading Taking Control was the turning point that helped me embrace a new path to motherhood with peace and purpose.
I was so moved by the book that I reached out to Farah herself — and I can honestly say she is one of the most beautiful souls I’ve ever come across, both inside and out. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support have been a pivotal part of my journey through adoption. She truly lives the message she shares in her book.
This is more than just a book — it’s a companion for every woman navigating infertility or walking the often unpredictable path to parenthood. A treasure trove of strength, compassion, and guidance. A must-read, and a must-gift.
Subhanallah! What an amazing book, purchased off my husbands account (LOL). Wish I had my hands on this sooner, I have highlighted and labelled literally everything and made notes to refer too for when I come on period, duaas, when I get triggered by announcments / how to respond to people. This book literally is the PLUG and its the best gift I have ever given to myself thank you so much Farrah! All the best coaching skills and coping mechanisms in one. I pray that we all get our beautiful healthy baby and look back just feeling so proud how far we have all come and making the most out of life. This is literally what this book delivers; to have fun and make the most out of life. Thank you Farrah, a huge eye opener with a great islamic touch. We needed you! Thank you for being so real.
This is such an incredible book! Infertility is such a lonely journey so I can not stress how important talking about such issues (especially within our Muslim community) is so needed! Although everyone’s infertility journey is so unique, Farah has done such a great job writing a book that is so relatable. She shares her personal journey, a range of tools to apply in your own life, duas to read, guidance to help live a happy life through such a difficult time and much more! If you’re personally going through infertility, or know someone close to you that is, than this book is for you!
Reading this book has put a huge smile on face as I know how many Muslim women worldwide will benefit from this message. A thoughtful, well written, introspective piece of art. The book itself holds a lot of information that is of good use to the Muslim community and it’s amazing to see it represented so well, I especially enjoyed chapter 10 reading about others TTC journey and it was great to hear it from the mens perspective.
My therapist recommended me this book. I cry, nod, and smile along the time I read. SubhanAllah. I wish I found this book sooner but better late than never. Reading this book makes my heart even bigger now that I have many spaces to store my anger, my hope, my dream, and most importantly to accept myself. Thank you, Farah.
