Shyness can make us feel isolated, and it's inherently difficult to talk about, yet half of all humans consider themselves shy.

Shyness is not weakness, nor a shameful secret. Let's own our shyness, and work with it in the face of the loud, outgoing idea of success. It's time for a softer, more considered approach. Shy people have unique qualities and skills, so let's nurture and appreciate them.

Nadia Finer gives shy people the support and understanding they need to step out of the shadows. This book is full of easy to follow advice, backed up by first-hand experiences from fellow shy people. Nadia shares insights from scientists and psychologists to help explain the reasons behind shyness, and gives us top tips to help navigate the most challenging situations.

This book was not at all what I thought it was going to be, nor did it seem to fulfil its sub-title of "How to step out if the shaddows and kive a bjgger life".

I did not enjoy the way the book was structured. The author kept presenting ideas, for example the fact that your conscious mind might want to get on stage and sing but if your unconscious mind is not feeling it then it's going to be difficult to achieve. But then, having explained that she doesn't go on to give a plan of action to get your subconscious mind onside.

Similarly, there's a chapter on an overactive amygdala sensing danger when you're just trying to present in a meeting. But there is no action plan for how to calm that amygdala.

The first half of the book is all these little snippets that have you saying, "Oh yes that sounds familiar. What can I do about it?" And then it just jumps on to the next topic. As I continued through the first half (starting to skip quite large sections as I went) I presumed that all the actual answers and action plans were in the second half of the book, alas that was not the case.

165 pages in, and I was still just being told it's okay to be shy if we can just harness what that means. "When we own our shyness and understand it better, we can figure out how to work with it, and make it work for us." Okay, I'm owning it, that's why I got this book. Now, how the hell do i make it work for me??

Finally, after 185 pages, we got to the first action: stop caring about what people think. And then a few pages on: Tell yourself you're excited not nervous... This is not the kind of insight I was hoping for.

As the book drew to a close, I realised I was never going to get the action plan I was seeking. It turns out this book was more about highlighting what shy people are good at, like writing, listening, and being cautious while other less shy people jump straight in and are loud. If you already know you're good at these things and you're looking for ways to put them to better use in the loud world we all live in, I'm afraid there's not much for you here.

Shy and Mighty
Though I have read quite a lot of non fiction reads and especially personality building and stuff yet this was the first ever time that I have encountered a book which hasn't been talked alot and haven't catered the masses yet.

Millions of people or you can say more than half of the population is somewhat shy and get tounge tied whenever they are gathered in some large crowd. This doesn't only restrict them to express themselves and their emotions but also build a wall of social anxiety that discourage their moral in a room full of people .

I personally learned alot from this particular book as I resemble as a introvert myself and I'm fully aware of the re occurring struggles of getting suppressed and being left out. This book Shy and Mighty by Author Nadia Finer pens down how shy people can be extremely noisy aswell at times, bit specifically throws some light on how they can stand out in the utterly busy and noisy world and match the step with the whole world.
I found this book to be very insightful, informative and educative to read as I personally connected with it alot.

Nadia Finer is the founder of Shy and Mighty, which aims to help better understand, value and support shy people. This is a self-help book (beautifully illustrated by Sara Thielker) for shy readers aged 7+ to help them better understand what shyness is, how it is a benefit and how to take control of it but while I wish I’d had this book when I was a child, there are points when I think it needed to talk more about when shyness can be destructive.
