In my world, you keep what you conquer. Now she's all mine.

Dropping down to Earth was supposed to be a quick, painless job. Too bad one drink with the cute Earth girl ended up with me drugged and bound on my own ship. I thought I taught her a lesson, but all she learned was that the sparks fly between us. Now we both want more, no matter how explosive it gets.

If I was smart, I'd drop her in the desert and let the dust storms finish her. If I was smart, I wouldn't give her a second chance to trick me. I definitely wouldn't take her to bed and promise to show her the stars.

No one said I was smart.

An everyday smuggling run turns into something more with Vani at my side and in my bed. She's the sweetest cargo I've ever carried. But when someone threatens to take her away, I'll tear through everything stupid enough to stand in my way.

She's mine, and no one steals what's mine.

The Rogues of the Zathari is an alien romance series featuring heart-pounding action, protective outlaw aliens with hearts of gold, and scorching hot romance that'll have you searching the stars for your own horned rogue. Each steamy story is a standalone with a hard-won HEA!

BDSM is Never Appropriate w/o Warning . . .

Vani tries unsuccessfully to steal Havoc’s spaceship. So he negotiates her punishment which will include spanking, bondage, and whatever nasty stuff he decides would be fun for him. Yeah sure, tying up a weaker human female and beating on her is such fun.

I didn’t complete this book because of the kink. I would not have taken it for review if I had realized this was included in the story (and did not need to be a part of the story). Kink and BDSM are upsetting to me and should be listed as trigger warnings for those of us who despise this behavior. I see trigger warnings from authors about cursing, intoxication, and other generic things, but pain-inducing kink and BDSM are treated as commonplace. It’s not my “normal” and I don’t want to read about it. I also don’t want to hear that I should log onto the author’s website if I want a list of the bad stuff (this was suggested in the published version, not in my review copy). If the list is so long it can’t be mentioned in the blurb, then it’s obviously not something I would have enjoyed anyway.

4.5 stars. Vani, the human female lead, has been beaten down and abused literally all her life. When she’s sent to con an alien, Havoc, the male alien lead, out of his spaceship, she fully intends to do it to protect her sisters-by-choice. But Havoc isn’t so easily beaten and he takes her with him when he leave Earth. She still wants to rescue her sisters, however she’d wouldn’t be averse to the life Havoc is offering…

Havoc doesn’t believe in mates but he can hear Vani’s voice in his head…

This story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a great rescue romance. I like the contrast between the hardness that is Vani’s outer shell and her softness and care within, as well as the the steamy scenes and the genuine relationship built around true consent. I also liked Havoc’s apparent inconsistencies that showed his heart and the relationship development between characters.

There were parts of this book I really enjoyed. I liked that Vani was fierce and dealt with her drama in a believable way. Havoc was a mixed bag for me. For all his touting of consent, he ventured into dubcon a lot. Listen, I’m not against dubcon in romance books, I just don’t like it when the MCs aren’t aware enough to recognize the power imbalance. The world was interesting, but the book dragged on.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: SA, involuntary sex work and abuse, torture, violence, gore, child abandonment, poverty, trauma responses, dubcon, abduction, drugging

✅enemies to lovers
✅fated mates
✅outlaw hero
✅found families

I was pleasantly surprised by this one! I love when an alien series doesn't necessarily begin with an abduction and existential crisis.... It's just nice sometimes when the humans already have a semblance of understanding about the wider universe. And I am a sucker for MCs that are considered outcasts or dangerous in their societies but wind up being the honorable/reluctant heroes.

My only complaint, and it's probably super nitpicky, is sometimes the setting felt a little uninspired. There were just a lot of instances where minor things were so human and it would have been cool to flesh out some of it to be more alien.

Which is not to say all of the details were bad because there was some fabulous worldbuilding regarding the Zathari belief systems and star-bonded mates.

And I am super intrigued by the rest of Havoc's brothers and what their stories will entail. Will definitely be continuing the series!

Pregnancy on page?

TWs (taken from authors website): explicit sex, BDSM, sexual assault (implied or off-page, perpetrated by antagonist), captivity/imprisonment, trafficking/slavery (implied/threatened by other character), violence, abuse (off-page, perpetrated by antagonist), parental abandonment (hero and heroine)

Vani is already at rock bottom and there's no way for her to keep digging. She just wants to protect her "sisters". Girls who has no one else and by doing what she does and putting herself in harm's way, she does as much as she can for them. This time there is no chance of saying no, not that there is anyway. She has been given the task of seducing Havoc. A male who came into the bar where she works months ago, he has a ship and her boss wants it therefore she is meant to get it for him. The last thing she wants to do is hurt Havoc but what other choice does she have? Havoc believes himself to be an unworthy male. He has done things that he is not proud of, despite them being for the protection of others. He runs whatever cargo he can and despite their treatment of him he tries to help his own race. A few hours of entertainment with the pretty thing from the bar before he goes back to his usual loneliness seems far. That is until she drugs him and steals his ship. Not the best way to start a relationship to be honest!

Not what I expected, really - it was better!

I wasn't too sure what to expect from this book. I love paranormal / supernatural romance novels, but despite adding samples to my "To Read on KU" list, I've never bothered with any alien styles. However, after seeing an ad on Facebook for it with a blurb, I figured I'd give it a go!

You have a well known "vicious" Zathari alien, Havoc show up at a bar, and a beaten down 'employee', Vani, who's expected to "serve" men who her boss will send her to. In this case, he wants her to seduce and drug Havoc so that her boss can take his ship.

This ends up being a bit of an entertaining situation, and they end up journeying together, though neither are sure they can trust the other.

I was sad to see it was coming to an end as I got closer and closer to finishing the book. Thankfully there's an epilogue of Havoc and Vani after this, and I'll have to give the next book a shot when it comes out! I read this free on KU, but I'm adding it to my "To Buy" book list to always have a copy! :)

I received an ARC copy of this book (free). l will happily purchase more of her work. I'm going to add her to my favorite author list. Sorry for any mistakes, I am writing this on my phone.
I enjoyed the characters in this book. They felt realistic and had depth to them. The heroine was relatable- she had issues like the rest of us.(She probably had more reason for her issues than most of us. I would give her 4 gold stars for resilience.) She was likeable. She took risks to improve her life. Havoc was a strong male with some emotional scars of his own. They helped each other heal.
The plot moved along at a good pace with enough twists to make it interesting.
The author's style was nice and fluid. The character development and plot was well thought out and set up.
This is a complete novel with more coming In the series (if my understanding of the author is correct.) There is a HEA, not a cliff hanger.

I love when an author creates a nonexistent world that I could envision being plausible and want to be a part of; Rogues of the Zathari series is definitely one of them. The author does an excellent job of weaving world building and culture throughout the narrative. With each book we get a little bit more.

Havoc is on Earth for a quick job and a good time between the sheets before he leaves. Unfortunately for him he becomes the mark of that good time between the sheets because someone wants his ship and they’re using her body to acquire it. He quickly figures out there’s more to her than the job she’s forced to do and he leaves Earth with her in tow. But those who own her still want his ship and the Earth female they love to torment.

Fated mates // HEA // dual pov // steamy // angsty // who did this to you // chase sequence // found family // D/s vibes in the form of restraints and spanking

DNF 30% - I know people hate it when you use the word “unrealistic” in fantasy, but this book was just too unrealistic. And it’s not the world building or anything, it’s just the way the characters reacted to certain situations. I just couldn’t keep reading.

Kindle clean out 2024 continues 🎉

A bit disappointed in this one. From reviews I was anticipating some unique world building and strong characters, but it all felt cookie cutter (all the way down to the buzz words ‘Terran’s’ etc.).

Nice D/s twist kept things spicy at least!

Havoc

This is my first book by this author. There are a lot of things I'm enjoying. I'm really appreciating how her characterization makes very clear the systems and structures that are in place in this universe that cause the characters to take the actions they do. The MFCs past is so bad that it is understandable to the reader and the MMC (eventually) why she does what she does. His history is just as dark so we can understand his motivations too.

For example, the MFC often says yes to terrible things, not just because her “no” will be ignored and probably punished,

“I said yes to a lot because it made me feel like it was my decision. And when I said yes, my sisters didn’t have to say anything at all.”

This small illusion of power helps keep her surviving and helping her sisters/friends. It's also a great example of the complexities of long-term abuse.

One of the other parts I liked in this story is how the spicy scenes are written. As always, these scenes should further develop the characters and their relationship, and they do. There are definite dominance and submission activities going on and we get a fantastic view of the MMC by how sensitive and considerate he is of her pleasure (and fear). He says,

“I’m not going to hurt you. Not ever. Tell me when you’re ready. Remember, no is always acceptable.”

The bonus in my mind is in the bonus epilogue in which the MFC gets to be the dom and the MMC is the sub. She gets to switch the roles because she wins a bet with him. She does a fabulous job of knowing just what to do and not to do. She says,

“I know this is hard for you. Do you want me to stop?”

He hesitated. “It was a fair deal. You deserve your victory.”

“I don't care,” I replied. I knew he didn't fear pain, or even the sweet torment of denial. But he had fought hard for his pride and dignity, and I would not dare take that from him. “You matter more to me than a silly bet. I love you far too much to hurt you.”

At that, he stilled. “Then don't stop.”

I could write more but this review is long enough. Here's my favorite line,

“What was a supercomputer good for if she couldn’t override my dick’s poor decisions?”

First of all, putting “Visit my website for potential triggers” does not equal to putting the TW in the book. The list in the website wasn’t even that long, it could have easily fit into one page, so not including it felt disingenuous. Not to mention readers shouldn’t have to hop through a bunch of loops in order to protect themselves. And, having finished the book, it was inaccurate too. There’s DubCon, blood and injuries are described in detail (unrelated to sex), H trafficks weapons and drugs (medicine, but still controlled, which makes it illegal), and in the end H is forced to fight and kill others in a fight, as a slave, so slavery is ON PAGE, despite what the list on the author’s website says. Also, in the list, it says “Hero kills a bunch of bad dudes” as all the violence H dishes; I guess the author forgot all the times H injures people, and behaves violently towards h (“they scuffle at the beginning” doesn’t quite cover it.), all the violent thoughts he has, and I’m not sure the slave he killed in a forced fight towards the end counted as a bad guy just because he didn’t want to help him escape.
The author says “it’s not a dark romance” at the beginning of the book, but it freaking is. H is a criminal, there’s more misogyny than in a Donald Trump speech, and there’s a lot of violence and death. And I mean A LOT. I don’t know what the author considers a “dark romance”, but I shudder to imagine it. But, if you manage to read past the DubCon, it’s entertaining, and there’s some action. The spice is OK, but at the end they go from a D/s relationship to a pretty vanilla couple, with her ordering him around, and it just felt like that last chapter was about some other couple.

DNF at 20% I promise I tried, but I just couldn’t force myself any further.

The set up of Vani’s character was good. That’s about it. After that the main issue was how absurd the beginning was handled, like the fact Vani drugs the guy with a needle she shoved in her boobs… as though that needle would have NEVER poked her at some point??? Weird. Then when she’s caught, she tried to keep a “poker face” about why she’s really doing this, but two seconds before she told the guy “drop me off, but rough me up so it looks like I tried” which gives away the fact that someone put her up to this 🤦🏻‍♀️ She’s suppose to be smart and conniving but this was dumb.

For some reason Havoc thinks it’s appropriate to handle this situation with BDSM themed “punishment” to make up for Vani trying to steal his ship… when HE HIMSELF easily concluded that she’s not the mastermind and is being controlled by someone else 🤦🏻‍♀️ Then the issue of consent… because Vani agrees to the punishment, but under duress… basically it’s either being dropped off in the desert to hopefully survive… or he punishes her to his liking. That’s not “fully consensual”, that’s dubious consent… which was not mentioned in the warnings on the author’s website. Consent does not come with a threat. Sometimes I don’t even think these authors know what consent is…

If you wear blinders and get beyond all I mentioned above, the story MIGHT be good… but I honestly have no clue, I couldn’t get that far. Proceed with caution 🤷🏻‍♀️ continue at your own risk.

I enjoyed reading this alien romance that is set in the future year 2198 where a war against alien race left Earth in ruins and most of the human race fled to other planets. This story is about Havoc a smuggler and Vani who worked in a club called Dahlia. This is an engaging alien romance with its well define characters that I got invested in. Havoc is visiting Earth and walks into the club. Vani's boss sees Havoc and wants Vani to seduce him for his ship. Vani decides that stealing Havoc's ship is the only way to save the other girls in the club. Vani gets caught trying to steal the ship, then gets punished (BDSM), then wonders if she should have stayed on Earth where she was trying to escape from. Overall, this story was a very steamy read, with humor and lots of drama between the two in this ARC that I received via Booksprout and I volunteer to review.

Vani lives on the desolate Earth. She and her two friends are abused by the club owner and his henchmen. Vani is told to steal Havoc’s ship for her cruel boss. She must accomplish this. If she fails, she will suffer punishment from him and his men. Havoc doesn’t take the attempts to steal his ship lightly. But he is not a cruel person like her boss. He knows what it is like to be imprisoned and treated cruelly.
Havoc promises to help rescue her two friends after he completes his deliveries to several planet first. While traveling, they explored each other. Vani begins to trust him and opens up to him.
But the boss is after them. Eventually HEA.

This novel was a nuanced, deeply emotional space opera romance that still contained plenty of action, danger, and interesting world building. I felt deeply for the heroine, with all her nuances, flaws, and past trauma. The hero was deliciously alpha while at the same time being too untrusting, but also deeply caring and protective. I appreciate the way the Fated Mate trope was used in this novel, kicking in later in the book. That gave the protagonists the ability to organically grow their romantic relationship while still reaping the benefits of a strong mate bond. I really look forward to reading the next book in this series, and I highly recommend this one.

Fantastic start of this new alien sci-fi romance with Vani and Havoc, there’s plenty of action, adventure, suspense, danger, drama, passion and so much more to keep you entertained and turning the pages. Vani wants to get off of earth she’s had enough of the violence so when she has a drink with an alien she plans to steal his ship but it doesn’t go as she planned and Havoc gives her a sound spanking but Vani will do what she must to save her friends on earth. There is so much more going on in this fantastic story with 🔥 steamy scenes and I highly recommend this book it’s well worth the read.

I think this is a great start to a new series. I love the universe the author built, rough and dangerous, but full of steamy love. Havco and Vani are the perfect couple that were made to fight for everything they had and each other. The twists and turns made it the perfect story. If you are looking for something that you can get lost in and totally swept up in, this is the perfect book for you. I am ready for the next one and cannot wait to see what it is all about. You will be doing yourself a favor if you read this book, you will not want to miss out.

4.5 ⭐️

CWs: sex work, abuse, violence, sexually explicit content, sexual assault, dubcon, murder, colonialism, PTSD

tropes: post apocalypse, space crime, bondage, D/s, bratty heroine, pet names, praise, touch her & die, arena competition, fated mates

The tone and plot of this story starts dark, but the softly interwoven tenderness and hard won connection between our main couple splashes the black with heartwarming shades of gray. I’m a slut for kink as a vehicle for reclamation of respect and consent. But when that car also takes us to fiery, alien true love town? It’s all over for me, folks.

A fast, spicy adventure.
A not so far future world where Earth quickly loses an Interstellar war, and the "quality" humans all leave the planet for greener pastures. What is left on Earth are the dregs of society and a crumbling, filthy, lawlessness has taken over what is left of the destroyed planet.
I really liked Havoc, and I am interested to see where the rest of his friends and "brothers" come into play.
I liked Vani for the most part, but she had me worried with her constantly trying to stab Havoc in the back (at first), and her not taking No for an answer with going back to rescue her sisters RIGHT AWAY.
I do hope we get to see more of them in future books.

Vani is existing in a very troubled future Earth. Physical and sexual violence have become a part of her daily life and she has to do whatever it takes to keep her friends safe, even if that means manipulating and deceiving an alien and stealing his spaceship. Havoc has his own troubled past and smuggling is his way of life. When Vani tries and fails to steal his spaceship, Havoc offers her an out, but it will come at a cost - punishment on his terms. Vani's not sure that she hasn't jumped out of the frying pan into the fire when she learns that her punishment will include spanking, bondage, and whatever else Havoc can dish out. The physical relationship between the two is so very hot & steamy - the emotional side is just as tumultuous for Vani & Havoc. Vani will do what she must to save her friends back on Earth and she's not sure she can trust Havoc any more than he believes he can trust her not to betray him. As they are faced with dangerous challenges from old & new sources, Vani & Havoc will have to decide if they have a future together.

This book is a fantastic choice for a fun beach read! It delivers on its promise of steamy moments, bringing the heat and excitement in spades. The story is fast-paced and provides excellent entertainment for a weekend escape. I particularly enjoyed the alternating chapters from each main character's point of view, which added depth and kept things interesting. The ending offered enough closure to be satisfying while cleverly introducing a new character and setting the stage for the sequel. It's well-written and thoroughly enjoyable!

I really enjoyed this book. Great world building. I really liked the characters. Vani felt very relatable. She's smart and does what she has to do to improve her life- which has been hard, dangerous, and abusive- and protect the people she cares about. Including trying to steal an alien's spaceship. Havoc has some issues of his own. But these two were drawn to each other and were exactly what the other needed. This story had action, danger, and suspense. I really enjoyed it. 4 stars.

Ignore the corny cover, this is such a well written book and I got so invested in the characters.
Great chemistry between them, plenty of spice without it taking over the plot.
Basic world building but still gives great imagery, looking forward to reading more in this series.
I only wish the bad guys could have had more time at the end for their demise, I wanted them to really suffer.
Great for those dipping their toes in alien romance for the first time.

Excellent science fiction with dark romance

This is so much better than the typical "alien romance" stories

The main characters (Vani & Havoc) have a good amount of complexity: consistent natures, believable back-stories, likeable & understandable (even when their behaviour is anything but legal or acceptable).

The surrounding worlds, ships, secondary characters, and steamy scenes are all very well written.

Definitely going to find the next one in this series!
